Talk about jumping ship:)

“I wanted to see the next vice president of the United States,” said Josh Simmons, Gators for McCain chairman.

Simmons said he voted for Obama about two weeks ago.

“I’ve seen a different John McCain than the one I signed up to work for,” he said.

Simmons said he submitted his resignation Sunday night and will no longer be chairman for the group, which has more than 1,000 members.

“I expect them to be incredibly pissed off,” he said.

Texas early voting finished up on 10/31.

Overall, 42% voted (39.55% in person).

In 2004 Texas saw 56% voted in the General (but only 29% was via early voting).

So will the 13% increase in early voting translate in an upset - turning the State Blue?

You Betcha. ;o)

(LOL word verification is hotte)

Why would Spunky not release her medical records? Well, assuming she doesn't have a serious current problem, as that seems unlikely:

(1) past abortion
(2) venereal disease
(3) something else I can't think of that would bother her family values(sic) crowd.

LOL Jean! Yep, movin' in with p'd ant.

Jean - schools going well. I had everything come down on me last week and the first part of this week. I had a paper due on Thursday this last week, a paper due today and one due tomorrow. Had a test today and have another exam first thing tomorrow morning. UGH! I know I did pretty well on the papers and today's test, and believe I'm prepared for tomorrow's test. School has been the best release for me lately when it comes to getting away from the campaign.

Bill is doing better and last week's dr. appointment was rescheduled to this week. The doctor wanted to reschedule it for tomorrow and I said, OH HELL NO!!!!!!!!!! So it is going to be on Wednesday afternoon. This way I don't go nuts waiting for the polls to close. I will be voting right after school. Hopefully the line won't be too terribly long. I have the feeling I will be waiting quite a long time, as I mentioned last week, at my polling place they only seem to find 80+ year olds that can't see for #### and it takes forever for them to find you on the voter roll.

I am beginning to hate Keith Olberman. He is putting words into Obama’s mouth saying that he is mocking McCain. Mock McCain if you want to, but do not fudge the words and make them come out of Obama’s mouth. There are low information voters who may not get the irony and think that Obama actually said those words in that context. He is doing this on the eve of a most critical election.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

I find nothing redeeming in tonight’s Countdown. To splice tape and video and make it appear that a presidential candidate is saying despicable words he did not, and to do so on the eve of the election is at least journalist malpractice. Sorry for the late message (was busy today and just got to DemConWatch Open Thread), but here's some info on what Baracuda was discussing about coal:

On January 17, the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle had a discussion with Senator Obama. They taped the discussion and put it up on their web site. There is no explanation from Baracuda as to why the McPhailin campaign is bringing the topic up now, but they apparently just found out about the recording, and are lying their asses off about it.

Here's the Chron's November 3 editorial on this subject, and includes a link to the recording:

One of my favorite places to celebrate New Years is at Disney World.

If you go to epcot, at about 11:20 they start the celebration. They first do there usual firework, light and music show. Then they start the the New Years celebration (around 11:45) by going across each country in order of time zone. So Japan first, then China ... With each you get a little flavor of their culture. When they get to the US it is 10 seconds before midnight and the count down begins.

I think it would of been fun for Obama to end up at DixVille at 11:00 and have a little rally, then the people could leave and walk to the polls. :)

My voting experience this morning was smoother than I had feared. My polling station was busier than usual but my station is divided into several voting precincts. I removed the stub, fed my ballot into the optical scanner and slid the stub into the slot. Out of the polling station by 9:40. This is the first time I ever used a paper ballot. I declined using computer this time. I want to be certain that there will be a paper trail of my vote.

So I guess Leah & Woodland Sprite are my proxies from the early group, and Aunt Jean and Indy are my proxies from the October entries.

I will say that with 2.6 million early votes in NC split about 51/30/19 between Dems, Reps, and Independents (only 3.6 million total votes were cast here in '04) I still have a good feeling about NC turning blue even with recent polls showing a dead heat.

Just got back from voting. From the time I entered the school where the precinct votes to when I left was about 10 minutes. No line at all inside or outside.

Short ballot here in the City (state elections in 2010, city in 2011):

President
Congressperson
Vote up or down 8 Circuit Court judges
Vote up or down 2 Appeals Court judges
Two state Constitutional questions
16 city questions (mostly bond issues)

Approximately 1200 registered voters in the precinct, about 400 of which had voted by shortly after noon (EST). There has been a steady flow of voters according to the poll workers, no real peaks and valleys. Eight voting machines, and when I voted, the seven other machines had voters.

They are expecting better than 80% turnout in the precinct, and at least that % in the city as a whole. If this happens, it should be a massive vote total for Obama from Baltimore City!!

