Even that most Republican of Republicans, Charlie Black, has acknowledged that Palin is SERIOUSLY lacking in foreign policy and national security experience:

“She’s going to learn national security at the foot of the master for the next four years, and most doctors think that he’ll be around at least that long,” said Charlie Black, one of Mr. McCain’s top advisers, making light of concerns about Mr. McCain’s health, which Mr. McCain’s doctors reported as excellent in May.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/30/us/politics/30veep.html?em

Although that 'at the foot of the master' comment about McCain's national security experience almost made me crack up with laughter. Is Charlie Black comparing McLame(brain) to some of the greatest teachers and thinkers of history? Or is 'the master' is a reference to a deity? Doesn't that take wind out of the Repigs attempted memes that Obama supporters think of their candidate as 'The Messiah'? Kind of funny when you think of it that way.

MinM, actually I thought of it more of a "master and slave" scenario. Beings how misogynistic McCain is.

To the other Mike who has hi-jacked everyone else's name. I didn't ASK you! I shared my opinion about HATING THAT woman's voice. So what. SUE me! There are many MALE voices I can't stand either! For example, when McDouchebag speaks in front of a teleprompter, he sounds like he is talking to a group of 1st graders. My friends this, My friends that. BULLSHIT, YOU ain't no friend of mine John McShrub!

I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend! It hot has heck here in Houston!!! I'm ready for the cool weather of November to get here and for November 4th to get here so that we can VOTE!

Now I am leaving this thread again until tomorrow!

I am getting confused. Who was the poster who butted in when a certain poster complained about someone else posting with his moniker and a certain poster advised a new moniker, then complained about some else using her moniker? Perhaps you now understand why it is offensive to the person who has first established that moniker, and how it is irresponsible for a web administrator to permit such chaos.

Mike-

The name MIKE is a common name, and chances are that anyone could show up here with that name or John, Jim, Ann, etc.

I was trying to be helpful to you earlier today ... but you instead have took my name, photo, and profile comments and made it almost impossible for me to post here. I didn't see anyone on this thread do that to you! If they did I missed it.

GOP Desperation (Hail Mary Pass).

From a distant observer, it has been obvious to me that the McCain campaing has been in deep trouble.

They have realized this for some time now, and that is why they started to go negative failry early. The negative advertising has improved McCains numbers slightly, but hasn't had the effect they were hoping for. Hence; Sarah Palin.

To Karen Anne on this blog:

Here is what I mean (let me explain). Take a careful look at the second graph or Electoral College Graph at http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Pres/ec_graph-2008.html

This graph measures the EVs for only those states that are polling 5% or more for either candidate. Notice that Obama has been steadily consolidating his hold and locking up all of the Kerry states (blue states). At the moment he has a very strong hold on about 250 to 260 EV. He is only 15 to 20 EVs short of the presidency, and there are about 100 EV's up for grabs in battleground states.

At the same time, notice that the solid EVs for McCain has been either holding steady or declining slightly. His hold on historically red states is significantly weaker than for Obama. At the present time he has only 175 solid EVs. And this is why the Republicans are now in a panic.

They have just a little over two more months to find 100 EVs.

This brings me to Sarah Palin.

I can clearly see that Sarah Palin, our cheer leader, pretty face and all, has been brought in to salvage John McCain's campaign. The Republicans are grasping at straws. They see her as being able to energize the fundamental Christian base, which has been lethargic at best, and being able to garner enough female votes out there to make a difference. noe of the other choices on McCains short list fit this bill.

Watch John McCain step back slightly and let her take the lead. Her stecato voice and gung-ho attitude is what John McCain lacks. And it is obvious she is one hard faced barracuda (acid mouth).

Don't worry about the EVs when leaners and ties are included. And don't worry about the national polls. This is 50 separate elections all running simultaneously. The polls will be almost dead even (49.5/50.5) by election night, unless something major happens along the way.

Keren Anne, you are too close to the action. From my distant view, Obama will have this wrapped up about one month from now, barring any unforseen circumstances.

I am worried that with all the stuff coming out about Palin and the new polling of her that came out today... that at the GOP convention they might vote for a different VP and then the game would be changed again!

Polls: Voters Doubt Palin’s Qualifications While Obama Expands Lead

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/08/30/polls-voters-doubt-palins-qualifications-while-obama-expands-lead/

In the poll taken Friday, 39 percent said she is ready to serve as president if needed, 33 percent said she isn’t and 29 percent have no opinion.

That’s the lowest rating any running mate has had since then-Indiana Sen. Dan Quayle was selected in 1988 to join George H.W. Bush’s team.

