What is McCain's latest "senior moment", what does Obama need to do to win in November or whatever else is on your mind.
And please be excellent to one another. We do not accept name calling or any attacks on our commenters. Any objectionable comments will be deleted. Try to be civil.

What Palin doesn't realize is is that Obama has big feet and she is going to find one of HIS big shoes up her butt if she doesn't play nice ;)
Bob and Leah - I wonder if Obama has a pair of cowboy boots. If he does he's gonna need them because the shit is so deep over on the McShrub/Stalin side, he gonna need them.
Keating 5
Gambling with America's Future
Palin's address to the AIP
Troopergate
McShrub's ties to Ifshin
McShrub's ties to G. Gordon Liddy
McShrub's ties to Abramoff
McShrub's anger issues
The list goes on, but I think you get the point.

One more to add to the McCain list: John Singlaub
http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1008/A_shot_across_the_bows.html
Excerpt below:
John McCain sat on the board of a very right-wing organization, it was the U.S. Council for World Freedom, it was chaired by a guy named John Singlaub, who wound up involved in the Iran contra scandal. It was an ultra conservative, right-wing group. The Anti-Defamation League, in 1981 when McCain was on the board, said this about this organization. It was affiliated with the World Anti-Communist League – the parent organization – which ADL said “has increasingly become a gathering place, a forum, a point of contact for extremists, racists and anti-Semites.”

Nighty nite ya'll.
Leah - WOW! That man has so many questionable associations. How in the hell has he made it this long as a Senator?
I have the feeling that Palin is going to be recalled and McShrub will lose his next reelection bid. I almost can't wait until 2010. LOL!
Independent Voter:
I sure wish you had a name I can call you. I feel we know each other somewhat, so a first name at least would be nice.
But you are correct. I saw a diary in Daily KOS discussing each and everyone of the associations you list. So the Obama campaign can really go to town if they wanted to.
But I like Obama's message of "McCain is trying to divert your attention. The real issue is the economy. Trying to smear me is an attempt to take your eye off the ball."
Then let the surrogates and the blogoshere do the work of hammering home McCains associations over 30 years in government.
Seems to me though, the Republicans take pride in having a boarderline criminal record. Even your wife's or husband's criminal record or associations to anti-american anarchists is a badge of honour and will help your standings in the polls. And maybe even a little abuse of a Governor's power would improve the ratings.

I looked to be sure it was real, such a great story, and found the original in a couple of Norwegian language newspapers as well (let's hear it for the firefox translator plugin Gramtrans.)
In looking, I ran across a bb that said it had to be fake, no one would do that. If I weren't too lazy to register there I would have posted, No Republican maybe, that's the difference between the parties when you get right down to it.
The video piece -- the 20 minute interview with John Russo -- on the front page of this blog was good, enlightening and reassuring. I encourage everyone here to check it out -- no watching needed, it's all audio (except for the Wasilla backstratcher moment)

"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows Barack Obama attracting 52% of the vote while John McCain earns 44%. This is the highest level of support ever recorded for Obama and is his largest lead of the year. It also continues a remarkable twenty-five days in a row where the Democrat’s support has never declined by even a single point. The Democratic candidate has gained six full percentage points of support since Lehman Brothers collapsed to start the Wall Street mess."
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll
Jean, the first part of my last post disappeared... it was "I really like Rasmussen this morning too!"
Cheers (despite the market dropping like a stone again).
Watch for the Rasmussen state polls coming out at 6 tonight (3 for us coasters). Should be interesting to see where Florida, Ohio and Colorado are now.
doug,
I referenced the Battleground poll since I do believe that was determined it was the old peoples pole, yes I just made the cut.
The European Markets are really going down and they have a lot farther to fall.
The projections are not good by the end of the quarter.
Yep, I have gone chicken ****.
Cramer said that if you need funds in the next 5yrs,Pull it all and do Stable Funds or the Savings which you can get 3.5% and some CD's at 4.5% for a 1 year term.
Even if you pull today, it won't be 20-30% lower in the near future.
Last comment on this from the chicken ****.

Yikes Jean--I have to say that when I saw the market in Canada down 10+% this morning my stomach flipped (good thing I hadn't had breakfast yet!). But... we are now off more than 30% the highs of last year, and I don't think we will drop more than 40%. That doesn't mean we aren't going to have a long and painful recession ahead of us, which is looking more and more likely. People stop spending, governments stop spending, and the whole economy goes into the dumper.
We need that "NEW DEAL"!
Can Obama win Georgia? McCain's lead has narrowed to 7 points
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/latestpolls/index.html
and 538 has an interesting take on it
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/10/in-georgia-small-improvements-in-black.html
The gist of it is that increases in voter registration plus an increase in voter turnout will make Georgia a 1-2% win either way instead of the blowout it usually is.
doug,
I didn't reference my drop in markets properly.
European Markets is my prediction on that #.
They are in the 2 inning and we are in the 6th inning if that makes sense.
jean
Yep. Let's hope for a rainout--start a new game! lol
I really don't understand the financial situation. In my nightmare scenario, CDs become worthless, either because everything collapses or inflation runs wild...
On the other hand, with both Citi and Wells Fargo fighting to gobble up Wachovia, they must see some value there.
kaern anne,
Citi made an offer that was minimal and say that it was exclusive. That is why the fight is so big. Wells Fargo was fair but still cheap.
Oil is at 89.90 a barrell and is going to get lower.
It will be OK but don't plan on selling the house soon:)
No wink, can't stand the wink LOL.
CD's,savings accounts and Stable Funds in 401k's are what is recommended for those to retire in the next 5-7yrs.
You are doing good.

Plus, I went back and read Obama's economic plan at

Chris Matthews just went off on the McCain campaign's shift in tactics with Peggy Noonan as a commentator also. Very powerful "naming" of the tactics which is the first step to disarming it totally. No links to it yet but will be on MSNBC's site soon, I'm sure.
FEC Queries McCain Campaign on 'Excessive Contributions'
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/10/06/fec_queries_mccain_campaign_on.html?hpid=topnews
By Matthew Mosk
While the Republican Party is pushing the Federal Election Commission to investigate the possibility that Democrat Barack Obama collected excessive contributions, its own candidate is facing scrutiny on the same subject.
The FEC sent a letter to Sen. John McCain's campaign treasurer Sept. 30 demanding the candidate turn over more information about "contributions that appear to exceed the limits."
The letter is accompanied by a nine-page list showing scores of overages from McCain's August campaign finance report, including nearly $13,000 from Texas rancher Ray R. Barrett Jr.; $9,200 from an Iraqi security consultant, H. Carter Andress; and $5,000 from Joseph F. Davolio, an executive at a major national liquor, beer and wine distributor.
"Please inform the Commission of your corrective action immediately in writing and provide photocopies of any refund checks and/or letters reattributing or redesignating the contributions in question," the letter from the FEC's senior campaign finance analyst, Leah S. Palmer, says. "The acceptance of excessive contributions is a serious problem."
The FEC sent its letter a week before a lawyer for the Republican National Committee said the party will ask the Federal Election Commission to look into the source of thousands of small-dollar contributions to Obama.
McCain is truly off his rocker.
The debate tomorrow is going to
be fireworks.
He is being told what to say and really has no clue what he is saying.

Maybe I am wrong, maybe most Repubs can't read.
jean
Today is a great day. I just love this quote from Obama today: “We don’t throw the first punch, but we’ll throw the last.” That video on Keating5 is just the opening salvo. McCain mistook Obama’s kid-glove contest against a fellow democrat for weakness.
Here’s my bet. If McCain brings up “associating with terrorist Ayers” tomorrow, get ready for Obama to hit him with “betraying your country and your fellow POW’s” while a Hanoi. This is documented.
I am finally smiling about this turn of events. SETE.

Latest Rasmussen just out:
Colorado +6
Florida +7
Virginia +2
Ohio -1
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/latestpolls/index.html
The Florida numbers have turned around very fast!
...left out Missouri, Obama +3. The "no toss ups" map is starting to look a lot like the 1996 results (trade Arizona and Colorado; Mississippi and Louisiana still to come.)
And in Indiana
Obama +2
McCain 0
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FBI warns of potential terror attacks on public buildings
Monday, October 06, 2008
The FBI and Department of Homeland Security today issued an analytical "note" to U.S. law-enforcement officials cautioning that al-Qaida terrorists have in the past expressed interest in attacking public buildings using a dozen suicide bombers each carrying 20 kilograms of explosives.
Authors with the U.S. Office of Intelligence and Analysis added that they have "no credible or specific information that terrorists are planning operations against public buildings in the United States." The FBI and DHS analysts said they were releasing the note because "it is important for local authorities and building owners and operators to be aware of potential attack tactics."

Leah - re: your post about the "terror threat", what I found to be awfully amusing was the part were it said, "Authors with the U.S. Office of Intelligence and Analysis added that they have 'no credible or specific information that terrorists are planning operations against public buildings in the United States'."
"NO CREDIBLE OR SPECIFIC information".....hmmmmmmmm, sounds suspicious to me....I better get my absentee ballot soon so I can vote for McShrub/Stalin, ASAP! NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Soft - that is GREAT to hear about your ruppy (intentionally misspelled).
So did you all hear that Stalin may appear on SNL to spoof Tina Fey spoofing her?
I really hope she doesn't. I don't want to have to boycott SNL for the night. :(

jean-There is supposed to be something like that in his vitamin he's taking 3 times a day right now to promote nerve regeneration and he's taking prednisone to get the pressure and swelling off the nerve. I try to think of questions like that too because I've already had back problems and take a b vitamin supplement. It's a maintenance dose and doesn't cost as much as some stuff.
leah-It's a good thing this isn't communist country. Mike was saying Olbermann sounds like a dangerous adversary to have.
I hope everbody has a good night and especially to a Ms. Addie in Akron, OH.
Suzi,
I have a B-12 injection once a month, otherwise I get deficient for some unknown reason. The lab charges my insurance about $22 per injection.
A couple of my cats were on B-12 injections because they had GI problems which can lead to nutritional deficiencies, so they had to have injections vs. pills (which wouldn't be absorbed well due to the GI stuff). They got 1/4 of the dose I got. The vet showed me how to do that for them at home to avoid putting them thru vet visits.
You must have huge bills for the poor guy.
I am so glad to hear his shoulder twitched.
karen anne,
When I got B12 it was $50 for 12 shots which included the syringes in Mexico.
I had to take them every other day till they were used up.
My behind was a pin cushion but boy was I speed racer, that was the cleanest my house has ever been :)
I read someone asked McCain when he was going to take the gloves off at a rally, he said how bout Tuesday night.
I can't wait till tonight to see Obama crush him.