Matt/Oreo - Can either of you tell me the plans for DCW after the elections? Do you plan on keeping the site active? I personally would hate to see you close it down!

Independent Voter said...

OOPS! My bad, you're right Leah. Sorry!

RobH said...

fivethirtyeight.com has the BEST scorecard on its front sheet posted at 6PM. Five colums that allow the easy visual switch from "lean" to "called".

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Mike in GA-

Oreo and Matt are not watching the Open Thread right now .. they are busy with election results.

This is what Matt said on the front page of DCW earlier today:

DemConWatch hits 4 Million visits

Today DemConWatch received our 4 Millionth visit. We just want to thank all our loyal readers for taking time to stop and read our little corner of the web. We know there are a lot of places you can go for political news, numbers, and opinion, and we appreciate it that you spend some of your time with us.

We hope you'll continue to visit after tonight's election. We'll be covering the transition, the inauguration, detailed early looks at the 2010 Senate races, and, of course, the race to host the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

THANKS!

-The DCW family

Hey all if you like everything (numbers) on one page - try this link with AOL Elections 2008 - http://news.aol.com/elections/2008/president

RobH said...

Sorry make that nine columns (five for each side from tossup to called (with the overlap at tossup.)

Very easy and instant comprehension that marries individual states with tabulated totals.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Here's a good map you can scroll over to see the results:

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! Anybody else as ANXIOUS as I am?

Mike in Maryland said...

Pollster.com (http://pollster.com/) has a map on the front page. Scroll over an individual state, and it will tell you which of the networks* has called the state for whichever candidate, estimated result and pollster trend. They also will tint the state light blue or light red if not all networks call, but those that have called agree. If disagreement, the state will be colored yellow.

*Networks are:
ABC
CBS
CNN
Faux
NBC
AP

Bradley what!??!? So far... although it is ridiculously early... Obama appears to be performing better in every single state than the polls said he would. Again, a little too early, but I don't care...

I TOLD YOU SO!

Mike in Maryland said...

One early indication:

Vigo County (Terre Haute) in Indiana is considered a 'bellweather' county - whoever has won Vigo in every election since 1892 (except 2 elections) is who has won the EC.

The Indianapolis Star right now is indicating that with more than 90% of the vote counted, it is:
Obama - 56.3
McLameBrain - 42.5

Indy,
YES.

My son already got a text from a friend saying obama is losing and is freaking.

Very few votes are in I told him.

He can't but I am having a cocktail.

jean

Independent Voter said...

Jean - you are a better parent than I would be. I'd be having a cocktail with him.

Karen Anne said...

jean/kujo,

this makes me wish I could drink (can't, sends my heart nuts.) Maybe I will go pull up some more wall-to-wall carpet or something (doing number on house.)

Hard to tell from early returns what is going on. I remember that you can't just scale up from partial results for a state to the state as a whole, because there can be a lot of variation across a state in where candidates are the strongest.

RobH said...

I'm feeling very nostalgic tonight. It's been a long road.

Hey Leah, do you remember when Ed Iglehart nominated you for Secretary of State of this thread...... back in March?

Remember that slug name "Jim" from Texas??

iv dave-Feel free to bitch away later. The kids will be in bed by 9p.m. They are playing yatzee right now. They asked us to wake them up when Obama is called the winner. We'll be glad to this time. :)

What's up with VA so far? Are the counting the real American precints first? :)

Sarge is doing good on 3 legs. He got home an hour ago.

Obama has overtaken the pop. vote total already. :) I know, that only counts in horseshoes. It's still pretty to see.

suzihussein22 said...

robh-Yeah. I hope we hear from some of them. I noticed ed posting on BBC.

Independent Voter said...

We should be seeing a HUGE influx of Electoral Votes coming Obama's way in about 6 minutes.

Suzi, I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO glad to hear he is doing well on 3 legs. I hope he continues to do well. And YES, the Pop vote does look great!

For anyone wanting to experience some rich schadenfruede tonight, you may want to tune into FOX tonight. Major Garrett just reported that while "they don't want to call anything just yet" the Obama ground team in PA reports they met or exceeded every turnout target and PA will not be close, and also predict a win in INDIANA.

Whoohoooooo

Independent Voter said...

Something looks REALLY fishy in Desoto County however. It shows that McCain has received 100% and Obama 0% of the vote with 47% of precincts reporting. This with an African American population of about 40% (2004).

Pablo said...

Tristen is stoked and going gaga at the screen. Not sure what it is, probably just all the bright colors, but I've got to believe it is good luck. Gonna have a beer and try not to sweat this out.

Independent Voter said...

LOL Robh, of course they don't want to call it.....they're a bunch of morons.

apissedant said...