Did anyone else noticed how sour the Republicans surrogates were on CNN Larry King Live following Obama's acceptance speech. They had no come back, after Obama ripped a strio off McCain. It is clear they were all blown away. The Republicans can sure hand out the trash talk but sure can't take it.

Mug said...

Well, Palin is a joke. By choosing her, McCain has slapped feminism in the face and made himself out to be a liar. Feminism has always been about post-gender meritism; recognizing the qualifications of women. McCain's choice is pure tokenism. Instead of choosing a woman because she is qualified, he's chosen an unqualified person because she's a woman.

Secondly, McCain's only seemingly legitimate argument against Obama for month's now has been that Obama is not ready to lead the country because of he lacks sufficient experience in politics and especially foreign policy. By choosing Palin, he has made the statement that she is qualified to replace him if he should be unable to fulfill the duties of his office. So, everything he has said about Obama not having enough experience is a lie.

Seems the Army is so desperate for enlistees that it has opened a prep school so that high school dropouts can get a GED and then fill the ranks.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nation/bal-te.prepschool31aug31,0,1639791.story

Something I found interesting:
The Army's own studies show that only three in 10 people ages 17 to 24 are eligible to enlist, with the remainder barred by health or legal issues, or the failure to earn a high school diploma or equivalent.

A study issued by the National Priorities Project released in January found that while the Army has a goal that 90 percent of recruits be high school graduates, it hadn't met that percentage since 2004.

In the 2007 budget year, the project found that only 71 percent of soldiers entering the service had graduated.

The article states nothing about the cost of this prep school, but it has to be fairly expensive.

Maybe McLame(brain) was thinking about this situation when he agreed with the woman in Nevada that the draft will soon be needed?

To know the things that the GOP is going to have problems with with Palin all you have to do is look at what they are focusing on at the moment and putting out their own spin on:

1) Her baby (probably her daughter's)

2) The Bridge to Nowhere (She says that she said No Thanks - but there is evidence that she was for it)

3) Her ethics reform (but she is under investigation

4) Her qualifications (she doesn't have any)

The best place to hide a secret is out in the open :)

Karen Anne said...

One significant thing about the baby issue is that Palin is claiming to be a pro-choice heroine because she says she knew about the Down's in advance and chose to have the baby anyway.

If he's her daughter's, they probably didn't know in advance. Down's is pretty frequent when the mother is in her 40s, but probably darn near non-existent when the mother is a teenager. So I bet it was not screened for.

Vicki in Seattle said...

Rich, I agree with you. Palin's family life is really none of our business. I was similarly against the folks who thought it was irresponsible of Mrs. Edwards to not tell the media about her personal life.

personal life should be, well, personal!

there are plenty of other things to talk about, when discussing Gov. Palin: lack of experience, lack of information, lack of ability to understand the vast vast array of differing opinions in this country, etc. My objection to her is that she'd not qualified to be VP (let alone POTUS). She clearly does not represent MY voice. McCain could have done much, much better. I'm disappointed in him, trying to generate theater when a presidential-type decision was really called for.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Where exactly is the line?

If a political figure says things don't the public have the right to know if what they say is the truth?

It is Palin herself that has made the baby an issue in the campaign the first day. By using the baby as proof of her support for her pro-life view.

Also, the issue of 'good judgment' is involved regarding the baby. Such as why would any mother get on a plane and fly 12 hours after their water has broken. How can a VP devote time to five children especially when one is a special needs child.

The MSM is writing articles regarding all of this so I don't see what is wrong with us discussing the issues here - or at least letting people here on the thread what is being talked about everywhere else.

apissedant said...

rich,
In some cases I would agree, but this one is special. Her entire campaign so far has been based on her personal life, and therefore her personal life is open for questioning. As Democrats, we got flack for John Edwards, and he isn't even our candidate. I'm so glad my first choice lost by the way.

apissedant said...

karen,
The screen for those under 35 is optional and costs approximately 500 dollars. We did not screen our soon to be son for it.

Independent Voter said...

Rich, I agree with you to the extent that IF it is a rumor. If it is just a rumor it should be extinguished. However, the media needs to do its job and do some actual investigation on the matter to get to the truth.

And the ONLY reason I say this, is because it goes back to the entire Republican platform of "family values". If it turns out that the kid is indeed her grandchild, it should be uncovered. Not to smear her daughter but to show that this woman in her acceptance of McCain's offer lied to the American people on SEVERAL fronts.

