As soon as the house passed the bill, the market players who went long in anticipation of the passage, sold to take profit. There is a short name for that. It is called: Buy the rumor, sell on the news.
The market is never backward looking. It is always forward looking. The market is always a predictor of the direction of the economy 3 to 6 months in advance.
What's going on with the comments in the main threads. Some threads I can see the comments for, some are just blank.
Indy,
You now know why sometimes it is like what the heck.
My version is that people keep trying to make a quick buck and get caught up in it.
The overall that I keep seeing is the DOW will hit 8000 for the full correction.
I think there is foreign money, maybe China, who drives it up then cashes out to recover thier loss.
Yes there are many other companys also.
The bail out does not come close to cover what is going on with the markets.
If someone cannot wait five years they are in a world of hurt.
This is honestly driving me nuts.
jean
Positive note.
NH just went to leaning Obama.
jean
Yeah Jean, and the RCP electoral count spread is now triple digits (101) with Obama almost there with no toss-ups (254).
Just have to keep everything going for the next month!
Whoops, typo, Obama at 264 with no tossups! :)
A bit of tax evasion investigation perhaps...
Palin's Tax Return Mystery: Where Are The Per Diems?
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/03/palins-tax-return-mystery_n_131791.html
and an excerpt:
Overall, the Palin's reported a gross income of $127,869 in 2006, and paid taxes amounting to $11,944 (an effective rate of 9.3 percent). In 2007, the family reported earning a gross income of $166,080 ($107,987.00 of which came from Gov. Palin) and paid taxes totaling $24,738, for a rate of 14.9 percent.
But there is some discrepancy with the latter number. According to an accompanying 2007 personal financial disclosure report, Palin's "income" as governor of Alaska was $196,531.50, well above the $107,987.00 that was noted on her W2 form from that same year. An email was sent to the McCain campaign for clarification. And this story will be updated should aides reply.

Yahoooo ;)
Do, ANOTHER typo - that is WITH tossups. Without tossups Obama is at 353.
Yes, it does look good in the polls but give up on the Repigs. They are going to go even more negative over the next 30 days.
We have to combat it with positive and reminding Americans of this:
We are better than Republicans think. They are underestimating the good in our citizen.
ENOUGH!xfc
Ooops! Sorry Doug, I didn't finish your name........LOL!!!!!! It has been one of those days.
Indy,
Thanks, I was a bit confused.
At first I thought you meant DOH but then I could not reference it.
As you said, one of those days;)
Just grounded son for basically not paying attention and now after 6weeks he has a D in Spanish.
I am still renting for free;) and he cooks too.
jean
Jean - OUCH! He better get his BUTT in gear otherwise the "no pass, no play" rule will prevent him from playing in school sports. That would NOT be a good thing :(
Indy,
Yup.
His life is mine right now.
Are you sure you are not looking for rental cooks, mean homemade spicy chow mein.
This is interesting.
Goes against McCain for withdrawing from MI and raised a whopping $57,000 in Dallas today.
Yup, just a bit sarcastic.

LOL Jean - I would love to hire my own (ok OUR own) private chef...but, we can't seem to keep the houseboys around long enough for them to cook us anything.......LOL!!!!! KIDDING!
Indy,
You are bad, just bad.
LOL.
jean
LOL Jean - I thought that would give you a laugh after a long exhausting week.
WOW! KO just called out Palin on ALL of her lies from last night. He just said he owes the Alaska Special Olympics another $1200 - ALL FROM ONE NIGHT! LOL
karen anne and everybody-Thanks. He can sit up for less than a minute and can stand on 3 legs for less than a minute. It'll still be a couple of weeks before we can find out any more about the damage.
iv dave-Do you want me to see if the houseboys can whip up anything for us? ;)
Kimmel manages to tie McCain's exit strategy to Bush also-
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=5947126
Too bad he didn't have anything to say about the eyes just before.
I would also have to say Biden must have done pretty good at the debate because a lot of people at work didn't have anything to say except it was cute how Palin gave a shout out to the 3rd graders. I found out an associate was leaning Obama and actually had the info he needed to decide he was for Obama. I have you guys to thank for helping me organize my facts and have sources.
Yahoo! ;) (leah)
Suzi - I missed the post about your dog and couldn't locate it. I hope he will recover soon. (My dogs are my children and I wish I could use them as a deduction.)
suzi,
Dogs are amazing when they know they are loved and wanted.
My dog was diagnozed with SA(no oil glands in the skin) and Addisons Disease 6 years ago.
He went from 75lbs to 40lbs and was always thin.
He was not supposed to make it and the Stinker is doing great and is 10 1/2 years old.
The meds were $400 a month but the treatment was stressing him out, we also were not going to pay that,
we tried 1/2 of predisone every other day,new treatment, and little dude rocks.
I really think he is around because he knows he is totally loved.
Just to let you know, I want to be my dog when I come back in another life;)
jean
beryl-In some ways we are as "dependent" on them as they are on us. My in-laws dog looked in on him a little while ago. She can tell something's wrong also. She's the only dog that has any rottwheiler in her that I'll let get near me. She's mostly lab. We rescued her. She was beat so much her head is crooked. All our pets have been rescued. What can I say, I'm a bleeding heart "conservative progressive liberal".
suzi - you are the woman.
I have one rescue dog and one purchased from a breeder. Although both dogs are bonded to my soul, I will only rescue going forward.
beryl-Thank you. I know I have a long way to go. I've also gotta get my kids on their own first. Since I bragged a little on my son the other day, I better report that my daughter also tested in the advanced range of the standardized tests.
Biden brought up that a man also understands what it means to struggle as a parent. He's right. Palin's out of touch and sexist herself when she keeps talking about hockey moms. I apologize for my part in not considering the part that single male parents deal with, because we are not a country of "traditional" families. It especially hasn't been that way since WWII. I'm not a pit bull though. ;) I know HRC wasn't throwing her support to Palin today while talking to Seacrest, and I'm not either.
Soft - speaking of the HRC interview on Seacrest (talking about the VP debate), anyone who may have missed it can listen to it HERE

