What is McCain's latest "senior moment", what does Obama need to do to win in November or whatever else is on your mind.
And please be excellent to one another. We do not accept name calling or any attacks on our commenters. Any objectionable comments will be deleted. Try to be civil.

What the heck is wrong with people.
I know, desparation, but I really hope these people who did this go to jail.
Make them REALLY have time to think about it.

Jean, the Republican Party is officially the party of LIES. I cannot see how ANY Christian can remain associated with them.
Hate responding to Pravda trolls, but the Jonathon Alter story is one that everyone should read.
It does not predict that McCain will win, but rather what must happen or be true for McCain could win.
Basically, it comes down to three things that must happen or be true.
First, there must be a flaw in the polls. The possible flaw theorized by Alter is that Republicans might not be answering them. (Some of the pollsters weight by partisanship so give that first condition what weight you will).
Second, McCain must succeed in scaring low information voters in this last week. If we get the majority of independents, we win. So we must keep on telling the voters the truth and combatting the lies of McCain's Rovian ad team.
Third, despite our great effort in registering voters, our GOTV efforts must fail. As has been repeated throughout this campaign, we must continue to work our plan. If we deliver the new voters to the polls, we win.
"I couldn't agree with him more" is one of the gaff's that McCain made recently that gave me a chuckle when he was trying to say he disagreed with Obama.
But then there comes the scary ones (maybe they were not gaffs):
Addressing the crowd at a stump speach with "My fellow prisoners", and this week switching from using My Friends, to "My Comrades".
McCain's PTSD is showing.....
LOL - verification was too close to paranoia (parioniz)
"Comrades?!?!" Oh, John McCain. Maybe he's been listening to his Republican troll.
Anyways there is some bad news in North Carolina, I'm watching the polls there like crazy and today's poll in the Charlotte Observer was neck-and-neck. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/408/story/283099.html
Hopefully this is a rallying point here and North Carolina volunteers will use this to motivate themselves. No self respecting long distance runner pulls up on the last lap, this is when you're supposed to put everything you have into the last dash.
No offense to anyone.
BUT you are not special.
There is no feeding trolls allowed on this website and you DO know whom not to feed.
PLEASE do not make things worse.
Sometimes SILENCE is GOLDEN.
But Jean - sometimes they get under our skin -- hehehehehe! Now to the serious stuff - what do you all think about the Pew Center Poll? I had doubts at first because it was so much higher than the others - then I did some checking on them and realized that they are one of the few that polls both landlines and cell phones. I'm starting to wonder if they might not actually be more realistic than the polls who still use the 2004 models as the basis of thier numbers because maybe they are getting the younger vote who primarily use cell phones. I'd be interested in hearing what others have to say like Mike-in-Md, tmess2, IV Dave, KA, Suzi, Beryl, Jean, Leah, Aunt Jean, Vicki and all the others think about thier numbers.
Mike in GA,
I don't want to get my hopes up to high so I'm lowering my expectation.
This is all so suspenseful. Every day something crazy happens.
Beryl, I'm with you. It is good to see the poll; HOWEVER, when we see polls like this we become too complacent. We will have to work as if ALL the polls show us 20 points down.
Jean
Sorry about feeding the troll but I had to exit from my lurking to reply to his intellectual dishonesty. Tmess, thanks for the greater detail - I couldn't spend the time at work.
BTW, I should introduce myself. I'm in Iowa. Perversely, I wish it was still a battleground state so I could see Barrack on more time before Nov 4.
I shook his hand on two occasions and was on the front row at one of the town hall meetings. I was the 'math guy' for my precinct for the caucus, went to all the conventions up to and including state. Wished I could had gone on to Denver but didn't have the money. I'll be in the middle of the final four day push. The organization here is amazing - it makes the Kerry campaign look like a bunch of kindergartners playing house together.
Good luck all!
Keith Olbermann just called Sarah Palin a FRAUD...among other things.
Another excellent "Campaign Comment".
bob-Hi, yep you're being a little perverse. :) Conversely, I'm glad McCain only had to mess up traffic here one time for the debate.
leah-lol, the kids got a kick out of that montage also.
The rest of the week I'll be posting in between tweaking halloween costumes. That will be scary in itself. Just 7 more days!
mike in ga-Hi. The Pew Center Poll? I'd like to think it's a better indicator of voters' leanings, but not enough to get complacement. You would think once people got a taste of trickle down economics and war baby war they would be ready for leadership. On a side note the crickets chirping from the Rep. base lately has been telling in itself.
Now I'm moderating one more chess game before bedtime.
I can't believe there's still a week of this left. I am going to lose my mind. The suspense is killing me. I can't stop reading blogs and watching news. This has to be some kind of syndrome. My kids are barely getting fed! Am I going crazy? And I just got the confirmation for my ticket to the Chicago election night event at grant park, but I feel like it's bad luck to even start planning...
I LOVE Rachel Maddow tonight... an extended football metaphor that validates the occasional discussion of the NFL lol...
The analogy of the Dems playing on the Repubs 20 yard line is apt. States that Bush won by 20 points are in play now. MconomyIsSound spending money in Montana and and West Virginia is exactly what you would want to happen now.
I am flying home today, first a flight from Taipei to Tokyo then Tokyo to Chicago. If you read of a UA plane crash dont worry..... I already voted!
Madeline Albright on Rachel Maddow was WONDERFUL. The "Sarah the Idiot" misquoted her and now referenced her saying that Obama is not ready to lead in a crisis.
Ms Albright set the Moron from the North straight and hopefully will usher her lying behind back to Alaska for good!
Simply, you completely misrepresented the Newsweek essay. If you had read it in entirety and comprehended the message, then you are indeed intellectually dishonest to cite it that much out of context.
I could be charitable and believe that you just misunderstood the thrust of the piece or chose to interpret it strictly within your narrow ideological framework.
In any case, it causes me to doubt the reliability of any sort of third party reference you might provide. I'm aware that I'm not the first one to express this concern.
Believe me, Stop, you could be contrary as you are and still be respected if you showed a genuine desire to conduct reasoned, adult discussions. Asking constructive Socratic questions might be a good approach for you.
However, if you continue in your present behavior, this is the last you will hear from me.
Time to look back in History. On this day (Tuesday, any Tuesday) back in April, the news we heard. Vote for Hillery (not digging Hillery her here), Obama can not win. Dean is an idoit, 50 state strategy will bring down the Dems for sure.
50 state strategy will bring down the dems. One of the many important factors in this race has been the success of a well run campaign. By "spreading the wealth" of the campaign to more "RED" states, the Dems have "shown the love". You see these people just needed to know that someone cared for them. The repubs had made this falicy that they represented people in these states. They put up store fronts that appeared to be campaign head quarters. But what we have learned, nothing was inside.... just like the government policies that they have pretended to offer them. Obama's ground game in "RED" states is overwelming the repubs. States like Arizona and Georgia, where Obama has not significantly attacked with ads, his message is still getting out with his resonding ground game.
Bob, our friend from Iowa -- don't feed the Stop troll. It is only here to stir us up. We ignore the nasty creature and the blog owners promptly clean up the poop they leave on this otherwise clean blog.
We love you Bob -- thanks for your Obama support in Iowa! My new neighbors are from Iowa and although they have not put up any lawn signs, I'm going to believe they are also for Obama!
Hey everybody
had a wonderful drean last night. I dreamt that I had written Obamas a letter and sent it to his headquarters. Anyway he called me personal and told me that he wanted to do what America needed and was very sincere about it. Now wasn't that a very nice dream!!!
Now if I would have had the same dream about McLame that would have been a nightmare!!!!!!!! AJ
A view into the "Base" Republican mind. For those who only listen to Fox and Rush, this is what their mind has turned into:
November 5th, 2008:
Many "Base" republicans will go into hinding. Sweating, hiden under their sheets, listening to the bombs (fireworks) going off into the distance. What has my beloved country turned into. Soon a team of SS (BO) troups will march into their home looking for any sign of republican momentoes. I signed Bush picture, a McCain bumper sticker.
If neighbors will turn them in, they will be halled off to re-education camps. There homes will be torched. Their wives will be back on the assembly line. Their mistresses will be put up for auction.
Hail Obama will be shouted in the streets.
For those who have made it by the first wave of checks, the will fear being forced to drop their pants in public to see if they are wearing the required Obama Blue underwear.
What to do, What to do! Their first attempt has not worked, that is to come over to democratic blogs, use user names like StopObamaNow and show people the truth. Obama is a Socialist. He is a Marxist. Half of him is a member of the KKK!
What to do, What to do! Leave the country, where to go. Oh know, we have pissed off the world, no where to go.
What to do, What to do! Need to hold our breath for 4 years, start thinking Palin power, Palin power. We will come out of hiding with a bang in 2012, Palin Palin. She has everything. Legs, 150,000 clothing, everything we need in a leader. Palin, Palin!!!
Aunt Jean -
I dreamt this the night before the first debate ....
I was the one debating McCain, not Obama. And for some strange reason, we were both preparing in the same hotel suite, the debate being in one more hour. It was obvious to me that McCain was being very jittery and sweaty. Finally, I had enough of it, walked over, got in his face and yelled "What are YOU being nervous about?? This is the FIRST time I've ever done this in my WHOLE life". And then the dream ended.
But you know what? Judging from McCain's eye blinks, he was still pretty nervous
kujo-Have you ever thought about satire? lol
Did anybody else see that video about Diebold showing the election results early? That should keep us motivated beyond the next few days.
aunt jean-What a lovely dream that was.
Mike gets to watch Inconvenient Truth for a class. Karma for someone whose eyes glaze over politics and then had to help present a debate and now gets to watch this movie. I'm getting a chuckle out of it. Just today, the nuts on supertalk were trying to say that none of the global change could possibly have anything to do with people and were almost endorsing obamawaffles.com and complaining about a community act that made banks give mortgages to welfare people. They are as bad as faux noise, but I want to know what to undistort on a local level.
Great little video. Gotta love Florida, where the rubber meets the road. Worth th 7:38:

Bob from Iowa
now that was a weird dream. AJ
robh-She handled that right. She had her hands full. Talk about voter fraud. Oh sure, they only get paid if they know who the person is voting for.
That's like they were saying on the radio today that people that are voting for the first time are poor people only after their own interests if they're voting for Obama/Biden.
Now I am jealous, I haven't had a dream with Obama in it yet ;(
I just pray that I never have a dream with Palin or McCain in it! ;)
I don't remember my dreams very often but one of the neatest dreams I've ever had that I could remember after waking up was a few years ago after studying Italian after three years or so I had a very long dream in the Italian language. That was really really cool!
Now let's all knock on doors, make phone calls, drive our families, friends, and neighbors to the polls to vote, and get Obama into the Oval Office!!!
Btw, I voted today. Not too bad of a wait in line - a little less than two hours (the voting machines were down for twenty minutes of it).
Obama '08/'12
Leah
I have to give you an AMEN on that. AJ
leah-I'll pray with you about that too. I dreamt Rapunzel in Spanish one time. That was after 2 years of high school Spanish.
'night folks
Suz goodnight pleasant dreams! AJ
As a resident of Baltimore, in some ways I'm jealous of people who live in swing states.
Consider this:
The last Republican mayor of Baltimore City was Theodore McKeldin, who left office in 1967;
I'm not sure when the last Republican served on the Baltimore City Council, but it was at least 40 years ago (I think concurrent with McKeldin as Mayor);
Since 1952, the only Republicans who have been Governor of Maryland have been McKeldin (1951-1959); Spiro Agnew (1967 to 1969), basically because the Dem candidate was more a Dixiecrat for segregation than a Democrat; and Boobie Erlich (2003-2007) because he fooled a lot of people into thinking he was a moderate (he actually was FAR from it).
Maryland's eight Congressional districts are now split 6 Dems and two Reps, and the First District (the Eastern Shore) has about a 50% chance of electing a Dem to Congress if current polls are anywhere near correct. The Sixth District (Western Maryland) has some village's lost idiot for Congresscritter, Roscoe Bartlett. Of course, Maryland's Sixth is just an extension of the 'Alabama' portion of Pennsylvania.
Maryland has had two Democratic Senators since Barbara Mikulski won election in 1987, when she replaced Charles Mathias, Jr. (the last Republican candidate for a national office I've voted for, but that vote was in 1974, a year after I had moved to the state).
Latest voter registration stats from the Board of Elections show that 56% of the registered voters in Maryland are Democrats, and Independents almost outnumber Republicans.
As you can see, Maryland is basically a one-party state, and thus it can be pretty dull during general elections.
Primaries, though, look out! VBG
Mike
KO and RM were outstanding tonight - as usual!!!
As far as the polls go, this is an extraordinary year, but few polls are really providing the true picture in my opinion. Traditionally the youth get excited, but fail to vote in numbers. This year is different. They know their futures are on the line in this election and WILL show up and vote.
Leah - I stick by my original prediction of 429. But some additional States have or are turning Blue that I didn't have in my crystal ball, so that might be a bit low.
Glad I voted yesterday. No line when I went in, but Texas so far has had twice the number of people vote early to this point than in 2004. Very good sign for Obama!
"As a resident of Baltimore, in some ways I'm jealous of people who live in swing states."
Gotta admit that Colorado is exciting right now. It was hilarious how many people turned out for O and how few turned out of McC. I just PRAY the crowds translates into real votes!
Over the years the one thing we learn we can not trust, the press. Not to their fault, they just don't know how to handle it 24 hours a day, make people interested, sound like you have something new.
Sitting in the hotel in Taipei, with nothing to do and needing yet another hit from the US election, I would keep cnn on just in case there is something.
CNN starts off with one new item. "McCain chipping away in battle ground states. And goes on how his attacks is have some effects."
The next news item "Polls have been consistant and have been stablized now for 2 weeks."
Hello! Does the right side of the brain talk to the left!
Deep inside the McCain camp.
Palin walks in on McCain practicing his speech.
McCain: "He will raise your taxes"
Palin: "Wait, didn't Obama say that he will not raise taxes on everyone making under 250,000, would that not be lying"
McCain: "Ha, thats where your inexperence comes in. We can not lie and we don't"
Palin: "But..."
McCain: "Let me tell you the secret. When practicing you look in the Mirror and talk to yourself. 'He will raise your taxes', 'He will raise your taxes', see when I talk to myself, the statement becomes true. So when I go out on the platform, I just think I am talking to myself. Thats what we call being a Maveric, now let me see you try"
Palin: "He will raise my taxes, He will raise my taxes"
McCain: "Not my taxes your taxes"
Palin: "But he won't raise my taxes, I don't make nearly that much and he will raise yours"
McCain: "This is a problem.... In your case, think that you're just reading a Mark Twain novel."
Palin: "This is so exciting to be a Maveric, did I ever tell you the time I built a bridge to nowhere?"
Palin: "Hey stop looking at my legs!"
McCain: "Oh... I was only looking at your shoes, I think you need some new shoes, yay, yay, thats the ticket. You need new cloths."
Palin: "Oh I like this. Is this what being the VP is about"
McCain: "Yay buying cloths and being Maverics"
Margin of Error bunch of BS:
Polls Polls Polls. Getting sick of Polls. I remember growing up when the only Poll out there was Gallup. Now there are polls ever day by 10 - 20 organizations.
Before we did not know better, now it just don't make sense.
Example:
ABC poll anounced today Obama is up 5 points, +- 3 point margin of error.
CBS poll anounced today Obama is up 12 points +- 2.5 point margin of error.
PEW has a poll, Obama today is up 19 points +- 3 point margin of error.
Ok let me do the math.
Then we get the other situation, just with one polster.
ABC anounced 2 days ago Obama is leading by 11 points +- 2.5 points. Then today they anounce another poll with Obama up 5 points and lead the news with McCain making headway out of Obama's lead.
What happened in 2 days. Nothing. Same stump speeches, same news blurps. How does the polls drop so much.
THEY DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!