But then again it could backfire. Meaning she would gain the "sympathy" vote because she wanted to protect her 17 year old daughter.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Basically in the two public appearances that Palin has made - 95% of what she has said has been about her and her family.

Perhaps everyone is now investigating her and her family is because she has not came out and talked about her policies or what she stands for other than that she is pro-life and pro-oil drilling and for ethics reform.

I want her to talk about the economy, Iraq and Afghanistan, supreme court justices, Russia/Georgia, education, healthcare, jobs, energy, equal pay, veterans benefits, etc. She hasn't said one word regarding any of those things yet.

But she has talked a lot about that baby, moose burgers, and snow mobiles.

Richard said...

Let me clarify: I am not saying that a candidate's private life not relevant in an election, especially when they put their private life out there as an example of their qualifications. The simple fact of the matter is that we have no facts; all we have is speculation. To repeat speculation in the absence of evidence is gossip, and it is neither healthy nor productive.

If someone, either a member of the media or a private citizen, comes up with evidence that anything occurred other than what Gov. Palin has said, then it might be appropriate to post it here. In that case we can argue about its relevance to the race, and we may differ on that issue. But for now we have no evidence to justify spreading what may or may not turn out to be merely vicious rumors.

Independent Voter said...

Rich - I agree with your clarification whole-heartedly.

Independent Voter said...

Rich, the only thing is, that without the "rumor" there would be nothing to investigate. So I think people actually putting the possibility out there is in a way, well, kind of good?

If it gives the media something to investigate (provided they do their job), then good. But then again it is also up to the media to ALSO report whether the rumor is false or not.

apissedant said...

Rich,
I find your clarification much more agreeable. It is VERY IMPORTANT not to report the rumors as truths.

However, as Dave said, every investigation starts with a rumor, and without the rumor there will never be any truth. I think it is important to not give these rumors too much weight, or even circulate them very much, but that still allows for SOME analysis.

For instance: THE BABY
The baby has down syndrome, and is rumored to possibly be the 16 year old daughters.

In favor of the rumor: The mother took a 12 hour plane flight from Texas and delivered a half an hour speech while she was supposedly in labor, which seems dangerous and stupid, unless she wasn't having a baby at all.
The daughter missed 4-5 months of school for, "a bad case of mono." Her picture was taken with her family during this time period, and there was no swelling in her lymph nodes, just in her FUPA. I have personally never heard of a child missing school for that long for mono, and the timing is coincidental.

Against: The child has down's syndrome, which is typical in older mothers, but very rare in young mothers.

No conclusion can be drawn from this information, except for that either way, the 12 hour flight seems inappropriate. If she was pregnant, she endangered her baby. If she wasn't, she lied and then accepted kudos for something she did not do. Then, after covering up her daughter's pregnancy, she decided to run for VP, where the truth would end up coming out on a national stage. This seems against the purpose of the cover-up.

Either way, on this one particular issue, I don't see how it could possibly be positive for her.

As for the rest of it, again, no conclusions can be drawn.

apissedant said...

Here is an article where she goes at length explaining the trip:

http://www.newsminer.com/news/2008/apr/22/palins-flight-labor-falls-under-scrutiny/

Her "experience" of having 4 babies apparently makes her qualified to decide what is healthy for a newborn. The flight attendant's first aid training apparently makes them qualified to give birth just as well as a doctor in a hospital. WHAT!?!?!

This is patented Religious Right thinking, with, "it's all in God's plan" thinking, and "science is hogwash" thinking. I DO have a problem with this. I DO NOT want my government thinking like this. I WILL comment negatively about this type of thinking.

apissedant said...

Joshua said...

Regardless of age, every pregnant woman is counseled and offered a screen for Down’s syndrome. Many opt out. It is unlikely that a parturient returned to work on post-partum day 3 after delivering a normal sized newborn. It will require a heroic effort to do that. But it will also show a woman who does not care about the infant, and places work over the child.

Joshua said...

Though the frequency of Down’s syndrome dramatically increases after age 35, most Down syndrome babies come from women younger than 25 because more of them are having babies.

Joshua said...

Sarah Palin’s “family values” is definitely fair game; in fact, more so than for other politicians. She is a republican and they always club people over the head with “family values.” It is not a gender issue.

Joshua said...

If the Down’s syndrome child is really Palin’s grandchild, the duplicity and deception is definitely open for discussion. If the child is hers then her level of maternal instinct is definitely fair game. This is not sexist but shows the kind of parent she is. This goes to character. Character is certainly germane when you seek high office.