Enjoy!
iv dave-Thanks for working your link magic.
LOL soft - you're welcome
beryl-Thank you. That makes it short and sweet. That breaks down the 20 articles I felt needed to be saved in my file.
It does look like there's some kind of glitch going on besides one of my cats nudging my hands away from the keyboard. We were able to rescue him after we saw we were going to have a problem with mice in the old house we used to rent.
Vicki - I forgot to answer you yesterday - I'm usually the cat wrangler. They definitely have warmed up to me more than Bill.
iv dave-There you go, start a show called the cat whisperer. Your nickname could be whiskers.
Have a good night, guys. I'm going to make sure Sarge still has the blanket around him. Our temps are starting to drop at night.
Actually I am only 44. I was the youngest "cat" there. (At least the other patients knew what that ment)
Had slight stomach problems which turns out to be, what I expected, another Kidney stone. But the MRI should something they wanted to know more about.
Turns out to be .... diverticulosis
The process was pretty easy, but I usually don't go that far on a first date!!!!!
Your right Aunt Jean.
That stuff sucked. Thought I was going to puke it out this morning.
Vickie

If you really looked at last nights debate, Palin did not look that good.
The republicans (and most everyone) set the bar so low that as long as she put together a noun, a verb and an adj. then she achieved her goal.
I would love to see Katie interview her again and just ask the same questions as Ifil, but make Palin answer the questions. That was the difference between the debate and the interview. When Katie went back to her and said that she will try again on the same question, Palin panics.
The latest poll for Indiana puts Obama down 1 point. But they did not call my mom, my dad, my wife or myself, so really Obama is +3
This week preview:
Tuesday Debate
Friday Troopergate
If Obama is maintain his current leads, would it be better if:
A. Troopergate investigation finds enough evidence to against Palin.
B. Troopergate investigation finds not enough evidence against Palin.
C. Troopergate delayed till after the election.
If Obama is maintaining this lead, then maybe C is the best thing. If it is A then maybe this gives Palin a reason to step down and McCain holds a huge event, anounces another Palin like VP who gets everyone talking......
My hunch on Troopergate is option D -- Investigator says that there are troubling indications that the investigation is being stonewalled, that what information he has obtained indicates possible improprieties, and that further investigation is needed.
TMess,
D would be the best solution in my opinion. I did her the investigator say that the people not honoring their subpoenas did not affect him. Many of them had giving statements previously to some other investigation and he was able to obtain those documents. He said he felt at that time he would be able to conclude his investigation on Oct 10th.
But I am not sure what that conclusion could be but only there is enough evidence that would show she abused power.
But what would that mean.
Would that mean Alaska congress would impeach her? Or could they just say that was bad, don't do it again.

MY COMMERCIAL
"McCain keeps complaining about Wall Street greed and Washington corruption.
McCain knows all about these subjects. In 1987 McCain attended a meeting to discourage regulators from going after Charles Keating, a wealthy campaign donor who had paid for Senator McCain to accompany him on several family vacations. The end result was a two year delay in regulatory action.
For two years, Keating was able to continue swindling American workers out of billions of dollars. Eventually, Keating's company, Lincoln Savings and Loan would be seized, and taxpayers and investors would be forced to pick up the tab. The Senate Ethics Committee concluded that McCain had practiced "poor judgment," and McCain would go on to admit, "I have done this kind of thing many, many times."
On November 4th, tell Senator McCain you've had enough of his poor judgment."
I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message.

ROTFLMAO!
Kujo,
Congrats on the benign result of your colonoscopy. So you had a diagnostic colonoscopy. This is different from routine screening colonoscopy. The former is done to any patient of any age when signs or symptoms warrant. The latter is done from 50 and above, or younger if risks are present in the patient or family. Again, congrats.
Question for you: do you drink a lot of soda? Which brand? May be connected with nephrolithiasis as you had.
McCain's medical info--

Since Palin can put together coherent sentences, perhaps people are no longer concerned
So I'm slowly starting my morning, since we're not fast-paced kind of people. I see this and make sure my son sees it. You can compare this to the "tactics" Hitler used in his "strategy" to attempt his world wide empire. Yes, there have been several other stuff attempted too. It's just starting to get so sinister. WTF?!-
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081004/ap_on_el_pr/what_voters_wear;_ylt=Ap7uGf5lfP6m19W1KgRR1JRB5494
I also think D would be a good option. We just need to keep as many people as possible informed of her ambition, greed, and corruption, not just McCain's. Which is why I liked peevish's ad draft. Things like that can change enough minds in states like TN.
leah texas 4 Obama-
Yea! She needs to eat her own words. You betcha! How would she like all the boys to get 'more adorable' on her and wink? Doggone it! If she had to take her own medicine, she would definitely be saying no fair. Oh well, it's all under that umbrella of emergency room health reform. :D LMAO :D BTW, did you realize that the pop. vote I gave as suzi goes with the 298 electoral vote I gave as soft? I'm glad you've been able to keep that info as you recover from Ike. I'm glad to see the projection go above what I guessed.
Check out this interview between David Letterman and Brian Williams about the debate, Sarah Palin, etc.
It's a little lengthy, but worth watching. ENJOY!

