Oh, and I wanted to post this youtube video again.

John McCain is not the man I once thought he was. At least I realize this now.

Oh, I volunteer phone banked for a very short period of time today.... For some reason they had me calling rednecknowheresville.... it was terrible. I called in support of Senator Obama and Governor Warner. A dude responded, "that muslim!?!?!?!"

"He's not muslim sir."

"Oh, he's not?!?!"

"No, he's a Christian sir."

"Oh, well he IS a f*in' piece of s***!!!"

"I'm sorry you feel that way, I have nice night sir."

LOL, no offense intended! I have several friends, and have had several coworkers from the middle of no where, and many of them are wonderful people. Unfortunately, there is also a large collection of close minded ignorant people too. I've never lived in a small town, so I don't know why that is. Maybe you can explain that to me. ;)

Aunt Judy,
I love that video for that reason. It doesn't hold anything back. I literally got choked up the first time I saw it.

Dave,
That is a daunting summer schedule. I only have 14 credit hours left, so I'm bored out of my mind this summer. I'm doing some research, some volunteer work, and fixing a few things around the house... but it just isn't enough. I had two classes, but I already finished them.

Good luck with that class load, and if you have too many scholarships... pass a few this way. ;)

On the plus side, my adviser approved me to teach two labs next semester! WOOHOO!! I got to teach two labs for one week last semester because one of the grad students had a death in the family. It was terrible for her, but I loved teaching the second lab. When I only teach the class once, I don't get to learn from my mistakes as well and improve my teaching skills. The second lab I taught was 10 times more smooth than the first one. Practice makes perfect... well it makes better at least.

Oh, it also means twice the money, which is always good too. :)

One other undergrad is also approved to do a grad student job and teach labs too. She has a 4.0, won every single Chemistry award possible, and guess what her chosen profession is?
Teaching high school! It is actually really cool that such a smart and accomplished person wants to and is willing to do this. Lots of people are trying to convince her to go to graduate school and teach college instead, but she won't hear it. She wants to mold young minds. I find that really admirable.

apissedant said...

Dave,
HAHA!! Yes, I had to hold back so much from responding. The UT thing, and the bastardization of polls, and the use of public opinion polls to decide policy when it suits one's own interest was a bit annoying. Now I guess I technically responded, but it is to you and not them, so maybe that makes it ok.

Independent Voter said...

I will see what I can do on sending the scholarships your way p'd ant. ;)

Congrats on being approved for teaching the two lab sections. And yes, practice makes better.

As far as the student that wants to teach high school students....that is VERY admirable. Kudos to her for not following the "traditional" path and doing what will bring HER desires to fruition. Unlike the selfish dolts on this thread who insinuate that teaching is not an honorable profession.

AP,

Make that same call to most phones in Martinsville, Indiana, and you probably would get the same type of response. In fact, large swaths of southern Indiana would give that same type of response. If you didn't check the phone number, you might think you were calling certain parts of Alabama or Mississippi.

Fortunately, there are areas in Indiana where there are progressives, and also some almost conservatives who actually think, and would find the attitude displayed by the respondent to your call to be evilly repugnant.

Last week I downloaded Firefox v3.0 and started to explore it.

Once you get past the idiosyncrasies of what Mozilla calls 'the Awesome Bar', it a good browser.

One thing I really like:
When a post at DCW (and other sites) has a link, it displays the entire link, even it it goes two, three or more lines. When you highlight and copy it, it copies the entire link without hard breaks, so you don't have to copy/paste, then return for more copy/paste.

It seems quite a bit faster than Firefox v2.0, and certainly faster than Microsuck's IE.

Mozilla claims it has fixed the memory-leak problem that plagued v2.0 which was a problem for many.

Built-in spell checker, and an extensive library of add-ons makes it my browser of choice.

Anyone else try it yet, and your experience with it? If anyone wants info on changing the way the 'Awesome Bar' works, I'll post a link.

