I HOPE THIS NEW THRED IS NOT CONSUMED BY ACCUSATIONS OF RACISM OR IDIOTS CALLING DEMOCRATS REPUBLICANS JUST BECAUSE THEY WILL NOT VOTE FOR OBAMA, OR BECAUSE THEY WOULD CHOOSE MCCAIN OVER OBAMA IN NOVEMBER, BETTER WE SHOULD TALK ABOUT WHAT WE WILL DO NOW THEN, AND MAKE A FULLY INFORMED DECISION, THAN HIDE OUR INTENTIONS UNTIL AFTER A LOSING CANDIDATE IS NOMINATED

PERHAPS A LITTLE REALISTIC TALK ABOUT HOW INSIGNIFICANT WINNING "RED" STATES WOULD BE REFRESHING

For a democrat to vote for anyone other than a democrat means that they would have to sacrifice their beliefs.

To vote Republican, you:

1) Vote for someone who has disregard for civil liberties

2) Vote for someone who has disregard for the constitution

3) Vote for someone who does not believe a woman has the right of choice

4) Vote for someone for will further the religious theocracy which the neo-cons and Bush have started

5) Vote for someone who has no plan for the economy whatsoever

6) Vote for someone who has more care for business than they do for women, children, the poor, etc. Who will create more giveaways for these corps, and reduce all social programs trageted at those who need it

These things are what you will get with ANY republican. These things are traditional "core democratic values". If you are so willing to foresake them, I personally do not see who you can consider yourself a democrat.

protactinium said...

Well I believe the definiation of a democrat is someone who votes for the democratic party.

So if one are to vote republican. That by definiation would make them an republican. You could make the arguement your an independant, but not a democrat.

After reading today's Washington Post article on the Clinton campaign, it appears to me that in the end Hillary lost this campaign, versus Obama winning it. FYI, I support Obama. It seems obvious that the voting patterns are pretty strong and distinct, and that the outcome of each race has been largely a function of the demographics within each contest. Hillary's coalition may actually be larger (women are the largest and most prized voting group), but her campaign's ineptitude and inability to get the vote out after Super Tuesday probably will prove to be fatal. Maybe the outcome is appropriate if it is an indication of her ability to lead and manage.

Having said all of that, I am becoming increasingly interested in a combined ticket. I am against the war in Iraq, so I don't want to lose sight of beating McCain. I think this nominating process will not end until the primaries do. If the superdelegates haven't settled the nomination by that time, I think a combined ticket is the only solution to avoiding a blood bath at the convention and assuring a victory over McCain.

Hillary would not be a vp under Obama. However I do think Obama offering Hillary the health postion in the cabinet is a much better solution.

Obama needs to get an experinced vp, or a national security vp.

Many Hillary supporters like me (I'm an independent) just cannot support Obama for all the reasons mentioned.

Early on posting here, I said I had a gut feeling about Obama and now revelations about his "wink wink" NAFTA policy and other fibs and lies he's told have confirmed this feeling.

As mentioned already, he is pompous, self serving, not all that patriotic, a plagiarizer (using others' words without attribution), and unsettling. His wife is much the same. It is obvious they are racists in sheep's clothing.

On the other hand Hillary is a proven entity who has worked hard most of her adult life for children, better education in AR, health care and much more.

Something about her being so solid and Obama being so nebulous makes me support her much more.

Obama is described in an article I posted as unbending, stubborn and not wanting to reach across the isle about many things.

In other words, HE IS NOT WHAT HE APPEARS TO BE!!

Some troubling things from Obama's Dreams from my Father....

Yet on whom does Barack’s memoir focus? On his father – whom Barack, against all evidence (which suggests that Dr. Obama was colossally selfish and narcissistic), seeks to portray as heroic, sympathetic, indeed near-mythic. Obama père was a polygamist (and a lousy husband to all his wives), but Barack gives no indication that he finds this morally problematic; on the contrary, he seems determined to excuse his father’s many failings as consequences of imperialism, colonialism, and/or racism. One can, of course, well understand why a small boy – or even a young man – might idealize out of all proportion the father he never met. But Obama shows few signs in this book of recognizing that he’s doing this. Meanwhile, perversely, he treats his mother and grandparents, who by his own account raised him with extraordinary devotion, all but dismissively.

At one point he even suggests that Gramps and Toot were really racists – and that all white people, in fact, are racists, and that black people have been so deformed by this racism that black individuals can hardly be held responsible for their own moral lapses.
______
So, it seems there are many underlying skeletons and troubling skewed perspectives in Obama's closet.

Maybe this is one of the things I sense in his rhetoric -- his narccisism and deep seetead suspicion of whites. If it is easy for him to dismiss those who raised him, then it must be much easier to dismiss whites as an ethnic group.

Below are some other reasons I don't like Obama and don't trust him. It worries me that we are seeing a cult following and mentality about Obama which is never good for objective thinking and reasoning.

By Bruce Bawer

Everybody’s gaga over Barack Obama. Or so it sometimes seems. People whose judgment I deeply respect are in ecstasy over the prospect of the junior senator from Illinois being elected President. Some of them have heard him speak live and have come away enchanted. For my part, I’ve seen him talk and debate and have read as much as I can find about his positions. The result? I’ve appreciated some stands he’s taken – and been extremely offended by others. I’ve noted some signs of what may actually be real principle and courage – as well as classic examples of political waffling, cynicism, and expediency. I can see that he’s smart, charming, and articulate – but, unlike some people, I don’t see him as some knight in shining armor who’s going to deliver us from government as usual.

More:::::

Forget the content of our character; this is a work preoccupied with skin color. It’s drenched with the legacy of Malcolm X (whom Obama, at least in this book, openly idolizes). At times it’s as if there were no historical injustices in the world other than those visited upon blacks by whites. Obama routinely refers to other black men (but never white men) as “brothers”; he exhibits considerably more concern for the dignity of black men than for that of women or non-black men; and he’s acutely sensitive to perceived racial slights (yet even as he deplores the subordination of blacks in America, curiously enough, he appears to accept as his due his family’s lofty position in Kenya). While occasionally gesturing toward an ideal of colorblindness à la Dr. King, in his heart of hearts he’s anything but colorblind, fervently endorsing black solidarity while repeatedly expressing distrust of, and even contempt for, whites. When, lamenting Kenya’s intertribal rivalries, he tells a relative that “We’re part of one tribe. The black tribe. The human tribe,” the last three words feel like an afterthought – as does his attempt, in the book’s closing pages, to move beyond strict racial line-drawing and to articulate broader sympathies. As if all this weren’t enough, it seems clear by book’s end that his heart’s home is not America but Kenya

Timeforchange- Atleast you admit your an anti-obama voter, and no democrat.

I also find it obvious that you have no only an issue with Obama because he is black. Which in not an argueable issue. If you are a hate monger you will only vote on hate.

"he exhibits considerably more concern for the dignity of black men than for that of women or non-black men"

"tells a relative that “We’re part of one tribe. The black tribe. The human tribe,” the last three words feel like an afterthought –"

"At one point he even suggests that Gramps and Toot were really racists – and that all white people, in fact, are racists, and that black people have been so deformed by this racism that black individuals can hardly be held responsible for their own moral lapses."

Since persons attempting to join the military are not allowed to do so due to past drug use, how can Obama possibly be Commander in Chief of a military who disallows members who have done so?

