Mike in Ga, Thank you. He is doing much better. He still has several months of recovery, but he'll live.

You are absolutely correct. We, Bill and I, are not the die-hard gay rights advocates. We are more "equal rights" advocates. Like I said the other day, we don't care what it is called "marriage" or "civil unions" because we do realize that "marriage" is an establishment that came from the church. However, that is also an institution that should not be recognized by the state unless everyone is entitled to the same rights, responsibilities and benefits afforded to our heterosexual counterparts.

At the same time, our civil rights are not as pressing as those of the rest of the country at this point. At least not in our minds. I personally believe that the economy in general needs to be settled, the Iraq war needs to come to an end, women's rights need to be cemented (AND extended - equal pay for equal work), the minimum wage should be increased (beyond the recent increase), healthcare needs to be afforded to ALL Americans, etc.

We could take advantage of California's same-sex marriage laws (since the Supreme Court overturned the ban), but until it is recognized on a federal level, we feel that it does us no good. We have each other, and that is enough for us at this point.

There are MANY within the gay community that fit directly into the stereotype. But first and foremost they are still human beings and deserve the same respect as anyone else, not only as human beings but also as Americans. It is unfortunate that we do have many within our community that do illegal drugs, that are very promiscuous, but it isn't because it is more prominent, it is simply noticed more because we are not considered to be mainstream and is emphasized because we are a minority in society. This is no excuse bur I don't reject people from my life because they do something that I don't like. I will inform them of my feelings but I try not to judge them. The main reason is because they could be looking to me for help, and I would feel horrible if I didn't make myself available to help in their time of need.

Again, thank you for opening, not only your eyes, but your mind and seeing that we truly live our lives just like any other American family, the only difference is that we have the same sex organs.

They need to justify their rate of inflation as compared to goods and services of this country.

I'm loving Rachel Maddow's new show. She talked about the biological weapons that the Bush Administration has ignored. While Republicans continued to foster fear for votes, we have become more and more vulnerable to attack.

Too bad the bombs that will strike our country if McCain is elected will also harm those who opposed him. Targeting Republicans only would give a new definition to "smart bombs".

AJ, the picture was taken this year. If you combine that with her addressing and praising the AIP (Alaska Independence Party), her husband belonging to the AIP at one point in time, and this picture addressing an audience in front of a flag with 49 stars could make one wonder if she truly has the United States interest at heart or ONLY that of Alaska.

I too am appreciating the ability to "talk" with you all, this is truly an amazing thing.

We are all human beings. Most of us just want to be loved and appreciated; to have the basics of food, water, and shelter that is clean and safe; to live our lives untroubled by violence of any kind; and to be able to worship, each in our own way (although the atheists can sleep in if they want - VBG!!!). I am truly hoping that we can all work towards achieving this, not just for ourselves, but for one and all.

It sounds like Palin has opened up the golden window of opportunity and the gloves are off, oink, oink-

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama told an audience Tuesday that GOP presidential nominee John McCain says he'll change Washington, but he's just like President Bush.

"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said to an outbreak of laughter, shouts and raucous applause from his audience, clearly drawing a connection to Palin's joke even if it's not what Obama meant. "It's still a pig. You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still going to stink after eight years."

McCain's campaign called the comments "offensive and disgraceful" and said Obama owes Palin an apology. Obama's campaign said he wasn't referring to Palin and said the GOP camp was engaging in a "pathetic attempt to play the gender card." Obama's camp also noted that McCain once used the same phrase to describe Hillary Rodham Clinton's health care plan.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

The WHOLE quote:

Obama made the remarks at a Virginia campaign stop late Tuesday afternoon. “John McCain says he’s about change too, and so I guess his whole angle is, ‘Watch out George Bush – except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics – we’re really gonna shake things up in Washington,’” Obama said.

“That’s not change. That’s just calling something the same thing something different. You know you can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig. You know you can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change, it’s still going to stink after eight years. We’ve had enough of the same old thing.”

