AJ - Goodnight - there was plenty of name calling toward Joshua and me in the eight posts you deleted. I copied each of the postings because I was going to talk to you at another time when your temper was not riled up. I understand when you get angry you say what's on your mind but I don't like being called vulgar names. I am an older man and not a young child. Whenever I have posted I have not disrespected you by calling you such names as the ones you used tonight. As I said in my earlier post - I enjoy chatting with you and reading your posts except when it comes to discussions on the Clintons and you go off on people as if they were personally attacking you. This is very offensive and I can name at least a dozen people and a hundred times you have done it. Enough is enough. I appreciate that you deleted most of them - but I would rather you think before you even post them at all. It is 4:45am here so I will call it a night and go to sleep. Hope you have a good night.

Okay, folks, Momma speaks:

Mike in GA: leave AJ alone. She is entitled to defend Hillary.

AJ: Just ignore Mike in GA without reading him, as most of us do Stop/Yak, and as I am starting to do with Mike in GA.

Joshua: Half the country has used postage paid reply envelopes to send stuff back to organizations that have annoyed them. Anthrax from mud. Will you listen to yourself?

And what's with your joy in a brutal physical punishment directed at iv? Kind of makes me wonder what your agenda is. We get freepers in here from time to time. I am thinking you're an LDS freeper, and what's more a latent SM LDS freeper.

The LDS used its resources to deny human rights to an entire class of people. Did they think there wouldn't be any pushback?

By the way, I am not sure a postage paid thing from an envelope works when attached to a package. That would be interesting to know.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Karen Anne - I respect your opinion, however, if you saw the 8 postings AJ did last night and the vulgarity she used toward Joshua and me in her defense of Hillary you would probably feel offended just as I do. She has a right to defend Hillary and Bill but she surely does not have the right to curse and use vulgar names towards the people she is posting with. I copied the 8 posts she deleted last night and have thought about sending them to Matt and Oreo. Of course if they look at thier logs they will see them and also see that she was way out of bounds. I also thought about posting them back online for people to read but then that would just stir the pot. If the others feel I overstepped that is fine - I will refrain from posting again - but in the end it is up to the people blogging on this site to police thier own. If you wish to turn a blind eye - that is also your right. Hope you have a good day.

It seems that former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele's campaign to be named Chairman of the GOP is running into a bit of a snag:

Personally, I don't like the idiot. I think his political philosophy is more aligned with Clarence Thomas and Alan Keyes than a 'middle of the road' Republican. And I think he helped form the Republican Leadership Council just to advance his own political agenda than for any other reason.

In any event, I'm not unsatisfied to see the GOP have a lot of infighting. The more they do that, the less they focus on the 2010 and 2012 elections.

There are specific very intolerant posters on this board. Whenever they encounter an opinion with which they disagree, they launch into personal attack of the poster. They attack the poster with ad hominems like: sexist, homophobic, freeper (whatever that means. I am sure the poster means it as an insult), etc. It doesn’t matter if the poster to whom the insults are aimed never posted anything personal about any other poster. This is the mark of liberals: very intolerant. They accuse the right of intolerance when they are much worse themselves. They do their best to squelch any speech with which they disagree. One particular poster here is the guiltiest. But I will name no names.

Joshua said...

While I am on a roll, I will say one more thing. On the internet your word is your bond. I can only assess your essence by the words you use. I can assess your integrity by your posts. A certain poster here posts very insulting vituperative comments aimed at specific posters. Then after the posts have been read, she will go back and delete them and then pretend that she had not made those posts. It shows me her level of dishonesty. I am amazed that Matt and Oreo are so derelict in sanitizing this board. Those posts from a certain poster last night were particularly virulent. I am sure that any board administrator worth anything can retrieve those posts and do something about the poster.

Aunt Jean,

For some time, the right-wing nuts have been trying to find some way to allege that President-elect Obama is not qualified for President. Since they couldn't convince the voters that he was:
- too young
- too inexperienced
- too radical
- not Christian enough (if he was not, in fact, Muslim)
- had a nut-job of a minister
- 'palled around with radicals'
- etc.
- etc.

they have been trying to attack him on his citizenship.