Substance misuse
The causes for rejection for appointment, enlistment, and induction are:
"(3) The repeated self-procurement and self-administration of any drug or chemical substance, including cannabinoids or anabolic steroids, with such frequency that it appears that the applicant has accepted the use of or reliance on these substances as part of his or her pattern of behavior."
http://www.military.com/Recruiting/Conte...g,,00.html

This rule would disqualify him from joining the military.

This added information changes the circumstances quite a bit. How could you be allowed to command the military, if the same military wouldn't accept you because of frequent marijuana and cocaine use? Now, this is in fact a true case of being a double standard.

protactinium said...

"with such frequency that it appears that the applicant has accepted the use of or reliance on these substances as part of his or her pattern of behavior."

This section is a very important part of your supposed smear arguement. He did do drugs in college for a bit. He has come clean and says it is wrong. Atleast he is honest. However it being a pattern of behavior or him considering it acceptable use if a over blown statement.

So in fact what you say is wrong. Obama would be allowed in the military.

Seventeen-Steps. Annette's Solution To End the 2008 Democratic Primary Chaos.

1. After weeks of secret negotiations, Howard Dean convinces Antonin Scalia that 3 billion dollars is a pretty decent payoff. Er, retirement.

2. Scalia calls a press conference to announce his intention to retire soon. When asked why, he comments that it is because the Constitution annoys and confuses him. When asked WHEN he plans to retire, he replies that he will retire on the day after the next Presidential Inauguration. When asked why he has to wait until that exact date, he responds it is for ‘a number of personal reasons.’

3. Howard Dean presents a deal in a secret meeting with Hillary and Barack. Barack will drop out of the race and Hillary will put Barack on the ticket as her VP. After elected, Hillary will immediately step down and let President Obama appoint her to the Supreme Court to fill Scalia’s position.

4. Hillary agrees, if she can just get to be President for one day, please.

5. Barack agrees. Without pre-conditions.

6. Later that evening, Barack tells his wife in confidence that he has serious concerns regarding the damage he will be doing to the Supreme Court. His wife tells him to cut the crap, because if he thinks she went through this whole damn campaign just to spend four years as the wife of the VICE President, he’s got his head up his ass. Screw the Supreme Court.

7. Later that same evening, Hillary tells her husband in confidence that she has serious concerns regarding the damage she will be doing to the National Security. Bill points out that she apparently forgot how pissed off she used to get at those frequent middle-of-the-night phone calls when he was President and all those frequent middle-of-the-night national security emergencies came up. Screw national security.

8. The two candidates schedule a joint press conference, where Barack announces that he is dropping out of the race.

9. One of the cracker-jack investigative reporters in the crowd asks whether that massive banner across the stage that reads “Clinton/Obama” means that Clinton has asked Obama to be her VP. Hillary giggles and says yes.

10. When asked how he feels about this sudden development, Barack says this is the most fun that he’s had since that time he got to play in that bouncy thing at his friend Mikey’s fourth birthday party.

11. Barack closes the press conference with a special statement to his supporters. He says that he would like to assure his supporters that they should vote for the Clinton/Obama ticket because he promises them that they won’t be sorry. Honest. Really. He says he can’t go into details just yet for ethical reasons, but begs his supporters to vote for the ticket even though Hillary – whom he admires and respects greatly [wink, wink] – isn’t quite what they had in mind. Please just go along with it. Really.

12. The Clinton/Obama ticket wins the election.

13. The day after the Inauguration, Scalia calls a press conference to make his resignation official. He says “I hate to rush you all, but that’s all I have time to say for now. You’ll have to excuse me, but I have some urgent retirement-related business to tend to.”

14. Moments later, a small bank somewhere in the Cayman Islands receives a wire transfer of 3 billion dollars from someone who calls himself ‘God’ but who refuses to give his last name.

15. That very afternoon, Hillary stuns the public when she announces that she is stepping down from the Presidency immediately. When asked why, she comments that she had forgotten what a dump the White House is, and then reminds Americans that she never said a word about what she would do on Day Two.

16. Barack is sworn in as President. His first act as President is to nominate Hillary as Scalia’s replacement. She receives Senate approval in less than 30 minutes.

17. Barack’s childhood friend, Mikey, finds himself off doing interviews with Larry King, and Bill Clinton is later sighted making sudden and substantial investments in a formerly little-known company that rents out bouncy things to children’s birthday parties.

Not to me. Perhaps the same character flaws are what led him to his youthful drug use.

The connections are important and serious also.

I do not see how we can make laws against drug us (youthful and otherwise) and have the leader of this country as a former druggie!

Makes absolutely no sense to me.

Obama's Chicago blues: Ayers and Rezko
Nothing new, of course, to the readers of Marathon Pundit, but this Bloomberg News report covers some of the items in Barack Obama's background that his campaign would prefer to keep hidden--Tony Rezko, of course, but also his contacts with the repugnant Bill Ayers, the former Weather Underground terrorist, and Obama's race-based Trinity United Church of Christ.

Obama's endorsement of Alexi Giannoulias for Illinois State Treasurer also is mentioned. Giannoulias was an officer at his family-owned Broadway Bank in Chicago, and approved a loan to Michael "Jaws" Giorango, a convicted bookmaker and reputed mobster. Shortly after be becoming a US senator, Obama said he didn't want to be "a kingmaker." But by endorsing Giannoulias over the party slated candidate, he did just that. Even after Alexi won the primary, the state Democratic Party chairman, Michael Madigan, refused to endorse Giannoulias. He won anyway.

Regarding Obama's connection to Ayers:

The facts are quite clear:

1. William Ayers conducted terrorist attacks inside the United States and against the U.S. Government. He does not consider himself a terrorist, but he admits he did the acts.
2. Barack Obama has had a long standing relationship with Ayers and is quite knowledgeable of his past.
3. Barack and Ayers served together on the Wood Fund. I am told, but have not yet confirmed, that they steered money to an individual who is under Federal indictment. If that is true, life gets more interesting.
4. William Ayers made a small financial contribution to Obama’s first campaign. In the total scheme of things, not significant, except it will be used by Republicans against Obama in the fall. How do you explain to Joe or Jane Average American that a guy who describes U.S. Marines as terrorists not only gave you money but also helped raise money for your campaign? Do you really think most Americans will shrug and say, “No big deal”?

As a consequence of Obama's dereliction of duty on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, a the Bush administration has had absolutely no oversight as it careens from disaster to disaster in Afghanistan, including the central governments loss of control over 70 percent of the country and yet another bumper crop of opium to fuel the efforts of the Taliban and their terrorist allies.

Of course, if you don't hold hearings, conduct oversight, make recommendations or sponsor legislation, then you have no record to explain or defend and you are free to take whatever position is convenient when attacking those who actually did address issues. Meanwhile, on the campaign trail, Obama holds forth on Afghanistan, chiding the administration and our allies as though he's a profile in courage and not someone who has abandoned his post in establishing accountability.

William Ayers

"EVERYTHING was absolutely ideal on the day I bombed the Pentagon,
the birds were singing, the sky was blue and those m*therf*ckers were finally going to get what was coming to them"

That excerpt from William Ayers' memoir had appeared in The New York Times on 9/11/2001 - the day al Qaeda terrorists crashed hijacked planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Ayers, once a leader in the Weather Underground - the group that declared "war" on the US government in 1970 - told the Times, "I don't regret setting bombs," and, "I feel we didn't do enough." He recently reappeared in the news because Politico.com reported Friday that Barack Obama has loose ties to him.

