Hey everyone

you talked about Hillary going after Palin even she has to be careful but I do hope she chews her another AO but in a democrat way.

But there's no doubt that Hillary will be able to do that. Palin thinks she's tough she hasn't seen nothing yet. Just wait until Hillary gets to her. I can't wait. Go Hillary show this barracuda why she's not right for the office of VP. The main reason: no experience, has to ask what does a VP do [how funny], doesn't give a rats ass about the american people [only Alaska].

But most of all not even close to the experience, and caring of America like Hillary and Obama. AJ

You throw it out there and move on. Like who cares about Noonan's rebuttle. The real story was she said the campaign is over - toast.

The issue of Bristols pregnancy is over. The real story was that it was uncovered and forced the McCain Campaign to react.

The National Enquirer story about a possible afair is out there. Who cares if they actually find anything.

The story of her alleged interference with the State Safety Commissioners role and firing his is out there. Who cares if in November she is found not guilty. The story is out there.

Keep the bullshit going. With enough of it out there, some of it is bound to stick. And if enough sticks, her credibility is shot long before they can restore it.

Shorter RNC Day Three: "Death To Community Organizers!"

Be sure to especially read the last paragraph and spread the above link to everyone you know!

Independent Voter said...

Hey ya'll. I hope you will all do this.

Tonight the GOP attacked, disrespected, and insulted not only Senator Obama, but community organizers EVERYWHERE. Although I am anti-religion (this is nothing nobody already knew), however I do know that their community organizations provide much needed good to people who are not looking for handouts but a help up when it comes to possible foreclosures, job loss, healthcare, etc.

HuffPo has an article which can be found HERE discussing a Community Service forum that Obama and McCain will be attending on September 11th. There is a link (at the very end of the article) that provides the e-mail addresses of those who work for the organization that will be moderating this forum.

My suggestion would to literally bombard them with e-mails demanding (or simply requesting) that they call McCain out on the spectacle of the entire RNC mocking community organizers. I have already sent an e-mail to them. If you would like I can post what I e-mailed them if you would like to get a general idea as to what to put in your e-mail. (After all, I did some community organization in Phoenix about 10 years ago.)

Here is a good example:

I saw that picture of Palin in a black leather mini-skirt and stilleto heals. A real tart.

I circulated it to a couple of my friends with a caption. I didn't learn that it was a fake until today, but that doesn't matter. The impression is already in my mind and I can't erase it.

The Repulsive Party does this all the time. For example once Michell Obama said "that was the first time I was proud of my country", they got the story out that she was unpatriotic. It stuck for one hell of a long time. They just let it sit out there and let it go viral.

How many poeple still believe that Barak Obama is a Musilum?

The story that Sarah Palin was a member of the Independance Party, it went round the country in a hurry. Lots of people will stick with that story no matter what else is said. Who cares if it can only be proven that her husband was a member.

Most people never hear the rebuttle to a story, and a rebutttle always has way less impact than the original story.

Bob in Vancouver said...

Palin's comment about Community Orginizers was a slam agains Barak Obama's community work (experience) when he acted as an organizer with the unemployed in Illinois when he was younger.

Independent Voter said...

Bob, it wasn't just a slam against Obama, it was a slam against ALL community organizers. It was their THEME of the night. Romney did it, Guilliani did it, Mike Huckabee did it.

We were watching it in my political science class this evening and then I rushed home to watch the rest of it.

Nearly everyone in the class was really pissed. I hope that everyone e-mails the forum moderation team in the huffpo article.

Campaign manager David Plouffe just sent out this email...

Dear Friend --

I wasn't planning on sending you something tonight. But if you saw what I saw from the Republican convention, you know that it demands a response.

I saw John McCain's attack squad of negative, cynical politicians. They lied about Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and they attacked you for being a part of this campaign.

But worst of all -- and this deserves to be noted -- they insulted the very idea that ordinary people have a role to play in our political process.

You know that despite what John McCain and his attack squad say, everyday people have the power to build something extraordinary when we come together. Will you make a donation right now to remind them?

Both Rudy Giuliani and Sarah Palin specifically mocked Barack's experience as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago more than two decades ago, where he worked with people who had lost jobs and been left behind when the local steel plants closed.

Let's clarify something for them right now.

Community organizing is how ordinary people respond to out-of-touch politicians and their failed policies.

And it's no surprise that, after eight years of George Bush, millions of people have found that by coming together in their local communities they can change the course of history. That promise is what our campaign has been about from the beginning.