There are some things O cannot and will not talk about. But we can certainly talk about them.

We complain all the time about Republicans spreading these smears about Obama, but it's fine for us to spread smears about Palin? I don't think so.

Joshua said...

Rich, I disagree. Someone’s religion is not open to debate. You accept at face value the statements of that person. It seems that you are one of those people who do not understand what religion is. Religion is a man-made construct and goes to how you choose to identify yourself. It is not for others to tell you how you see yourself.

Having a baby and dumping the baby onto a baby-sitter and returning to work is definitely irresponsible parenting. Let me explain that so you will have no doubt:

Have you heard of something called “imprinting?” The child needs to know who his mother is. It is irresponsible to have the child imprint a stranger in lieu of his parent.

That at least is a significant matter. It is very possible that this is an out-of-wedlock baby of her teenage daughter. This would be very significant. To deceive the public and claim a child not her own is a grave matter. I want to see the baby’s birth certificate. Obama posted his on the web when people like you were spreading fears about the circumstance of his birth. I call him a candid politician. I want to see Sarah Palin do the same and post the baby’s birth certificate. A birth certificate is a public document.

Richard said...

Rich,
Obama's campaign does not center around him NOT BEING A MUSLIM.

Also, again, in the one situation, I disagree with her EITHER WAY. If it is her baby, I disagree with her taking an 8 hour flight, a 30 minute speech, and all the driving just because she would rather have the baby in Alaska. In the other case, I disagree with her lying and covering up a child's pregnancy and then running for VP saying how heroic and what a great mother she is.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH WAY THE TRUTH ENDS UP GOING, EITHER WAY I FIND IT OBJECTIONABLE.

As Leah said, if this woman would talk about the issues, then we would debate her stance on the issues. Since she is campaigning solely on her personal life, then she not only opens the door for us to criticize her personal life, but FORCES US TO, because she has given us nothing else.

Joshua said...

jean,
The father has been an Alaskan fisherman for a very long time. I don't think he has spent too much time raising the children. Now you want him to raise a mentally challenged infant and 3 other children? That seems like an ugly learning curve.

Anyone who lives in a major fishing area knows that the fisherman spend a very long period of time out to sea. The woman is a self-described PTA mom and hockey mom. There has been no indication of the father having an active role in the raising of these children to date. "Primary caregiver" is a challenging job, and just like we shouldn't have a VP with no experience or ability, a family shouldn't want the primary caregiver with the same lack of experience. To say that any man could just wake up one day and play "Mr. Mom" is insulting to the mothers and fathers who are acting as primary caregivers now.

jean said...

It is total speculation.
It could be that is what he has always wanted to do, stay home and take care of the kids.

We also do not know that the baby is not Palin's child. There is a question from the media. Everyone reads, well most.
My problem is that she is not protecting her daughter.
If it is the daughter's child that is hard enough, if it is Palin's child she is totally doing a horrible thing to her daughter without clearing this thing up immediatly.

Just because someone "wants" to do a job does not make them qualified. There are men that are qualified to be stay at home dad's. You cannot jump into the job with 4 children, one an infant that is mentally challenged and be successful. You are not ready. You did not raise those children, you don't know what being the primary caregiver job entails.

It is not speculation, it is his job, and her own words.

Here is a description of Alaskan fishing:

That is from the government that SHE runs. The crew often sleep on board and stay out to sea for long periods of time.

It is speculation that he is not capable.
My husband worked 80hrs a week till a non-compete clause when he sold his company.
For 3 years he stayed at home after that. He did everything with the kids and house etc.
He did great and was mad when he went back to work.
Not all women are meant to be mothers, to assume that is wrong.
I am willing to bet Palin had a housekeeper and possibly a nanny at the same time.

Obama has a law degree and a degree in International Relations, has taught Constitution law (10 years) while he was a state senator for eight years and is now a U.S. Senator of the United States of America. Obama has traveled to MANY foreign countries over the years and has met with many foreign leaders. And over the past 19 months he has ran one of the most successful campaigns - people and budget - that has ever been run in American history.

Palin is NOT qualified to be VP and didn't even have a passport until 2007. She has a degree in Journalism for goodness sake! Her time as mayor is laughable - the town was very small and she had only two duties according to the towns job description: 1) to break the vote if it was a tie, and 2) to cut ribbons if a new business opened. She has LESS than 2 years experience as a governor of a state that has a very LOW population. Her husband works for an OIL company. Palin is pro-OIL and pro-life. Sarah Palin is under legislative investigation for abuse of power of an elected official.

The choice is clear here... Obama/Biden is the only sane choice!