They claimed he was born in Kenya, so he couldn't be a 'natural born' citizen as required in the Constitution.

This was shown to be a fallacious claim when PE Obama's birth certificate was produced.

Then the right-wing nuts claimed that the birth certificate was falsified - remember when Senator Obama went to Hawai'i in August? The right-wing nuts claimed he went there to make changes in the records in the state of Hawai'i.

Then they tried to claim that, as a child, he renounced his American citizenship and became an Indonesian citizen. When it was pointed out that a minor cannot do that, it didn't make any difference, but eventually the right-wing nuts dropped that line of attack.

The latest case that has been brought is a bit different.

A right-wing nut named Leo C. Donofrio claims that to be a 'natural born citizen,' both parents must be American citizens. That is incorrect. There only needs to be one parent who is a citizen for a child to be an American citizen. Or the child has to be born on American soil, no matter the citizenship of the parents.

Donofrio claims that PE Obama's father was not an American citizen, but rather he had dual citizenship - Kenyan and British. Here is where he is going beyond nut-land - Kenya didn't gain independence until December 12, 1963, or more than two years AFTER PE Obama was born. Therefore, since Kenya was not yet a nation, there could not have been Kenyan citizenship.

Back to the suit - Donofrio claims that since PE Obama's father was not a US citizen, he could have claimed dual citizenship until his age of majority, and therefore, is not a 'natural-born' citizen, but a 'naturalized citizen' at the time he chose American citizenship vs some other nation's citizenship, or let his claims to other citizenship lapse, thus is not eligible for the office of President.

Donofrio got his case thrown out of the New Jersey courts, so he took it up with the US Supreme Court, first going to Justice Souter, who didn't accept it, then going to Justice Thomas. When that rat-turd got it, he scheduled it for distribution to the other SC judges for a decision on whether the USSC would accept the case or not. The Court discussed the case on Friday. It takes the vote of four justices for the court to accept a case, thus for arguments to be held before the full court. The court met yesterday to decide which, if any, of the pending cases to accept, announced two cases would be accepted, but didn't give any indication of whether or not it would accept the Donofrio case. An announcement on the case is now expected on Monday.

Google 'Leo Donofrio' for more information.

Aunt Jean and Beryl,

Re: Lumigan

This is not a new drug, but one that has been used for several years to control glaucoma.

For your information, glaucoma is one of leading causes, if not THE leading cause, of blindness in the United States.

For years, ophthalmologists have known that one of the side effects of Lumigan was to increase the size and density of eyelashes, and told their patients, if they used it in one eye only, that they would have lop-sided eyelashes.

Since Lumigan is an existing drug, and has been on the market for several years, it is NOT a new drug. It is a new use of the drug that has been given FDA approval.

I'm not saying whether I agree with this or not, but I don't think that going to the FDA to get approval to use an existing drug for a new purpose is criminal (not entirely ethical maybe), but NOT criminal.

And comparing a new use for an existing drug with a known side effect that some may find beneficial (even if it's only cosmetic) to the development of a new means of power for automobiles is beyond ludicrous, it is verging (IMO) on wing-nuttery.

I would have problems with the use of Lumigan for the purpose of increasing eye lash size because Lumigan decreases the Intra-Ocular Pressure (IOL). If IOL is too low, then other problems develop. If this drug is allowed to be sold over the cosmetics counter, I can see a lot of ophthalmologists needing more help in their offices from the complications of lowered IOL in certain patients.

on your 10:10 pm post. I don't believe that a child born in the US should be a us citizen if both parents are not US citizens. You have a lot of mexicans sneaking over here just to have their baby.

So would it be right for them to be a US citizens when they shouldn't even be here to begin with.

Now with the case of Obama that is different his father was over here legally and his mother was a US citizen so it's different. Obama is a US citizen and should be considered one because he is one. AJ

Mike in Maryland said...