Leah,
LOL. I normally hate David Letterman, but that was hilarious.
Soft,
Glad you liked my ad draft. ;)
Oh, I shouldn't wink. Sorry, it's habitual.
ruby-They were hysterical. They even got my Mike interested, and he can usually only take a minute of politics at a time.
peevish-Doggone it. Hearing the debate wasn't the same as getting winked at so much, but she still didn't do it for me. ;)
Is this the kind of change McCain is hoping for here-
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081004/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_israel_enforcing_modesty
It's bad enough bleach sales have to be restricted to cut down on meth(Wasilla).
Suzi,
I couldn't believe when Biden almost cried. I never thought a male candidate would be able to pull off the victim roll, and make the female candidate look like the unemotional evil b****, but he did it. It was phenomenal. I know he is bright and he is caring, but he far outperformed what I expected of him. I can't imagine being more happy with a presidential ticket than I am now.
Also, I am all for an HONEST counter punch against the Republican ticket. The problem so far has been that almost negative ads on both sides have had at least a misleading undertone, and most have had an outright lie. MY proposed ad is 100% truthful, and attacks McCain on an issue that he is trying to attack Obama on. Obama never stepped in and attempted to prevent Rezko from being prosecuted, but McCain sure has heck did with Keating. I say bury the lying bastard with his own words.
This is too funny.........McShrub is arguing with himself.
This is so clear.
Sorry if it has already been posted.

Great clip Jean! Who do you like Monday? I am taking the Saints at home. I ALMOST took Miami at home v. the Chargers, but I think the Chargers will win.
doug,
This is just wrong.
Yes I am going with the Saints, I am a big Brees fan, and yes I am going with the Chargers.
We have to choose different teams soon LOL.
Son has another game at 1pm and he is finishing his 9am game.
Gotta go and probally sit in the rain.
Joy.
jean
What? Is it raining in California too? I am going to stand outside in the wind/rain at my son's soccer game in another hour too.
Cheers, and carry a big umbrella!
doug,
Highschools are very protective of their baseball fields.
I have 20 minutes before I have to leave and if it is raining they will call the game.
Praying for a downpour:)
jean
Amer,
Pop: I use to drink 6 cans of diet coke or pepsi at work a day and probably 2 large McDonalds size too.
But 1 1/2 years ago I quite pop all together. In that time period I had maybe 3 drinks of diet pop.
I am 5'8 and use weigh 240, I got down last year at this time to 180but gained most back.
Now chips are band in our house and I am back on track to get down to 190.
Jean, no such luck for me. We play Sept to Apr, rain (snow) or shine, and here it is mostly rain...
doug,
Daughter played knee deep in mud.
She quit soccer this season and is just doing Basketball.
Good luck.
jean
LOL Jean - it really doesn't look like it's going to rain. I've been contemplating on going shopping. So far, the cloud cover has made it a lazy day for me. I just can't seem to get my butt in gear. :)
I do have to say though, yesterday and today have been REALLY nice! The last two weeks have been hell. Way too much humidity.
I am looking forward to tonight's SNL.
I can see the sketch with a disembodied voice of the moderator asking questions like "Governor Palin and Senator Biden. what does 2 plus 2 equal?" and Tina Fey answering "Me and Senator McCain are the true team of mavericks."
tmess - LOL! I don't think they have to go that far.....all they have to do is use her own words.
I was listening to the pundits within the last couple days and they all kept saying that if SNL is really portraying them in a bad light, all those people watching will have that belief. I really can't wait to see what they do.
Kujo,
Keep up the good habits. If this is your first episode, maybe your doctors will not begin deep workup. If some diseases like bone resorption conditions are ruled out (and you didn’t have weight reduction surgery), diet is often the cause of renal stones.
Indy,
I am way lazy today.
Didn't want to wait the hour for the game and came home.
Don't want to go to the store and went borrowed flour from the neighbor to make Banana Bread.
Have to make Banana Bread because the things ripened to fast in the 5lb bag.
I am a bum and will now be late to the game, I watch 5-8 a week.
Too Bad.
I am a Bad Mom.
jean
WOW! I guess not all Alaskans fall in line with Palin. HERE is some video footage that was taken in Alaska of people laughing and booing at Palin.
LOL Jean - I hear ya. Today is the laziest day I have experienced in quite some time. It actually feels kind of good.
Ah, that's what I can do with overripe bananas.
Another way being single is sometimes a disadvantage. Like, what single person is ever going to work their way thru a bunch of celery before it's wilted.
Although there are advantages. I was in seeing a nutritionist this week and she was looking over a week's record of what I'd eaten, and she was going, peas? you ate peas for breakfast? Sure, no hubby or other constraining influence, why not :-)
Here we go! It's going to be a long bumpy ride.
Here we go!
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/04/palin-hits-obama-for-terrorist-connection/
If you don't have anything positive to say, then this kind of attack is all you have left. It isn't going to work in this election cycle:
* Palin is going to be dealing with her own problems in Alaska next week (real stuff that will remind voters of the things they don't like about Bush/Cheney)
* I think the public has made up its mind about Obama.
* Independents don't want to hear a negative campaign
* The Economy trumps all
McCain should pull out of Pennsylvania too:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/04/palin-hits-obama-for-terrorist-connection/
Obama is ahead by 9.6 (RCP average), his highest spread since the end of July, and McCain is falling like a stone there.
I wondered what the heck the Times was up to with that Ayers article. It's long been known that this is of zero substance, and if you actually read the article, what a concept, that's what it says, but the reporter/editor would have to be morons to think the Repugs wouldn't use this in their disinformation campaign.
Interesting financial item, since that's in the news nowadays-
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/sen-ernest-frederick-hollings/saving-the-country_b_131650.html
The Congressional Budget Office made a study of the cause of the increase in deficits the first four years of President George W. Bush: 48% due to tax cuts; 37% due to the cost of wars and national security; and 15% due to spending increases. The Bush administration and Congress have put the government on steroids for eight years, increasing the debt (as of 9/30/08) - not revenues -- $2.672 trillion.
Another smart thing you learn is how to low-ball the deficit by subtracting the trust funds. For example, the White House projected a FY 2008 deficit of $425 billion. The actual deficit is $1074 billion. The President and Congress constantly use Social Security surpluses to report a lower deficit. Section 13-301 of the Budget Act forbids this. But the President and Congress violate the law to appear fiscally responsible. Then they report Social Security is in trouble. Social Security reports a surplus of $2.4 trillion and is not in trouble.
suzi,
how is your puppy doing? Is he can stand even for a bit, I was guessing that that means the nerves are functioning...
Doug, I don't think he should pull out of PA. I say let him waste his resources on states that he is going to lose. :)
doug,
How was the game?
I chickened out and the husband is getting there now.
The umpire was over an hour late!!!!!!!!!!!
My job is banana bread and the kids want a fire.It is not that cold but they love a fire.
jean
Indy,
So are we talking the entire campaign??????? LOL
jean
Jean - pretty much!
Jean, I got wet, but my son's team played well and won for the first time this season.
Drying out and catching up...

