Invesco Podium Preview?

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

There's no way to tell if this is accurate, and even if it is, no way to tell what it will actually look like on TV. But here is the first leaked information on the Invesco stage design:

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple.

The stage, similar to structures used for rock concerts, has been set up at the 50-yard-line, the midpoint of Invesco Field, the stadium where the Denver Broncos' National Football League team plays.

Some 80,000 supporters will see Obama appear from between plywood columns painted off-white, reminiscent of Washington's Capitol building or even the White House, to accept the party's nomination for president.

He will stride out to a raised platform to a podium that can be raised from beneath the floor.

The show should provide a striking image for the millions of Americans watching on television as Obama delivers a speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination.

I hope it's not right. With as strong a candidate as Obama, there's absolutely no need to feed into the "presumptuous" narrative McCain's been pushing. It's like the pseudo-Presidential seal that was floated a while back: no backdrops that evoke the White House! (Or worse yet, a Greek mythology thing.) Standard political red, white, and blue would do fine; then let the candidate and 80,000 supporters carry the night.

Considering how Mccain has been sending "envoys" to Georgia in the middle of war and talking to his president several times a day for no particular reasons, I dont think they would be in a good position to push the presumptuous meme on the media no more.

That's Lincoln Memorial. Tomorrow is 45 years of the "I have a dream" speech. Enough said.

I think the Lincoln Memorial analysis is closer to anything else... do we know who is the set designer?

There has been some live streaming of video from around the stadium, you might check Obamatracker.com for the latest on that.

I guess Obama should land at Invesco Field in an Air Force fighter jet, get out in a flight suit and declare the election over. That way, the Republicans couldn't paint him as presumptuous.

The Obama camp needs to get their surrogates out in media talking about the columns and about how the columns are all over in are nations capitol WASHINGTON, DC. The columns represent democracy and our nation :)

Lincoln Memorial! Of course, that's quite possibly the idea.

Wow. What a BAD idea.

So Obama will look like he's trying to paint himself as MLK, rather than giving tribute to him, except in front of a Hollywood-style set. Even if it's only "evocative" of the Memorial.

It's hard to believe that the campaign would be that dumb. So far, other things that have sounded like potential disasters, like some of the loopier roll call schemes, have turned out to be false rumors. Hopefully this one is too.

Guess what? Bush used columns too in his 2004 RNC speech:
