The following description of the Add-on Delegates is taken from the Democratic National Convention Committee(DNCC) web site:
"Add-on delegates - may be selected by either the same selecting body that selects the state's PLEO delegates or by the same selecting body which will select the state's "at-large" delegates. They can be selected whether or not they previously filed a statement of candidacy for a delegate position or submitted a pledge of support for a presidential candidate..
Add-ons who have endorsed are shown by a (O) or (C) after their name. They will be listed on our endorsement page. If no letter is shown, they are on the Undeclared list.

Does this mean all the add-on delegates for a given state will be chosen so as to support the overall delegate winner of that state?
What does it mean when it says there are both pledged and unpledged add-on delegates? I haven't seen any reference to pledged add-ons anywhere. Are they talking about the pledged at-large delegates?
Jose - We have not made any implication about how the add-ons will be chosen. Each state has different rules - we'll be watching this closely.
Kcindc - that text made no sense to me either, and I've deleted in from the post. There's no reference in the DNC documentation that I have to pledged add-on delegates. Nothing could be better than the DNCC website to have confusing information on it.
Thanks for this, suggest it would be useful to also add a column to show where available the delgate results of the Primary or Caucaus whic determines who is at the State convention.
I think in those states with 1 delegate the winner will determine who gets elected, in those with more than 1 the state rules may have some proportionality or it may be winner takes all as "in theory" these are not pledged delegates.
You should probably add Mark Panetta's name to the DC unpledged add-on tally in your table (Apr. 3). The "DC statehood Representative" is already listed in the Obama endorsement column.
Typically yes it does mean that the add-on goes to the state winner. In 2004, Oregon gave Kucinich a few delegates but the add-on went to Kerry as the statewide winner.
Now I'm even more confused. Are these 76 / 81 "add on" delegates part of the roughly 343 undeclared superdelegates? Or are they supposed to be choosen and then immediately/quickly given an "assignment" of who it is they are supposed to vote for at the convention?
As for the CT add-on, it is being selected at a meeting being held *at* State Central (the office suite in Hartford), but not *by* State Central (the elected body which constitutes the official state Democratic party.)
The district-level delegates will be selecting the add on, and the district-level delegation reads 17 for Obama, 14 for Clinton.
rickyjames - the add-ons are officially "Unpledged", so they are not "assigned" in any way. If one candidate controls the selection process they may be able to pick an add-on who feels the same way, but that's a selection issue. The are unpledged, and are part of the 343.
I think you mean they're part of the 795 (the superdelegates), and *most* of them are currently part of the 343 (the undeclared superdelegates). But 2 of them have declared for Obama, and presumably others will be assigned to Obama or Clinton as they make statements, just like any other superdelegates.
Thanks for the clarification. I understand that there may be some "spin" in the selection process that yields picks in this group that lean in one direction or the other, but the clarification that they are officially "superdelegates" helps. The thing that confuses me is that there are still states who have already held their primaries / caucuses that have apparently still not specified / awarded all of their pledged delegates yet. I still don't know what they're waiting for, you'd think the pledged delegates would all be identified by candidate the day after the election, but nooooooo.....
Just out of curiosity, does the DCW/AP/CNN/CBS etc numbers include some sort of estimated split of these "still in limbo" pledged delegates? Any chance of a sudden surprise that a block (like that creepy "Unknown - IA" of 14 you list below Edwards delegates) will suddenly be announced as "for Clinton" and shift the current balance in a big way?
rickyjames - not sure what your definition of "still in limbo", but the media includes estimates of national pledged delegates where it thinks it has enough information to do so.
The Iowa 14 will depend on what happens at the County Conventions this Saturday. See the post made earlier today for more details.
In a few weeks you may want to add a column that specifies who the new add-ons have endorsed. It might make it easier to understand. If they are still uncommitted after they are named it should be so noted.

I second math 101's motion. It would be extremely helpful to have this info in this chart without having to navigate around the site to figure out add-on endorsements. Maybe a total at the top or bottom of the chart of endorsements for Obama, Clinton, and Uncommitted.