Leah,
What is up with your state? Texas is no longer solid red! You must be busy out there (with my 1000+ relatives in Houston).
Hey Leah, I second that emotion!
That is a great clip, and the article makes a good point about why the stuff about Ayers is being raised again. The ratings for all media have never been higher for an election cycle than they are now, and it won't be fun (for them) if Obama goes up by 20 points by the middle of October.
Super video, Leah!
I wrote an email complaint to the times and said after the Ayers article, they owed us an article on Keating Five:-)
Somewhere in my Internet travels today I saw the video clip of Palin and her listening to Biden's speeches in the second grade crap. She really was being deliberately very snotty. The video makes that clear from her smirk in a way just the text does not.
Up to now, I've just despised her. After her taking after that good man, I really agree with one of my friends who said yesterday that they actually hate her.
Here's to her losing this election and never being in any public office again.
ka-Thanks for the positive thoughts. The vet wants to give it another week before he checks again for nerve damage. He only really uses his back legs. He's still awfully modest about potty times.
beryl-I'm kinda surprised I hadn't heard about that. Mike's addicted to Mocha Blasts and hadn't noticed the ice cream. The vote was very close on the website. We'll probably go there tomorrow.
Now my other cat is all over me. We rescued her from KY. She luckily had just been weaned before her mom died and was a barn cat, but she hardly ever wants to go outside.
leah-When reading your link, I saw they had 2 slideshows of Obamas' couple moments in honor of their anniversary. That made me think of you and beryl. I just love seeing 2 people want to be around each other and sound like they have common goals for their girls and for the country. The Bidens' look nice together too.
suzi,
The possible nerve damage is to his front legs?
I know I've seen photos or a video of a dog who lost his front legs actually walking on his hind legs only...
Other topic, a classy lady soldiers on with no progression of her disease:
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/us/AP-Elizabeth-Edwards.html
If the Repubs are left to replaying the Ayers, Wright and Rezko angle, I can see the next four weeks as being Charles Keating and McCain's health care plan.
After this campaign is done, I think the Repubs will take out whichever of McCain's advisers thought of repealing the corporate tax deduction for health care benefits and literally draw and quarter him/her. It is probably the most idiotic political idea of the past 100 years.
Well, I just got done making a couple hours of calls talking to voters in Ohio. Letting them know that Monday is the last day to register and that while they were there they could even vote early if they wished. I spoke to about 20 people. I was able to get about half to commit to Obama, 3 were still undecided (after the phone call - who had been leaning toward McShrub) and the rest were either voting McShrub or a third party candidate.
Those statistics are NOT the great part about it though. I had a split screen on my computer as I was looking at the script provided from Obama's site, but I was making calls from McShrub's website phone lists. When you notify the website when a call is completed it removes that person from the call list....therefore, those individuals won't be getting anymore phone calls from McShrub.
Thanks pretty smart thinking Dave!
ka-Somebody told me they saw someone on Oprah who helps with animals like that. I'm going to look for the archive. It was actually in the past 2 weeks. He can barely twitch the paw on his right front leg. There wasn't any internal damage or bleeding. I was so afraid I was going to see bloody hair on top of everything else when he started yelping and thrashing, then he went still and laid on his side.
iv dave-That's great news! Oh, and I'm not even going to go into the stories I hear about how shorter dogs manage to get together with taller dogs, LOL! :P
tmess2-We definitely need to bring up Keating.
Thanks Ruby and Soft.
ROFLMAO Soft!
Thanks Matt/Oreo/etc.....for cleaning up the trash. :)
I can just hear Jean now, "Oh sure, NOW it rains". LOL
HOLY CHIT! Al Franken has taken a HUGE LEAD in Minnesota.
IV: there was trash? well, glad it's gone!
tmess2-I still went back to find the segment of the vp debate where Palin talked about Maliki. She should speak clearly. It's those subtle misleadings that are getting to me. She should have pronounced it Talabani, not Talibani. Thanks for the clear up.
I may have jumped the gun on the Al Franken story, but hopefully it is a "good" poll.
The reason I say this is it appears that Democrats were polled disproportionately to Republicans and "Indendents". It said that 42% identified as Dems, 26% Repubs, and 27% Indys.
The numbers do seem to be WAY out of whack, but I think that they should verify with the Registrar of Voters to see if the numbers coincide with voter rolls.
I just wonder if anyone can find a source for this statement in an abc comment section-
Sarah Palin’s son Track Palin has joined the army to avoid going to prison.Track Palin is not going to Iraq because he is patriotic but because he was arrested, for vandalizing the brakes of a school bus,in order to avoid jail he enlisted himself in the army.
According to the National Debt Clock our current national debt is $10,155,652,614,513.16
The estimated population of the United States is 304,849,789
so each citizen's share of this debt is $33,313.63.
I'm not sure if the above amount includes the bailout or not. I'm assuming that it includes part of it but not all of it. Like I said before, I'm not sure how much of that is included in the national debt clock.
This was as of 8:45pm Pacific Time. Also according to the same site, the debt increases $3.08 Billion per day. The statutory ceiling on the national debt was also raised to $11.5 Trillion in the bailout legislation.
Soft - I had heard about the rumor as well, but I haven't seen ANY credible source stating the rumor to be true. Everything is coming out of the "left-wing" rumor mills.
There are a few sites who have "interviewed" one of the individuals involved saying that Track wasn't there and that he was not involved. Could it be his buddy is covering up (being paid off) for him? Sure. But I wouldn't worry about the rumor. It would be nearly impossible to prove since he would have been a minor at the time and the court records would have been sealed.
OOPS! My bad, the statutory debt cap was lifted to $11.315 Trillion, NOT $11.5 Trillion.
So what! What's $200 Billion here or there. Compared to the rest of the national debt, it's chump change.