New Poll in Indiana +5 and one is TIE.
McCain is now at a +2.5.
Nice Day.
jean
Hey Jean the latest Gallup is +9 too! The negative stuff is not going to help McCain, since the only votes still up for grabs are mostly independents who don't like the negative junk.
And.. can you tell me who you are picking next week so I can pick the other team? That way one of us will actually win! :)
Now I know why McCain picked Palin. The other VP possibilities must have had some morals.
Doug,
Yep, the polls are looking good.
There is a chance for a free for all no doubt this evening.
Boy is McCain getting nasty and just downright disturbing.
Let me look at the picks for the upcoming games.
Talk about dreadful games.

it looks like McCain will win ALASKA and not much else! I know it won't happen but wouldn't it be a hoot if on election day Alaska was the only state McCain and Palin won! LOL :)
I am still holding out hope that Texas will turn blue on election day ;)
To paraphrase something on Yahoo, the electoral map is starting to look smurfish, Democratic blue that is. :D
A Nashville, TN radio station has a debate bingo game you can download-
http://www.963jackfm.com/Article.asp?id=915705&spid=
They have this disclaimer-
We’ve been told about an alternate drinking game that you could play during the debate, but our sponsors might not approve, so you’ll have to figure that one out for yourself.
They don't know jack, but they play what they want. :)
ka- I know things are getting emotiional before the election, but that description is really disturbing. I'll have to watch your link later, and thank you for asking about Sarge. It's hard to tell today. It's a lazy, porch, rainy day, the first in a long time.
I can't believe how "attack dog" like the Rep talking heads are prior to the debate (more than usual in tone). There is a real sense of desperation setting in, that they need to "swing for the fences" in every at bat... which usually leads to an increase in strikeouts (hey it's the playoffs).
The tone is quite chilling and has to be a turnoff.
suzi,
Don't forget it takes quite awhile for a stressed nerve to recover. How is he doing is terms of adapting?