Who said all women were meant to be primary caregivers? I specifically said that some men and some women are suited for the jobs, and others are not. I said that he DOES NOT HAVE THE EXPERIENCE that would make his success likely. That is true. I said he has 4 kids, one an infant with a mental disability. That is not an easy job. That is a job where experience is VERY HELPFUL.

As to whether she had a nanny or housekeeper the entire time she raised her children, well that is speculation.

I respect primary caregivers, whether men or women enough, to know that their job is both important and difficult. That the temperament and knowledge required do not just come over night.

Just because she raised 4 children, well not yet, does not mean she is better qualified to raise a disabled child.
The speculation of a housekeeper and nanny, yes it is. But you have a speculation or two also;)

The Republican strategy seems to be working... everyone is talking about Palin 'the mom' instead of the real issues: the two wars, the economy, McCain's judgment and age, healthcare, jobs, energy, etc.

This campaign is going to turn into a soap opera instead of an intellectual debate about who is best qualified to be a world leader and what direction this country needs to go.

So we have just been screwed ;)

If experience doesn't matter, then I can be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Leah can be President of the United States, and Dave can be Vice President. I'll let Mike in MD be Senate Majority Leader, and StopObamaNow be Senate Minority Leader.

Experience is important. How much and what type of experience is the debate, not whether or not it is required.

Every job requires an application with references and work history, even sales associate.

Raising 4 children is even more difficult. Every college has a major solely devoted to these special needs students, and they all require learning basic skills for educating regular children as well as educating special needs children.

My wife has a degree in caring for adults and children with down's syndrome, and has been doing so for 6 years. I am smart, but I can't do her job. My mother was the primary caregiver for 3 children that have grown to be successful college graduates, and two own their own businesses. She also has run her own daycare for 25 years.

I won't disrespect my mother or my wife by saying that a man that worked as a steel worker and a fisherman could step in and do the job just as well tomorrow. HAVING a child has nothing to do with RAISING a child.

Starting with one infant is one thing, and there will still be a learning curve. Starting with 4 children of various ages and again, one with special needs, that is a totally different ball game.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the situation. The short memory of Americans doesn't help either. This hurricane will likely go down without much drama, which is a good thing for our nation. The problem is I'm afraid the Republicans will be credited with doing things right, because they DID THEIR JOBS FOR ONCE.

Katrina was the 3rd strongest hurricane to hit land in the US, yet it had the worst damages and worst number of casualties. Instead of comparing how well they respond to THIS hurricane, DURING AN ELECTION YEAR, to how well they responded to Katrina, we should be comparing it to hurricanes that previous administrations responded to. That won't happen.

Just like with US death tolls in Iraq, they compare it with December of 2006, the worst month ever due to Republican failures, and now they have successfully postured themselves as... well... successful, because they didn't screw up as bad as they did in December. WHAT!!??!?!?!

The near IR probe is already being used to test multiple other properties, and they're attempting to expand it into detecting this property at all. It looks like it may work, but not with the precision we were hoping for. The additive is supposed to be at 100 PPM.

I might even introduce a Senate rule that everyone must be civil, and if it is determined that someone is NOT civil, all their leadership and committee positions in the Senate are null and void. If they are obnoxious, as determined by a majority vote of each party, they are tossed from the Senate. After all, Article I, Section 5 states "Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members . . . ."

Alaska National Guard General: Palin Plays No Role In National Defense Activities Even When They Involve The Alaska National Guard

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/31/alaska-national-guard-gen_n_122860.html

Excerpt:

Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell, adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard, considers Palin "extremely responsive and smart" and says she is in charge when it comes to in-state services, such as emergencies and natural disasters where the National Guard is the first responder.

But, in an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday, he said he and Palin play no role in national defense activities, even when they involve the Alaska National Guard. The entire operation is under federal control, and the governor is not briefed on situations.

Obama memo takes shot at Palin

MINNEAPOLIS -- Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign said Friday that Republican rival John McCain's decision for a running mate signaled that he is beholden to the right wing of the Republican Party and putting politics ahead of judgment.

In internal talking points for Obama surrogates, the campaign asked: "What does his selection of Gov. Sarah Palin say about the kind of President John McCain would be? "

The memo, obtained by The Hill, lays out how Obama surrogates should attack Palin, noting that McCain had only met the governor once before tapping her as his running mate, emphasizing her inexperience and proclaiming the McCain picked Palin to placate the right wing of his party.