Regarding Track I read about him awhile back here is a link to the article I first heard about the vandalism at:

.
iv dave-The issue I would have is saying he's going for one reason, patriotism, when there are many reasons for joining. I'm not too keen on the "left wing/right wing" rumors either.
I don't know about ya'll but I am ready for election day. I wish November 4th was tomorrow ;)
It seems that the nation swings back and forth too much every time something happens in the news and four weeks in politics is like a year!
Texas is not turning pink/blue fast enough for my liking and I will feel very disappointed if Texas is still red on election day ;(
One bright note -- on the website listed below that has a compilation of 84 projection websites

Leah,
Get that good feeling seeing a pink Texas here:

SNL was good - per usual. Sarah has done wonderful things for their ratings. They just need a new Obama look-alike.
Will Smith could do it (if he'd stop working out) but they couldn't afford him.
OMG Beryl - they put it on HuffPo already! It is HILARIOUS!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/04/tina-fey-as-sarah-palin-i_n_131964.html
Ya'll beat me to it - I was on the way with the SNL link too!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/04/tina-fey-as-sarah-palin-i_n_131964.html
I missed it on TV tonight but it is DVR'd so I will watch the whole thing tomorrow (the parts not on HuffPost)
The best thing about Palin is TINA FEY ;)
I read in a comment that SNL did a 'bailout' skit too but I haven't found that one online yet ;(
On the Tina Fey skit I have to go back and see if she 'winked'.
Loved the whole thing!
Leah - on the opening skit, they only *wink* that I saw that was blatant was when she did the "shout out".
Looks like Tina Fey did FOUR winks.
There was so much good stuff in there it is hard to remember all of it but Tina Fey was great for pointing out that Palin drops the "G" off of 'ing' words and the shout out to the 'maverick' drinking game was hilarious!
It was the best skit yet!
Great video of Bruce Springsteen talking about Obama and America on the front page of DCW.
Leah - I really wish that SNL would drop all their other skits. They are dumb. The ONLY ones that are funny are their political skits. (With the exception of Weekend Update.)
Political skits and Weekend Update...that's ALL they need to have a successful show.
I mean who really thinks McGruber is actually funny? Or the Cougars? (The only thing good about the Cougars are some of the cute boys they have.....other than that, the segment is stupid.)
Here's an idea for an Obama ad:
Starts with McLameBrain's comment that he would 'conduct an upbeat campaign about the issues' or whatever it was he said.
Announcer then saying "But has he done that?"
Cut to a lie from McCain (in his own words), such as his 'The fundamentals of this economy are still good.'
Obama: "That's not true, Senator."
Another lie from McCain
Obama: "That's not true, Senator."
And another lie from McCain
Obama: "That's not true, Senator."
End with the announcer saying something about if McCain can't even keep his promise to run an upright campaign, can we believe anything he says?
Mike
Indy-
I heard last week that SNL was supposed to be putting together a couple specials that would be 'all' political regarding this year's election ... but I don't remember where I heard/read it.
iv dave and leah-Thanks y'all for the skit link. I wasn't expecting snl to let anybody use it so soon.
beryl-When I mentioned the flavor vote, Mike said what flavor for the "Repugs", prune and bimbo? The only thing about the "Damocrat" flavor he could come up with was having a caramel ribbon in it because some say Biden goes on and on. He's trying to be a fair and balanced Independent.
VERY INTERESTING ....
Sarah Palin: Rally 10/04/08
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S03ZfFf_gGQ
TRANSCRIPT:
SARAH PALIN: Thank you, too, Shelly [Mandell, President of NOW's LA Chapter] for that kind introduction [...] and your endorsement. [...] And with your help, Shelly, in November, all of us that consider ourselves progressive --you know at the same time we can be conservative-- we're gonna shatter the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America. I was looking at Shelly's resume before I came out here and I thought, oh, there's some diversity; I like this, it's good. And [...] I've got to share with you --it was like kind of providential-- yesterday what happened to me. I can use this today after that introduction from Shelly: I'm reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, ok? the quote of the day. [...] It was Madeline Albright, former Secretary of State [crowd boos] and UN ambassador. [...] Now she said it, I didn't. She said, "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women." [crowd cheers] Ok, now thank you so much for receiving that well. I didn't know how that was gonna go over. And now, California, let's see what a comment like I just made, how that is turned into whatever it'll be turned into tomorrow with the newspaper.
---
Well how about that? Trying to tell women how to vote and also trying to dictate what will be picked up and in the newspaper tomorrow!
Mike, you know the other week McCaskil nailed it when she said that "an honorable campaign requires one to run an honest campaign and frankly Senator McShrub has run a dishonest campaign." (Something to that effect.)
I think this should be pounded at over and over and over. Because McShrub likes to try to tout his "honor" and by premising that he is not honest challenges his honor head on. And he is bound to blow a gasket, especially if Obama nails him on it in the "townhall" debate this coming Tuesday.
Soft - they haven't released the entire episode yet. And it won't come on here for another 10 minutes :( I got impatient...LOL :)
Leah I hope you are right as far as the "specials". That would be awesome.
In addition the "quote" that Palin used, WASN'T even the accurate quote. The quote was actually "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't HELP other women.
Which by the way, if she used the direct quote she would have been contradicting herself by charging women for rape kits.
Hahahaha... I have an answer to Palin's question of what the newspaper's might say about Palin quoting Albright !
They will probably say that Palin MISQUOTED Albright.
Palin said she said ""There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women."
Albright actually said ""There is a special place in Hell reserved for women who don't HELP other women."
---
Seems like those McCain Palin folks don't know how to do a google search. I doubt that Starbucks misquoted Albright.
Btw... I guess Palin is a mocha LATTE drinker now ;)
HuffingtonPost has it already!
Front page:
Palin Misquotes Albright: "Place In Hell Reserved For Women Who Don't Support Other Women"
Also Palin's original mistake on the Politics page.
That sure did get out there fast!
My hope for Tuesday is that McCain get's pounded on health care. There are several different aspects of it that will allow Obama to keep bringing it back up.
1) It's a bad plan that will increase the number of uninsured.
2) It contains a major tax increase on America's businesses.
3) It shows the double standard used by the McCain's campaign in trying to count tax increases/opposing tax cuts.
Tina Fey's next skit....
Tina can put a bunch of Starbuck's coffee cups in front of her and pick different ones up and read/rattle off the talking points from them! LOL ;)
"Sarah Palin Debate Flow Chart":