"marriage" is an establishment that came from the church.

Dave,

Marriage was taken over by the church. It is a custom that pre-dated the church.

Up until Christianity, marriage was a loose social contract. The Christians made it a 'holy sacrament'.

BTW - Did you know it was Emperor Augustus (reigned 44 BCE to 14 CE) who made divorce more difficult? He was an early proponent of what we would now call "family values". He penalized people who failed to marry, rewarded those who had large families, and made it more difficult to get divorced. Why? He was afraid that not enough Romans were being born, and that the Empire would eventually be in danger of being over-run by non-Romans.

Between Houston and Austin I saw probably about 100 cars left by the side of the road that had broken down or ran out of gas. There wasn't gas anywhere. Thank goodness I left with a full tank of gas and I even turned of the A/C otherwise I would have run out of gas too. It was VERY hot and after the storm on the news they said several people died in their cars from the heat. I can't remember the exact number of people put it was more than a handful.

I especially liked the coverage of the primaries. I found no site on the internet who had better delegate coverage.

I too find myself checking the DCW site many many times a day. Although there are a few battles once in awhile, overall it is much more interesting than sites like FOX, ABC, CNN, etc. Some of the bloggers on those sites are so extreme (in both directions) and in many cases rude, obnoxious and so gross that I don't enjoy going to them. Newsweek Bombshell: Palin & Family Warned of "Emotional Child Abuse" by Judge

by Steven R Tue Sep 09, 2008 at 08:47:29 PM PDT

Bombshell news in Palin's prior behavior in a matter involving emotional child abuse of children entangled in her sister's divorce from Officer Wooten, also knows as the Trooper in Troopergate.

Court documents show that Judge Suddock was disturbed by the alleged attacks by Palin and her family members on Wooten's behavior and character. "Disparaging will not be tolerated—it is a form of child abuse," the judge told a settlement hearing in October 2005, according to typed notes of the proceedings. The judge added: "Relatives cannot disparage either. If occurs the parent needs to set boundaries for their relatives."

"It is the mother's responsibility to set boundaries for her relatives and insure they respect them, and the disparagement by either parent, or their surrogates is emotional child abuse,"He added that: "If the court finds it is necessary due to disparagement in the Mat-Su Valley for the children's best interests, it will not hesitate to order custody to the father and a move into Anchorage."

The judge called Sarah Palin and her family's behavior a form of child abuse and almost awarded custody to Wooten.

I love it. You know that Obama is on the right track when we read this stuff regarding lipstick on a pig:

McCain's campaign called the comments "offensive and disgraceful" and said Obama owes Palin an apology. Obama's campaign said he wasn't referring to Palin and said the GOP camp was engaging in a "pathetic attempt to play the gender card." Obama's camp also noted that McCain once used the same phrase to describe Hillary Rodham Clinton's health care plan.

Gets McCains camp on the defensive and gets Obamas comment and reason for the comment out there free of charge to the whole nation. Its a sound bite that sticks.

Bob in Vancouver said...

McCains latest ad, concerning education (teaching sex to kindergarten) is really going to back fire on them. I don't care how far down the scale you are as a voter, will automatically realize that this was total attmpt at a smear.

I like your list of issues. The one that stands out in my mind is "McCain/Palin=war".

I've read, and heard on TV, that it has been embedded in the minds of most American presidents that, as a legacy, to be considered a great president in history, you have to have won a war.

I've often wondered if this was in the back of Bush's mind when the war against Iraq was started? I also wonder if it would have been the last war we would have been involved in had it not gotten bogged down in the counterinsergency? Or would there have been another altracation with Korea or Iran?

Reporters quickly unearthed evidence that Obama had said the same thing about Iraq policy, pointing to a reference the Illinois senator made last year: "George Bush has given a mission to General Petraeus, and he has done his best to try to figure out how to put lipstick on a pig."

Later, it turned out that McCain himself used the phrase more than once, including last year, when he was talking about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's 1990s health care plan. He said last October, "I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig."