Mike,
I did get one very nice caller as well, and I talked about Mark Warner and John Warner. I realized I was calling a Republican area, so I didn't press on Barack Obama. I basically explained that John Warner may be a Republican, but I myself, and many other Democrats actually like and support him. He is a common sense, intelligent, and caring Republican. We have the same goals, but we often disagree on how to achieve those goals.
With his retirement, Mark Warner seems like a great replacement. He enjoyed nearly 80% approval ratings when he left office. He took a 6 billion dollar debt and created a surplus. He achieved bipartisan agreements and received support from Republicans and Democrats alike.
I don't know if she'll actually vote for him, but just the fact that she was open to listening and taking on new information was a nice change of pace.

I have said before on this post that Republican does not mean evil, and Democrat does not mean wonderful. I support the candidate who I believe to be intelligent, honorable, and caring. It just so happens that I typically find that person to be the Democrat. I watched John Warner on CSPAN as a teenager and a twenty something young adult, and I was always impressed.

You know, realizing what I just said, it is amazing I still got any action in the bedroom. What kind of teenager watches CSPAN!??!!

Dave,
She will get to accomplish her goals and enjoy her life, it just so happens that her goals and happiness are not based exclusively on how much money is in her bank account or what type of car she is driving.

I decided we need to be like the Republicans and rename their programs to fit what we like. My proposed name is "fair trade" to replace "free trade." The idea of fair trade is to equal the playing field. The European Union, Canada, the United Kingdom, and a few other nations have all import taxes removed. Countries like Mexico and China either keep them or have new ones imposed. Fair trade revolves around a few basic principles: 1)Environmental protection- Industries must operate comparably clean plants in order to qualify. They must at the very least meet US standards.
2)Worker Safety- The workers must be as protected as American workers. There must be something comparable to workers compensation for on the job injuries, and the ability to sue the company (or otherwise gain restitution) if they are proven to be operating negligently.
3)Child labor laws- Too obvious to describe.
4)Pay- Pay must be comparable. It does not have to be comparable in dollar amounts, but it must be comparable in what those dollars buy. Health care, food, shelter, education, and the like must all be affordable with a reasonable work week.

The idea that we are going to sell our thousand dollar computers to Colombian workers making 25 cents an hour is laughable. It has proven very misguided, and ineffective. My home state of Michigan and all those surround it are ghost towns. From my graduating class of 225 students, I know of 5 of us living in Virginia now. There are 48 states that others may have moved to. The great exodus is not good for Michigan or any other state in this country.

I finally read this post of yours where you stated that you tutor: Nursing students, business majors, medical students, chemistry majors, and biochemistry majors have all asked me for help and tutoring .

Outrageous. Impossible. You seen not to know the difference between premed students and medical students. Premed students are undergraduates aspiring to get to a medical school. Medical students are graduate students who already have an undergraduate degree. Organic Chemistry is not taught in medical schools except as a one week refresher of what you should have learned as an undergraduate.

Unless things are different now, there was no such thing as biochemistry major. You can study Biochem as a grad student, but it is not called a major. Major is lingo only for undergrad. Wow. For undergrads, biochem is only a course within the Chemistry department, not a combination of Biology and Chemistry.

There is no way that nursing students take Organic Chemistry. They may get a Cliff not version. Apissedant, Organic Chemistry is at least second year chemistry and requires inorganic chemistry as a prerequisite. Nursing students spend 2 years altogether earning the RN certificate (unless the student is pursuing a BS, RN which is a 4 year degree with limited exposure to the hard-core sciences).

Do you even know what Organic Chemistry is? Give me examples of C6H12O6 compounds. What is the difference between an alkane and an alkene and an alkyne. I took Organic Chemistry over 30 years ago and I still remember this.