Now a professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Ayers is apparently a left-wing institution in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. Obama began visiting his home when launching his political career in the mid-'90s.

The two also served on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago, which gave money to Northwestern University Law School, where Ayers' wife (and ex-Weather Underground compatriot who glorified violence) Bernardine Dohrn is the director."

Obama's (bad) judgment:

1. Aligning himself with Rezko for 20 years, pretending to only know him casually for a few. Sticking with Rezko even after he knew he was being indicted.

2. His "association" with Ayers, former terroist/bomber

3. The Canadian NAFTA falafel

4. The land deal with Rezko/wife making Obama's property appreciate in value

5. His drug use

6. His criticizing the situation in Afghanistan and Iraq but failing to hold a single oversight committee meeting due to his important run for the presidency.

7. Saying he was not the type to run for president with little experience--didn't feel comfortable, wouldn't do it.

8. His church affiliation whose pastor has a great admiration for Louis Farrahkan.

9. In his book "Dreams from My Father", he extolls the virtues of Kenya, his black brothers and dismisses his white family who raised him--calls them racist.

10. His refusal to wear an American flag lapel pin to prove some point about "doing" rather than "wearing".

11. His refusal to put his hand over his heart during the national athem (maybe not required but nonetheless stupid and arrogant not to).

12. He romantacizes Reagan--says the repub. party had ideas for over a decade (why didn't he add, albeit bad ideas? He has foot in mouth disease when he is speaking off the cuff!

13. Says he will meet with good and bad/evildoer leaders. Knows nothing about diplomacy and the carrot and stick approach obviously.

14. Repeatedly points out that he was against the war but has conceded that had he actually been in the Senate at the time he made the speech and had the briefings, etc. he might have felt differently.

15. Was it a good judgment on Obama's part hiring and having Austan D. Goolsbee as his senior economic policy adviser after what happened at the latest "Nafta" issue?

16. In a debate Obama told a story of a captain (should be lt. as they command platoons) and his platoon using weapons from the enemy and piecing together their weapons due to a shortage. Well, he voted not to fund....hmmmm. He lied 8 times! Either that or he has a very poor memory. Not presidential at all!

Well, you get the picture!

On the one hand he says he has the better judgment and when confronted with his dealing with Rezko and other things, he says he made a mistake, did some "bone headed things".

Obamas people is trying to cordinate a block of super delegates, (I heard 50 being thrown around) in order to make Hillary relize the delegate math is impossible for her.

So actually it looks like the super delegates may work out well for Obama. They can end this election almost any time these choose at this point. I am guessing everyone wants to see what happens in Penn. However they made noise that the delegate block may endorse Obama previous to Penn.

Penn is essentially a senate, or governer race. 6 weeks, 30 million dollar per campaign fighting. Hillary must win big or go home. Im looking foward to it.

It is absolutely hillarious how you post so many things that you claim Obama has done, when in fact, there is tons of evidence proving Hillary has actually done them, or worse.

How can you ignore the fact that Hillary does this?

That Hillary has more ties to the Rezko trial than Obama?

That Hillary is the one who sought out the Canadians to tell them "wink wink" as you put it. Obama did not go to them, nor did his staffers. But, Hillary actively sought them out.

That Hillary had ties to people much worse than your "terrorist"? People like the communists she worked for when she and Bill spent that summer in CA. (In case you can't add, Obama's age prevents him from remembering what this "terrorist" did. He may know now, but last time I checked, this guy hadn't done anything other than teach for the last several decades).

You just continue to sling mud which will not stick. But, the funniest part of it all is how you justg ignore the facts regarding your candidate and have now way to refute or deny the fact that she has much more shady dealings and ties than Obama ever will.

However Chicago is in the running for the Olympics, and is considered a top of the line city. It is rated as one of the top tourist citys in the USA. Fair cry from the scary picture you try to portary.

However I am not suprised the Hillary has gotten so desprate to try and link Obama to Chicago poltics. However this may be fair, Obama is supported by the Daley machine. Who is elected in Chicago election after election with landslide totals because he is one of the best mayors.

I had relatives in Chicago who talked a lot about politics as did my parents.

I've said pretty much the same thing about Obama--that he is foolish and dangerous because he cannot deliver what he promises.

I truly believe that the reason Obama has younger and other type followers in the same vein is their lack of experience and perspective--they haven't lived long enough to really realize what it takes to be a successful leader.

Also, those who are "believers" rather than those who are grounded in facts and reality tend to go along with the Obama types and the sing song mantra of empty words.

In case it has escaped your notice, Ohio was a secret ballot vote, and Texas was mostly a secret ballot vote -- and Clinton has always done well in those.
You need to recognize that Obama's entire "surge" was based mostly upon wins in caucus states.

Many of us think that caucuses are a bogus form of election because they are subject to forces such as peer group pressure, bribery and irregularities that are not generally encountered in secret-ballot voting.

Furthermore, most of Obama's caucus wins were in states that are not likely to be in the Democratic column on election day.

Let’s not forget yesterday was the first day of opening arguments with jury, of the REZKO trial.

In his opening statement Thursday, Rezko’s lead defense attorney, Joseph Duffy, mentioned Obama and five other politicians in explaining Rezko’s motivation for political involvement.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

And Barack Obama being firmly In the Dirt:

In the last few days, Obama and his senior staff have been open about their intention to raise all sorts of personal issues against the Clintons. They have even started that process by, for instance, calling for the Clintons to release their tax returns immediately, before the April 15 date Clinton’s campaign has promised.

* * * * * * * * And the most recent "Backfired" Comments Of his Foreign policy advisor Susan Rice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymmkze5-bdA

It is understandable why the Obama team wants to go negative, even while such a tactic conflicts with the senator’s frequent statements that he planned to run a different kind of campaign. Clinton’s recent hammering of Obama’s personal missteps and professional weaknesses (national security readiness, the flap over Obama’s top economic adviser talking to Canadian officials about NAFTA, the criminal trial of former Obama fundraiser Tony Rezko) seems to have helped her win primaries in Ohio and Texas. Those victories have at least temporarily staunched the tide of Obama Inevitability, much to the dismay of his staff and supporters, who have become cozily accustomed to success.

Team Obama wants to react quickly and with maximum force: his top political and communications advisers are from the you-pull-a-knife-I’ll-pull-a-gun school of campaign response. Furthermore, based on watching Obama interact with New York Times’ columnist Maureen Dowd on his campaign plane last week, he did not appreciate her once famously calling him “Obambi.”

After this truly bad week, the first since January (Clinton’s New Hampshire win notwithstanding), Obama has fretted that the press has decided to be tougher on him — and perhaps softer on Clinton. This might bode ill for a significant change in strategy and tone, even though in the past, many in the media cheered when Obama took steps to go negative against his New York rival. His campaign already has produced plenty of disparaging material about Clinton (radio ads, voter phone calls, e-mails, direct mail) without reproach.

But now it appears the campaign wants to make negative attacks, including those launched directly from the candidate himself, a more central part of its message.

Early on, Obama pledged to fire anyone on his staff who engaged in the kind of personal attacks his senior advisers, and himself are now openly launching on a daily basis.