Yeah, we are chatting but it is not a real-time one . Also, I have to enter a word verification after each comment.
beryl-True, it's not the same as IM?
Great closing statement by Obama!
McCain tonight: "Senator Obama says we shouldn't raise taxes in a bad economy. I've got news for you, Senator. We're in a bad economy right now."
McCain just over two weeks ago: "The fundamentals of our economy are strong."
Mr. McCain, an economy doesn't go bad in a two week span. So did you lie tonight, or did you lie two weeks ago? Either way, you lied at least once, but most likely twice.
In my opinion
"That One" WON.
McCain behaved badly and leaving early after the debate and not shakings hands will really hurt him in later interviews.
It was a good night tonight.
jean
WOO-HOO! When the pundits on CNN, Republican & Democrats alike say that Obama won the debate, Obama must have won the debate. (I don't watch CNN too much because I get angry too quick) Tonight was Obama's night AGAIN!
jean-Oh yeah, I noticed 'that one' also. Once again, I was just listening, so I didn't realize he didn't "reach across" to at least shake hands. Poor sportsmanship, among other things, but I'll put it nicely.
m in md-I don't think you're exaggerating if you state at least twice.
OK, after playing the "my friends" drinking game I am a more than a little sloshed... but another GREAT night for Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!
Early polls confirm that Obama won on both MSNBC and CNN.
doug-I'm surprised you can type! It's a good thing you didn't sub reformer for maverick! LOL :D
Without spellcheck I would be toast LOL! "That one" I agree will resonate tomorrow. McFailin's last chance has gone bye bye.
The verdict is in:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/07/who-won-the-debate-insta_n_132827.html
"The insta-polls, which provide viewers with a somewhat skewered but important insight into how each candidate fared say, by and large, that Obama scored a victory in the second debate.
NBC's focus group of undecided Pennsylvania voters had the Illinois Democrat winning by roughly a 60-40 split. Frank Luntz's focus group, over at Fox, showed undecided voters leaning towards Obama because of his position on health care. CBS's focus group of independents had the Democratic nominee winning the debate at 39 percent to McCain's 27 percent, with 35 percent of the respondents saying it was a tie. Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a Democratic polling firm, had a focus group of undecideds leaning to Obama by a margin of 42 percent to 24 percent.
Meanwhile, SurveyUSA interviewed 741 debate watchers in the state of Washington, 54 percent of whom thought Obama was the "clear winner" compared with McCain's 29 percent. That same polling firm had the first debate as a tie. In tonight's survey: 42 percent of respondents said McCain was too forceful.
And the CNN focus group of undecided voters in Ohio had the margin at an even wider spread: Obama 54 percent to McCain's 30.
A look at some of the specific issues that these Ohio voters valued suggest that they prefer the candidate who, at least on the surface, appears less on the attack. When Obama discussed health care as a right for all Americans, his numbers were through the roof. At one point, female respondents were dialing in at 100 percent approval. When he talked about using diplomacy in Darfur and pursuing Bin Laden in Pakistan, he again enjoyed strongly enthusiastic responses.
McCain had his moments too, mostly when he was discussing economic matters and propping up businesses to turn around the economy. His low points came when he was on the attack. On MSNBC, Nora O'Donnell charted how independent voters and Democrats soured on McCain when he said that figuring out Obama's tax policy was like nailing Jell-O to a wall.
How solid was the consensus that Obama scored better tonight? Even Bill Bennett, ever the Republican optimist, conceded that the Illinois Democrat scored higher marks."
Obama won big time!
Obama's answers were spot on and he looked very presidential.
McCain was grumpy, his jokes were not funny, he wandered around too much, and he was rude to Senator Obama!
O and Joe '08
leah-I would have to agree with your assessment.
aunt jean-I am also wondering if you're okay?
There was a woman who didn't sound undecided, but now I can't remember the question.
Have a good night guys. zzz
Obama/Biden '08
Despite the whines of Republicans trying to salvage an imploding candidate, the reality is that people vote based on liking and trusting a candidate -- not the minute policy details or political labels.
In two debates, Senator Obama has come across as the "cool" calm guy who gets what voters are facing. McCain comes across as the grumpy old guy who thinks that he should be President because he's earned it. In other words, to use fictional characters, Senator Obama is James Bond; Senator McCain is Willy Loman in "Death of a Salesman."
Willy Loman wasn't married to someone with $100 million. I would not cry too much for McCain. For Cindy, maybe.
Erica Jong GETS it!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/erica-jong/is-john-mccain-really-our_b_132838.html
McCain looks old and ill to me. He seems to have no circulation under his papery white skin. He always looks like he is suppressing a fart. He has no cool at all. Even though he tried to correct his curmudgeonly reputation tonight, he was unconvincing. It seemed as if he had taken a Valium and it was wearing off. I wouldn't trust him to look into Vladimir Putin's eyes anymore than I trusted George W. Bush. He's the bomb-bomb King, no question. Erratic and rageful, condescending and insincere, he seemed to be auditioning to play Simon Legree in an antebellum bodice ripper.
And why did he run from the stage while Michelle Obama and Barack greeted the folks? Was he afraid of retribution? Or possibly a hair transplant?
Or maybe I just mistrust men with comb-overs.
I am so impressed with how we see the desperate tactics McCain is using and how condescending he is being. Here's one analysis from the debate-
http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081007/NEWS0206/810080442
McCain seems to think TN is a shoe-in for him. This is shooting his party in the foot and not good for others in the long run like Alexander, but if he thinks that's a good strategy...
TV pundents trying to say the Debate was a tie is just an attempt to keep the polling close so they have something to talk about.
If you have to pick out 1 thing from last night that you think swings more votes to Obama, what would you pick?
For me it was not during the Q&A portion. It was afterwards. Barrack and Michelle took the time to shake everyone's hand, talk and listen to everyone, and take pictures with everyone. EVERY PERSON MATTERED! McCain shook a few hands and then couldn't give the crowd of Uncommitted Voters the time of day.
we need to keep working, and working hard!
btw, the Dow is sinking again today - just highlighting how hungry the nation is for new leadership!
Go Obama! your plans make more sense!
hey, can someone help out a techno-dork? how do you send PMs (or EMs) to someone here?
please and thanks! may the technology gods smile on you and all your electronics for helping me.
:-)
Apparently, McCain's campaign has a new ad up claiming that Obama just isn't "presidential." That ad ignores the first rule of advertising, you can't contradict what people believe if you want to convince them. Despite tbe nattering nabobs of negativism who want to believe against all of the evidence that the majority will never support Obama, Obama has succeeded in the first two debates in passing the "presidential" test.
With McCain floundering around, changing policies every two seconds, he really does not want to raise the issue of who is coming across as "presidential."

tmess, above you compared McCain to Willy Loman, not bad. But my son (8) saw him and said--hey, that guy looks like The Penguin (Danny Devito's version in Batman). I couldn't stop laughing! All he needs is the umbrella...
doug,
Do not be surprised if your son's analogy shows up in the news:)
It has happened more that a few times from this blog.
How ya feeling today after your game last night?
jean
Surprisingly well! And it was tough to keep up with "my friends" last night! Most of a bottle of wine and some scotch were consumed, but I was up and ready at 6:30 this am.
About The Penguin... I would like to find a clip of McCain the day after Palin's debate (so that would be Friday) with that grunting laugh of his... that is when my son said, "Hey that guy is the Penguin"!
I will try twitter when I get back (errands)... yet another brand new thing in my every-expanding internet horizons! thanks.
Latest Gallup just out, Obama +11 with 52% support, highest ever in that poll. WOW.