Sad for you to pretend to be what you are not. Whom do you intend to impress?

apissedant said...

mike,
Keep reading. I mentioned that I teach a DIFFERENT CLASS ALTOGETHER NOW. I was ASSISTING in Organic Chemistry. I now TEACH Chemistry 101 and 102. This is general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry for nursing students. I did not include this in the "tutoring Organic Chemistry portion," just the tutoring portion. I am not going to get involved in irrelevant insults and arguments over non-issues. I assure you all I have told you is true, and that I honestly believe every policy and governmental idea I have proposed. I have in no way lied, or intentionally twisted anything to meet my needs, or to make myself appear more qualified or more intelligent than I actually am.

If I wanted to do this, it seems like a lowly student would be a poor choice, don't you think?

Independent Voter said...

Agreed, unfortunately Republicans are not in favor of fair trade, they are only interested in free trade that lines their buddies pockets.

apissedant said...

Mike,
As to the medical student part, that was obviously a mistake in typing. I had previously referred to them as premed students in every other post. This is what I quite obviously meant, but I also obviously mispoke. I have never tutored a medical student you are correct. Organic Chemistry is quite obviously a 200 or 300 level class (depending on University) that med students take in undergraduate coursework. I have obviously had no reason for interaction with medical students.

apissedant said...

Mike,
Attempting to not get negative, it takes restraint, so give me a second.....

Inorganic Chemistry is a senior level class that is most definitely not a requirement for Organic Chemistry. General Chemistry is a prerequisite for Organic Chemistry, which I fulfilled with my AP score from 2000. I will not answer silly questions about alkynes, alkanes, and alkenes, because it is such a simple question that general education students could answer it, and there are wikipedia articles explaining all in detail. Also, it is just simple, again, if I wanted to lie myself up, student would be a dumb choice. You think you would ask a question about Markovnikov's rule, or something that actually had a little more to do with O-chem.

Apissedant,

Sorry, I don’t buy a mistype. No one in academics would ever confuse Premed with medical student. You have done this several times. I seem to recall that that fact stuck in my craw before, but I chose not to challenge you on it. A premed cannot be confused for a medical student except by someone who does not know what he is talking about. You, as an undergrad instructor, would never meet a medical student. You are quite simply a liar.

Joshua said...

Apissedant,

Yes, the difference between them is trivial, but I bet that you cannot answer it inspite of being able to Google it. Go ahead and google it, then answer the question.

apissedant said...

Mike,
Believe what you will... with the exception of that, my only reference (to my knowledge) of medical students was talking of several premed students who have already been accepted to medical school. I said myself that I have no interactions with medical students, so what you're attempting to debate I am not sure. Did you google Markovnikov's rule yet oh great doctor?

Alkyne
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alkynes are hydrocarbons that have at least one triple bond between two carbon atoms, with the formula CnH2n-2.

(Yes I did not answer the other two. In fact, I didn't even answer this one, I nearly copied and pasted to show what a trivial and silly question it was. This is why when I asked Stop a question (who claims to be a nuclear engineer) about nuclear power (energy required for a fast neutron to cause fission in Uranium-235 atom upon collision), I first attempted to google the answer, and when I was unable to find it, I then asked the question. He of course did not actually answer the question.)

Really? That's your test? I didn't have to type anything, just literally copy and paste? What does that prove? I could be an 8 year old that knows how to type based on that. Do you still claim to not insult me or be negative? Seriously, done with this conversation. I have refrained from insulting you out of respect to this site and the people posting on it as well as reading it. I will now ignore you out of disrespect to you.

Hey Mike,

You claim to be a physician?

- What is an endothelial keratoplasty (EK)?

- When is an EK recommended?

- What are two of the most common reasons for an EK?

- How long does it take to recover from an EK?

- Who developed the first form of EK, and when? (Hint - the EK was not developed in the US.)
Ancillary question 1 - where does that person practice medicine?
Ancillary question 2 - who are some of the leading practitioners of EK in the US, and where do they practice - specific doctors only, please. (Hint - there are several, so I'll take any four or five of the ten or so most noted.)