By attacking Clinton during a period when he is particularly vulnerable on the Tony Rezko case, NAFTA, and other unseemly matters, Obama risks more unfavorable scrutiny directed at him (especially during a period when Clinton is on a roll, given her charming appearances on late-night comedy shows, her comeback kid excitement, and her refreshed media confidence).

It could look and feel desperate — already Obama’s affronted reaction to those newly tough, “like, eight questions” last week made him seem rather naive and peevish; add cutthroat to that image, and Obama could have a bigger problem than he is trying to solve by changing strategies.

Bring it on Barack. We dare you. We double dare you

Nice try. He had a chance to do several thing his first two years in office before all of that happened. One was repealing the Taft-Hartley act, the largest piece of non-union and pro-corporate greed legislation ever enacted in this country. It was offered to him to repeal and he refused. Well, if you knew anything about it, that friend was Rod Blagovich, the governor. The proof of the ties with Rezko--just follow the money that he and the others funneled to the Clintons. Last time I checked those are public record. And how much of the money that Hillary received from Rezko and his cronies did she return, or donate to charity? ZERO

And this makes her better? Thats some good logic right there. No wonder you ignore the facts

Let's assume that most of what has been said about Obama here and elsewhere (the neg. things) are lies or distortions.

That being said, (and I think most of it is pretty accurate and has some or complete basis in fact), Obama is still too "unknown" and too much of a risk to be president.

I know who and what Hillary is for the most part--warts and all.

I know who McCain is for the most part--warts and all.

I also have been rethinking Iraq. I ranted and raved at the TV and the pundits, George Bush, et al that they were stupid going to war with Iraq.

That the rest of the ME didn't like Saddam so much because he was a secular leader/dictator and he kept the riff raff/terrorists out of his country. He was ruthless and a murderer. But unfortunately, it took someone like Saddam to keep his country together and keep it from falling into the hands of Iran and the terrorists who now occupy it.

I was against the war totally!

But now that we are there, I think no matter when we pull out, Iraq will go to the worst of the dogs of the ME--Iran, Al Qaeda and others.

Is it better sooner rather than later? Maybe giving it a few more years to allow the Iraqi's to have a better armed forces, government, etc. isn't such a bad idea.

I don't know but since we can't undo history, we need to think of the consequences.

I'm now on the fence about pulling out right away and so McCain becomes more palatable for me.

I will never vote for Obama, no matter what. And there are millions more like me.

He may win the battle but he will lose the war!

His performance at a health-care forum was criticized as vague. He told the audience, "we have a plan that we are in the process of unveiling."

His hometown newspapers have been particularly tough. Chicago Sun-Times columnist Lynn Sweet took a close look at Obama's memoir, "Dreams of My Father."

Sweet said of the book, "I realize that most of the book can't be taken as fact, because as he wrote in the preface, he has composite characters, made up dialogue, and he switched names for many of the characters in it, so when you read it, you're not sure what's true and what's not."

Obama is supposed to be this new kind of politician, rather in the style of Deval Patrick. But let's recall the Patrick campaign -- one of the best this state has ever seen. Even when Patrick's family was being dragged through the mud, even when the Healey campaign was slinging the most vile advertising his way, and even when the oh-so-wise purveyors of conventional wisdom were practically begging Patrick to strike back in kind, Patrick never, ever, resorted to the kinds of attacks on Kerry Healey that the Obama camp launched against the Clintons in this India memo. So one now has to ask: is Obama really what he claims? Or is he more of the same, in a younger, nicer-looking package?

I guess nobody is on the other thread and this issue was addressed here. I think it is very important, because until we address our foreign policy shortcomings over the past 50 years, we will never be able to take care of our domestic issues, like health care domestically produced sustainable fuels and outsourcing.

This is exactly what Republicans want. If they can keep our eyes off the ball by drumming up fears abroad and keeping us tied up in military engagements ad infinitum they can make a bundle. Wake up folks!

I think Obama is the guy for the job. Hillary has already taken sides in the ME. She has very little credibility among the Arab and Persian states. Obama, on the other hand, has left the door open to a more impartial approach.

dwit said...

To continue the conversation Shelby and I wee having on the other thread:

I am very sad for the loss of life at the seminary in Israel, but that kind of thing happens almost every week here in the states. What does that say about OUR culture?

Bottom line is we should open our doors to all Israelis (Jewish and Palestinian) who'd like to emigrate to the states. Truman should have done this during and post WWII and we wouldn't have this problem today.

There is no country in history that has been as safe and prosperous for Jews than the USA. Heck, New York and Connecticut have more Jews than the entire state of Israel!

Israel is not a viable state economically and her people have no security. Its time we pay attention to the "reality on the ground" as they say and get out.

US taxpayers simply can't afford to continue hemorrhaging money in the ME. We now give Israel $10 billion a year. An excerpt from my blog illustrates what that money could do HERE in this country:

"With that money we could send 1,713,502 college age students to a public university for an entire year. With that same money we could provide 909,090 American families with health insurance for a year."

dwit said...

Oh, and for all of you who think the "red states" don't matter, that is how George Bush ended up in office. I know you will all try to point out the "stealing" of Florida or Ohio, but if the numbers weren't so close in the first place Florida wouldn't have mattered a damn and didn't in the end anyway.

If Hillary is elected we face more urban vs. rural gridlock. With Obama we have a healing of that divide created by the very diabolical Republicans. Trust me, I come from a rural state.

NO Obama said...

Obama is lucky the Rezko affair is a Chicago issue with which national reporters are unfamiliar. And, given what's known today, it's hard to see how the Rezko case could wound Obama's political ambitions. But for that reason, it's hard to understand his reluctance to answer questions from the Chicago investigative reporters who know the Rezko issues best.

Maybe that's something Democratic superdelegates ought to consider as they ponder whether to declare for Obama now or wait to make a decision closer to the Democrats' August convention. They need to know that he will be the strongest candidate for November. In addition to the Rezko issue, Hillary Clinton in recent days has succeeded in raising questions about Obama's experience, his credentials to be commander in chief and his stance on NAFTA. Obama had the momentum going into Texas and Ohio and outspent Clinton two-to-one, but lost.

Hillary has been endorsed by 30 military high ranking officers, mostly generals.

She is much more experienced and prepared to go against McCain in the fall (who is also quite experienced).

National Security will be the main issue and the economy a close 2nd.

Hillar is best prepared, informed and ready!

Also, no one wants to mention this but Bill Clinto handled world affairs pretty well and I'm sure Hillary learned a lot from him and will bounce ideas and plans off him as president.

For an ambitious and savvy politician, Barack Obama has not picked his friends wisely. They include an assortment of influence-peddlers, terrorists and Iraqi billionaires.

The jury has been selected and opening arguments were heard Thursday in the corruption trial of Antonin "Tony" Rezko. If the name doesn't ring a bell, it's because the press hasn't shown much interest in what has been considered a local Chicago story. But it has international and disturbing implications.

Hillary Clinton may have been casting the first stone in a recent debate when she blasted Obama's cozy relationship with Syrian immigrant and "slumlord" Rezko, who rose to become a player in Chicago and Illinois politics. But she was right on target.

Rezko was among Obama's earliest supporters. In 1995, when Obama ran for a seat in the Illinois Senate, Rezko, through two of his companies, gave Obama $2,000. Obama won election in 1996 in a district that coincidentally included 11 of Rezko's 30 low-income housing projects.