Well this may be my last post. Barring any unforseen circumstances, your new President will be, without a doubt, Barak Obama. But don't you dare take your foot off the accelerator.
From this point onward, please honour him and refer to him as Prsident Elect Obama, or President Obama. Michell Obama as First Lady.
Sarah Palin will be going back to Alaska where she belongs. I belive that her character has been revealled to everyone, and her image is now so tarnished that any hope of the Republicans to have her succeed in a presidential bid in 2012 or later, are totally dashed. She may not even recover in time for her next bid for re-election as Governor of Alaska.
John McCain will go on to retirement and probably obscurity.
This is a great little video of THAT ONE with the music from the show 'That Girl' with Marlo Thomas:

Also, DO NOT buy t-shirts from the thatone08 website. That is not an official Obama website so my guess is that they are using the Obama logo WITHOUT permission.
Official Obama gear is at www.BarackObama.com
purchases from the official site help support Senator Obama ;)

Bob in Vancouver-
I am not going to be nosy and ask why that may be your last post, but we have enjoyed your input here on the open thread. If we don't hear from you again any time soon - then my wish for you is to 'be well and enjoy life'.
O and Joe '08
Leah, the "my fellow prisoners" vid is GONE :(
Do you think it was a remix or did McFlailin' actually say those words?
Leah,
That One video seems to have been posted by the guy who does the New Adventures Of Queen Victoria comic strip, one of my favorites.
I get it by email, so I don't know how widely distributed it is, but he's been lighting into Palin for some time.
Doug/Leah,
I found the my prisoners video on another site. Before I say where and someone races to get it taken down, does anyone know how to save these things onto one's own computer?
The Repubs seem to be very good at making them "disappear." I wonder what is going on with youtube, aka google. Do they just take anything down immediately if someone flags it, or are they in league with McCain.
Here you go my fellow prisoners:)
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/10/8/1550/41356/348/615972
It worked when I checked.
jean
You can go to YouTube.com and search
mccain "my fellow prisoners"
and there are already a bunch of videos listed there.
Cindy McCain is AGAIN on the attack and yep, lies.
McCain at ONE point had some dignity and I thought she did also.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/08/cindy-mccain-goes-on-the-attack/
Well, now tis done and it is time for them to pay with history of their slime political ways.
They know it is lies, do you think they have the intelligence to be embarrassed?
jean
Thanks everyone--that clip is priceless! Republicans are indeed prisoners of their own failed ideology, so that is perhaps why no one reacted to it behind him.
I like this recap of last night:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/joseph-a-palermo/my-friends-its-over_b_132826.html
"McCain used the annoying term, "my friends," 21 times."
I guess I chose the winner in my own dringking game last night!
doug,
I admire your stamina, I wouldn't of made it, LOL, but would of been close:)
jean
Well, I DID lose count LOL!
"Cheers"
The voting problems now begin.

jean
doug,
How did you end up in the market and everyone (WORLD) is down???
jean
Here’s how I saw the debate last night. Everyone is saying that there was no game-changer. Wrong! John McCain has conclusively demonstrated that he is not suited for the office of POTUS. Obama has made it manifestly obvious that he is the one; ok, as McCain will have it “that one.”
John McCain had his Macaca moment last night when he wouldn’t take Obama’s extended hand. Intentional or inadvertent, with such a blatant crass display, his days in elected office are over.
Moving and wonderful video on Israel for Obama. Let it go viral!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2VFRt5W4FM
The "My Fellow Prisoners" was really said by the Manchurian candidate (McPOW) today in his PA rally. I was watching it on MSNBC live. The look on Palin and his daughter Megan tells the whole story. They went instanly from smiles to concerned frowns.
McCain is having flashbacks due to stress. Typical PTSD symptoms.
Jean:
"How did you end up in the market and everyone (WORLD) is down???"
You haven't seen my fund statements! LOL
But you are referring to the markets today, where the Canadian markets ended "up".
Our markets were very volatile today also, down 300+ points during the day. We don't have a crisis within Canada's financial system domestically--our major banks are all federally regulated and none are in any danger of failure, even though they have their share of 'non-performing assets.'
So... I am thinking that there is off-shore $$ coming into the Canadian markets because it looks in the near term that it will outperform pretty much all of the other G7 economies (the IMF today said growth in Canada would lead the G7).
Here is the IMF report on Canada, fyi:

Experience to share:
Had a couple door installers over to replace the door on the back of our house today. They saw our posters of Obama lining the living room. They had estimated 1.5 hours to remove the old door and install the new one. Well, 3 hours later we had a perfectly installed door and they wouldn't take a tip. They pointed to the posters and said I could give their tip to Obama. ;o)
Just a couple more Texans that will be voting for Obama.
Yes, the electral college will be above 400. ;o)
Jean, there are real values right now for US investors because the Cdn$ has dropped almost 10 cents to the US dollar in the past 3 weeks, due in part to a global rush into US Treasury bills. Over the next six months the Canadian dollar will pop back up again, partly due to the domestic economy's strength and partly due to the recovery in the price of oil and other commodities.
For those of you near the border (Vicki) your US$ is worth a lot more holiday shopping in Canada (but fill up with gas before you cross the border!)
Michelle Obama is a class act.
Cindy McCain is going evil and then there is Michelle.
Right now the funniest part is that on CNN Political Ticker the articles are right next to each other.
he he he he.