Throughout our history, ordinary people have made good on America's promise by organizing for change from the bottom up. Community organizing is the foundation of the civil rights movement, the women's suffrage movement, labor rights, and the 40-hour workweek. And it's happening today in church basements and community centers and living rooms across America.

Meanwhile, we still haven't gotten a single idea during the entire Republican convention about the economy and how to lift a middle class so harmed by the Bush-McCain policies.

It's now clear that John McCain's campaign has decided that desperate lies and personal attacks -- on Barack Obama and on you -- are the only way they can earn a third term for the Bush policies that McCain has supported more than 90 percent of the time.

But you can send a crystal clear message.

Enough is enough. Make your voice heard loud and clear by making a donation right now:

Thank you for joining more than 2 million ordinary Americans who refuse to be silenced.

if the candidate for either party dies during the campaign, who winds up being on the ticket?

I figure someone here would know the answer.

Independent Voter said...

Vicki - this exact question (I asked a couple weeks ago) caused an uproar on here.

I think the consensus was that it would default over to the VP or the party would nominate a new candidate. It would be up to the party because there are truly no federal guidelines mainly because the parties are private organizations.

Now it also depends on if it before or after Congress confirms that electoral votes (after the Nov. election).

My personal opinion would be that parties would nominate the VP candidates, since the American public were already getting to know the VP candidates. (Again this is before the Nov. election and before Congress confirms the electoral college votes).

Hi, Beryl,

Further down it says the list is bogus. Some weren't even published when she was mayor.

But the idea is there. It scares hell out of me how close we get to a goverment run by complete nutjobs. Eight years is enough.

From the NYTimes Aug. 3rd, "Shortly after becoming mayor, former city officials and Wasilla residents said, Ms. Palin approached the town librarian about the possibility of banning some books, though she never followed through and it was unclear which books or passages were in question.

Ann Kilkenny, a Democrat who said she attended every City Council meeting in Ms. Palin’s first year in office, said Ms. Palin brought up the idea of banning some books at one meeting. “They were somehow morally or socially objectionable to her,” Ms. Kilkenny said.

The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, pledged to “resist all efforts at censorship,” Ms. Kilkenny recalled. Ms. Palin fired Ms. Emmons shortly after taking office but changed course after residents made a strong show of support. Ms. Emmons, who left her job and Wasilla a couple of years later, declined to comment for this article."

Palin speech pulls in $8 million — for Obama

Posted: 05:19 PM ET

From CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser

(CNN) – Barack Obama's campaign says it has raised more than $8 million from over 130,000 donors following Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin's speech Wednesday night.

The campaign also says it is on track to raise $10 million before John McCain takes the podium at the Republican National Convention tonight.

Mike in Maryland said...

I just sent a letter to the editor of The Baltimore Sun that reads as follows:

To the editor,

On Wednesday night, Sarah Palin delivered an address to the Republican National Convention, denigrating 'community organizers'.

Some of the people she effectively denigrated and made fun of included:

- Clara Barton, the founder of the American Red Cross

- Robert S. S. Baden-Powell, Ernest Thompson Seton, Daniel Carter Beard, William D. Boyce, James E. West, the founders of the Boy Scouts movement and the Boy Scouts of America

- William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army

- George Williams, the founder of the YMCA

- Emma Robarts and Mrs. Arthur Kinnaird, co-founders of the YWCA

- A. B. Graham, generally recognized as the founder of the 4-H clubs in America

And I think that most Christians would consider Jesus of Nazareth, St. Peter and St. Paul to be 'community organizers' of the early Christian community, wouldn't they? Didn't Moses and Aaron organize the community of Israelites in order to flee the Pharaoh in Egypt?

Ms. Palin should be careful when she denigrates 'community organizers'. She might be denigrating some of the people she holds in high esteem.

Now to see if it gets printed.

Hillary Reportedly Campaigning For Obama Monday

Hillary To Campaign For Obama In Florida
By Greg Sargent - September 4, 2008, 1:50PM

A bunch of you have written to ask where Hillary is in the wake of Sarah Palin's speech, and here's an answer.

Hillary is set to campaign in Florida for Obama on Monday, a source familiar with her schedule tells me.

Though the details of the trip have yet to be worked out, and the trip's message hasn't been settled on yet, her planned campaigning suggests that the Obama team may start reaching out to Hillary more aggressively in the days ahead to counter whatever effects Palin has.

More when we learn it.

From the Dallas Morning News

Why do Republicans mock "community organizer" role?