Let's see your credentials by a response to those questions. Unless you are a doctor and can quickly reference a med text book, you'll be scratching your head about some of those questions. And if you are a doctor, but you are NOT up to date, you'll get the wrong answer from the med text books.

I don't think most Americans would allow you to use the word "marriage" if two males or females are united.

You call it civil union. But don't ever call it "marriage" which is solely reserved for a man and a woman, who can together in love procreate and perpetuate the human race, IMO.

Partners in civil union may be given whatever rights the States decide to provide them with. Fed should not get involved.

I have a question to you and others: In 2008, will you call yourself openly Gay/Lesbian w/o any reservation, assume there is no scorn from the Society whatsoever?

My sense is many of you don't feel comfortable to use that term yourself. If others use, then you call them homophobes etc. There seems to be an inner demon in many of you who tells you that there is something inappropriate in your behavior/personality. Am I wrong, or what?

also, nursing is a four year degree (for an RN), and yes, nursing students can and do take a full year of organic chemistry.

Thanks for your response and considerations.

The problem I have with certain types of liberals is that they don’t understand that there are consequences to their actions and lifestyle choices. They totally lack the personal responsibility gene. For example, I have previously discussed with you about supply and demand. You talked about how there is only a handful of doctors in the country who understand your particular medical condition. That you are lucky to live in Maryland where there are two doctors who do. Ophthalmologists are legion in Maryland, but only 2 of them can treat you. Yet you expect a non-ophthalmologist to know everything that is current about your eye condition. That is the degree of unrealistic expectations many Americans have.

Take the case of your boyfriend. Why did you try to obscure the diagnosis and state non-small cell carcinoma? Yes, you are technically correct, but I suspect that it was specifically squamous cell ca. Everybody would probably immediately recognize that this is a cancer caused by lifestyle choices – hence your attempt to obscure the fact.

Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do. This will be my final response to stop, because he has asked a couple valid questions and has made a couple of very STUPID, HOMOPHOBIC statements to Mike in Maryland and against gays in general. And when MY family, as do most people, is attacked, I WILL fight to the death to defend it.

"I don't think most Americans would allow you to use the word "marriage" if two males or females are united.

You call it civil union. But don't ever call it "marriage" which is solely reserved for a man and a woman, who can together in love procreate and perpetuate the human race, IMO.

Partners in civil union may be given whatever rights the States decide to provide them with. Fed should not get involved."

Oh so stupid one, that is why we have the courts, to protect the minority from the majority. If the courts were not used for this reason we would still have JANE clinics. Without them we would very possibly still have segregated schools.

Most of us don't care what it is called, Marriage or Civil Union, as long as ALL the EXACT SAME rights are extended to OUR families as our heterosexual counterparts on EVERY LEVEL of government.

The federal government should NOT be involved in marriage between heterosexual couples (ie tax breaks) either unless they are going to extend those same tax breaks to EVERY TAX PAYER in the nation, or not to anyone. Bill and I are tired of subsidizing with OUR tax dollars for people like you, who should be taken out of the gene pool, to have kids.

"I have a question to you and others: In 2008, will you call yourself openly Gay/Lesbian w/o any reservation, assume there is no scorn from the Society whatsoever?

My sense is many of you don't feel comfortable to use that term yourself. If others use, then you call them homophobes etc. There seems to be an inner demon in many of you who tells you that there is something inappropriate in your behavior/personality. Am I wrong, or what?"

To answer your question, I will take the 'or what' answer. You are a PATHETIC DOLT! I have been OPENLY GAY since 1992 and have been very vocal and proud. Much of that is because you cannot tell by just physically looking at me unless I'm with my partner which we are usually holding hands, no matter where we are.

Sorry to burst your bubble dolt, but I have NO inner demons. You seem to be the one with the inner demons. And your claim to have never to have come in contact with any gays in Dallas is likely to be VERY UNTRUE. You just didn't know of the ones that you have come in contact with. Dallas has a HUGE gay community, with gay bars and everything.