Emit-
Great story. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I think a lot of 'working' folks here in Houston are for Obama. My a/c guy that was here a couple of months ago, the man that fixed the bedroom ceiling, and the three guys that cut the tree off of the roof are all Obama supporters.
My side of the street has only Obama signs and the other side of the street has only McCain signs - I think that is very strange.
LOL - Leah, guess that would be the "Left" side of the street and the "Right" side of the street.
It is now Southern Cals turn.
Major fire but at least 7 miles away.
If the wind changes there will be no school tomorrow.
I am from Ohio, here we have smoke days.
Still trying to get used to that after 20yrs.
Evacuations could start soon, Not us, poor folks.
Cleaning house for possible company.
This is early this year.
jean
Hey everyone
sorry I haven't been on in awhile. I have been on an emotional rollercoaster every since the hurrican. Having to deal with to many things. Had a good day though. I know I don't need to ask if everyone watched the debate last night. Talk about rude McLame took the prize. Love the polls!!!!!! How has everyone been? AJ
Jean, I hope that extra company is as bad as it gets for you, I will also hope some of the rain we will be getting over the next week decides to take a detour to SoCal!
I was thinking about you, AJ. I hope you are doing well.
Yes the polls look good. McCain is getting nastier and nastier!
Aunt Jean,
Glad you are doing OK.
Doug,
There is really no chance, we are good.
It is the smoke that gets bad. Last time we had people for a week, we got real close:)
Their home was good and everything worked out.
Gotta think that way.
The kids see the smoke and are a little freaked out, the sky is pretty black. I show them the news and then they are cool.
jean
Hi Beryl and Jean
setting here watching Michelle. She's one nice lady. I can't say the same about Cindy [I know a word that fits cindy [BITCH] sorry that slipped. hehehehehe. AJ
doug,
The goverment of Canada sent us the 2 super scooper planes that are fighting the fire.
Thanks.
They scoop up the water from the ocean and it is amazing to watch.
jean
This is hilarious!
Not the video but the story of my dog.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x209875
I was watching this clip of Hillary and she talks really soft and then all of a sudden her voice rises -- and then my dog started barking like crazy cuz he didn't know what was going on!
It is actually a very good clip of Hillary.
Aunt Jean-
Here the LONGER video link of Hillary for you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdEXSzuUS4c
Leah
hi how are you? Loved the video of Hillary. Thanks for sending it. Aren't the polls great like you I wish tomorrow was nov. 4th. AJ
Michelle Obama: "It's not about winning and losing it's about making sure that people engage and stay engaged in the political process."
I'm not sure I got the quote exactly right (on Larry King tonight).
What a class act she is--smart, articulate, compassionate. Obama is a lucky man (the second luckiest next to me, 'cause my wife is pretty great too!).
Leah thanks so much. I'm listening to it right now. AJ
Leah
I love it when she's talking about Obama and after she says Obamas for it then John McCains aqainst it and talks kind of loud when she says that about McCain. AJ
leah-That was a great message from HRC. What kind of dog do you have?
aunt jean-Hey, glad to get the update, just being a nosy neighbor. ha ha I'm sorry it's been so rough.
jean-I noticed your state and my state are 2 of the 3 worst hit by drought right now. I can't believe I've seen a few people burning a pile of whatever recently. There's been a couple of places that have to get water in from other areas. We've consered water as much as we can for almost 2 years now. We just a quickie for the vehicle and hope the apples can come back and the "surprise lilies."
My Mike doesn't know who they're supporting, but he said the funniest bumper sticker he's seen said- Screwed '08
Well here is an example of the intelligence of the average American on the street...