Aunt Jean,

Since current US law states that a person born on US soil is a US citizen, then the law would have to be changed.

US soil means within the 50 states, DC, any US overseas possession (Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, etc.), or in a US Embassy or it's grounds. (I'm not sure about Guantanamo, or if born on a ship that first docks in the US or any US posession.)

Some are against the current law because of the reason you state, some are not against the current law. One thing the current law does give is the opportunity of dual citizenship to certain people until the age of majority (18, I believe), when they must declare which citizenship they accept and/or which they renounce. If they renounce the non-US citizenship, then most would consider them 'natural-born' American citizens (although people like Donofrio wouldn't).

Mike

Aunt Jean said...

Mike In Maryland

I know that laws are good to have it's just some of them isn't right. But I guess until they are changed we have to live with them.

I believe that they sneak over here so their child and them will have a better life and that is sad. It still doesn't make it right. AJ

FRom what I can tell from the Supreme Court website, the petition in front of the U.S. Supreme Court is merely for a stay until he can file a petition for writ of certiorari (a formal request for them to take the case).

Thus, what was being decided on Friday was not whether or not to take the case, but whether to preserve the status quo -- that is interfere in the election process -- until a decision can be made on taking the case. Since no order was issued on Friday, it was probably declined. The full list of declines is normally issued on Monday and will be available under "Orders" as the "Order List" on the Supreme Court Website.

The one thing Donofrio has going for him is that his claim actually has a factually accurate component -- because his father was not an American, Obama was born with dual citizenship. Problem is that nothing in the Constitution says that a person with dual citizenship is not a natural born citizen.

Joshua said...

How about a Mexican woman in labor that crosses the border for the sole purpose of delivering the child in USA? That child is a natural born citizen regardless that NEITHER of his parents was legally permitted in the US, let alone citizen.

Joshua said...

The bar for Obama kept being raised throughout the election cycle, just like other people of color before him. Once he meets a standard, he finds that another hurdle has been erected. Even after winning an Electoral College landslide, even after the unanimous acclaim by the citizens, witness how willingly they supported his candidacy with their wallet; still that is not good enough. He now has to prove that he even qualifies. Here’s news for you: to some segment of the population he will never qualify. Not while his blood line is less than 100% white.

Joshua said...

That Obama even qualifies to run for president is exactly the meaning of this famous line from Hillary: “I have met the threshold for commander-in-chief; certainly McCain has met the threshold for Commander-in-chief. For Obama, you have to ask him.”

Obviously it was like a dog-whistle. Only the astute understood what she meant. For those in denial, the meaning has to be explained. Clearly, that was a very racist statement from Hillary.

Of course, that was the time frame I was over on a Republican biased board where they banned me for requesting that they back up their posts with facts and references. ;o) I did the same thing here when folks stated items that were either lies or distortions of the truths and the Dems on this board always provided references. This election I saw a major difference between the way people affiliated with a "Party" acted. Being an Independent, that was interesting to see. I normally never responded much to trolls, but did on occasion. Not to feed them, but to clean up something that was stated that wasn't true.

So, I will dispute one of J's claims.
"Even after winning an Electoral College landslide".

Electoral College isn't until 12/15. So we don't know what the final EC vote is, we can only assume based on what it should be based on the State by State results.

On a more positive note. Man it's great that we will have a smart President again. Watching Meet the Press. With all the problems in the world, every time I listen to Obama I am encouraged about the future.

Obama is a bigger man than I. I have not forgotten the racial taunts that Hillary Clinton /Bill Clinton/Bob Johnson(former owner of the black magazine, I forget its name) / Ferraro hurled at Obama. I will never forgive them.

McCain did not use any line of attack against Obama that Hillary did not first introduce in the Primaries.

Joshua said...

If it was not a racist statement from Hillary: “I have met the criteria for Commander-in-chief,” what else did she mean? What does she have in common with John McCain besides race? They have different genders, different political party affiliations. There politics are different: one is pro-Choice the other is anti-abortion. Exactly what criteria was she describing? One has voted practically 100% liberal except when she voted for the Iraq war, the other is 100% unadulterated right-winger.