"McCain has demonstrated in the last two months that he does not have the character to be president of the United States. And that is why it is more important than ever to ensure that Barack Obama is the next president. The alternative is now unthinkable. And McCain - no one else - has proved it."

Leah/Dave - This is the normal mode of campaigning for the Republicans. I've said many times that Senator Obama will have a very hard time keeping focus on issues. We are now 55 days away from the election and for the past 10 days this has been the Republican strategy. This is the only way they can win. They would be very happy to do it all the way to November 4, 2008. I know you feel we must fight back - but the fight has to be on the issues (economy, health care, taxes, social security, CHANGE). The Democrats can't beat the Republicans by using the Swift Boat Strategy. The damn Republicans are experts at this approach. It goes against Senator Obama's beliefs - he has not shown this style of campaigning and I personally don't want him to start now. If someone has to do this - let the 527s handle this B.S. Where are the Democratic 527s?? Just my opinion!

I actually was able to post a couple of neutral comments and then I was taken off of moderation... then I posted a couple 'good' comments directly to Murphy telling her that I thought the website wasn't balanced since there were only anti-Obama comment and no anti-McCain, noMcCain, McPuppet, etc. comments and my comment got posted and then when I went back this morning my log-in was no longer valid LOL :)

The photos that they have posted over there in the past 48 hours have gotten pretty disgusting.

I'm done going over there to snoop because their number have dwindled so much that the PUMAs really are not an issue anymore :)

How the heck are ya;)
I am infuriated about Palin and her political ways of using her daughter, son, and lying 24/7.
Excuse me, both sons of which one is a disabled baby.
I feel it is time to stop holding the punches and calling it as it IS.
If I remember the last few elections the Dems lost.
It is time to let loose and take care of business.
The thought of McCain/Palin representing the US would be one of the biggest embarrassments I can think of, besides Bush, well it actually could get worse with McCain/Palin.
I guess I am in a fighting mood;)

Question:

how long can Sarah Palin play the role of "pit bull with lipstick" and "barracuda"

AND

be "too delicate for those harsh reporters"

???? because I'm having a very hard time holding those too concepts in my head at the same time.

Kujo said...

Bridge to nowhere.....

Sorry for bringing this issue up again, but it has not been properly explained.

Palin, as we all know by now, campained for the bridge to nowhere.

When she became Gov. She "bravely" went against the bridge.... but kept the money and said we will build the bridge with our own money.

Ha?

You might be able to play this shell game on McCain but not on the rest of us.

She just moved the States money she was spending on roads and moved it to the bridge. Then she moved the 300 million for the bridge to the states accounts for roads.

I.E. she did not stop using federal funds for the bridge.

She did delay the bridge building to make sure people would not notice, but in the mean time WORK IS CONINUING ON THE ROAD'S LEADING UP TO THE BRIDGE.

Question for John McCain. Why did you let Palin keep the 300 million for the bridge if it was a waste of our money to give it to them in the first place?

Vicki in Seattle said...

ps, whatsis name (Charlie Gibson?) is NOT a "harsh reporter". I mean, when does she face down a REAL reporter? one who will ask her REAL questions??

If they made a Palin doll that talked when you pulled the string, I don't think it would go over that well.

She only has 1 message and thats a big lie to boot. You would kind of get sick of it after a while.

That would be interesting idea though. Lets create an Obama doll that talks of his policy he would bring to washington. People would buy the doll so it would not cost to product (maybe be able to raise money for the cause too.) Then everyone would get this novel idea and put it on there desk.

Hi, iv,

You are right, of course, but the thing is when one gets older, doctors start ordering tests every time you look crosseyed for a minute.

Every test has the stress of worry before it, and after it waiting for the results. After awhile, you start thinking, I would be better off and much happier living in the woods and never seeing a doctor again in my whole life. And I would probably live longer just from less stress :-)

Most doctors really tend to overdo it, I think, whether from fear of being sued or what, I dunno.