Kujo, It's hard to tell if the slanderous robocalls and pushpolling is having an effect. Also the hate mailers. McCain is certainly blanketing the battleground states and even other states with those.
Oh yeah, got a mailer yesterday from "McCain" asking for money for the RNC.
Well, the prepaid return envelop got stuffed with a bunch of other junk mail - each piece with the word LOSER added in magic marker. ;o)
I now it was a little thing, to make them pay the return postage, but felt good to make em pay.
A word about Howard Dean.
As McCain and Palin spend their last week pigeonholed into a strategy of criss-crossing the wastelands of Wal Mart parking lots in western Penn instead of criss-crossing America in a real campaign, let's all take a moment of appreciation for Dr. Howard Dean. Three years ago it looked like he had the most thankless job in the country, but now the reality is catching up with the vision he was demonstrating in 2004.
The 50 state strategy. Introducing the grassroots to the internet. Coordinating the DNC with Obama's existing campaign. Handling the last days of the primaries and ushering in a solution for Michigan and Florida delegates. He has been exemplary. I hope this cooperation is a sign of things to come.
There will be a lot to do if Obama can actually win this election and things are in such a mess that there won't be much time for looking back, so if Obama actually pulls off an election win let's take a moment to let out a good Dean Scream of gratitude to the good doctor.
Good morning everybody!! I was watching CNN this morning and I was wondering why they said, in so many words, "Thanks, but no thanks" to airing Barack Obama tonight. Well, guess who's going to be on Larry King tonight during Obama's 30 min. special? You guessed it. JOHN McCAIN!!!!!
GRRRRR!!!!
Th-th-that's not TV we can believe in!
You got that right Canada! "The most trusted news"........GIVE ME A BREAK!!
I think New Hampshire has stopped waffling around with +18 and went solid Obama.
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/maps/obama_vs_mccain/#data
Just for quick reference
And Good Morning.
jean
Oh Canada,
Thanks Howard! I was crushed when he didn't get the nomination, but sometimes you have to wait for good things.
The day is just not going fast enough. Looking forward to tonight's 30 minutes of Obama.
I hope he uses the first 10 minutes or so going through what got him to the point he is at now. Unfortantely not enough people have paid attention to his development that will make him the best President this country has seen in years and maybe even decades.
Then the last 15-20 minutes he can lay out his plans for leading this country forward out of crisis ($$ and Wars) over the next year or two, which then the country can move forward to great prosperity.
Yes, there is HOPE!!!
Remember to Vote - Vote early if your State allows. Make em count em all.
CNN today that Americans would want to keep the health insurance they have with their employers because it would be better than what they could get with the credit.
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Adviser_People_Way_Better_Off_Without_McCain_Health_Plan?OTC-em-sh2
I remember Chuck Todd saying that on Wednesdays, the national polls always tighten. I've been tracking this assertion for weeks and he is right.
Even though the national polls have tightened, the battleground state polls have widened in Obama's favor!
National Polls mean nothing. State polls are the ones which are important. Obama is running the most intelligent race in the history of politics and he is focusing on what is important -- the electoral count.
WOW! Obama just gave a clear picture of how a McCain presidency would affect Americans while campaigning at Raleigh, NC rally. Back at cha' McCain!
Over at Pollster.com, there are a bunch of knuckle dragging idiots supporting McCain. Each day they jump on the one or two polls that show some type of movement to McCain and/or movement from Obama. It doesn't matter who did the poll, they just care about the movement. One day the poll might be Rasmussen, the next day it might be Gallup (and they dump on Rasmussen), another day it might be Zogby (and they dump on Rasmussin AND Gallup). It's comical AND exasperating.
However, they NEVER take into account the individual state polls. NEVER!
For the last few days, I've been trying to get them to answer a question:
What is McCain's path to 270 Electoral College votes. Here is how I post the challenge (that is still to be answered):
Many times many people have asked you to provide us with a path to 270 Electoral College votes for McCain. You have never responded. So I've taken the initiative for you.
Let's look at the McCain path to 270:
If he wins all the Pollster.com dark red states, he will accrue 123 Electoral College votes. Add in the pink states and he is up to 142 EC votes. Add in all the yellow states and he is at 227.
Now we get into Obama states.
If McCain wins all those that Pollster.com has colored light blue, he is up to 266. But he needs more than that to win. In fact, he needs 270 or more Electoral College votes to win, as a 269-269 EC vote goes to the House, and only the delusional think the House would vote for a McCain win. And if it's 269-269, is there ANYONE who thinks the Senate as a whole would vote for Palin as Vice-President?
With 270 EC Votes needed to win the Presidency, that means that McCain needs one of the dark blue states that has more than 3 EC votes (at least an 8 point Pollster.com lead).
Which one will it be if he is to win? Which of the above states will he NOT win? Will that loss mean he needs even more EC votes from the dark blue states than the one that he already needs?
Does he even have a reasonable chance of winning 266 EC votes, how and why?
Instead of all the BS you usually spew out here, how about being an adult, and tell us what path McCain has to go to win 270 EC votes?
I'm still waiting for an intelligent answer. VBG
Great Job Mike in M
Good afternoon Mike and Emit.
I liked that question to the McLame idiots also!!!!!! I've been fighting with some of the people in my family that is voting for that fool [nice word for him] I just don't understand how they think McLame and that dumbass Sarahcuda is even close to being ready to run this country.AJ
Leah, Sticking with my 429 EVs
Popular Vote - Going with 75 mil for Obama, couldn't care any less how many McCain is getting, but probably will be around 40-45 mil.
So I'll go 62.5% Obama, 33% McCain, 4.5% Others
Hi A.J. Long time since we chatted. Glad to see you and Leah pulled through the hurricane and recovery.
It's a BEAUTIFUL day in southern Texas. Cool 70 degrees and dry in San Antonio right now. This is what I moved her for. That and to help turn Texas Blue. ;o)