Rezko is known by the Chicago press as a "fixer" who can make things happen for a price. Little is done out of the goodness of his heart. He's on trial for bilking up to $6 million from the people of Illinois through kickbacks while working for the administration of current Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Did Rezko find jobs for Obama supporters? That is one of the questions the Chicago press wanted to ask before Obama cut short a recent press conference.

Rezko and Obama would do business yet again. In 2005, when Rezko was under federal investigation for influence peddling in Blagojevich's administration, Obama and Rezko's wife, Rita, bought adjacent pieces of property from a Chicago doctor.

The doctor sold one parcel to Obama for $1.65 million, $300,000 below the asking price, while Rezko's wife paid full price, $625,000, for the adjacent vacant lot. Six months later, Obama paid Rezko's wife $104,500 for a 10-foot-wide strip of her land, allegedly so that he could have a bigger yard.

The deal rendered the Rezko parcel too small to build on, thereby increasing the value of Obama's property. What was Rezko expecting in return for this favor to Obama that made Rezko's parcel almost worthless?

An interesting sidebar to the deal was that just weeks before, an Iraqi billionaire by the name of Nadhmi Auchi, who has a French conviction for corruption to his credit, had loaned Rezko $3.5 million through the Panamanian company Fintrade Services FA.

A 2004 Pentagon report obtained by the Washington Times identified Auchi as a global arms dealer and Iraqi billionaire "who, behind the facade of legitimate business, served as Saddam Hussein's principle international financial manipulator and bag man."

The report states that "significant and credible evidence has been developed that Nadhmi Auchi has engaged in unlawful activities" such as bribing "foreign governments and individuals prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom to turn opinion against the American-led mission to remove Saddam Hussein." He also helped "arrange for significant theft from the U.N. Oil-for-Food Program to smuggle weapons and dual-use technology into Iraq."

Yet Auchi, despite his French conviction and other activities, was somehow able to get permission to come to Chicago in 2004. John Batchelor of Human Events says that in April 2004 Auchi met with Rezko, Gov. Blagojevich, State Senate President Emil Jones Jr. and reportedly then-state Sen. Obama, who'd just won the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination.

So this, er, businessman meets Obama and friends at the Four Seasons hotel in downtown Chicago. Obama acknowledges attending an event there where Rezko was present but doesn't recall meeting Auchi. "He shook a lot of hands and met a lot of people," an Obama aide told the London Times.

Did he shake Auchi's? The newspaper said the timing of the loan to Rezko and the Obama property purchase, along with the purchase of land next door by Rezko's wife from the same seller, raise questions about whether Auchi helped buy the house. It raises a lot of questions.

Why would an Iraqi billionaire, a "fixer" like Rezko and a Saddam protege, be interested in a rising U.S. politician who was also opposed to the ousting of Hussein by U.S. forces? Why would that billionaire lend that much money to Obama's fundraiser, Rezko, with the two buying adjacent properties from the same seller on the same day?

Rezko has told a court that Auchi is a "close friend." Obviously. Aside from the $3.5 million loan, Auchi and Rezko became partners in a Midwest pizzeria business. Through various dealings, Rezko wound up owing Auchi more than $27 million. What did Auchi want in return? Perhaps a friend in the White House? Both Rezko and Auchi were, and are, in the business of buying influence.

Among Obama's circle of friends is William C. Ayers, currently a professor of education at the University of Chicago and a former aide to Chicago's current mayor, Richard M. Daley. He served with Obama on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago.

Back in the 1970s he was known simply as Bill Ayers, a terrorist with the Weathermen who was quoted in the New York Times as finding "a certain eloquence in bombs." Married to fellow Weathermen terrorist Bernadine Dohrn, he writes openly about his role in the 1974 bombing of the U.S. Capitol Building.

His memoirs appeared in the New York Times, oddly enough, on Sept. 11, 2001. In them, he wrote: "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough." Does Barack Obama agree? Or will he denounce these words of his friend as he did with Louis Farrakhan after Farrakhan's endorsement of Obama?

The trial of an Illinois influence-peddler may answer the many questions that surround the past and future of Barack Obama. Clearly, the friends he has chosen are not friends of honest, clean government or of the United States.

Fact is Obama, and his Wife worked for UoC(University of Chicago) along with Bill Ayers.
Now before you go and blast UoC you should actually look up the level of education is offer. It is a premium school.

The "terroists" which you link Obama to are white people that have been active in society. They work together, and are from the same back yard. Why does no one ask this smut why is Ayers not in jail if he is a terrorist?

"For an ambitious and savvy politician, Barack Obama has not picked his friends wisely.

Clearly, the friends he has chosen are not friends of honest, clean government or of the United States."

"Nadhmi Auchi was charged along with Saddam Hussein for conspiring to assassinate Iraqi President Abdul-Karim Qasim in 1959. Qasim was injured while his bodyguard was killed; Saddam managed to flee the country. Auchi was arrested for delivering weapons to the assassins but was later pardoned by President Qasim."

"Several US political fundraisers are currently on trial for corruption in connection with loans received from Auchi. Auchi is currently barred from entering the US by the state department as an undesirable alien.

Nadhmi Auchi was viewed with a lot of suspicion by the Iraqi opposition to Saddam Hussein's regime, regarding him as a front-man for Saddam's intelligence service. Auchi was involved in several multi-billion business deals in the post-Saddam era too, such as the Orascom mobile phone network (IraqNa), and at least one power generation contract involving Chicago-based tycoon Antoin Rezko and Iraq's former Minister of Electricity, Aiham Alsamarrae, who has been convicted over corruption charges in Iraq and is now living in Chicago."

** REZKOGATE **

"'Antoin "Tony" Rezko (born 1955 in Aleppo, Syria) is a restaurateur and real estate developer in Chicago, Illinois. Rezko is currently facing federal charges of attempted extortion, money laundering, and fraud. He is receiving media attention due to his association with presidential hopeful Barack Obama. On January 28, 2008, Rezko was arrested at his Wilmette, Illinois home for an alleged bond violation."

Rezko has raised funds for many politicians, both Democrats and Republicans. These include prominent Democrats, such as Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn, Attorney General Lisa Madigan, U.S. Senator and Presidential candidate Barack Obama, Comptroller Dan Hynes, former Cook County Board President John Stroger, and Cook County Board President Todd Stroger. Rezko has also raised money for former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, a Republican, and he co-chaired a megamillion-dollar fund-raiser for President George W. Bush in 2003.

The indictment of Rezko on federal charges has drawn attention to his relationship with Illinois Senator Barack Obama.

In November 2006, Obama drew media scrutiny when it came to light that in 2005, he had purchased his house on the South Side of Chicago for $300,000 below the asking price on the same day that Rezko's wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining empty lot for the full asking price. The lots had originally been a single lot, but the previous owners decided to sell the land as two separate lots and, according to Obama, the owners required that the sale of both lots be closed on the same date. Obama subsequently bought a 10 foot (3.0 m) wide strip of Rita's property for $104,500, $60,000 above the assessed value. According to Chicago Sun-Times columnist, Mark Brown, "Rezko definitely did Obama a favor by selling him the 10-foot strip of land, making his own parcel less attractive for development." Obama acknowledges that the exchange may have created the appearance of impropriety, and stated "I consider this a mistake on my part and I regret it." On December 28, 2006, Rita sold the property to a company owned by her husband's former business attorney for $575,000, netting a profit of $54,500 prior to expenses and property taxes. In October 2007, the new owners put the still vacant land up for sale again, this time for $1.5 million.

