WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Ohio announced today that the Special Election Dates to fill Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones seat in the Ohio 11th have been set. The primary will be on the 14th of October, (if necessary) and the general will be on the 18th of November.

The winner will fill Tubbs Jones' seat through the end of the term, and her seat will be filled in January by the winner of the 4 November election.

Some of you could be wondering, "why not schedule the primary for the national election day and have the general election in December?" This would mean the state only pays for one special election.

Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland is being mindful of one important thing: outgoing presidents often push legislation through after the final election that takes place during their final term (I believe the GATT agreement may have been taken up in 2000).

To get someone in Congress right away would be to ensure that they could vote on any last-minute legilslation prior to Thanksgiving.