I'm sorry I forgot to say hello to the other good people [and very smart]
Leah, Oh Canada, Ruby in Kansas, Jean, Karen Anne, last but not least Beryl.
This is a beautiful day!!!!! AJ
Emit
LOL LOL I've always been Blue!! Even though I wasn't born here I was raised here I moved to SC for a year in 1978 then moved back here then moved to SC again in 1985 for a year then moved to Tenn in 1986 and then I came back to Texas in 2003. I guess I'll stay here this time LOL AJ
Emit
Oh yea I forgot to say they are putting my new roof on as we speak. AJ
A.J.
I was raised in a Red house, but always thought I was adopted. Didn't like either Parties hard line stances back in the 70's/80's so went Independant. Never had the same world or political views as the rest of my family.
Well until this year. I was shocked to learn that everyone of voting age in my family back in Kansas was voting for Obama except for my sister. She isn't sure she can vote for McCain, but for some stupid reason she can't bring herself to vote for a Pro Choice candidate. At least in my Kansas side of the family it's 4 Obama, 1 Undicided. In California it's 7 Obama, 2 McCain.
Leah - in an earlier post over the last couple of days I submitted my second guess of 309 and +5%. I didn't submit an original estimate because I did want to feel overconfident. Thanks!
Even though it looks like Senator Obama will be the victor on election day I feel as if even if he doesn't win he has won.
He has crossed so many finish lines that in my mind he has already changed America for the good. I remember back a couple of months before he accepted the democratic nomination I was praying that he would be the one that gave the acceptance speech on the anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I Had a Dream Speech'.
Well that 'hope' of mine came true and everything else that happens after that day in history is the icing on the cake. Senator Obama has energized the country like no other before him and has changed so many peoples lives with his inspiration. Politics will no longer ever be the same no matter who wins on November 4th.
And one of the most wonderful things out of all of this is that it looks like Senator Obama's integrity will be intact when this election is over. That is quite a remarkable feat considering all of the slime and untruths that have been thrown at him.
It's pretty awesome that people ALL OVER THE WORLD are hoping and praying that our U.S. election will favor Senator Obama and that WE THE PEOPLE will be putting a man of intelligence, integrity, humility, and grace in the Oval Office in January 2009.
God bless America and God bless the Obama family.
"As of Tuesday, at least 9,813,052 ballots had been cast in 31 states that allow early, in-person or absentee voting without having to provide an excuse. The figures are based on reports from state election officials.
Of those votes, at least 1.2 million ballots have been cast by registered Democrats and at least 731,200 by registered Republicans."
So only 1.9 Million of the 9.8 Million Early Voters are registared to a particular Party. I know in Texas I didn't have to declare a Party on my registration. But like the almost 2 to 1 advantage to the Dems in this case. ;o)
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/29/early.voting/index.html
In a campaign where the Republicans mainly rely on distorting the facts or out right lying, it's funny when a candidates own words can be used to highlight the real issue in the USA. From the latest Obama Ad:
“I’m going to be honest: I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues. I still need to be educated," McCain said in a 2005 interview with the Wall Street Journal.
A quote from McCain in a November 2007 CNN/YouTube debate is also shown, when the Arizona senator said, "I might have to rely on a vice president that I select…"
(The Obama campaign says McCain was particularly talking about relying on the VP for the economy, though McCain was describing a wide range of issues.)
A graphic is then shown displaying the question, "His choice?" — before showing Sarah Palin winking at the vice presidential debate.
ROFLMAO
Hey Aunt Jean!
Today should be a fun day -- isn't Bill & Barack in FL together. I hear that Bill then goes back to OH to seal that deal.
Pennsylvania, where McCain and Palin have been concentrating their efforts lately. Today's PA Polls:
Marist; Obama 55%, McCain 41%
Quinnipiac: Obama 53%, McCain 41%
AP/GFK: Obama 52%, McCain 40%
Franklin & Marshall: Obama 53%, McCain 40%
Looks like the more they see the Republicans, the less they like. ;o)
I did get one response to my 'McCain's path to 270' posting at Pollster.com:
From 'Keep VA Red':
@Mike in Maryland
Here is McCain's path to 270: FL, GA, AL, MS, SC, AR, LA, TN, TX, KY, WV, IN, OK, KS, NE, SD, ND, MT, ID, WY, UT, AZ, OH, NC, NV, MO = 252 ... then he has to take either PA, or some combination of CO, NM, VA & NH to get the other 18.
And my response back at him/her/IT:
Keep VA Red,
Thank you for the BS route to 270 for McCain.
Let's see -
Florida is (according to Pollster.com) at 2.8% for Obama today;
North Dakota is at 3.6% for Obama today;
Ohio is at 5.6% for Obama today;
North Carolina is at 1.9% for Obama today;
Nevada is at 4.7% for Obama today;
Missouri is at 1.8% for Obama today.
You think McCain will sweep all those states? ReallY? And even if he does, he will need to win 18 more Electoral College votes.
So let's throw in some more states:
Pennsylvania (21 EVs, enough to take him over 270) but where McCain is down by 10.7%;
or Colorado (9 EVs, short of the 18 needed) is at 6.6% for Obama today;
and/or New Mexico (5 EVs, short of the 18 needed) is at 6.5% for Obama today;
and/or Virginia (13 EVs, short of the 18 needed) is at 8% for Obama today;
and/or New Hampshire (4 EVs, short of the 18 needed) is at 9.3% for Obama today.
So basically, McCain needs Virginia (where he's down 8%) AND Colorado (where he's down 6.6%);
or Virginia (where he's down 8%) AND New Mexico (where he's down 6.5%);
or Colorado (where he's down 6.6%) AND New Mexico (where he's down 6.5%) AND New Hampshire (where he's down 9.3%) to get to 270 by your path.
How delusional and out of touch with reality are you? At boomshat's level?
The reference to 'boomshat' is my nickname for a Pollster.com poster who calls him/her/itself 'boomshak'. If you think a certain occasional poster here at DemConWatch is delusional, you should see boomie in action. However, the site admins at Pollster.com do not remove the festering male bovine droppings of boomie like the droppings of a certain poster here are normally promptly cleaned up and tossed like the manure that they are.
And as you can see from Keep VA Red's post, logic and deductive reasoning is a foreign subject to some of the Neanderthals and troglodytes at Pollster.com .