Many gays are not out in 2008 because of the ridicule they KNOW they will endure because of moronic, homophobic, pathetic dolts such as yourself who show hostility to those who are not "like" you.

Ok, I'm done responding to this guy - he is a serious whole ass. He's not just an asshole, he's the whole thing.

PUMA actually stands for:

Party Unity My A$$

A bunch of Hillary supporters went over there when Obama clinched the nomination. They are raising money to run ads against the 'democratic party'.

They are a bunch of VERY angry people that want revenge on the party and the DNC and the RBC (rules and bylaw committee).

At this point I don't think anyone could do anything to appease them.

They truly are a bunch of NUTS!

Also another pro-Hillary website www.Hillaryis44.com has gone crazy. They are another group that is angry and out to bash Obama.

I think Hillary is going to need to reach out to those websites/groups and try to get the anger level down or tell them that she rejects and denounces them :)

jean,

Beryl was referring to the PUMA people who say they will no vote for Obama under any circumstance. This person that was on MSNBC said she wouldn't even vote for Obama if Clinton was on the ticket. Beryl was saying that they are undermining themselves if they vote for a man who refers to women as "B's and C's" and makes jokes about wife beating.

Independent Voter, try to ignore the "Homphobics". They are battling have their own internal issues. I am absolutely convinced that people who are the hardest on homosexuals have the same desires. Like the line in Hamlet, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

I am a born-again Christian heterosexual and my beliefs coincide with those of Obama (as I've read them). It chaps my butt when people have problems with one behavior they think is morally or biblically wrong but wink at others. So you consider homosexuality a sin. What about adultery, fornication, coveting, lying, and PRIDE (the latter is listed in the Bible as an abomination)? Who has not done at least one of these? If you deny having done one of the above, you've just LIED.

We all are doing or have done something that someone considers a sin. God will sort it all out in the end because it is HIS job, and no one else's. Our job is to love in word and deed and treat people as you'd want to be treated.

Finally, sexual preference is none of anyone else's business. Those who want to be "out" should come "out". Others should stay "in". Regardless, everyone should have the same HUMAN rights.

OK, I'm done preaching for today.

Jean, I understand about the semantics of the words always and never, all, etc. But I think what Beryl was getting at is that Obama shouldn't spend a lot of resources on trying to win these people over. Not necessarily "never".

I thought about it similar to some of the comments throughout the primary that were blown out of proportion, kind of like bitter-gate, etc. Meaning we shouldn't be looking too deep into parsing every word (unless of course we are talking about the opposition...LOL)

Leah Texas4Obama said...

I do not believe in stereo-typing but this is kinda how it is out there right now...

I think that some of the Hillary supporters can be put into two different groups:

The first group are the folks that are disappointed but can STILL think rationally. They are the ones that truly love Hillary and wanted her to win because of how she stands on the issues or because of her gender or both. These folks are the ones that realize that Obama's platform is very close to Obama's and they know that McCain is the complete opposite and would be BAD for America. They will either vote Obama or stay home on election day.

The second group are the irrational fanatics. Like Harriet Christian. These folks are VERY angry and nothing will appease them other than Hillary being the nominee. Many of the pro-Hillary anti-Obama groups online are truly hoping that Obama will lose and that Hillary will run and win in 2012. Even on Hillary's own website - some of the PUMA members - have been posting to Hillary that they will NEVER vote for Obama and that they are backing McCain this year and that they are waiting for her in 2012.

I think the second group of Hillary supporters is not that big and it will dwindle out over time.

jean,
I feel you, but I don't know if you actually went to PUMA's website. They are still spreading terribly hate filled statements and lies, and promising to undermine the party and our country. We as Democrats all know what is like to be screwed out of an election. All of us remember 2000 and I'm willing to bet most if not all of us were upset about that fiasco. We still went to our jobs, we still did what was right, we at no point worked against our own country and our own interests out of spite. That is what these people are advocating. That is wholly inappropriate.