Judge warned Palin in 2005 to back off brother-in-law's job

An Alaska judge warned Gov. Sarah Palin's family against trying to get her then-brother-in-law fired, according to court records.

That warning came long before the controversy over her dismissal of the brother-in-law's boss, the state's public safety commissioner, records show.

LOL AJ, Good guess? I don't know.

AJ, I don't necessarily refer to Cindy as a husband thief. Granted she may have very well known that he was married, and I'm not saying she wasn't at fault, but I do place MUCH more blame on HIM. It shows me that he is mentally WEAK and insecure with himself.

And although that may be going through Cindy's mind, I'm sure it is simply insecurity on her part because she knows that he was capable of it at least once, which may lead her to believe that he is capable of doing it to her.

Couple that with the rumors that are out there that Sarah possibly had an affair with her husband's former business partner. AGAIN that is RUMOR. And if the rumor is out there, Cindy may be believing it. I'm not at this point. If there is evidence in the divorce records then I'm sure it will come out soon.

Thank you all for welcoming me to your blog. I came across this blog when I was looking for a site that kept track of the delegate and superdelegate count during the primaries. This is my first time becoming involved in politics. The first time I voted was 4 years ago, and I regrettably voted for Bush out of political ignorance. I promised I would never do that again. So, I started following the candidates (Democrats and Republicans) any way I could (internet, T.V., etc.) to educate myself on their positions. Well, my self taught education has led me to fully support Barack Obama. With all the deception, half-truths and out right lies coming out of the McPalin campaign, how could anyone in their right mind want to vote for such a monstrosity of a ticket?? I just don't understand it. Bush has already put America in a hole, and now the McPalin duo wants to dig the hole deeper, with the intention of laughing all the way to the White House. Re: lots of tests.

When I was 31, I had sudden and extreme pain in my lower right abdomen - severe enough to wake me from sleep - and then it got much worse. I thought it was appendicitis, and went to the closest emergency room. After a series of tests, it was determined that I had a kidney stone (which I passed a few hours later).

When I was 41 and at work one day, I had sudden and severe pain in my lower right abdomen. I thought it was a kidney stone (pain was similar and in the same area), so I went home instead of to a doctor or emergency room. The next morning, I was woken by SEVERE pain, so went to the emergency room, doubled over in pain. They tested white cell count, took temperature, took blood for several other tests, and took X-rays. None of the blood tests seemed to show anything, but there was a 'shadow' on the X-rays that seemed to indicate a kidney stone. Eventually I was released, went home and went to sleep.

The next morning, I was woken by EXTREME pain, and went back to the emergency room. More tests, more X-rays, and finally it was determined that I had appendicitis. The surgeon later told me she was glad there was a plastic face guard in front of her face, as when she cut through the peritoneum, the infectious material squirted out like a fire hose. She also told me I was 2-6 hours from peritonitis (a usually fatal infection of the peritoneum). In her opinion, the appendix had burst 12-24 hours before surgery, and probably that morning when I woke in extreme pain.

The surgeon originally planned on an incision of about 1-1/2 to 2 inches, but had to make an incision of about 10 inches in order to clean out all the infectious material.

More than 1-1/2 hours later, I was transferred to ICU, then to a hospital room after 12 hours in the ICU. I was on 4 intravenous antibiotics for a week, had an oxygen tube down my throat (to help prevent pneumonia) for five days, and had pain killer dripped into the IV - try sitting up without using your abdominal muscles; you can't do it. About 36 hours later, I was ORDERED to walk to the end of the hall to the sun room - a distance of several hundred feet. The pain was not at all fun.

More than eight days later, I was released from the hospital to continue recuperating at home.

Exactly six weeks after I left work feeling ill, I was able to return to my desk, but only for 1/2 days for three additional weeks.

It was later determined that the 'shadow' on the original X-rays was most likely because my appendix had elongated and had some material that caused the 'shadow'. It also had become twisted and was touching a ureter, thus making it appear that the pain was the result of a kidney stone.

