McCain to announce VP day after Obama speech

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) plans to celebrate his 72nd birthday on Aug. 29 by naming his running mate at a huge rally in the battleground state of Ohio, Republican sources said.

That’s a week from this Friday, and the day after Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) accepts the Democratic nomination at a 70,000-person spectacular in a Denver stadium. - Politico
Just because he's in Ohio, don't assume its Rob Portman. He's in Ohio because, well, it's Ohio.

And from a strategy point of view, this is probably the best day for them. It guarantees them a split of the news coverage on the day after Obama's speech.

Update: The NY Times says its down to 3, Bayh, Biden or Kaine, with a possible announcement Wednesday. Which means it could still be any day...