Dave and Leah,
Homosexuality effects no one but the two involved in it.
Murder, theft, vandalism, and many other things are considered morally reprehensible and are subject to legal penalties for doing these things. The reason for this is not just that most consider them morally wrong, but because other people are negatively effected by the act. These acts take advantage of someone else, and for that reason, we are able to project society's morality on others.

Many consider homosexuality morally wrong, but since it does not effect them, so what. Same with masturbation, promiscuity, smoking, eating pork, or a million other silly things that people for one reason or another decided were immoral. We should not impose our morality on any person unless there is a severe negative effect on others due to that person's actions. Being grossed out or feeling icky is not a severe negative effect.

I, and all gays and lesbians that I know, did not make a conscious decision to be homosexual. We all came to the realization of what our sexual identity is, some at a younger age than others. Saying "sexual preference" implies it was a conscience decision and a choice.

Other than that, on behalf of the gays and lesbians of the world, I say "Thank You!" for the kindness and thoughtfulness of your opinion.

Three voted 'Nay':

All three have large leads in the polls against the Democratic Party challenger.

Ten voted 'Yea'
Stevens (AK)
Roberts (KS)
Collins (ME)
Coleman (MN)
Wicker (MS)
Sununu (NH)
Dole (NC)
Inhofe (OK)
Smith (OR)
Cornyn (TX)

Roberts is not in a tight race, and Cornyn's race doesn't appear to be that close right now (but I think will get tighter). There are a lot of military bases and veterans in their states, however.

All the other Republicans are in relatively tight to VERY tight races right now.

stopOBAMAnow said...

"These folks are the ones that realize that Obama's platform is very close to Obama's"

I believe you meant "Obama's platform is very close to Hillary's"!

If it is, then I disagree, because

1. Saving SS Fund by lifting the income cap is NOT Hillary's.

2. She knows what it takes to bring Universal Health Care - only when ALL are included in the pool to bring down the risk, as a consequence of it to bring down the cost. Obama does NOT understand this very basic mechanics of managing the risk and cost. By allowing healthcare as "voluntary", HE is going to sit in the back pockets of Insurance Co and Hospitals.

3. He thinks Big Govt is the solution. She does NOT think that way. She wants to bring "small efficient transparent Govt" similar to the one of Bill Clinton. For her fiscal sanity and responsibility is the hallmark of governing. Bill and Hillary follow "Triangulation Philosophy" in policies: don't go to the Far Left, nor to the Far Right - a moderate centrist approach, because that's where most of the American voters are. These voters hire a CEO cum Commander-In-Chief to run the Country.

Saying that Obama and Hillary are one and the same is just ignoring the fundamental philosophy of their public policies and orientations.

Obama is Far Left and Hillary is a Centrist, as I have been writing for a long time.

He can move to the Center, and get elected as in 1992 and 1996. Or he can remain in the Far Left and get rejected as in 1980, 1984, 1988, 2004!

You make the choice.

The comments on being gay is, I don't know how to describe it.

I grew up with a bestfriend whose parents were lesbians and they adopted. Yes I will say that was 30years ago.
One of my best friends, who was gay, when I got married got frustrated and said to give my credit card to him so he could plan it correctly. Lot's of born agains on Husband's side and mine and it worked out wonderfully.
There is a chance they knew that inappropriate behavior on the family part would not be tolerated.
Everyone had a great time.

My husband has been in the entertainment business for over 30 years and yes we know a lot of people that are gay.So.
Great partys:)

I am just amazed at such ignorance and the homophobics on this site.
Why in the hell do they care?
The comment of not knowing a gay person in 59 years.
What planet are they on?
These people do not need to be recognized as living beings.
Why in the heck are they on this site.

Sounds like a facetious argument to make it appear that only gay and lesbian marriages are the only ones that cannot produce progeny.

I respect HRC for not worrying about getting reimbursed for the money SHE lent to the campaign. That was a very good move.