In June 2007, the Sun-Times published a story about letters Obama had written in 1997 to city and state officials in support of a low-income senior citizen development project headed by Rezko and partner Allison Davis. The project received more than $14 million in taxpayer funds, including $885,000 in development fees for Rezko and Davis. Of Obama's letters in support of the Cottage View Terrace apartments development, Obama spokesman Bill Burton said "This wasn't done as a favor for anyone, it was done in the interests of the people in the community who have benefited from the project. I don't know that anyone specifically asked him to write this letter nine years ago. There was a consensus in the community about the positive impact the project would make and Obama supported it because it was going to help people in his district." Rezko's attorney responded that "Mr. Rezko never spoke with, nor sought a letter from, Senator Obama in connection with that project. Obama had told the Sun-Times that Rezko raised "between $50,000 and $60,000" during Obama's political career, although the New York Times reports a total of about $150,000. Since then, Obama has returned or donated to charity more than $84,000 of funds linked to Rezko.

In the South Carolina Democratic Party presidential debate on January 21, 2008, Senator Hillary Clinton said that Obama had represented Rezko, who she referred to as a slum landlord. Obama responded that he had never represented Rezko and had done work indirectly for Rezko's firm for an estimated five hours.

** AYERS-DORHN **

"In the fall of 2006, William Ayers was disinvited to a conference for progressive educators on the grounds that his position supporting political terrorism would tarnish the reputation and standing of the progressive education movement"

Ayers was a 1960s-era political activist and Weather Underground member. He grew up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago in a highly privileged family (his father, Thomas Ayers, was Chairman and CEO of Commonwealth Edison) and attended Lake Forest Academy. According to Ayers' memoir Fugitive Days, he became radicalized at the University of Michigan. During his years there, he became involved in the New Left and the SDS.

Ayers went underground with several comrades including Brandy Diekman, after their co-conspirators' bomb accidentally exploded on March 6, 1970, destroying a Greenwich Village townhouse and killing three members of the Weather Underground (Ted Gold, Terry Robbins, and Diana Oughton, who was Ayers' girlfriend at the time). He and his colleagues invented identities and traveled continuously. They avoided the police and FBI, while bombing high-profile government buildings including the United States Capitol, The Pentagon, and the Harry S Truman Building housing the State Department. Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn raised two children, Zayd and Malik, underground before turning themselves in in 1981, when most charges were dropped because of prosecutorial misconduct during the long search for the fugitives. They also adopted a son, Chesa Boudin, who is the biological son of former Weathermen David Gilbert and Kathy Boudin.

Ayers published his memoirs in 2001 with the book Fugitive Days. His interview with the New York Times to promote his book was published on September 11, 2001, and includes his reaction to Emile De Antonio's 1976 documentary film about the Weathermen: "He was 'embarrassed by the arrogance, the solipsism, the absolute certainty that we and we alone knew the way,' he writes. 'The rigidity and the narcissism.'" In this interview, he also was quoted as saying, "I don't regret setting bombs; I feel we didn't do enough."

Ayers has also edited and written nearly a dozen books on education theory, policy and practice.

Chicago politics isn't corrupt, huh?

So to be a part of this Machine is to belong to something special. And the Machine doesn’t just embrace politicians. It also nurtures an army of businessmen, contractors, entrepreneurs, shady operators, sleaze balls, and outright criminals who feed off city contracts and depend on politicians to grease the system to funnel the goodies their way. In return, the politicians get campaign contributions, fancy dinners at 5-star restaurants, sweetheart deals on everything from cars to houses, and occasionally cold, hard cash.

This is a city where the politician, the businessman, and the criminal element constantly rub shoulders and have been known to exchange hats on occasion. Every once and a while, an “insurgency” rears its head and runs an independent slate of candidates. Sometimes, they meet with limited success – especially after some mind-blowing example of sleaze has been splashed across the papers for a couple of months prior to the election.

Obama is starting to make Bush (whom I cannot stand) like a saint:

Then there was the strange case of Obama intervening with the State Department on behalf of one of Rezko’s business associates who was being denied entry to the US because he was considered an “undesirable alien.”

One of the richest men in the world, Nadhmi Auchi, who Rezko owed more than $27 million in “loans,” was looking to come to Chicago. After receiving another “loan” from Auchi, Rezko told prosecutors that he approached Senator Obama to try and get a visa for the billionaire. Obama denies he was approached and there is no record (yet) of any entreaties he made to the State Department on Auchi’s behalf.

All these "suspicious" relationships, business deals and so forth are what make me not trust Obama. As the story says, there seems to be no bottom to the story about Rezko, Ayers, Achi, et al. When in doubt (as I and many voters are), don't vote for the guy. Too many fishy and scary things in his past!!

"The significance of this relationship (with Rezko) is that it proves that Barack Obama is not who he claims to be – a new kind of politician who will lead us all to the Promised Land. Obama can lie like any normal politician. He can do favors for his supporters who give him money. He can do business with scam artists like Rezko whose illegal activities authorities are still trying to unravel.

Given what we know already, there doesn’t seem to be a “bottom” to this story yet. And what we find when we get there may yet prove to be Barack Obama’s undoing as a candidate for President of the United States."

One after another after another revelations of Obama's lack of ethics, poor judgment and willingness to rub elbows with shady "businessmen" to get to the top make him a very questionable candidate for the true change he touts.

If he is willing to or has to rub elbows with these corrupt types, then how can a rational, intelligent voter think he is really going to bring change to Washingtion or this country?

Maybe he'll bring change, but will it be the Chicago kind of change of corruption and questionable judgment/associations?

from Pajamasmedia:

By themselves, none of these relationships should be enough to significantly damage the Obama campaign, but taken together, they start to build a picture of a candidate who too closely associates with radical ideologies, a perception already being shaped by both the Clinton and McCain campaigns.

From Sister Toldjah,

Obama SAYS he doesn't take money from lobbyists. Truth is:

1) On not taking money from DC lobbyists and special interest PACS: This is the type of double-talk “politics of the past” rhetoric he rails against. While his claim is technically true, what he does do is take money from state lobbyists and other big money contributors who have substantial lobbyist machines in DC, like law firms and corporations. In April 2007, the LA Times quoted the Campaign Finance Institute’s Stephen Weissman as pointing out that the distinction Obama makes on lobbyist money is meaningless: “He gets an asterisk that says he is trying to be different. … But overall, the same wealthy interests are funding his campaign as are funding other candidates, whether or not they are lobbyists.” The Capital Eye reported that “[a]ccording to the Center for Responsive Politics, 14 of Obama’s top 20 contributors employed lobbyists this year, spending a total of $16.2 million to influence the federal government in the first six months of 2007.” Obama’s no stranger to being influenced by those campaign donations, either.

NO Obama said...