leah-Ahh, sounds cute. I bet he/she is energetic. Sarge is starting to do a lot better and perk up his ears and wag his tail and takes his medicine nicely. Thank you.
I think I'm changing somebody else's mind about a Palin and McCain admin. I emailed her a link about the AIP homegrown connection, without the moose or the wolves or...you got the idea. :)
Leah
even though I couldn't answer all the questions on that link at least I could come up with several correct answers. That is a shame. AJ
Glad to hear you're doing better AJ.
Jean - you guys stay safe up there. Too bad it isn't down around SDSU. I really don't want to take my exam tomorrow. :(
And YES the polls look great.
Leah - the video of Hillary was really good! And the other's (the first American's are NOT stupid) was entirely too painful to watch, I just couldn't take it upon myself to go through any more of it.
Suzi - I'm SOOOOOOO glad to hear your ruppy is doing better :)
Dave what's up!!!!
I'm like you that video was painful to watch. So what have you been up to lately? AJ
Suzi
I read about your puppy and I'm sorry to hear it got hurt but glad that it's doing hopefully it will have a full recovery. AJ
iv dave-Thanks, it's been ruff. Bill's been cleared to start therapy? That's great. It's amazing that he didn't lose any fingers. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both.
I'm going to try to get closer to 7 hrs. sleep tonight. I know that sounds lazy, folks. You got me figured out now. :)
Everyone I'm headed for bed I have to babysit my great niece tomorrow [14 mons. old]. She's a good baby but very active. So take care and I will be on here tomorrow night. Goodnight! AJ
Dave
quick note so glad to hear about Bill tell him I said good luck with the therapy and to hang in there all good things take time.goodnight! AJ
Suzi and AJ - thanks. He starts PT tomorrow. I'll be taking him after my exam :(
I'm not :( about taking him, I'm :( about having to take the exam LOL!
He said the feeling is really coming back, but with vengence.....it's no longer "phantom" pain, it's real pain. I have the feeling that while he is going through therapy, I'll be out buying another.....eh um.....well you know mj.
Michelle was wonderful on Larry King. Her eloquent comments after the venom and bile spewed from Palin and even Cindy McCain reminded me of Proverbs 25:21-22.
"21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee."
I honestly feel that the reason Obama is doing so well is that he is remaining positive. He refutes negative comments and counter punches but he has yet to hit negative first. Republicans under-estimate him at their peril.
He is definitely not a whimp though. Didn't he say that he was going to capture or KILL Bin Laden? When I first heard that, I thought, "Dang, Obama can be rough!"
Finally a law enforcement official with a conscience:
From CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/10/08/chicago.evictions/index.html):
"Illinois sheriff: No foreclosure evictions on my watch"
Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said Wednesday he is suspending foreclosure evictions in Cook County, which had been on track to reach a record number of evictions, many because of mortgage foreclosures.
He said many of the evictions involve renters who are paying their rent on time but are being thrown out because the landlord has fallen behind on mortgage payments.
And how did the banks take the message?
The Illinois Bankers Association opposed the plan, saying that Dart "was elected to uphold the law and to fulfill the legal duties of his office, which include serving eviction notices."
The entire financial sector of the economy wonders why people are angry with them right now? Maybe they should do some reflection on what they've done in the past few years, and realize that the financial sector is NOT the little angels they want us to think they are.
Mike
Holy Toledo.
Here's a link my brother sent me about the world running out of drinkable water:
http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2008/10/08/biofuels_and_a_dwindling_water_supply/
I will redouble my efforts not to waste it.
I went looking for an annual use number for vegetarians vs. omnis, because I had heard it was much lower. I couldn't find it, but did find this:
"To grow one kilo of maize... requires between 540 to 630 litres of water, wheat needs 715 to 750 litres, rice 1,550 to 2,000 litres, and soybeans 1,650 to 2,200 litres, while to produce one kilo of beef requires between 50,000 to 100,000 litres of water."
Imagine that this is happening mainly in the swing states.
Hopefully the feds will stop it.

I’d like to thank those of you who have been giving of your time to the Presidential Campaign. I want to also thank those who have been contributing materially. Specifically, I want to thank the poster who commented on his efforts with phone calls; and the poster who commented about her traveling to North Carolina to volunteer. Everyone, thank you.
With your hard work there is now a good chance that Obama will win Montana, Ohio, New Hampshire, Virginia, North Carolina AND Florida. The only battleground state still McCain-lean is Indiana.
We cannot rest on our laurels. We haven’t won anything yet. Not till November 4th. This is the final push. The opposing forces are going all out. We must match them. The future of our country depends on this election. It is a cliché. But this time, it is really true.
Correction, Missouri, not Montana.
To this day I don't think Donna Brazil has openly said who she supports, but I believe this video clip says it all. (There might be a few hiccups in the clip, so please be patient)
http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1827871374?bctid=1842741065
Ruby, that was an interesting clip, and I'm glad I watched it. But I don't think I'd call it an endorsement of Obama.
Karen, I guess I read too much into it.
Finally someone out there is actually urging a "New Deal for America"!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/amb-marc-ginsberg/obamas-new-deal-for-ameri_b_133041.html
This is exactly what is needed to "lock down" the gains of the last three weeks.
Doug, I agree that Obama needs something to lock down this election, or as the pundits say "seal the deal". Perhaps this is it.
Hey Jean, do you still think 8000 is a bottom on the DJ? At this rate 8000 will be reached by Friday close... what a day!
McPalin is Terrifying!
Interview w/Naomi Wolf - Give Me Liberty
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XgkeTanCGI
Is she right or what?
doug,
Yep, and only momentarily below.
Had world war 3 with the husband because I transferred everything
and now he is quiet, believe me that takes a lot:)
His was the last to transfer and he had to do it because I am not on the account.
I have to say Marines Rock, the fire by my house is fully contained and it was on a Marine Base. Bless them.
Your son is younger and at the sweet age, want to trade a 15 year old teenager. He does cook well:)
jean
Jean, I have a 17 yo daughter as well. Knock on wood, we are negotiating the 'crazy times' very well so far. It helps that we play music together (bluegrass).
doug,
The other one is daughter and going to be 17 in 3 months.
Double whammy.
Want to bet on a 1/2% cut by next Friday?
Feds gotta show they will do anything in my opinion.
jean
Jean, the 1/2 point cut the other day in our 'bank rate' has been reduced to a 1/4 point cut by the banks in passing it through to consumers. There is a growing anger about this in the financial community, and given we are in the concluding phase of an election here right now I expect that 'something will be done.' All the signs point to another 1/2 point drop, very soon, so I won't take your bet! :)
But, who do you like this weekend!!
doug,
Come on, after last week I thought I could win SOMETHING:)
Been so busy I have not looked at anything. I promise to get back soon. Not today but tomorrow.
LOL I do wish that I was wrong about the 8000 Dow.
jean
Jean - do you really think it will be by next Friday?
The reason I ask is because yesterday people were saying, "this better work". Or what?
They can't get much lower. It is now at 1.5% - can we say mega inflation? What happens when it gets to 0%? Will we be going into negative territory?
Hey Indy,
I am glad Bill is going too therapy but sorry it is going to suck.
Have you checked into the B12 shots for nerve healing?
It worked for me and it was not looking good.
Yep, I do think they will lower it and honestly it will only be a gesture but the Feds need to show that they will do anything.
And Yep, it sucks.
jean
indy,
Just reread.
We are kinda at the "or what?)
Honestly, Pricing for mortgages are usually best on Thursdays before the hedge on the weekend.
Dang.