Enjoy!
Mike
m in md-She really went with the flow, don't ya know? That was hysterical!
538 has it that Governor Palin is going to be spending part of next week in Omaha.
That raises the question, are the internal polls showing that Nebraska's second district are that close or is the McCain campaign trying to put Palin someplace out of the way of the real campaign?
Mike-
Thanks for posting the gif link.
That is a good one!
leah-That's a great idea, also...Could I have a drink every time you post with a wink? ;0
This is the latest I've been up in a while.

Here's some more for ya gosh dirn it you deserve em' ;) ;) ;)
Now I'm goin' to bed and do a some sleepin' cause I'm wakin' up early in the mornin'.
Night all you hockey moms and six-pack drinkers ;)
tmess2,
The Obama campaign just opened an office in Omaha. Senator Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) has now been quoted as calling the city as "Obamaha".
I suspect Palin is being sent there in an attempt to dent the Obama campaign effort in 'Obamaha'.
Mike
leah-Goodnight. I will not break into my Tiffany bottle of Seagram's 1776 to take that many drinks. ;) LOL DOGGONE IT
m in md-I bet Palin just wants to meet Klinger. His nose would also be big enough to hold up those glasses.
Dang, how did I get Ohio confused with Nebraska? I better call it a night. I hear the UK is getting snow already. I hope you're enjoying it, ed.

I had to laugh last night: the headlines included both: "McCain plans more aggressive Obama attack"
AND
"Obama attacks McCain health care plan"
soooo ... one is planning to attack, the other is actually attacking. and Obama is keeping it up today, with his new ad that McCain is erratic in a crisis (DUH!).
might be a rough month ... if you are a die-hard republican.
This should be an Obama ad:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/05/weekinreview/05schwartz.html?_r=2&
Excerpt
“I’m just enraged that McCain calls himself a maverick,” said Terrellita Maverick, 82, a San Antonio native who proudly carries the name of a family that has been known for its progressive politics since the 1600s, when an early ancestor in Boston got into trouble with the law over his agitation for the rights of indentured servants.
Considering the family’s long history of association with liberalism and progressive ideals, it should come as no surprise that Ms. Maverick insists that John McCain, who has voted so often with his party, “is in no way a maverick, in uppercase or lowercase.”
“It’s just incredible — the nerve! — to suggest that he’s not part of that Republican herd. Every time we hear it, all my children and I and all my family shrink a little and say, ‘Oh, my God, he said it again.’ ”
“He’s a Republican,” she said. “He’s branded.”
Good Morning,
Something weird.