The Puppet Obama:

2) His ability to “get things done”: Sure he has it, if you consider that every bill he passed as a State Senator was passed his last year in office by a Democrat-controlled legislature. Also, some of the more high profile accomplishments he cites now like the racial profiling/videotape confession legislation were bills where a lot of the legwork had been done by other Democrats in the legislature years prior when it was controlled by Republicans, but were given to Obama by his kingmaker, Senate president Emil Jones, Jr. in order for him to make the “close” (where he often did). When asked about this by the Houston Press’ Todd Spivak, State Senator Rickey Hendon replied, “I don’t consider it bill jacking. … But no one wants to carry the ball 99 yards all the way to the one-yard line, and then give it to the halfback who gets all the credit and the stats in the record book.” This isn’t to suggest that Obama’s achievements in the state senate are totally without merit, but instead to point out they weren’t all done by his leaping tall buildings in a single bound. He had a lot of help from Democrats. Consider this, too: if he wins, he will have a solid Democrat Congress to work with, so the only “reaching out” he’d have to do would be to the few moderate Republicans who have already proven themselves all too eager to vote with liberal Democrats

NO Obama said...

YOU are no JFK Obama and you seem to shade the facts or have a very poor memory:

3) His courage: Contrary to a recent hyperbolic campaign ad, it wasn’t “courageous” to give his 2002 anti-war speech, primarily because he delivered it at an anti-Iraq war rally. At the last debate, America’s former co-president claimed that it was easy to give that speech, and it wasn’t a gamble for him because he wasn’t in the US Senate and therefore wasn’t in a position of responsibility. Obama’s impassioned reply was, “I was in the midst of a U.S. Senate campaign. It was a high-stakes campaign.” Wrong. In reality, Obama did not announce his intentions to run for the US Senate until January 2003.

NO Obama said...

EQUIVOCATOR!! (language meant to deceive) LIAR!!

4) Experience: He downplays the question now, but after he was elected to serve in the US Senate in 2004, he was questioned about running on a national ticket. His response was, “I am a believer in knowing what you’re doing when you apply for a job. And I think that if I were to seriously consider running on a national ticket I would essentially have to start now, before having served a day in the Senate. Now, there are some people who might be comfortable doing that, but I’m not one of those people.” A little over a year later, he definitively stated he would not run for president, and wanted to serve out his full Senate term.

NO Obama said...

Can't walk and chew gum at the same time!!!

5) His “commitment” to Afghanistan: He believes the US “took its eye off the ball” when we went into Iraq, and promises to refocus on Afghanistan as president. The reality is that since Obama began chairing the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Subcommittee on European Affairs in January 2007, not a single policy hearing has been conducted on anything, Afghanistan or otherwise. When Clinton brought this up at the Cleveland debate, Obama conceded, “I became chairman of this committee at the beginning of this campaign. … So it is true that we haven’t had oversight hearings on Afghanistan.” ‘Nuff said

Way on the back burner of reportage -- three of Bobby Kennedy's own children, the son of Cesar Chavez and the United Farmworkers union had already endorsed Clinton.

In Nevada, Latinos in the 60,000 member Culinary Workers Union defied their white male leadership's endorsement of Obama and helped Clinton win the caucus there.

While the Florida primary was showing Clinton with a 15 percent lead in the polls, CNN fill-in anchor Bob Acosta complemented NBC's aggressive push by declaring the Obama campaign had become a "runaway train" following its big South Carolina victory.

"The Democratic establishment would be crazy to follow an establishment that led it to defeat year after year," Kristol continued in his woolly, repetitive style. "White women are a problem, you know. We all live with that."

Bill Kristol has been much criticized for his war mongering, arrogance, poor writing and lack of fact checking. But at least the guy is honest. He considers women a problem -- especially white women. And he feels confident enough as an alpha male to be open about it. "I shouldn't have said that," he demurred. But he can say anything he likes and still fall eternally upward. "Who Is Nadhmi Auchi and What's His Tie to Obama?
By Jack Kelly

You probably would have heard of Nadhmi Auchi by now if Sen. Barack Obama were a Republican.
A British citizen of Iraqi descent, Mr. Auchi, 70, is a billionaire, the 279th richest man in the world, according to a Forbes magazine survey last year.

A great deal of Mr. Auchi's money was made doing business with the regime of Saddam Hussein, much of it under the table. In 1987, Mr. Auchi helped French and Italian firms win a huge oil pipeline contract in Iraq, chiefly by paying off Iraqi officials, according to testimony given by an Italian banker to prosecutors in Milan. In 2003, he was convicted for his role in what was then the largest scandal in French history, involving payoffs from executives of the oil company now known as Total to political figures in Spain, Germany and Africa.

"He has been able to collect British politicians the way other people collect stamps," wrote Nick Cohen in a 2003 profile of Mr. Auchi in the left wing British newspaper the Observer.

Mr. Auchi was a leading supplier of arms to Saddam's regime. A former Belgian ambassador to Luxembourg charged that a bank in Luxembourg owned principally by Mr. Auchi laundered funds -- including oil for food money -- for Saddam and other Islamic dictators.

"The name Nadhmi Auchi was just another name for Saddam's intelligence service, or so we thought," said Nibras Kazimi, a former Iraqi dissident who is now a visiting scholar at the Hudson Institute in Washington D.C.

Mr. Auchi is a business partner of Syrian-born businessman Antoin "Tony" Rezko, who has supported Mr. Obama financially since his first run for the Illinois state senate in 1996.

Mr. Rezko currently is in jail awaiting trial on charges he extorted money from firms seeking to do business with the state of Illinois. (Mr. Rezko was also a fund raiser for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.) Mr. Rezko's bail was revoked Jan. 28 when the trial judge learned that he, friends and relatives had been wired $3.5 million from firms in Lebanon controlled by Mr. Auchi. The judge feared Mr. Rezko was about to flee the country.

Federal prosecutors allege a $10,000 contribution made by Mr. Rezko to Sen. Obama came from a $250,000 kickback, but there is no evidence Sen. Obama was aware of the source of the funds. Nor is there evidence Sen. Obama did any favors for Mr. Rezko that skirted the law.

The most eyebrow raising connection between Mr. Rezko and Sen. Obama is the assistance Mr. Rezko provided in the purchase of the mansion on Chicago's South Side that Sen. Obama bought in 2005. The Obamas bought the house for $1.65 million -- $300,000 below the asking price -- perhaps because Mr. Rezko's wife purchased from the owner an adjacent garden plot for $625,000. (The sellers deny they offered the Obamas a discount.) The Times of London wondered where Mrs. Rezko got the money to buy the garden plot. At the time, she had a salary of $37,000 and assets of only $35,000, the Times learned. Her husband told a court that at the time he had "no income, negative cash flow, no liquid assets," the Times said.

The Times learned Mr. Rezko received an earlier $3.5 million loan from Mr. Auchi on May 23, 2005, through the Panamanian company Fintrade Services SA.

Mr. Rezko has described Mr. Auchi as a "close friend." Mr. Auchi says they have only a business relationship. They've been partners in a chain of pizza restaurants in Wisconsin and in a major real estate development in Riverside Park in Chicago.

The connection between Mr. Auchi and Sen. Obama is tenuous. But given Mr. Auchi's shady past, his history of bribing politicians, it's not unreasonable to ask if Mr. Auchi, through Mr. Rezko, was trying to buy influence with a rising political star. And it's curious that outside of the Chicago Sun Times and the Chicago Tribune, both of which have written extensively on the Rezko-Obama relationship, only a British newspaper is asking.