Something just occurred to me. HRC debt to her vendors would be paid off if every one of her 18 million supporters donates $1 to her campaign. They should do this because they encouraged and even pushed her to go into debt in the first place.

SurveyUSA (6/21-23/08) (and coincidentally Pollster.com poll of polls result):
McSame - 47%
Senator Obama - 48%

Pollster.com poll of polls for North Carolina (a state the Shrub won by 13% in 2000, and more than 12% in 2004):
McSame - 44.6
Senator Obama - 41.4

As I've said before, the only poll that matters is when the ballots are cast in November, and it's the 51 distinct and separate polls that matter. But if McSame has to defend states where Shrub didn't even have to make a campaign appearance to win, he's in TROUBLE.

"Carter's behavior once out of the WH demonstrated that he cares more about the people"

Very interesting, and very telling.

Yes, his "behavior once out of the WH" was exemplary. But Jewish people will disagree even with that Statement because of his Book "Apartheid in the Occupied Land".

The key point here is what did he do when he was "in the WH"?

Most Americans felt he was a disaster!

Now, BHO wants to emulate Carter.
Hence, his Carter II, IMO.

McCain wants to paste a label of Carter on BHO's forehead. A Good Ploy.

Human Cloning and Lesbian Marriage:

If human cloning is legal, then there may come a point that Lesbians can bear their own children. By my definition, they can be "married" legally and logically.

For the novice, this is the Human Cloning Procedure (after Dolly, the Sheep):

1. Women Partners need to decide whose "clone" they prefer, first.
Say Partner A wants her clone. She will be the donor of the "Nucleus".
From her breast, cells can be removed and cultured, and her intact nucleus can be safely but gently removed.

2. Partner B provides her Egg and the uterus. Her egg can be removed and its nucleus removed and discarded. But the remaining cell is kept alive and active.

3. To this nucleus-less cell, Partner A's nucleus is injected. Now this cell has the cytoplasm from Partner B and nucleus from Partner A. This would give chromosomal 2n (46 chromosomes). Now the cell will be "activated" and implanted in the uterus of Partner B. When the activation is good, the cell will divide and the embryo will grow in the uterus of the Partner B.

4. If everything goes well, a healthy female clone of Partner A will be born in about 9 months.

Voila.. Lesbian couple can have one of their clones done.

5. The roles can be reversed, and Partner B can be cloned the same way.

Voila.. Lesbian couple can have their clone daughters.

It is doable and biologically possible. Technology needs to be perfected by the R&D of Fertility Clinics in US or elsewhere.

What would be the behavioral attributes of the clones?

I believe it would be nearly identical of the donor of nucleus.

I will vote for Human Cloning, and Lesbian Marriage.

Just a thought.

Stay tuned.

ap,

It's hard to know what Chafee should do. RI politics is so incredibly corrupt. The Democratic party, as you may know, overwhelmingly controls the legislature, and there is hardly an honest person in there.

Taxpayers are being ruined because the partnership of the crooked legislators and union types have set up stuff like very early retirement and incredibly generous retirement benefits for state workers. And there are many state workers, something like 1 in 5 or 6 jobs in the state.

I say all this as a Democrat. So, currently there is a Repub Governor, but his opposition to stuff just gets overridden, and he has some traditional Repub values that are not great.

I think it would be a waste of Chafee to have him as Governor.

What we really need to do is clean house with the legislature, but the bums keep getting re-elected. The only hope I see is that some of them actually are winding up in jail.

Would that we had a citizens initiative petition right, but we don't.

apissedant said...

karen anne,
I'm not that aware of RI state politics, but I've seen a decent amount of state legislators in Michigan and Virginia. I don't see many of either that are worth a hill of crap. No one goes out to vote for these people, or really knows anything about them for the election. Here in Virginia, it is only a 2 month job that pays 20k, so it is rather hard to get anyone to actually want the job in the first place. My local delegate is an alcoholic that Tim Kaine's transportation town hall meeting half an hour later, griping and complaining very loudly, with all the local TV cameras surrounding the Governor and trying to listen to what he said.