Hello Independent Voter:
As I thought, the Sarah Palin jokes keep comming. Last week's Vice Presidential Debates with hours of preparaation did nothing to salvage her reputation as a loose canon on a rolling deck (an obvious underweight that can't possibly be condidered Presidential material). With Letterman, SNL and Leno, she's a gold mine for lampooning.
I don't care if she can rally a crowd better than McCain. Those are people who are either there as die hard supporters, or people who want to see the actual source of the joke. The McCain campaign doesn't seem to understand that yet. She is and will remain to be an enormous drag on McCain's campaign right through to November 4th.
I loved that joke when Ifill asked Palin her thoughts on gay marriage and Palin (Fay) answered marriage should be between two reluctant teenagers or something to that effect. It got a huge laugh. Who said the public are not following this campaign?
I am so plesed that this blog and many others took on the fight to show America just who Sarah Plain was. and to highlight her lack of experience as well as all of the background crap she was involved with.
I know that the Obama campaign said to lay off her and her family, and they indeed havve never once that I know of, said a negative thing about her. They have kept their word.
But, once she was announced as McCain's VP choice, she made McCain's campaign much more formidable. She in fact, was the main focus of his campaign and the media just loved her. So I think it was critical that went after her and let the Obama campaign focus on and go after McCain himself.
I think it was "a sacred vow between two unwilling teenagers" --- I might have it wrong though.
I notice the marriage plans keep getting postponed. First it was right after the convention, then February, then (maybe) next summer sometime.
Meanwhile Bristol does not look six months pregnant to me, which revives the whose baby is Trig anyway theory. Although that is getting boring at this point.
Vicki, it was something like that. I would need to see the actual transcript of the skit but my memory is on the order of "marriage is a sacred vow that two unwilling teenagers are forced into."
A little bit of a low blow but given how much they were ragging on Scranton and Wilmington, it balanced out.
I wonder if the Repubs realize how much they are being laughed out of this campaign amoung under 50 swing voters.
These are more anti-Palin facts in my email.
1. A Google books search for Palin’s quote “never underestimate the wisdom of the people” that she said was from Thomas Jefferson, but it wasn’t, brings up only one book called “Hitler’s Third Reich.” Google here:
http://books.google.com/books?id=ARloAAAAMAAJ&q=%22never+underestimate+the+wisdom+of+the+people%22&dq=%22never+underestimate+the+wisdom+of+the+people%22&pgis=1
2. Palin’s other infamous misquote (about the value of small towns) came from Westbrook Pegler (an anti-Semite):
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/10/palin-quoted-anti-semite_n_125429.html?page=13
3. A whisper campaign surrounded Palin’s mayoral opponent, that he was Jewish:
http://firedoglake.com/2008/09/22/sarah-palins-wasilla-base-a-unhealthy-dose-of-far-right-extremism/
4. The leader of political organization that Palin’s husband as well as her political mentor belonged to, the AKIP, was sponsored by Iran to give a speech a separatist speech at the UN:

"Meanwhile Bristol does not look six months pregnant to me, which revives the whose baby is Trig anyway theory. Although that is getting boring at this point. "
Yes but it was Palin who offered up her daughter to "dispel the rumors". I've been thinking the same thing. Bristol appears SMALLER than she did during the RNC.

In case anyone missed it, SNL is going to be doing "Thursday Weekend Updates". I know here in San Diego it will air on Thursday nights at 9:30 after The Office. Perhaps this is what you were talking about last night Leah - that they would be doing more political skits.
Obama Obama Obama Obama Obama '08
Indy-
Yep, that must be it.
I saw the commercial too and it will be on EVERY Thursday after The Office here in Texas.
It is going to be a 30 minute show - I've set up my DVR already ;)
From the SNL website:
"SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE" PRE-ELECTION SCHEDULE AT A GLANCE
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9 – "SNL WEEKEND UPDATE THURSDAY" DEBUTS AT 9:30 PM
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16 – "SNL WEEKEND UPDATE THURSDAY"
SATURDAY OCTOBER 18 – LIVE (Josh Brolin and musical guest Adele)
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 23 – "SNL WEEKEND UPDATE THURSDAY"
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25 – LIVE (Jon Hamm with musical guest Coldplay)
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1 – LIVE
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3 – "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE PRESIDENTIAL BASH 2008" AIRS AT 9:30 PM
.
I stayed up long enough last night to watch the opening skit of SNL, but fell asleep before the "Weekend Update" segment.
I am ROFL at Seth - I'm still laughing about his part about "Lesbos".
Here's the transcript:
"Tow planes scheduled to land on the Greek Island of Lesbos, had to circle for half an hour because an air traffic controller overslept...though I'm guessing a lot of activities on the Island of Lesbos involve circling for half an hour."
Seth really looked like he wanted to bust out laughing. How they refrain from actually just burst out laughing is beyond me. They must rehearse these lines so many times so they don't bust out.
the over 50 independents (like me) are having a great time laughing, too.
Albright Hammers Palin For Misquoting Her At Rally
Albright responded to Palin's remarks in a statement to the Huffington Post on Sunday. "Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen to cite me as a source of wisdom, what I said had nothing to do with politics. This is yet another example of McCain and Palin distorting the truth, and all the more reason to remember that this campaign is not about gender, it is about which candidate has an agenda that will improve the lives of all Americans, including women. The truth is, if you care about the status of women in our society and in our troubled economy, the best choice by far is Obama-Biden."
Excerpt taken from article on HuffingtonPost.com
Yahoooo!
MSNBC just had the Palin Albright story and they read off the Albright quote slammin' Palin ;)
I'm watching the VP debate again (as it's being replayed on MSNBC - and of course she hasn't gotten any better - LOL!!!!) and they went to a commercial break. However, I flipped on over to Faux News. They were doing a segment on how people are turning to "comfort food" during this economic crisis. That's all fine and dandy, and the country will be even fatter than we are now, but that isn't really my problem. The problem I had however is that they referred to "meatloaf" as a "comfort food." Since when is "meatloaf" considered "comfort food". I know a lot of people say they like it, but not one person that I have actually met likes meatloaf.
(in my smallest, shyest voice):
I like meatloaf. With mashed potatoes and ketchup, too. I don't have it much, maybe once a year.
but my current favorite comfort food is a recipe from Yoga Journal, rice and lentils cooked together with Indian spices. It's vegetarian and much healthier.
:-)
(and also extremely inexpensive)
Say it ain't so Joe...McCain that is-
Joe McCain, speaking at an event in support of his brother, called two Democratic-leaning areas in Northern Virginia "communist country," according to a report on The Washington Post's Web site.
There ya go, McCains', goin' backward on us again, also. ;) I just love it when ya get to throw some of the same words back at ignorant people. :D
vicki-You could make meatloaf with ground turkey, brown rice, and seasoned stewed tomatoes. It would be healthy that way. My comfort food would be a salmon cake, baked, instead of fried salmon croquettes. I make it with oats and canola oil instead of cracker crumbs and mayo.
Mike hopes she realizes it's Putin and not pootin'. But does she know who the president of Russia is? ;) Even though we know Putin is the PM.
When I was an omni, meatloaf would have been a comfort food... Especially with a little ketchup, and mashed potatoes with melted butter.
How come when everybody ate that stuff hardly anyone was overweight...
leah-My son really likes your avatar. :)
The word verification is kind of like meatloaf, how ironic.
Uh Jean, it's about those Chargers... losing to Miami is not a good sign!
we didn't weight as much because we probably weren't sitting in front of these infernal computers all day! LOL!
The Economist's poll of economists
Examining the candidates
http://www.economist.com/world/unitedstates/displaystory.cfm?story_id=12342127
Excerpt:
"AS THE financial crisis pushes the economy back to the top of voters’ concerns, Barack Obama is starting to open up a clear lead over John McCain in the opinion polls. But among those who study economics for a living, Mr Obama’s lead is much more commanding. A survey of academic economists by The Economist finds the majority—at times by overwhelming margins—believe Mr Obama has the superior economic plan, a firmer grasp of economics and will appoint better economic advisers."