We've added a (O) or (C) after each add-on who has endorsed. Hope that helps. The Supers by Position in the sidebar gives the totals for the add-ons, currently 5 for Obama, 1 for Clinton.

I am rather confused about New Hampshire. Is Kathy Franklin the same person as Kathy Sullivan? If they are two different people, then why is Kathy Franklin not on the Superdelegate Endorsement List?

According to fundrace.huffingtonpost.com, William C Bashein (OH add-on???) has previously given money to the John Edwards campaign.
Second MA add-on is Attorney General Martha Coakley. We have her as uncommitted.
While knowing from my own experience in my own state that local requirements can trump the national campaign, I have trouble seeing how Obama would get fewer than 20 of the remaining unpledged add-ons.
p.s. That reference to pledged add-ons. Sometimes the pledged PLEOs are called add-ons because of the way that they are assigned to the states. The DNC delegate calculation begins with each state getting a base delegation. That base delegation is split 75% to district level delegates and 25% to at-large delegates. They then "add on" 15% to that base delegation for the pledged PLEOs. In other words, in DNC speak, every state gets 115% of the base delegation -- somewhere Garrison Keiler is smiling knowing that every state is above average.
The final tally: Obama won 14 national delegates and Clinton won 11 national delegates. Under the caucus results, Obama was expected to win 13 national delegates to Clinton's 12. Although Clinton won the caucuses, Obama out-performed her in rural Nevada and Washoe County.
The convention has one more delegate to name, although that person goes to the national convention unpledge

Barack Obama picked up an additional delegate Saturday in his run for president when Kansas Democrats gave Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson a seat at the party's national convention.
Parkinson will go to Denver in late August as the state's lone unpledged "add-on" delegate, but he endorsed Obama in February. He wore an Obama button during the state party convention that awarded him the spot.

Customarily, the purpose of the asterisk is to direct readers to some notation below, accompanied by an asterisk, however, my search for the expected notation leaves me in puzzlement. Right now there is a C behind the name of Texas add on Becky Moeller on the add on list...I saw tonight on the superdelegateland blog that she has switched to Obama...her press release was as follows "I proudly, wholeheartedly and optimistically support Barack Obama for president." We're aware that Moeller changed her endorsement - but we're no longer tracking superdelegate endorsement changes, and for the future add-ons, we're going to show their endorsement at the time of their selection. So we'll keep the C next to Moeller's name.
Iowa State Convention has been postponed due to flooding.
Idaho has selected its ad-on superdelegate. He is former US Congressman Richard Stallings. He is expected to support Barack Obama, but was not in attendance at the convention to confirm.
The second Michigan add-on delegate is Richard Long.
"Teamsters President James Hoffa Jr. and United Auto Workers union official Richard Long were selected to fill two superdelegate spots, joining 27 Michigan superdelegates already named."
Because the UAW has endorsed Obama, Long presumably becomes an Obama delegate, just as UAW Secretary-Treasurer Elizabeth Bunn and retired union Vice President Richard Shoemaker did on June 10.

Even tho' Joseph Hogsett, Indiana, previously was a Clinton supporter, I haven't been able to confirm that he will vote for her now that Obama has the nomination.
The Wikipedia site, List of Democratic Party(United States) Superdelegates 2008, has Hogsett as uncommitted. And as you pointed out,it didn't say in the article that he was still a Clinton supporter. I also spoke with two other reporters who covered the Indiana state convention June 21 and they both said that Hogsett is now uncommitted. That's all I have been able to find out so far.
Well, I am the Wikipedia editor who listed it that way! Thanks for the info. Maybe the state convention delegates wanted a nominal Clinton supporter. The whole idea of unpledged superdelegates "endorsing" or "committing" is kind of nebulous now that Clinton herself has endorsed Obama!
For our purposes here, it was to reflect that the add-on was a nominal Clinton supporter. We stopped adding real endorsements on June 6.

Yes, I understand that Hogsett is a nominal Clinton supporter and that is why he is listed here with a C for Clinton...I found two other supers who endorsed Obama on June 7 that are still listed as uncommitted on the Wikipedia site. I didn't think I should take up space regarding them here as this site isn't keeping track of those details any longer...I'd be glad to send you the info directly if you are interested.