"John McCain made a political calculation and has chosen a candidate who will mollify the right and shares his view that the economic policies of George W. Bush are working and should continue," the memo read. "And that’s a risk America can’t afford."

While the Obama campaign released a statement Friday saying that Obama and running mate Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) hailed the pick, the internal talking points memo distributed to surrogates made it clear that Democrats plan to portray Palin as inexperienced and a politically expedient pick for McCain to mollify hardcore conservatives in his party.

"What does it say that he knuckled under to the right-wing of his party, who angrily threatened to veto McCain’s preferred candidates, Joe Lieberman and Tom Ridge, for their pro-choice views?," the memo reads. "What does it say that, in order to satisfy the right, he hastily selected someone he barely knew-and had only met once – to serve a heartbeat away from the presidency?"

Palin's response to a candidate questionnaire for the Alaska 2006 gubernatorial race:

Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

SP: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance."

Palin may not be offended by the phrase "under God", but I'm offended by her lack of knowledge of the Pledge and it's relationship to the Founding Fathers.

According to this Wikipedia entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pledge_of_Allegiance), the Pledge was written in 1892 (by a SOCIALIST !!), adapted by Congress in 1942 to be the Pledge used in the US, and the phrase 'under God' was added in 1954. I don't think any of the Founding Fathers were alive in 1892, let alone in 1954.

Oh, and someone at 538.com posited that she wasn't referring to the Pledge and the Founding Fathers, but her reference to 'it' was a reference to God.

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

I had some fun asking who was the worst with their explanation. IMO, it came up a tie between Palin and the Repig troll on that thread.

You guys have completely terrible resumes for the Executive Branch. Apparently you do not realize how these positions are currently assigned. Remember if by some miracle of Satan Senator McCain becomes President McCain, this is what your resume should include:

1) An explanation that you have never had anything to do with the administration you want to work in or oversee. If you have never worked in this field, you have never made a mistake regarding that field, and therefore you're good.

2) An answer to this simple question: "What about President McCain makes you want to serve him?"

This is how the current administration has been run, this is how Senator McCain has run his Presidential campaign, and all polls show that a minimum of 40% of voting Americans approve.

Based on this, Secretary of Education cannot be assigned to anyone with more than a GED. All others destroy their resumes now.

apissedant said...

Mike,
The Constitution also does not include God, and "In God We Trust" was not added to money until Abraham Lincoln. God was intentionally left out of our founding. Only the Declaration of Independence refers to God, and the man that wrote it didn't consider himself a Christian. Astonishing how our history has been distorted so much.

apissedant said...

If they have a any sort of a debate where people can write in questions, don't write in any policy based questions, just history based questions. McCain and Palin will both miss all of them, and we'll have entertainment from good old Keith the next day.

Richard said...

Oh, oh! I get it! So, since I have absolutely no military experience and am perfectly willing to lie to John McCain about my motivations, I should become Sec. of Defense?

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Mike in Maryland -

I got hooked on Obama for president when I first saw his speech in 2004 at the Dem. convention.

BUT when I truly knew that he would be a great president is when I learned that he had been teaching Constitutional law at a university.

I truly want a president that knows what is in the U.S. Constitution and what the other laws of this land are.

I know that our U.S. Constitution says that a president must be 35 years of age and a natural born citizen and that there must not be a religious text... but in my opinion there needs to be a new amendment written in order to insure that unqualified people cannot become president or vice-president. Some sort of test that measures the knowledge of our Constitution and the basics of the law of our land. I would even go as far as saying that perhaps the Congress should have a pre-vetting process to insure that our country does not end up in the hands of someone like Sarah Palin.

When a presidential candidate can pick an off-the-wall person to put on the ticket with him/her without the American public having any say at all regarding his choice then something is definitely wrong with the process that we now have.

Someone needs to go back through the comments and make a list of all of our new jobs and post a list. I'm drinking Italian lemoncello tonight and my eyes are too blurry to make the list! LOL :)

Btw... last Sunday night my hard drive on my main computer crashed BROKE big time... I did go back and copy the Electoral Vote Contest data from this thread and saved it on a new computer. I lost everything! All of my Obama photos that I had saved - around 400 of them .. almost 1000 Italian songs that I had downloaded over the years, and all of the short stories that I wrote in the Italian language. Nothing was backed up and it actually made be sick to my stomach for a couple of days. I feel better now - but it still makes me sad.

Leah,

Sounds like you need an external hard drive for your computer.

Go to TigerDirect.com, click "Hard Drives" in the left-hand column, then click "2.5" Mobile Hard Drives or "External USB/Firewire" to get to several dozen of each.