9:04 AM Thu, Sep 04, 2008 |
Michael Landauer

I really don't understand the mocking of Obama for being a community organizer as a young man.

Giuliani last night: "On the other hand, you have a resume from a gifted man with an Ivy League education. He worked as a community organizer. What? He worked -- I said -- I said, OK, OK, maybe this is the first problem on the resume."

Palin last night: I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a "community organizer," except that you have actual responsibilities.

Now, the truth is that, starting at age 23, Obama ran a faith-based charity called the Developing Communities Project.

It was made up of eight Catholic parishes when he got there and had one staff member. He was its director, meaning he was in charge. He made decisions about it, including staffing, budgets, etc. And when he left in 1988 to go to law school, he had grown its budget from $70,000 to $400,000, its staff from 1 to 13 people. More important, he created a job training program for this community and a college prep tutoring program.

As mayor, she built a hockey rink/rec center using eminent domain (because apparently there just isn't enough land in Alaska).

And keep in mind the timeline here: Obama did this as a young man BEFORE going to law school, becoming a successful lawyer and a law professor.

I don't think it's right to attack someone for working in a faith-based charity out of college. I think we all have some embarrassing first-jobs in our past. I would not make fun of Palin for being a beauty queen and sports reporter out of college during these same years. Although, I do think Obama's experience shaped his political future a bit better ...

CBS News has a new '' out today, and they included some cross-tabs.

They are stating that the polling shows a 42-42 tie among registered voters.

However, when you go into the cross-tabs, here are some of the reasons the polling is suspect:

The pollsters say the political registration breakdown is something like:
31% Republican
35% Democratic
34% Independent

If you believe most state's voter registration offices, the breakdown is more like:
30% Republican
37% Democratic
30% Independent
3% Other party/No affiliation

No information is given on the age breakdown; no information is given on gender breakdown; no information is given on ethnic identity; no information is given on religious breakdown.

If the party registration is skewed, what is there to say the other information is not also skewed?

In any event, this was a national poll, but the Electoral College is a state by state determinant. And if you go to the CBS News electoral projection, they say the following states are 'undecided':

New Hampshire
Oregon
Nevada
New Mexico
Minnesota
Iowa
Wisconsin
Missouri
Indiana
Michigan
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Virginia
Florida

They are calling Montana and North Dakota as solid McLame(brain) (new poll by United Transportation Union of North Dakota shows
Obama 43/McCain 40; latest Rasmussen poll of Montana shows it tied at 47). It also shows North Carolina solid for McLame(brain) - most pollsters call it much too close to call right now.

A lot to not trust about the CBS poll and their political map.

The lies that keep pissing me off:

Obama has only been a Senator for 3 years.
Tim Kaine has only been Governor for 2 years. Governor Palin and he have served the SAME AMOUNT OF TIME.

Well here we go:
Palin assumed office December 4, 2006. (2 years)
Governor Tim Kaine assumed office JANUARY 14, 2006. (3 years)
Senator Obama assumed office January 4, 2005. (4 years)

These amounts of time are obviously not the same, and I have watched Bill Maher, and every other pundit has not only let it go repeatedly, but many have actually repeated the garbage.

Besides this, Virginia is a state of 7.5 million people, he served 4 years as the Lieutenant Governor, 2 years as the Mayor of a city of 200,000, and served on the City Council.
We all know Obama's biography. Both have a degree in Law from HARVARD (best law school in the country). Obama taught CONSTITUTIONAL LAW AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO (7th best law school in the country).

Anyone who challenges their knowledge of government is an idiot. Anyone who attempts to compare or equate their ample experience to "Hockey Mom Palin," should have their voter registration taken away. The Republicans removed enough black and Jewish voters, seems like we should get a chance.

All across the Internet, I'm beginning to see people making comments on community organizers, and a lot of them are discussing Jesus of Nazareth as one of the first.

As soon as some of them think that someone made a dissing comment about their 'lord and savior', they'll get mightily p***ed off. And when that happens, some 'unholy hell' can erupt against the person doing the dissing.

Oh, and discussing Moses and Aaron in terms of community organizers won't hurt. http://www.energybulletin.net/node/2470

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/natural_resources/article993257.ece

According to anwr.org, a group advocating oil drilling... ANWR has between 6-16 billion barrels of oil. They claim this would allow Americans 60 extra years of energy.
The US uses nearly 8 billion barrels a year, making this supply, at best, only 2 years. (21 million per day x 365) This is if you believe anwr.org, who obviously favor drilling and would be likely to report the values as higher than they actually are.

http://www.anwr.org/case.htm

Geologists working for the REPUBLICAN controlled government estimate the supply at only 10 billion barrels, which would only be 1.25 years.