AND, it turned out some of the people doing the tests presumed that at 41 years old, I was too old to have appendicitis. Add in that I had had a kidney stone 10 years earlier, and kidney stones can, and do, repeat. This clouded their analysis of what the tests were showing. This also caused others to not conduct certain other tests that may have shown I had appendicitis rather than a kidney stone.

I will NEVER complain about a doctor ordering more tests if I have a suspected medical problem.

In 1978/79 I had major surgery. They told me that they would be able to do it in about 3 hours. Well it took 6 1/2 hrs. I woke up in or. After they brought me back to the room I was telling my mother about me having a dream that I woke up in or and that is when I found out it was a dream.

At the time my stomach was so flat my hip bones stuck out after surgery I looked like I was going to have a baby in a couple of months. They got me out of bed 24 hrs. later. Then I had to go back 10 months later and had the rest repaired that took 4 more hours.

What was bad about it is I had no outside stitches it was 1 long stitch and it got to itching a day or two later and I starting pulling at this piece because I just thought it was trash. Not knowing that it was holding my belly together. They cut me from my belly button down to my pelvic. AJ

AJ,

Several doctors reviewed the X-rays and the tests. Because of the kidney stone I had had 10 years earlier, the 'shadow' on the X-rays, lack of elevated white cell count, lack of fever, location of pain, and other tests, and my age of 41, the conclusion was that I had a kidney stone. Everything pointed to a kidney stone, nothing pointed to appendicitis. Also, as long as I didn't move much, the pain would subside, another characteristic of kidney stones.

It was only when I returned the next morning, and new X-rays didn't show a 'shadow', new tests showed an elevated white cell count, and new tests showed I had an elevated temperature, that they determined it might be appendicitis. More tests were then ordered that confirmed the diagnosis.

There also was a problem getting me to surgery - it was mid-afternoon when the appendicitis was firmly diagnosed, but all the operating theaters were in use at that time. It was more than five hours before they could get me into one for the operation.

I discussed all the above with the surgeon later. She told me it would have been extremely difficult to diagnose the appendicitis with all the test results as they were (pain with no elevated white cell count; no tumescence of the abdomen; lack of fever; the 'shadow' on the X-ray) even if I had had no history of kidney stones. Even so, the hospital was doing a review of certain procedures, and hopefully my experience would not be repeated.

All in all, I feel fortunate to have lived through the ordeal. But in no way do I blame the hospital for not getting the diagnosis correct that first day, as the staff did their jobs to the best of their ability and training.

Seems as if the Repigs of Mississippi have won at least a temporary victory in the placement of the Musgrove-Wicker line on the November ballot:

From the Biloxi Sun Herald:

Staffers for the Mississippi secretary of state's office were working late Wednesday to distribute a sample ballot to local election officials . . . The scramble to distribute the ballot came shortly after three Mississippi Supreme Court justices filed papers setting aside an order by a lower-court judge that had temporarily blocked the release of [the] disputed sample ballot.

Everyone: I like this:

A pollster whose mathematical model has correctly predicted every winner of the White House popular vote since 1988 is banking on a decisive victory for Democrat Barack Obama in November.

Emory University political scientist Alan Abramowitz said Wednesday that according to his "time for change" model, Obama would secure 54.3 percent of the popular vote against 45.7 percent for Republican John McCain.

That margin would virtually guarantee a crushing victory for the Democrat in the state-by-state electoral college that actually selects the next president, Abramowitz said.

Mike in Maryland said...

In addition to the Musgrove-Wicker issue, it looks like the State Board of Elections in Mississippi may be facing another legal challenge (and the Louisiana Secretary of State on the same type of issue):

From Ballot Access News:

In Mississippi, the State Board of Elections met on September 9 and disallowed the Natural Law Party’s filing of Brian Moore for president, because certain papers had not been submitted until 5:10 p.m. The office had previously said the true deadline was midnight, and that there was no cause for concern.

and

Louisiana’s filing deadline for presidential candidates and candidates for presidential elector to file was September 2. However, because of severe flooding in Baton Rouge, and power outages, the office had seemed to indicate that the deadline would be extended. However, on September 9, the Secretary of State indicated he would not accept late filings.