I guess you would say I'm not pro choise or pro life. Myself I couldn't have one. But I don't believe that a person should push their beliefs on anyone else. That is not my choise. If this was a perfect world nobody would get pg unless they wanted a baby. I think it's sad that they think that is the only choise they have but when it comes down to it it is their body. Now rape and incest is totally different. AJ

Leah, I have dual monitors here at work. I cut and pasted that Rosa to Obama segway into the marque screen saver. When it runs, it fills from one side of one screen to the other.
FYI....Earlier I shared how my family was voting, now for work. Of those that sit near my office there are 9 that have already voted for Obama, and 1 that has always just voted straight Republican ticket. No hope for him. ;o)
Hahahaha!
I just got a fund-raising letter from John McCain (I don't know why.) On the front of the envelope to send back they ask for you to use a stamp to save the McCain campaign money. I like others have decided to 'cost' them some money by sending a note back to them (withOUT my stamp).
I wrote:
Dear John McCain,
Please stop your unhonorable smear campaign. I am voting for the candidate with integrity and that person is Senator Obama.
p.s. Please send Palin back to Alaska.

Emit, may I make a recommendation for your sister? Since she doesn't seem to be a fan of either McCain OR Obama, recommend Barr. He is anti-choice. Just because she isn't voting in favor of Obama, at least she isn't giving her vote to McCain. :)
And Aunt Jean - what the hell am I? Chopped Liver?
LOL
Hello AJ, I'm glad you finally got someone to take care of your roof.
In case you all missed it, Obama WILL be on the Daily Show tonight! Set your DVR's.
Leah - That's great! Wouldn't it be nice to see Cindy McCain have to dig into her cookie jar to have to pay off a McCain debt? That would be the frosting on the cake for me. BTW my numbers are not as high as some of the others - I only hope my numbers get slaughtered - hehehehehehehe! I wouldn't care who wins our contest as long as thier numbers are higher than mine.

That McLame rally people was really crazy.. I was a delegate for Hillary and went I went to the convention hall me and an Obama supporter had a civil talk and we both agreed that if Obama won the primary that I would support him and of course the reverse helt true also. Well I've kept my word.
When I gave my word I didn't know if I could keep it but now I know it's easy as hell because Obama is a good man. AJ
AJ,
Have I told you how much you are appreciated lately?
Hey everyone got to leave for awhile have to go fax some papers to my insurance talk to you later. AJ
AJ, Bill's hand is healing very well. The doctor is talking about taking the cast off already.....BUT, not sure yet. He was supposed to see the doctor on Friday, but had to push it back to next week.
Have fun faxing....LOL
On the Race to the White House this afternoon, they will talk about where Hillary will be in an Obama administration. 2 thoughts before hearing the pundit comments:
1. Hillary can do anything she wants to do. The sky is the limit.
2. I love that they are talking about the next steps -- as if the election is decided.