Hillary’s true colors came out under stress and it wasn’t pretty. I will never forget how desperately she clung to the chance of attaining power even including the potential murder of her opponent as a reason to hang on.

Hillary is forever done in my book.

Everyone remember that there are many types of trolls.

There are the apparent trolls, who post nothing but garbage with the intent to upset the site's posters and create anger and disruption. This type of troll is very easy to recognize.

There are the 'concern' trolls, who write as if they support the viewpoint of the site and/or posters, but they are always 'concerned' about some subject or another. They are still trolls, as they are NOT supporting the viewpoint of the site and/or posters. Rather, their intent is to upset the site's posters and create anger and disruption. This type of troll is not so easy to recognize.

I think most here can deduce who I think is a 'concern' troll, and the intent of that 'concern' troll. Hint - the 'concern' troll makes a habit of posting several messages in a short period, then going a day or two before posting several more messages in a short period.

Think about this:
1. Cows
2. The Constitution
3. The Ten Commandments

COWS
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

THE CONSTITUTION
They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq .... why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a l ot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore.

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS
The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this -- you cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians ... it creates a hostile work environment.

As long as I'm working, I can help others out. I'm adopting a senior this year, an 85 year old man. It was cool buying Christmas stuff for him. It is about the same age as my father would have been if he hadn't died early (second-hand smoke cancer).

Everyone in my family still has their jobs too. The only thing is that people from Detroit and other places are moving here (Colorado). The crime is going up in Boulder and other previously low-crime areas.

Like Obama said today, it will get worse before it gets better. We all need to stay prayerful and safe.

How is it going with you and everyone else?

like you and your family mine is doing well also all still have their jobs. I just pray that it stays that way.

Hopefully things will go well with you and you can stay at your job where you can retired and go back to teaching.

Other than that everythings about the same.

As far as helping someone I'm helping a couple of kids. I get a kick out of buying for them. AJ

beryl and aj-Thank God I still have my job also. My department has kept up it's numbers, but we're the only one. They're going to clean house after the holidays because of who works when they "feel" like it. I can't imagine. They're going to find out how bad they need a job the hard way. Yes, the economy's getting worse, but we'll still be able to help a local mission and a few kids. It doesn't have to be just money or toys. It's also clothing and food. We just need to continue to work together in every state.

P.S. I just happened to notice this while I was checking the weather one more time-

I'm not going to say it should be easy because you'd have a fight taking chocolate away from me.

The wing-nut who attempted to impersonate Aunt Jean earlier tonight also attempted to impersonate Karen Anne on November 19. Checking their Blogger profile, the changing profile was created in November, 2008, well after Aunt Jean and Karen Anne were posting here at DemConWatch.

If anyone has a question about the veracity of a post or the purported poster, or to see if a poster is impersonating someone else, here is how you can do some checking on that poster's ID:

Go to 'View' and click 'Page Source'. In the new window, click 'Edit', then 'Find'. In the search box, enter some of the message in question (for instance, I entered "skreued" tonight). When you find the specific post in question, check the blogger ID you'll find a couple of lines above. Then copy a few characters from the Blogger ID (I copy at least 4, usually 6-8 numbers), enter that into the 'Find' field and click 'Next'.

Please move over to the new site where we'll post Open Threads on a regular basis and you can moderate the comments yourself.

Thanks everybody!

Folks (esp. iv, where are you),

We open thread fans are at iv's open thread blog. The new DCW is great, their open thread, not so much.

I couldn't even find the open thread yesterday and the site doesn't load for me today.

It was a pretty site though (when it did load).

Beryl,

Here's where we open threaders are:
http://rnrdemcon.blogspot.com/

This is a site of Indie's, that he set up some time ago, but neither he nor ap have shown up, so we're worried we've lost touch.

p.s. the new dcw site is working, but they had some problem (may still have) with images loading, maybe that's why you were having problems. It's a nice site, just not open threadwise.
