This is Wrong, Two

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Matt wrote 3 hours ago how wrong it would be to deliver an acceptance speech from a zone of devastation.

Well, now it's a few hours later, and the John and Sarah Show is off to disrupt the evacuation.

Likely GOP presidential nominee John McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, are traveling to Mississippi on Sunday to check on people getting prepared for Hurricane Gustav.
If you've even sat in traffic while a motorcade tied up traffic for HOURS, you'll immediately see how wrong this is.

While Mississippi is not evacuating, they are still in the danger zone, and the last thing they need is a pair of pandering lightweights disrupting the necessary job of disaster preparedness.

Over in New Orleans, they are preparing for Gustav. While the storm weakened slightly over Cuba, it is expected to intensify. Ray Nagin:

New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin called Gustav "the mother of all storms," saying its destruction could outstrip that from Katrina, which flooded much of his city.

"You need to be scared," Nagin said of the Category 4 hurricane tearing along Cuba's western coast. "You need to be concerned, and you need to get your butts moving out of New Orleans right now. This is the storm of the century."

"The McCains and Palin will receive a briefing at the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency — a permanent operations center monitoring hurricane response."

Huh? Since when is Lady McCain entitled to any briefing at any level? What's next? A situation report on tensions along the Pakistan border?

And lay some blame on the MS Republican governor who wants a show since he may not get to the convention on time. The only officials who should travel into the zone should be helping. The president, no matter what party, has the need to go in. NOT the candidates. I don't see Jindal inviting candidates in for a mint julep on the front porch. He's taking this seriously!

Yet if these Republican candidates were not visiting the storm zone you would be ranting and raving about how the GOP is racist and doesn't care about New Orleans. Liberals are as illogical as children.

Nonsense! They can visit a storm zone only if they stay out of the way of those doing work or lend a hand to evacuate people or work in the hospitals. Just going down there for photo-opt is a waste of time and distracting. The Repugnicans hold a monopoly on lies and deception. They care NOTHING about people unless they can further their wealth amassing agenda.

Don't you love the way super mom Palin is taking her children down with her... just as bad as her 12 hour plane trip while her water bag was breaking and threatining the early delivery of her special needs child. or grandchild...not sure which. So much for family values

Yep. I was never impressed with her but her candidacy is an embarrassment to women.

How fitting that a major hurricane should threaten the gulf coast as the GOP convention is about to start. Hopefully any property damage that occurs will remind all Americans of the completely inept response to Katrina, and the shutdown of offshore oil rigs and refining facilities which will no doubt cause a spike is gas prices should be a compelling argument against McCain's "drill here, drill now" mantra

Typical liberal, hoping for property damage and tragedy to further your politics.
Reply
Of course you ignored comments on this site stating that we hope there is no property damage or loss of life in this storm.

At least the Democrats aren't responsible for fabricating lies to wage the war Iraq which destroyed property and killed millions of people including thousands of US troops. That would be a Republican legacy to further their political agenda and increase the wealth of war profiteers.

better than waiting to respond in a non-election year and hoping on the quick response bandwagon when it serves your own political gains. Death is only unaccepable in an election year. Suddenly Republicans care.

Umm, I'm a little worried here. As a Canadian, why are we putting our people in harms way to drop 27 tons of assistance to New Orleans? During Katrina the first out-of-town support was from the City of Vancouver Urban Search and Rescue Team. Help yourselves.

Thank God Bush is coming down. I feel safer already.

I hope Bush gets swept away by the storm, of either disgruntled people, or wind and water.

and that McCain is with him when it happens!

I only wonder how many would still be alive if Katrina had happened in an election year. I love how they have claimed to have learned from their mistakes, but the only thing they know for sure is that this is not the time to be as unresponsive as they have been in the past. Again ... me first...people of the United States only if it serves me.

So during Katrina, Bush was clearing brush, but this time he needs to be personally gassing up the FEMA trucks. With all due concern for those in Gustav's path, this looks like a transparent and bogus excuse to avoid having the two most unpopular Republicans appear at the Republican Convention. That way, we can all forget that McCain is a... Republican... you know, the party that had a stranglehold on the government for most of the disastrous last 8 years.

I haven't yet seen blogs/articles which have picked up on the irony of Gustav. Just a few weeks ago the far right called upon people to pray for rain -- that is, a deluge that would disrupt Obama's big speech in Denver. Lo and behold, Hurricane Gustav is disrupting the GOP convention. Karma's a biznitch, ain't it?

What is Obama gonna do? What is Biden gonna do? They are going to do nothing like McCain and Palin, nothing, all 4 are worthless.

Can't see anything constructive coming from McSame/Palin but Obama has at least provided a venue for those of us who care to assist those who are affected by the storm.

Obama has put a link on the front top page of his website for the American cross and also this:

<a href="http://my.barackobama.com/page/community... " target="_blank">http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/sam...

He has done much more than McCain has done and Obama is fixin to do even more.

Everyone please do not turn this disaster into a campaign issue or an opportunity for pandering to voters.

gdfgfggfd - I will agree with you that McCain and Palin are going to be worthless during the hurricane, but not Obama.

Candidates should stay the hell away from the hurricane region -- they bring too much calamity and traffic and aren't in charge anyway. McCain and Palin's little side trip was a dangerous gimmick that took away from the work at hand. Obama has the right idea by staying away but speaking upo.