Do we see a pattern here?

Both states' election officials are controlled by Repigs. Both states' election officials are making it difficult for people to get on the ballot, but ONLY those who threaten to take votes from McLame(brain).

And some might wonder why I see a pattern.

Tonight when I was watching Palin's rally in Alaska there was a few seconds in her speech that really summed up what it is about her that is 'distasteful'....

She was up on the podium and she said a snide remark regarding how in Alaska they call snow-machines snow-machines and not snow-mobiles like in the rest of the United States. In that one sentence you could hear in her voice and see in her face that she really thinks that she and the people in Alaska are different and BETTER than the rest of us.

Anyway that was my impression.

Here is a link to a very short part of her rally:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dMPG8TUZHw

the snow-mobile comment starts at 3:48

Also, I think she said a few catty things during the 'whole' speech such as regarding Alaska: "I knew that the coldest state would give us the warmest welcome".

Don't forget about George Bush! Talking point number one: More talk about George Bush!

The way he's been talking lately you'd think McCain is running against George Bush. And he is.

Eight years of hell under George Bush is Obama's true opponent in this election and these two Republican clowns are just cutouts standing in for George Bush.

Saw this on another blog:

"Bill and Barack are having lunch in New York. They just showed them talking to the media together. They looked good and happy together!!

Bill Clinton predicts that Barack Obama will win and win handely. And Barack said about Bill there is no one smarter in politics.

I think there was a turning point at the Convention for the Clintons and Obama. They are now going to fight for the American people together."

Whoo Hoo! The B&B team will kick some Repug butt!!

Yippeee!!!

The Obama surrogates are getting tough!

On MSNBC an Obama surrogate just pounded a McCain guy telling him that McCain's sex education ad is A LIE (several times) and he kept saying SHAME ON YOU !!!

It's gonna be a FIGHT to the finish in November!

Leah/Aunt Jean - so are you still planning on staying in your homes? I don't envy either of you. This thing will undoubtedly be at least a Category 3, but it is so large that it could cover the entire area between Galveston and Houston with the later on the east side. I sure hope you guys have a solid home with a waterproof basement because the waves are up to 21' already and south of Lousiana is 30+ feet with a storm surge of 17+ feet. This is not something to blow off. I went through 4 of these the first year in Florida and I never want to do it again. All I can wish you is God Speed. Keep your head down!

Leah/Aunt Jean - this might be good news - the pressure went from 944mb to 952b which means it might be weakening some but they still have an official forecast for a major hurricane (Cat 3). They are updating each time a flight returns data from the eye. They are flying many more flights now.

I am on the Northwest side of downtown Houston. The Galveston coast is around 65 to 70 miles from my house - I don't have the same fear of danger as I did a couple of years ago when we were waiting for hurricane Rita that came shortly after Katrina in New Orleans.

By the way - the one thing that houses in Texas don't have are basements. There are a few basements in the bigger buildings in the downtown area but home here are mostly built on concrete slabs. There are some homes built up off of the ground but not that many and even those don't have basements.

I grew up in Illinois and everyone had basements, so to me the houses down here took some getting used to when I first moved down here some 30 years ago.

Leah/Aunt Jean - latest update within the last 5 mins is that the track has shifted directly over Houston Metro area and specifically through the bay. Ike is now 700 miles wide with Tropical Storm winds and hurricane force winds expanding out 200 miles from the center of the storm and expected to make landfall at high tide. Hurricane Zone Coastal, Zone A and Zone B need to evacuate due to the projected intensity (category) of the storm which is currently Category 3. Pressure has started to drop again. That's the latest.