I was watching Obama on The Daily Show.
Hopefully Bill's speech will be on YouTube shortly. I'm sure it will be all over the place tomorrow ;)
You know, I'm watching the replay of Hardball from this afternoon. And something I didn't catch earlier is that Tom Delay - CONVICTED FELON - stated that Barack Obama referred to the rights guaranteed under the Constitution (in a tape from PBS) as negative rights. Delay stated this as if it were a negative thing. The problem is, and I'm surprised that Chris Matthews didn't call him on it, is that Constitutional rights ARE called "negative rights" when you are talking about Constitutional Scholars. I'm surprised that Matthews didn't call him on it because Matthews himself is a Constitutional scholar.

well, I was working last night, so I came home to watch the video that was recorded - I'm with Rachel M, he had me a waving fields of wheat!
I have Jon Stewart from last night recorded, too. now I'll have to scour youtube for Bill speech from last night, sounds like it was good!
Hey, I distributed more fliers yesterday, thinking about tossing another chunk of change towards the campaign, too. And tomorrow, Monday, and Tuesday is sign-holding on a busy intersection. We aren't a battleground state, but by all the physical strength in me, I'm gonna do what I can, even if I can't get out to NC, at least my sister is all fired up and ready to go! (she lives there)
suzi and mike - so glad that your mom is doing better.
Emit that "his choice?" ad sounds hilarious! Do you have a link to it online?
So happy to see that Palin is the butt the best jokes. I hope she does what Dan Quayle did and tries to run for the nomination! Wouldn't you love to see her again in 2012 as the best candidate the Republicans have to offer?
It was just great to see you on that stage with Obama last night, President Clinton! All is forgiven. You are a good dude.
Raise your hands if you miss balanced budgets and a healthy economy?
I watched the videomercial last night , and I agree with most of you, it was very well done and inspiring. I sat my baby in front and he just coo'd at the tv the whole 30 min, it was fun to watch. Not sure what that means, but can't be too bad. He usually fusses unless it's some fast action sport going on.
Hoping for the best Miss Suzi, hope everything turns out ok. And for Mike, I feel like you do about wishing I was more in a swing state making more of a difference, but have to suffer it out here in So. Cal. Dreams of getting rid of the electoral college would solve all of that for me.

Hey everybody
this is a great video. It shows how big of a lying itch Sarahcuda is. hehehehehehe Now even though it shows Sarahcuda talking which I put my fingers in my ears when she was talking it was worth it!!! AJ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQhPIBuI2ag
I am really pissed off.
I have donated 2300 in the primary and 2300 in the GE. The Obama camp does not give me a ticket to the Grant Park event because I live in Indiana.
Yes I live in Indiana, Munster Indiana, a suburb of Chicago. I work in the Sears Tower every night including election night, about 5 blocks from Grant Park.
Anyone know how I could contact someone in the Obama camp to address this issue?
Keith Olbermann hits another Campaign Comment out of the park again! I LOVE THIS GUY!!!
Yes, Keith did another fabulous job all around. The problem is that Keith is preaching to the choir. We need others in the middle and to the right to pick up on and run with his points.
Rachal Maddow's show is WONDERFUL. Listening to Obama telling clear and specific things that we need to tackle in the next administration underscores my resolve to do everything I can to help him win this thing. Colorado is my sandbox and as of now, I'm on vacation until November 10th. I start working tomorrow.
Like Clinton said last night -- Obama is SMART and understands issues. Also Powell said in his endorsement,
"he displayed a steadiness, an intellectual curiosity, a depth of knowledge and an approach to looking at problems like this and picking a vice president that, I think, is ready to be president on day one."
We so need new leadership like Obama. We deserve a SMART President for a change.
Folks, I'm sitting here an emotional wreck. I'd solicit your prayers but I'd rather you pray that God continue to let every lie told by either candidate blow up in their faces. We know that Obama has been incredibly truthful but he doesn't get a pass either.
Enough rambling for now.
Kujo-
There is a CONTACT US link at the bottom of the BarackObama.com website.
I am sorry that you are having such a problem, but please don't be too upset - there are 1000's of little details that they are having to deal with right now. And not everyone is going to be able to fit in Chicago on election night.
Kujo,
I agree w/Leah. Please don't be discouraged. The glitches that we've all experience during this campaign pale in comparison to self-imposed problems faced by our opposition.
Click on the link, make a call or two to the campaign itself.
I wish you luck.
To make a long story short, the md thought there was an embolism in her lung. Now it just seems to be post op fluid that needs to disperse. Thank you so much for your prayers, and to be a little selfish, hope for her daughter to be able to go back to VA in time to vote. She is leaning Obama. We just need to show her that he does have an American birth certificate. She heard the bunk about that from somewhere. I'm exhausted but waiting for Maddow's interview to stream.
And, Mike got to bring an observer with him as he voted, a prince from Saudi Arabia. The prince also got to see a wild turkey for the first time up the road from our house. If only we had an extra room, he'd love to do an exchange with us. We're already invited to visit him when he gets married, which will be arranged.
Suzi, I'm glad to hear that your mother-in-law is doing well. Say hello to Mike for us :)
That said, how does the Saudi Prince feel about the "arranged" marriage? Or have you not been as nosy as I would be? LOL (And yes, I am attracted to Middle-Eastern men. Oh well, I have a Pollock for a husband....LOL...just kidding, but yes, Bill is Polish.)
you know, I heard the bunk about the Obama not having a US birth certificate (from our RECEPTIONIST, of all people - gasp!). I didn't know what to tell her till half-way home I remembered one word: "snopes".
sure enough, they debunk that rumor pretty handily. And that "attorney" who brought the suit? it was thrown out recently.
you can find it all on snopes!
www.snopes.com
and yes, I'll tell the receptionist tomorrow. I tried to convince her earlier that if such a thing was true, that the McCain campaign (or the Republicans) would have been ALL OVER IT BY NOW.
I don't know if you all have seen the photo slideshow on HuffPo, but you can find it HERE.
My favorite photos are him running with one of the secret service guys on the field and then the one where he is winking at a kid (very cute picture).

Suzi and Vicki,
Something to think about in addition to the fact that it has been debunked, is that earlier this year by the Democratic Congress passed a bill to send a clear message to the courts that McCain's citizenship should not be challenged. Yet Republicans have done NOTHING of the sorts to cross their party line talking points when it comes to Obama.