Troopergate Update
http://www.startribune.com/politics/national/president/30494974.html
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Seven Alaska state employees have reversed course and agreed to testify in an investigation into whether Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her powers by firing a commissioner who refused to dismiss her former brother-in-law.
Beryl-
That BullWINKle link is a great one ;)
Indy,
Meatloaf is a comfort food in my book.
With garlic mashed potatoes (lots of cream cheese) and steamed broc
with a very light white cheddar sauce that can accidently go on anything.
No, it is not good for you and high in sodium(among other things)
but boy is it good.
jean
Hmmmmmmm......well I guess I was wrong. People DO like meatloaf. But comfort food? Just give me a hamburger and I'm good.....all comfy......LOL!

Oh, and by the way, when I was watching the VP debate again, even though Stalin didn't get any better, Biden on the other hand looked better :)
I may be biased though...LOL
Indy,
You can make 3 lbs of meatloaf to 2lbs of ground beef.
This gives you more to overeat.
Comfort.
Doug,
I am going with Jacksonville, I can't stand the Steelers.
I had to pick another game since the Chargers didn't show up:)
jean
Why did they even bother with California? I could have told them that California is vibrant blue.
LOL!
Beryl, shhhhhhhhhh.....don't tell them that. Don't let them know they are simply wasting their resources here. :)
jean-That sounds good too. You can't go wrong with garlic. I have to say, the Titans are still undefeated after week 5. :)
leah-Your welcome and good for Albright. :) Some people are too free with other people's words.
Good news about Troopergate. Palin has said herself 'the high heels are on and the gloves are off!' When is she going to quit playing paddycake then? She has been so obvious with the smears, lies, and yes, sexism herself. I used to be pretty good at floor hockey. I'd like to pick up a game against her.
I see the Political Ticker had to change it's verdict on Obama calling out McLiar on his Health Care Plan. Earlier today, the verdict was either "False" or "Misleading" in favor of McLiar.

Why did they even bother with California?
I understand it originally was to be a fund-raising event only, but Palin decided that since she was there, she would also have a rally.
Palin is making Dan Quayle look like he was qualified to be Vice President - something I thought, even in my wildest nightmares, could NEVER happen.

On another note - like Kathleen Parker and Maurine Dowd - Peggy Noonan better watch out from McShrub/Stalin. She just may find herself being ousted, thrown under the bus and fed to the sharks if she doesn't keep quiet and stop criticizing Sarah Stalin.
iv dave or vicki-Do you have a link to the most recent Peggy Noonan article? I couldn't google it for some reason.
iv dave-Now I'm going to snuggle with my radiator. It's starting to get cool at night.
Have a good night y'all ;)
Suzi - enjoy the radiator....I still can't sleep with mine :( But he's supposed to start physical therapy this week.
Peggy Noonan was on Meet the Press this morning and was VERY critical of Sarah Stalin. There is a HuffPo article about it......you can read it HERE

Hello Independent Voter, Vicki in Seattle, Leah in Texas, Minnesota for Obama: It's me Bob from Vancouver.
Well, it looks like Palin has put her foot in it. It appears as though she's gone off on her own in CA and tried to smear Obama with the Ayers association during a rally their.
From what I gather, it was without clearing the off-the-cuff-smear with the campaign headquarters, and now she has unleased Obama's response with the Keating 5.
That is something the McCain camp has been hoping and praying to avoid. And trusting that Obama would be too nice a liberal to say anything nasty. But the threat is out there now. I hope the Obama Campaign and the McCain Campaign gets on the telephone in the morning to stop all this gutter politics.
It's my bet that Palin is going to be taken down a notch or two come Monday morning if not sooner. Her smerk at the podium when she opened up will be whiped from her face - I bet ya' We all knew she was a loose cannon on a rolling deck and would blunder sooner or later if she deviated in anyway from a prepared text.
No it was no mistake. Palin said it three times in three appearences today.
So as Independent Voter has pointed out Obama is pushing back big time. They've created a 13 minute online documentary about McShrub's dealings with Charles Keating, for circulation to millions over the internet.
The war is on.