It was fitting that -- it seemed -- none of the crowd seemed to think much of the speech, but they're more interested in voting AGAINST Obama than voting for anything.

Was I wrong for seeing some compassion and bipartisanship there? I realize that, if elected, none of it will come through, since he's given up most of his principles through this nominating process.

I got a question. I forgot, when we donated money (I am assuming we all did to Obama during the primary) did it ask us if we were putting that money twards the Primary or for the main election.

Here is why I ask. If I put in the max 2300 I believe I put that twards the primary. But if there is no stipulation, then he could move that money to the main election. Then donating another 2,300 would not really help.

I believe I had to stipulate that it was twards the primary. But can not remember.

Independent Voter said...

Kujo, if you donated the $2300 PRIOR to the end of the convention then it went toward the primary. Although he CAN roll it over it still went toward the primary campaign. So you are able to donate another $2300 for the general.

Heart condemns McCain-Palin use of 'Barracuda'

Posted: 12:01 AM ET
Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart.

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) — Blasting through the Republican convention hall is the 1977 hit "Barracuda" by rock band Heart.

It's a shout-out to Sarah Palin. When she played basketball in high school, the soon-to-be Republican vice presidential nominee earned the nickname "Sarah barracuda" for her fierce competitiveness.

Some of her opponents revived the "Sarah barracuda" nickname after she became mayor of her hometown, Wasilla, in 1996, defeating a three-term incumbent.

UPDATE: Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart said Thursday night that Universal Music Publishing and Sony BMG have sent a cease and desist notice to the McCain-Palin campaign over their use of 'Barracuda.'

"We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored," the group said in a statement that said they "condemn" the use of the song at the Republican convention.

My older sister, a Repug, is on disability and her husband is struggling. They have almost NO retirement savings. She recently asked me to BUY HER HOUSE because it is slipping away from them. I have 2 houses (one a rental) and no need for a 3rd. She wouldn't pay the rent anyway so I'd be stuck with their debts and no way to recover.

BREAKING: Court DENIES Motion to Seal Divorce Papers of Todd P. Business Partner

The Alaska Court system's docket page shows that today, the court DENIED the motion to make the case file confidential.

09/04/2008 Order Denying Motion Case Motion #3: Motion to Make Case File Confidential

The link Andrew Sullivan provided only worked once after I'd tried several times to access it, but this seems to indicate that whatever information (good, bad, or irrelevant) is contained in those divorce papers is going to be fair game for the press, if they haven't already accessed it.

Update: Several commenters claim this was previously diaried, but there are no prior posts regarding the court's DENIAL of the motion to seal. Let's let the public and the press make of these papers what they will; the important thing is, whatever is in there will be accessed.

Update 2: I've posted the entire docket below listing the documents on file with the court, for those with capability of searching court documents electronically.

Update 3: Thank you for your kind comments. Let's keep working for the kind of change Barack Obama represents, and watch with amusement at how this scandal stuff plays out.

Ok, I have to confess. I have been confused by the "Straight Talk Express" when all we hear is BS....

So I pulled the following from Websters:

Straight: free from curves, bends, angles, or irregularities

Talk: to convey information or communicate in any way

Express: designed for or adapted to its purpose

Nothing in there about telling the truth. Shooting that bull straight at the Gullible with the intent to convey their twisted messages as the truth so Lemmings will gobble it up.

Ok, seem to ba talking to myself again. LOL

Will check in later - got some things to do.

You may see me around more. Got banned from VAJoe.com. They couldn't handle the truth. There are a handful diehard Republicans over there. I kept the fight going for several weeks before getting tossed. ;o)

Sad to get thrown out of a Vet site for expressing your opinion, but the Republicans really don't believe in freedom of everyone to speak.

Emit, there is a board that I'm avoiding because there are about half-dozen republicans there who are completely set in there ways and more than a trifle obnoxious about it. There is no point to discussing with them, as it would just turn into arguement and no one's mind would be opened even a little.

I might go back there in December or so. And lurk and just PM my friends there in the meantime.

Finally, we have someone on the air calling a spade a spade.

Rachel Maddow literally stated that Palin and McCain flat-out LIED and that their continued use of those lies is known as lying!

The only thing that she didn't say is that THEY were liars. I really wish that she would have gone there and called THAT spade a spade, but she was close enough. It was implied.