As much as people complain about our federal government and the inefficiency and stupidity of it, local and state governments seem way worse.

By hindsight 20/20 on Carter:

1. Carter should have sensed the coming of the Islamic Revolution in Iran well in advance.

2. He should not have been that close and friendly with the brutal Shah of Iran.

3. He should have appointed Volcker early on to curb the domestic inflation.

4. He spent more time in micromanaging the WH rather than seeing the bigger picture of his
Presidency.

He was a terrible lousy President. But he realized it soon after his exit, and started building a name outside the WH.

Egypt & Israel Peace was his lasting achievement, though. (Clinton worked his level best to achieve one between Palestinians and Israel. But it just didn't happen.) Carter was just lucky!

He will follow the trip to those two war-torn countries with a separate European sojourn.

It was Congress that had to act. Wonder if some of Bush's aides (or rather Darth Cheney himself) recommended that the bill be vetoed?

Interesting that 10 years ago, when Nelson Mandela was President of South Africa, Congress couldn't bring itself to pass such a resolution.

Oh yeah, Congress was controlled by the Reptilians at the time. No wonder the resolution wasn't passed then.

I am amazed at the arguments made by people who don't understand our system of government. "Carter should have appointed Volker earlier."

The Chair of the Federal Reserve Board serves a four year term by statute. While the Chair is nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, it is considered to be an independent position rather than part of the executive branch. In other words, the new President does not get to appoint a new chair until the old chair's term expires. As such, Carter did not have the authority to appoint Volker until the previous chair's term expired.

Blaming Carter for the ineptitude of the chair appointed by Ford is like blaming the life guard at the beach for the tide rising.

mike in md,
Well most of my service was post 9/11, and the job I had was known for people not liking it and trying to get out anyway possible. Many people who were not gay attempted to violate don't ask don't tell in order to get kicked out. Some got their spouses refer them as alcoholics to the command, and then fail the 28 day program. If all of these attempts failed, a few went UA for 30 days or more, did drugs, or attempted suicide.

The gay one is easiest because the discharge is typically honorable, and no civilian company can refuse to hire you for homosexuality. The alcohol one is honorable as long as you don't get in any trouble, but then your DD-214 says that you're an alcoholic on it. Rather annoying for future job interviews. The others may very well end in OTH discharges, so it is best to avoid those ones.

Prior to DADT military wording:
Homosexuality is incompatible with military service. The presence in the military environment of persons who engage in homosexual conduct or who, by their statements, demonstrate a propensity to engage in homosexual conduct, seriously impairs the accomplishment of the military mission. The presence of such members adversely affects the ability of the armed forces to maintain discipline, good order, and morale; to foster mutual trust and confidence among service members; to insure the integrity of the system of rank and command; to facilitate assignment and worldwide deployment of service members who frequently must live and work in close conditions affording minimal privacy; to recruit and retain members of the armed forces; to maintain the public acceptability of military service; and to prevent breaches of security.

. . . no civilian company can refuse to hire you for homosexuality

Sorry to say, but in one half the states is IS legal to not hire, or to fire, a person because they are a homosexual. In only 25 states (plus DC) are there laws on the books prohibiting a company from firing a person because they are gay or lesbian. For employment by an agency of the state government, 32 states have protections, but usually those are executive orders signed by the governor, and can be changed at any time when a new governor is sworn in.

Lambda Legal has the details for each state at:

What does, "prevent breaches of security" mean?

In the twisted minds of the military brass who wrote those regulations, a homosexual member of the armed forces would be more susceptible to being blackmailed for being gay than any other member for just about any other reason. If they were susceptible to being blackmailed, then they could be turned into a spy very easily, or at least 'forced' into giving information to 'the enemy' (think Soviet Russia).

Again, 'military intelligence' is very oxymoronic.