Then when you save something, save it to the external hard drive also. That way, you have it on the HD of the computer, but you also have a copy backed up. A lot of external HDs have automatic backup software, so you can set it to back up at a certain time each day - you don't have to remember, so you don't forget.

Thank you for your advice. But now at this point I don't have anything to save and I don't even have my own new computer yet. I am on a borrowed one.

I have learned my lesson though - not to keep so many special things on a laptop without backing them up ;(

Aunt jean -

I wanted to tell you that I am truly glad that you are now supporting Senator Obama. I really do not like John McCain and even more I do not like Sarah Palin. I think Palin has shown poor taste by using Hillary's words about the '18 million votes and the glass ceiling' - she should not have done that. Also, yesterday during the McCain/Palin rally Palin mentioned Hillary and the crowd 'boo'ed' and Palin stood there smiling. I think Palin should have said something to the crowd that they should not boo. Obama has told his crowd in the past not to boo Hillary and I have respected him in the past for doing that.

Palin is NO Hillary.

I, as a woman, feel very insulted that McCain is trying to fill Hillary's role as a woman's advocate with another woman (Palin) that has basically done almost nothing in her political life.

On this issue I hope Hillary comes out fighting and puts Palin and the Republicans in their place!

Yes, we posted similar things earlier but your post has a longer video.

Like I said earlier today ... pregnant women don't walk in winter in high heels.

I think this is going to be a big story very soon and before the election.

I posted a photo link earlier today of Palin when she was pregnant with her first baby and in your video she does NOT look pregnant at all!

Today the news folks said that Palin is heading back to Alaska because she packed only enough clothes for a couple of days... I will not be surprised if she drops out of the race and stays in Alaska.

p'd ant - HOW RUDE! Giving me the VP slot? UGH! You are comparing me to Palin? You ASSHOLE!

At least with me being a Poli Sci major, how could you possibly compare me to a glorified journalism major? At least I have a CLUE as to what a VP does. I would say compared to her, I would be TOTALLY overqualified for the job.

I know, I'll go back in the closet, go into the Minneapolis airport and play foot tap in the stall. I will send inappropriate text messages and e-mails to my male pages. And then I will get anti-gay legislation passed. would that qualify me to replace Mark Foley and Larry Craig? Of course I would have to deny to my death of EVER having a homosexual encounter. The only problem is I'm not quite sure what to do with Bill ;)

On the Pregnant Palin stories, I've read the DailyKos blog posts (and the Andrew Sullivan blog), and while amusing, I suspect there's not much there. I could be wrong though.

Essentially, if this really were the case (Sarah Palin being Trig's grandmother, not her mother), this would have shown up in the Anchorage news feeds long before now, and Ms. Palin certainly would have disclosed this (and/or disqualified herself) to the Republican folks in an initial interview. After all, the Republicans may be incompetent in governance, but not in politics.

For now anyway, it's a fun possibility, but like other conspiracy theories, I don't think it'll hold much water. In a post Thomas Eagleton world, I doubt that even the current Republicans could make that level of an error, not to mention the Palin family as well.

For what it's worth, here's a nice Alaskan Political blog, where one commenter appears to have some personal knowledge of the story.

I would suggest going here: In the Land of Palin, and then searching for posts by "Sue Williams", an Alaskan Republican who knows the Palins casually. Her posts appear to be well written and genuine. And she believes that Sarah Palin, not her daughter, is Trig Palin's mother.

For now anyway, I believe this story won't have legs. It's a fun story though.

The race between Obama and Hillary was fair in regards that both of them are Senators and do have some Washington experience. The people of America voted, delegates voted, and a choice was made.

But as far as Palin is concerned, ONE MAN - JOHN McCAIN - has chosen her.

And he has chosen her for the wrong reasons. He knew he was not going to win going up against Obama. He knew his base as not excited. He knew that all the people he could pick would have baggage or faults -- so he chose Palin because she is female and not well known. This is truly an insult to all women and to America. And an insult to all the female Republican senators and governors that are more qualified.

Also, McCain has used poor judgment because he has chosen someone that is NOT ready to fill the slot of President if he were to die. On a Sunday talk show a McCain camp person said that Palin will 'be at the foot of McCain for the next four years learning all that she needs to know." WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT!

I could go on and on but my fingers need a break!

Mike in Maryland said...

OK Tyler, she might not be the grandmother, but the mother.

If she IS the mother, then excuse away the (delayed) fast trip from Dallas to Wasilla, Alaska for the impending birth. A trip that was first delayed because she HAD to give her speech on oil policy. And that speech was given HOURS after the amniotic fluid began to leak.