Look at the Polls. Real Clear Politics.

Like you don't have the link LOL.
Holy Cow, it shows WV up by 8pts.
OK, Things are looking BLUE.
jean
Jean - be careful on the WV poll. The don't list their methodology or demographics. Treat it as an outlier until others start coming in and confirm the same results.
Indy,
Thanks and I will watch.
Right now, I am going with the happy dance. There are not many happy dances right now.
jean
Me too, Jean. It really warms my heart to see that WV folks are voting on issues. I was really worried that McPalin would resurrect the ugliness that we've fought so hard to bury.
WOW! Exclusive: Obama buys half-hour of network primetime
Indy,
YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just had to say that.
Thanks for the info:)
jean
If you look at the comments section at the bottom, it sure does look like the Repukes are pissed that McShrub can't do the same thing. I think they're bitter and better start clinging to their religion, guns and xenophobia, because that's all their going to have left after Nov. 4th. LOL!
Perhaps all those who threatened to leave the country will either permanently take themselves out of the gene pool or leave the country for good. :) (My mother included).
The reason I said my mother is because I spoke to her over the weekend and I finally drug it out of her....she IS racist. She said (and I'm paraphrasing) "we are already becoming enough of a mixed nation and I don't like it. If we vote the man in office, we are going to be a race of the past." My reply, "what race is that? The human race?"
Trust me, I was so pissed. I finally told her, that she probably won't be hearing from me anytime in the near future. Of course, I shouldn't have expected anything different, she doesn't think I should be able to marry my partner either. But I thought there would have been some hope, she "claims" to be a Christian. I asked her "what kind of Christian? The kind that represents the KKK? Because I refuse to associate with racists."
Be back later....gotta take him to PT and get him some more "medicine".
well, IV, re: your mom -- "God love her"
has everyone seen the clip of Diane Sawyer showing Joe Biden the skit of "him" on SNL? He just cracked up laughing! He really is a regular guy. He reminds me of a friend of ours, who is coincidentally also named "Joe".
Obama is Ahead in The Entire World

Our leader is the most powerful one in the world but the world can't vote for him/her.
Pity!
Oh, and Happy Birthday to John Lennon ...
The commenters on that air time thread must have mush for brains.
It doesn't even shock me any more that there's no evidence of any rational thought processes going on in their brains(sic). I wonder what that means...
How much does that air time cost, I wonder?
Dave
Hi there I'm sorry to hear that you are at odds with your mother. No matter what she is your mother. My mother drives me crazy also but I just close my ears to her.
How did Bill's therapy go? I hope well.He might want to check into I believe Jean was talking about B12 shots. AJ
Ruby in Kansas
You were talking about Donna Brazil earlier post. That is one lady that I would really like to meet. I bet she has some very interesting stories to tell. I really admire as a person. She is so laid back but not if you know what I mean. AJ
Yeah, AJ. Donna is a lady with whom I'd like to sit and drink tea -- or something else "wink", "wink".
Biden kicked butt today telling McEvil to say all of the stuff he is saying in his rallies to Obama's face!
I love the Democratic nominee supporters this election. We are not stupid, we are not complacent, and we won't allow the Repigs to steal this election!
Beryl
AMEN!!!!!!!! NOT ON MY WATCH!!!AJ
WHERE IS MY LAWN SIGN???
I just got my order from the Obama site which included buttons, fridge magnets, and hand signs. The lawn signs are backordered.
What are they waiting for? We need them NOW not after November 4th!!!
Huh,
Well, McCain is going dirty, no doubt.
I guess others have decided to do the same.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/10/09/watchdog-group-seeks-ethics-investigation-of-mccain/
Just something interesting to read.
Talk about getting off topic. But I guess McCain is the King.
jean
I told you. The passive Democrats of yesterday are gone -- forever. We are fighting back.
I love it!
I just sent in a suggestion to the Huffington Post:
------------------------
Guilt by Association Network Diagram Suggestion:
Create and publish a network diagram showing all of the negative (AIP, KKK, John Birch Society, Mafia, Keating, etc) connections of McPalin.

Hey AJ! I hope your baby sitting adventure went well.
Well he attended his first physical therapy session today (while I disappeared to get him some more "medicine" - which he needed immediately after), and then of course he was "starving" immediately after he had his "medicine"....LOL so we went to dinner. Now his belly is full, he's not in pain anymore (well at least not for the time being) and he's out cold....LOL! So I guess he's doing ok. :)
I was thinking about the B12 and we both have B12 drops that we use as supplements (but not sure how effective they are as opposed to shots).
Oh and by the way, don't get me wrong, I love my mother, but I do NOT really like her too much right about now. And I'm sure she is feeling the same way about me right about now simply because she hates being called out like that.