His Quote, what a jerk.
"If you are willing to work, you can find a job. If you are willing to work, you can find a job."
Maybe a few unemployed auto workers ought to have a chat with him. Or software engineers whose jobs Carly outsourced to India. Or textile workers. It would be esp. nice if the were all 50 or over.
He is an insensitive moron.
We are outsourcing jobs every single day. People are willing to work but the jobs are leaving the country to bring down operating costs. Losing jobs to people in other countries is bad enough but it is worse that there are no alternative jobs here in the USA.
The saddest people of all are the middle class and lower middle class folks who are losing their jobs supporting the Republicans in this time. Joe the Plumber (before he became a celebrity) is a good example and so is my BIL. My BIL is barely holding on to a low-paying job and his house is almost in foreclosure. He has no savings or financial safety net yet he is still a proud Reagan Republican who watches Faux News.
They are just so deceived and ignorant. They remind me of the slaves who were dedicated to their slave masters. They didn't want to escape slavery when given the opportunity to be free.
I hear ya Beryl. I just got my notice of my job being eliminated effective the first of the year. Everyone in my department will get their notices on Monday. I'm in good shape because of my Military Retirement and Disability, but the staff that works for me will be hard hit. Ranging from the staff that was just a few years from retirement to the single mother with 3 kids. Big corporate no longer cares. Most of the issues (with my companies industry) have to do with the lack of regulation that allowed greed to prosper.
Things will get better under Obama - Hope for the USA and the world!
Emit, Jean -- I'm so sorry to hear about the job situation. These are UGLY times and I'm so glad that there is hope on the horizon. New jobs! I was listening to Gore campaigning and mentioning the GREEN jobs we need that can't be shipped overseas.
Have seen some nasty posts claiming the Hawaii visit was about his birth certificate.
A) If you need to fix your birth certificate, that is something your low level G. Gordon Libby types can do. The candidate's personal presence actually makes it more difficult.
B) The guy's grandma is seriously ill. Don't the far right have any humanity left in their bodies?
tmess2, there was Repig blathering about Obama's birth certificate on The Caucus when he went to Hawaii. Repigs have no shame, and no brains.

Hey everyone

Aunt Jean-
I am very happy that you voted for Obama. And I am even more proud of you for looking at the issues and making your decision not based on rumors but on facts. I wish everyone in America would look at the issues and research out the truth for themselves and not listen to the rumors.
I have never been so emotional about politics than I have been during this election. I think that even if Senator Obama does not win (even though he will) people in America will never be the same because there has been so much change for the good that has already happened in the good ol' U.S.A.
Obama '08 and '12
Aunt Jean - Way to go! Many months ago I thought you were a cranky old gal. Over the past several months I have changed my mind and have come to the conclusion that you are really quite a nice woman. You've shown me through your caring thoughts that you have shared with the good people here on DCW that you have a very big heart and care alot about others. I'm smiling as I type this because of the excitement you displayed now that you have voted for Barack Obama. When I first saw your comments way way back - I never would have imagined that you'd support him. But we all have learned something from this site. I have actually seen the good side of the Clintons that I would never admit before. Hillary and Bill have shown a lot of class in the way they have supported Barack. Have a great day and bring someone else to the polls.
Leah - Hurry - please remind me again that I am not supposed to reply to the trolls because my patience is not as long as yours and some of the others on DCW. I wish there was a way to eliminate them just like some of the others sites do. There I feel better now. Thanks!
Yay, AJ! Every vote counts!
"I have never been so emotional about politics than I have been during this election."
Leah,
Your comment reminded me of this blog:

This is part of what I posted:
An Obama loss would certainly devastate over half the country because his supporters have invested more time and money into their candidate than McCain supporters. A loss will be highly personal and will result in grief responses:
* Shock - This will be relatively short-lived. Within 24 hours most people have moved to the next stage.
* Denial - Litigation contesting the results may last for a year or more. Unlike Gore, Obama will not have the option to concede due the grassroots nature of his support.
* Anger - Enough said.
* Bargaining - Some will leave the country and others will enjoin the litigation effort. There is a huge number of Baby Boomers with sufficient assets to do both.
* Depression - The mourning period will result in increased substance abuse for 6 months or longer depending on the actions of the newly elected Commander In Chief.
* Acceptance - About 25% of the country will reach this level within 6 months.
Mike in GA - thanks for turning Georgia pink and maybe even light blue this year!
As far as the trolls go, I don't see the trash much anymore because I use a gmail filter that sends those posts right to the garbage where they belong.
Beryl - I hope it will switch. Early voting has been very strong. There were 8-10 hour lines in Atlanta today trying to vote. I hope all the Democrats continue to have the same enthusiasm to vote no matter how long they have to stand in line. I even thought about suggesting that people who have folding chairs in thier organizations bring them out to voting sites to assist thier fellow Democrats. Maybe we could call it Democrats helping Democrats!
Leah
you're right people need to vote but they need an informed vote not just listen to the garbage that is flying around. I'm like you this has been such a different time in peoples mind.
It will never be forgotten that's for sure. I just voted not only with my heart I voted with my mind. Obama I believe will be the best thing for this country. AJ
Mike in Ga
I really do care about this country. I sit and listen to other people on this blog and I know for a fact that they care. Which makes me proud that we have come together. Not only to vote for who we like but the most important thing is who is best for this country. There is no doubt in my mind that I made the right decision.
I care a lot about Hillary I seen in her a caring for all Americans and I backed her for that reason. With her supporting Obama I know that I did see it. I'm just so proud to be an American right now it makes me emotional Why because there is HOPE!!!!! AJ
One more thing thank you for what you said it means a lot.
Hee Hee!
RCP just flipped AZ from Leaning McCain to Toss-up. I love it. He is risking losing his own state!
I'm saddened but not surprised by WV staying Red. They will benefit least by McCain who doesn't care anything about them.
AJ,
I admire Hillary now, she has really worked hard for Obama. I hope she runs in 2016, I will be proud to vote for her.
AJ,
I was thinking this morning, I am so proud to be a Democrat. Lots of us working for the betterment of the country and the world, to care for our neighbors, and having ethics.
Yikes, the good Republicans must not like the company they keep.
p.s. I'll cross my fingers so as not to jinx anything, and say, just for a moment, imagine the headlines on Wednesday -
President Barack Hussein Obama!
and our fantastic First Lady the descendant of slaves!
Karen Anne RIGHT ON!!!!! AJ
that sounds so 60's 70's hahahahaha
LOL @ Karen Anne! That would be a funny headline but would say so much about America in the world. Can you believe it happening in our lifetimes?
I'm so excited about what we should see with jobs and healthcare. Both my niece and sister have MS and they are struggling to get care. They could have been in Obama's infomercial.
McCain's plan is so pitiful. It is totally designed by the insurance lobbyists. His own advisor commented that is sucks.
"What they are getting from their employer is way better than what they could get with the credit.
The worse part is that we'd be taxed on our current HC benefits. McCain says that he wouldn't raise taxes on the middle class -- what does he think that is? He is such a liar.
(Yeah, I said that -- McCain is a liar!)