Crap Dave, why must they always steal votes? I have never seen 100% anywhere ever.

apissedant said...

I win Mike ;)

apissedant said...

We're missing most of Fairfax, a large portion of Fairfax city, Arlington, Alexandria, and Newport News, Hampton, and Norfolk. These are all BIG areas, and BIG Democrat areas.

To give you a bell weather... although in Northern Virginia, Louden County is a rural area that ALWAYS goes Republican. It is fully counted, and Obama won 51 to 49. Virginia is BLUE. :)

Independent Voter said...

WHEW! DeSoto county has now been updated.

RobH said...

The FOX exit polls for PA are awesome. A total spanking.

In every category execpt White Catholics, which only went for McCain 51:49. A crushing.

I'm getting a really perverse pleasure watching FOX tonight. I think I need to go back to MSNBC or CNN.

Karen Anne said...

Leah, for a few minutes there, Texas was light blue :-)

apissedant said...

I called Loudoun early, my bad, they're only 10% reported. He did win Mannassas though, which is a toss-up area... and he won by about 7%.

I just had a sobering moment... I feel the need to share it.

apissedant said...

Dave,
that looks more logical. Did Obama just win Indiana?

Joshua said...

No offense, RobH, but nobody wants to hear about Foxx. If you want to watch Foxx, fine. But keep it to yourself.

Kujo said...

Apissedant,

Where did you hear about Indiana?

Kujo said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
apissedant said...

I didn't hear about Indiana, just watching MSNBC and looking at Washington Post and MSNBC. The numbers are still technically close... but they're missing huge pockets (of blue) and lost a lot of, "solid" Republican areas. Seems they're being more cautious than I would.

jean said...

Just want to say thanks to everyone.

I don't have to many to express my excitement to, in reference to this election, or get INTELLIGENT RESPONSES FROM :)

Tom Delay is explaining all the damage that Democrats are going to destroy our economy. Why is Tom Delay on MSNBC?

What does Tom Delay think of the economy HE created through HIS control? Is this the definition of success?

RobH said...

Hey AF&O:

Bite me.

I'm tried and true, and have been here since March. Don't tell me to keep something to myself. If I want schandenfruede, I'll have schadenfruede. Who named you the PC police?

Let's celebrate, in every way we can. And if that means highlighting FOX's pain, so be it.

suzihussein22 said...

jean-I hear you. Your welcome. This has been a welcome refuge you could say.

Independent Voter said...

p'd ant - I agree. Why even give that douchebag any airtime whatsoever.

Pablo said...

I can smell the love in the air

apissedant said...

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of calling criminals and crooks, "leader" or "congressman" and calling on him for intelligent counsel. That man should never be on any TV unless he's in handcuffs... or it is FOX news.

Mike in Maryland said...

SuziH,

Any particular place on BBC that you saw Ed posting? I want to find that guy, and close a loop with him.

Joshua said...

RobH, of course you are free to post as you wish. I am only asking you to be considerate. I go out of my way to avoid Foxx. I come here often and it is very jarring on my nerves to find someone prancing around giving Foxx free publicity. I am asking you to consider the nerves of some readers here who consider Foxx Satan’s mouthpiece.

Virginia is now within 7,000 votes. This isn't over until Virginia turns blue.

apissedant said...

LOL, I think my 375 is going to be too high, and my 317 will be too low. Darn. Maybe I'll hit it on the mark with my 54%.

Independent Voter said...

Ok, I just have to say it, just to make fun of Joe McCain! Come ON Communist Country FAKE Virginia! LOL

Give us the win!

Independent Voter said...

I think we all need to give a shout out to Senator Clinton for all her hard work. She deserves this win just as much as the rest of us. She has worked so hard to get Obama elected. So, again, I'm giving a shout out to Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

apissedant said...

Hillary did well. The democrats came together and made me proud. The infighting stopped, because they realized we couldn't afford to let Republicans to have control again.

Obama is up 8,000 votes in Virginia.

suzihussein22 said...

iv dave-I'm sharing your sentiments. :)

apissedant said...

10,000 votes in Virginia. First biracial President, first time Virginia voted blue since civil rights, first time democrats controlled both houses and the Presidency since 1994.

Unfortunately in order to make those firsts, our country had to slip into trash due to Republican rule, giving us a whole bunch of other firsts, that aren't so great.

Peace to you, and no more references to the beast.

RobH said...

Leah,

Loved your post just now. When is the last time random American's could be heard stating freely "I'm so proud....."?

I read an interesting thread on Talking Points Memo this AM where someone posted:

"I'm sitting in my office in London right now, and wish I could come vote for Obama. Welcome back America. We missed you."

How awesome is that? The string of responses to that from American posters, waas really pignant.