Leah/Aunt Jean - I know I sound like I am preaching at you all - but I'm only raising the concern because I have seen the eye of 3 hurricanes go directly through where I lived in the past. The worst part was no power or utilities for almost 3 weeks. I will shut up now:). Good Luck!

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Mike-in-GA

Thank you for your concern.

I'm all stocked up on supplies here and of course I am hoping for the best for everyone.

The people from south of downtown Houston down to the coast are the ones evacuating.
Us folks up here north of downtown Houston will get wind damage but the water isn't going get us unless it is those people in low laying areas. I'm in a neighborhood that is not low lying so the water won't get us unless the roof blows off.

If I lived further down south then I'd probably head out, but I think I'm far enough north to be able to stay home. And Aunt Jean is way further up north than I am, so she is even safer.

Mike in Maryland said...

Leah and Aunt Jean, and any others in Texas:

Remember that the worst storm effects are the right front quadrant of the hurricane.

Think of it as a clock - whichever way the hurricane is headed is 12:00 o'clock - the right front quadrant is from 12:00 - 3:00. This is where the worst winds are usually located.

Since you are quite a ways from the coast, you shouldn't have to worry about storm surge at all, but you DO need to keep in mind the wind. The winds of a hurricane will not start to drop until after the hurricane eye has made landfall and traveled several miles inshore.

Keep an ear on weather reports, and how far out from the eye that hurricane-force winds extend, and also tropical storm-force winds extend. Remember, tropical storm-force winds can be from 39 to 72 miles per hour.

Also be alert for tornado warnings - the out bands of a hurricane is where tornadoes most commonly form.

Keep alert, and stay safe.

Leah - Any shelters opening in your area? One of the scariest trips my wife and I ever took was when we were in Virginia. The winds got so bad we finally decided to evacuate our home and travel 4 miles to the nearest shelter. Over 25,000 3'+ diameter trees went down in a 10 mile square radius since the ground was so saturated the roots would not hold. Luckily none landed on us but it took over four hours to cut our way through to the school. I've never been that scared in my life with those damn things falling all around us. We found out later that several who followed us spent the next full day in thier vehicles because they didn't think to have a chain saw. The ironic thing was my brand new $100K+ manufactured home never experienced any damage at all even though 90% of the homes in the community had roofs totally torn off. We sure were lucky!

Damn - more fodder for the Republicans - Joe Biden put his foot in his mouth by saying that Hillary was more qualified than him to be VP. He was trying to defend her from a supporter that was anti-Hillary. The Republicans will spend the next 2 days on this instead of the issues! Stick to the issues Joe and don't shoot from the hip please!

In reference to Oreo, it has always been that way. No secret.

He was real strong for HRC before.

Leah, I guess after the ceiling coming down in your bedroom you are now immune;)

Leah - I watch Directv Newmix so I can see all of the networks. Fox, Fox Business, HNN, and CNN have all been pushing it today. Seems like what's on the internet takes a day or so because that's where most of them get thier BS headlines to raise controversy and stir trouble. They make sure they quote him out of context - what else would you expect!

Jean - Yup that's why we bought a high-end Palm Harbor w/2X6's and 2X10's throughout and no pressed wood fiberboard like most homes. To bad some don't spend the extra money to properly secure them. I've got 3' screw anchors every 18 inches.

Damn Fox News - They keep pushing Biden's comments. Now all of a sudden they are Hillary fans. They just love controversy!

jean-

The bedroom ceiling has been finished now for quite some time, but I haven't moved back into that room yet - I'm still in the guest room. There is still an eerie feeling I get when I go into that room and I am sort of afraid to sleep in there in case the ceiling falls down again! LOL :)

The house could use a newer roof but I do hope that the wind does not hit us that bad!

FoxNews is the worst station to watch. They are always pro-McCain and pro-republicans.

If you are going to watch Fox then you are going to ALWAYS hear things twisted. I for one don't care at all about what Fox says... that station is for republicans.

MSNBC and CNN and C-Span is much better if you are going to spend time watching the news.