The New York Times and the Washington Post have made much of Sen. John McCain's friendship with an attractive female lobbyist, though not even the Times' anonymous sources allege Sen. McCain had an affair with Vicki Iseman, or acted improperly on behalf of her clients. But they and the rest of the national news media have been remarkably incurious about Sen. Obama's relationship with Mr. Rezko, and his with Mr. Auchi.

Mr. Rezko's trial begins Monday, March 3. It will be interesting to see if the national news media will cover it."

Obama on change you can believe in.

Has Obama's campaign about changing American politics come down to the Clinton's tax returns?

Good concept, we will see if it works against Hillarys attack ad, and victim.

If it works well I bet we will see similar tatics in Penn to make people not trust Hillary.

Obam is a racist:

Anti-Indian: After the Obama campaign released a paper disparaging other candidates for their ties to the Indian-American community, the chairman of the bipartisan US India Political Action Committee, Sanjay Puri, stated that the Obama Campaign was “engaging in the worst kind of anti-Indian American stereotyping.” Of course, Obama denied any hand in the racist document put out by his campaign.

Wow How is Hillary supposed to lead our country when she can not even get all her delegates in place, in the most important state for her.

http://www.philly.com/philly/hp/news_update/15759032.html

It appears Clinton came up 10 or 11 candidates short across a number of congressional districts, including two in Philadelphia.

That's close to 10 percent of the 103 delegates to be decided by voters.

It appears the shortage would've been double that if Rendell hadn't extended last week's candidate filing deadline by a day and a half, ostensibly due to bad weather.

This shows her inability to lead.

'NAFTAgate' began with remark from Harper's chief of staff

ALEXANDER PANETTA

March 5, 2008 at 8:53 PM EST

OTTAWA — If the Prime Minister is seeking the first link in the chain of events that has rocked the U.S. presidential race, he need look no further than his chief of staff, Ian Brodie, The Canadian Press has learned.

A candid comment to journalists from CTV News by Prime Minister Stephen Harper's most senior political staffer during the hurly-burly of a budget lock-up provided the initial spark in what the American media are now calling NAFTAgate.

Mr. Harper announced Wednesday that he has asked an internal security team to begin finding the source of a document leak that he characterized as being "blatantly unfair" to Senator Barack Obama.

What is now a swirling Canada-U.S. controversy began on Feb. 26, when the usually circumspect Mr. Brodie was milling among droves of Canadian media on budget day in the stately old building that once housed Ottawa's train station.

The Globe and Mail

Reporters were locked up there all day, examining the federal budget until they were allowed to leave once it was tabled in the House of Commons at 4 p.m.

Since the budget contained little in the way of headline-grabbing surprises, some were left with enough free time to gather around a large-screen TV to watch the latest hockey news on NHL trade deadline day.

Mr. Brodie wandered over to speak to Finance Department officials and chatted amiably with journalists — who appreciated this rare moment of direct access to the top official in Mr. Harper's notoriously tight-lipped government.

The former university professor found himself in a room with CTV employees where he was quickly surrounded by a gaggle of reporters while other journalists were within earshot of other colleagues.

At the end of an extended conversation, Mr. Brodie was asked about remarks aimed by the Democratic candidates at Ohio's anti-NAFTA voters that carried serious economic implications for Canada.

Since 75 per cent of Canadian exports go to the U.S., Mr. Obama and Ms. Clinton's musings about reopening the North American free-trade pact had caused some concern.

Mr. Brodie downplayed those concerns.

"Quite a few people heard it," said one source in the room.

"He said someone from (Hillary) Clinton's campaign is telling the embassy to take it with a grain of salt. . . That someone called us and told us not to worry."

Government officials did not deny the conversation took place.

They said that Mr. Brodie sought to allay concerns about the impact of Mr. Obama and Ms. Clinton's assertion that they would re-negotiate NAFTA if elected. But they did say that Mr. Brodie had no recollection of discussing any specific candidate — either Ms. Clinton or Mr. Obama.

CTV News President Robert Hurst said he would not discuss his journalists' sources.

But others said the content of Mr. Brodie's remarks was passed on to CTV's Washington bureau and their White House correspondent set out the next day to pursue the story on Ms. Clinton's apparent hypocrisy on the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Although CTV correspondent Tom Clark mentioned Ms. Clinton in passing, the focus of his story was on assurances from the Obama camp.

He went to air on Feb. 27 with a report that the Democratic front-runner had given advance notice to Canadian diplomats that he was about to engage in some anti-NAFTA rhetoric, but not to take it too seriously.

The report wound up on YouTube and caused an uproar in the U.S. race — influencing the final days of the critical Ohio primary, with every indication it will also play a role in the upcoming Pennsylvania vote.

Mr. Obama has been pilloried by his opponents and faced the most aggressive questioning of his heretofore smooth-sailing campaign.

Clinton used the story to cast him as a double-talking hypocrite — winking and nudging at Canadians while making contrary promises to American voters.

Republican nominee John McCain — who proudly dubs himself a straight-talker — has also seized on the incident to paint the Democratic front-runner as anything but.

When Mr. Obama's campaign and the Canadian government denied the allegation, a leaked document was obtained by The Associated Press written by a Canadian diplomat. It chronicled a conversation between Obama economic adviser Austan Goulsbee and diplomats at Canada's Chicago consulate.

The Obama aide has challenged the wording of the memo and says it characterized the conversation unfairly. A government official said that memo was initially e-mailed to over 120 government employees.

Mr. Harper has rebuffed opposition requests to call in the RCMP and also investigate the source of the original tip that led to the CTV report that triggered the diplomatic tempest. But a team of internal security agents has begun an investigation that will see dozens of bureaucrats and political staff questioned about their knowledge of the leak.

"This kind of leaking of information is completely unacceptable. In fact, it may well be illegal," Mr. Harper told the House of Commons.

"It is not useful, it is not in the interests of the government of Canada — and the way the leak was executed was blatantly unfair to Senator Obama and his campaign.

"Based on what (investigators) find, and based on legal advice, we will take any action that is necessary to get to the bottom of this matter."

NDP Leader Jack Layton is asking Mr. Harper to call on the Mounties to find out how the leaks occurred, and whether the Security of Information Act or any other privacy legislation was breached.

"There can be no doubt about it: the leak from within the Canadian government has had an impact now on the American elections," Mr. Layton said Wednesday.

"That is about the worst thing a country could do to another country — to have an effect on their democratic process. . . If Mr. Harper isn't willing to call in the RCMP that confirms our suspicion that this was intentional."

Mr. Layton said Canadians would never accept Americans interfering in our elections, and we shouldn't tamper with theirs.

He said the incident is far more serious than another one last year in which the government called in the RCMP.

A temporary employee at Environment Canada was arrested in his office and marched out in handcuffs for allegedly leaking details of a government climate-change plan to the media.

Mr. Layton said that's small potatoes compared with inflicting political damage on one of the three contenders to lead the world's biggest superpower, and Canada's neighbour and largest trading partner.

"He's unwilling to treat it with the level of serious attention that he did when there was a junior bureaucrat at environment. . . He called in the RCMP on that one."

Just noticed something else totally undemocratic about Super delegates. Did you know they are NOT representative of population.

I live in Washington State, with a population of 6,395,798. We have 17 Super Delegates. Massachusetts has a population of 6,437,193 and they have 26.

Anybody help me out with that math?
I thought we were the "Democratic" Party?