This is fascinating about AZ. I wasn't surprised about women, youth, AAs, & Hispanics would be for Obama but my age group (45-59) also want Obama. I guess those preparing for retirement are nervous!

Seventy-six Nobel Laureates in science, including all three of the science Laureates for 2008, have endorsed Barack Obama for president.

This is cool!
Take a look at FHQ's Halloween EV map:

.
Happy Halloween!
AJ,
Congrats. One thing that you were able to do that most of the rest of us have not, is show charactor. While you were/are a strong support of HRC, you were able to step above the primaries and do what you think was best for your country.... and be proud of it.
Congrats Again.
Kujo
AJ - Thanks and I'm Proud of You!!!
I know we had many, um, discussions during the primaries. ;o)
Can hardly wait to see the early voting number for the rest of Texas. Over here in Bexar county (San Antonio) they have had over 40% of the registered voters vote in person during early voting. In 2004 only 28% voted early and around 40% overall for the general.
Bexar county will be an Obama county, even with the large military community over here.
4 to go, then we'll know..... ;o)
Here's a link to a website that has early voting statistics per state:
http://elections.gmu.edu/early_vote_2008.html
.
Does anybody know a good DemConWatch-type tracker with early voting stats for all the states? Figured this would be the place to find one :)
For Michael Moore fans:

You can sign up to get his movie on how people who didn't get out and vote cost this country the last 4 years of downward spiral.
Kujo and Emit,
I've always believed things happen for a reason. Don't think for one minute that the good people on here hasn't had an influence on me because you have, everyone of you. There are some really good people that post on here. You have gave me the tools [links] to find out the truth. I thank everyone of you for that. Even though HRC didn't win it doesn't matter because I know now both of them want what is best for this country. So it's a win win.In some ways I think Obama will do better. He will be able to pave the way for her in 2016. AJ
Leah
I went to the link with the pumpkins. A lot of them are awesome. AJ
cbsmith42-
Read my comment that I posted 'above' your comment.
"He will be able to pave the way for her in 2016."
Actually, I think she might be good for VP in 2012, if Biden doesn't want to remain for 4 more years. Having a woman in the spot after 4 years of part-black male won't be a shock to conservative white males. She can then take over for 4-8 more years after that. Who knows, she might even select another woman for HER VP spot. There is nothing that says that 2 women can't be on the ticket!
WHY TANKS AJ!!!!!!!!
We ALL know you are good people too! AJ, did everything go smoothly with your roof?
I HATE San Diego as far as our Registrar of Voters. Yes, you heard me right. I would rather vote early, but we only have ONE location that we can go to vote early. I really wish that we had a lot more satellite locations. I HATE voting by absentee (mail-in) ballot here in CA because you never know if it is actually going to get there or not.
I was going to make the trip earlier in the week to vote early, but couldn't get up there to do it. Bill did however go and vote early.....yes I'm jealous he was able to because I won't be able to do it before class and I'm afraid that by the time I can get over to the "old folk home" to vote, the line is going to be extremely long. Why do I fear the line? Because in the four years we have been voting at this polling place, it has ALWAYS been run by those who are in their 80's! None of them seem to be able to see the voter rolls and it takes them 10 minutes to push one person through the line. No I'm not ragging on older folks, but come on, you can't tell me there aren't any younger people available to throw at least one or two at the polling place.
Another thing that I'm kinda upset with myself about - remember I said the other day (could have been last night) that they were showing my school with students waiting to vote? Well that was exactly what they were doing.....problem? It was stock footage from the primary election. In a way I can't wait until Tuesday so I can go by the vote location on campus to see how long the line is. :)
AJ-
I was going to do an Obama pumpkin this year, but I did a traditional one instead because it was quicker.
Last year I had around 50 kids show up at the door for treats. Tonight there were only 19 ;(
What a bummer...
p.s. I was also going to remind all the grown ups that showed up with the kids TO VOTE. But I messed that up because once the kids started showing up and I was looking at the costumes I completely forgot about the election and voting. Hahaha!
Beryl, I still say that HRC should be given Reid's position (at least through 2012) because Reid really is worthless.
Where would you suggest that Obama put Biden in 2012 if he asks HRC to take over as VP? I don't think it would be a smart move to replace a VP unless something really awful is taking place. This isn't anything against HRC by any means, I think she would do a great job (as either VP or Pres. - despite what I said during the primaries - have I told you lately I'm sorry about that AJ? - LOL - yes I know I was a major bitch - LOL - Bill agrees with that sentiment at times :)
LOL Leah! We turn out the lights and/or go out. We are staying home tonight......tooooooo tired. Plus I have 2 papers due next week (one on Monday and one on Tuesday) and I have 2 tests on Monday and one test on Tuesday. I swear these professors get together and see how miserable they can make our lives for at minimum 3 weeks out of the semester.
Leah
that's ok I gave him double thought tonight!!! AJ
Indy-
Hillary will not get Reid's job. There are way too many other senators with seniority in the senate.
Besides it is not the job of the president to pick the leader of the senate. The majority party of the senate is who picks the senate leader.
Dave
yes everything went well with my roof they did it in one day and left my yard very clean! Not only that they were sweet looking or at least 2 of them were.I loved watching them. So strong !!!!!! AJ
[ no not smell] LOL LOL