BTW - leaking amniotic fluid does not necessarily mean the water has broke. A doctor can determine what is going on with a physical examination (not over the phone, ala Dr. Frist-like), and if it's not because of impending birth, immediate action needs to be taken to prevent complications, such as infection.

If she's not the mother, she's guilty of lying.

If she is the mother, then the trip back to Alaska shows she is totally irresponsible.

Either way, what does it say about her character and concern for the health of her children?

I have only seen a few photos. If it works for former Senator Bill Frist, it works for me. And this is even my area of specialization. The teenager in that photo is gravid. Laymen call that pregnant.

1. Sarah Palin is a liar.
2. So much for abstinence-only sex education, a republican stalwart.
3. McCain never vetted the Palin woman. Talk about judgment. He put someone right in line for controlling the nation’s nuclear launching sequence and did not bother to do minimal due diligence? Before I hire a receptionist, I check her out more thoroughly than McCain checked this woman. And you want to tell me that McCain is taking this presidency seriously? I have heard of an impulsive rash decision but this is ridiculous.

I will reserve final judgment till I verify dates. This is just looking at her picture and no other information.

"Am I sure"? No -- it's just a lot of comments on an interesting thread by a particular person -- Sue Williams -- who appears to be a "real name" from Wasilla, AK (google "Sue Williams" alaska) and her address and phone number show up)

Her claim (and I recommend going to that site and thread -- where there appear to be many skeptics too) is that Trig is Sarah's son AND that Bristol is pregnant (but not due for a month or so). I'm not saying it's fact, but I am saying that I give more credence to her posts than -- at this point -- I do to the DailyKos story, since many of the pictures are undated, since virtually all of the late pictures are of her in black, and since she appears to be pregnant in the last months (and yes, I've seen the video)

What does it say about Palin's judgment that she would get on a plane for 8 hours after her water broke? It says bad things -- essentially it shows that she's driven and determined to do things her way, regardless of the risks. Kind of like McCain.

But regardless of the truth (which we'll find out in the next few days anyway), this pregnancy story sounds like pure small-town rural state stuff. And it reinforces my view that Ms. Palin is out of her league right now.

She may not make it through the convention at this point, (which is what makes this story so much fun), but for now -- until some reputable news outlet (even the Anchorage Daily News, which would be in the best position to get to the root of this story) confirms it, I suspect that the rumors of Sarah Palin as a grandmother are false.

Hope all this helps -- Enjoy the fun.

Anyhow, it's time for me to go to bed. I hate the fact that I love stories like this one (PreggerGate), but it's so irresistible, that I had to spend 3 hours researching it -- to get my mind off of the approaching hurricane and the possibility of the Republicans milking a disaster for all its worth.

Good night all.

Sarah Palin was FOR earmarks before she was AGAINST them.

From the LA Times:
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/washingtondc/la-na-earmarks1-2008sep01,0,6108885.story

Palin relied on earmark system she now opposes

From the article:
On Friday, when McCain introduced her as his running mate, she said she "championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending," the legislative technique used to slip projects into appropriations bills without rigorous congressional review.

But under her leadership, the state of Alaska has requested 31 earmarks worth $197.8 million in next year's federal budget, according to the website of Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), the former chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

So we can document another Republican flip-flopper.

And some more allegations that she was FOR the Bridge to Nowhere before she was AGAINST the Bridge to Nowhere.

From Reuters:
http://www.reuters.com/article/vcCandidateFeed7/idUSN3125537020080901

Palin "bridge to nowhere" line angers many Alaskans

Among those angered are Ketchikan Mayor Bob Weinstein, a Democrat, and Mike Elerding, a Republican who was Palin's campaign coordinator in the southeast Alaska city.

Flip-flop. Flip-flop. Flip-flop. Flip-flop.

Any bets on how long she will remain on the ticket?

Leah,

Oh, what a shame about your files.I know there are places who will try to recover data from crashed hard disks, maybe you can try one of those?

I have just a few photos saved, I can email those to you once you have your system back.

I still have my Mom's email to me locked up in a pc with a beta copy of Windows 98 on it that won't let me in as it went past its expiration date. My brother tells me there is some way to remove the hard drive (some ancient type of drive) and read it on a new system, but I haven't gotten up the nerve to look for that yet.

Now I use 4MB flash drives for backup. I tried with a hard drive, but drop those once they're history. With a flash drive, I've heard they can even survive accidentally being washed in a pants pocket
