LMAO AJ! Shoot! I never could hang until 6:30am (well that depends on if I was able to get a nap in the afternoon.) I remember when I used to work for Visa and had a shift that went from 3-9am. Don't get me wrong, I loved the shift because as one of my incentives I was paid for 8 hours instead of 6, and then any overtime was double-time instead of the normal time and a half. But my ass was in bed by 6pm to be at work at 3am.

I thought you would like hearing that Dean was stepping down....your day must just be getting better and better...LOL

Ok, I have to admit, I'm watching Greta Van Sustren's "On the Record" interview of Sarah Palin. I'm really kind of feeling bad for her...again this is not to say that I agree with her policies by any means. I'm kind of glad that the McCain campaign didn't unleash the Sarah Palin that is in this interview.

She's actually coming across as...dare I say it.....um..... actually human. I really have the feeling that if she represented herself on the campaign trail the way she did tonight, the results may have very well could have turned out differently. Had she not acted like the divisive figure that she did during the campaign, I truly think a lot more women would have liked her. With that said, I personally think her speaking out tonight is simply her way of positioning herself for a future run.

After all, by the time I met him, he had already done the whole going out every weekend thing and had gotten bored with it. Of course, he was also a major trollup when we met...LOL! I still call him my little trollup (even though he is no longer one.)

AJ, Although I agree with you on that, the problem isn't whether she is intelligent enough to hold the office she was running for, there is a remedy to ignorance, it's education....she has 4 years to educate herself.

The interview is at a commercial right now.....if you switch over to fox news channel you might be able to catch what Palin and Obama talked about while on the campaign trail. Evidently he called her in the middle of the campaign.

suzihussein22 said...

So Bill's the trollup. That makes you the reformer, like Palin...I'm going to duck now. If we were in the same room, you would throw something at me. I don't think 4 years for some people is long enough to learn what they need to run this country. AJ

Independent Voter said...

Never mind, all he said to her was "good luck, but not too much luck."

Anyway, what I was going to say before I rudely interrupted my last post was that we have way too many STUPID people voting who wants someone JUST LIKE THEM. I'm sorry, I do NOT want someone just like me, I want someone that is MUCH more intelligent than I. We would ALL be much better off if these people would stop seeking someone as dumb as they are.

I want the ELITE candidate, provided that they aren't in the position they are in because of their entitlement - like Bush and McCain. Bush - because of his father and his legacy and McCain because of his father and grandfather being high ranking military men. Bush was a below average student. McCain was WELL below average, 894th out of 899 students.

Oh and YES, I was the reformer for him. Prior to me all of his relationships failed within 3 years, some within 1 year.

I think the main reason we have made it work as well as we have is because we didn't meet in a bar (like all of his prior relationships). We met at a party that a mutual friend of ours had in a park (that didn't allow alcohol on the premises). So basically our relationship was never based on sex....in fact we dated for 6 months before having sexual contact. That's not saying we didn't sleep together, just no sexual contact. That was mainly my influence. I was a good boy when he and I met. Of course it was still a fairly difficult time in the early 90's for young gays.

One of the invitations were returned and he got the mail first. And of course he opened it up because it was one of our clients who also happened to be one of our good friends. I think this year before sending out invitations I will rent a PO BOX for a month or two and use that address instead of the home address.

AJ, that was one thing that drew me to him. I had a lot of knowledge to gain from him and he was drawn to me because he saw that I was not the typical immature 20 year old, and I have been able to teach him a thing or two (especially when it comes to politics). Prior to meeting me, he had never registered to vote. Ever since then he has voted in every election. There have been two times we split our vote (but never in a Presidential election). We split on governorship.

Independent Voter said...

AJ, my sociology professor has a great theory which I think is probably 85% accurate (the other 15% are gay men - LOL - JUST KIDDING). He calls it the penny in the jar theory.

Every time a couple has sex during the first one to two years of a relationship the couple puts a penny in a jar. And then every time the couple has sex after that they take one out. The odds are that the couple will never empty the jar.

Aunt Jean said...

Dave

I would say you are right!
Even though sex in a relationship is important it's not everything. Having things in common are just important and being able to talk even if you disagree having respect for each others opinion and being able to learn from each other keeps the fire burning. AJ

Jean,

Whole Foods in Palo Alto is great. So after I moved to RI, I was thrilled to find them here as well.

But, the ones here are not so great. Apparently the stores or maybe districts are quite independent, enough so that whoever makes the deli food in RI needs some cooking lessons, and the RI stores are not as green as Palo Alto when it comes to packaging - lots of plastic containers vs. biodegradable cardboard, etc. Also, not the variety of the Palo Alto store.

Northern California is really nirvana...

Independent Voter said...

KA, the same is true in the lower half of the state as well (regarding Whole Foods).

I watched Keith Olbermann last night and listened to his "special comment" regarding Prop 8. I thought he did a relatively good job, but he came across as too emotional, as in he had a stake in the outcome of the Proposition. He said that he isn't gay (could have fooled me), but that isn't the point, he is always emotional, but it just seemed like he a personal stake in the vote here in CA.

And then, it came out yesterday (when he appeared on the View) that he doesn't vote at all. And it is for THIS reason that he doesn't vote that makes me truly disappointed in him as a commentator. He made two claims, 1) because he lives in NYC his vote doesn't really matter and 2) by not voting it allows him to remain "neutral". Well we ALL know he is nowhere near neutral, but it really pisses me off that just because you live in a big city, it doesn't mean that your vote doesn't matter.

My point is this, suppose there are 1 million people who opposed Prop 8, felt the same way he does (that their vote doesn't matter) and they decided to stay home because their vote didn't matter, Prop 8 may not have passed, and this whole discussion would not be taking place, nor would there be a supreme court challenge taking place.

Does that make sense?

Leah Texas4Obama said...

soft- Yep, those Italian Air Force guys do some really cool stuff up there ;)

Indy- I don't care if Palin were to have 4, 8 or even 12 more years to study up on 'facts'. The fact will still remain that she has not spent her life paying attention to world affairs or thinking about them. I don't want a president that bones up for the exam at the last minute to pass the test.

Senator Obama has spent most of his life studying one way or the other about the world and our nation. He lived in a foreign country and in Hawaii with a diverse culture, he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations, then he continued his education in order to get his law degree, he knows the U.S. Constitution inside and out since he taught Constitutional Law at university, etc.

I hear the talking heads on TV saying that Palin has four years to study and read up on national and international issues and I think it is ridiculous. Being able to spurt out talking points does NOT a brilliant mind make.

Independent Voter said...

Leah - I agree with you, I don't want someone like that either....all I was saying is that there were clearly 50+ million people who DO want someone that is "just like them".

Beryl said...

"I hear the talking heads on TV saying that Palin has four years to study and read up on national and international issues and I think it is ridiculous. Being able to spurt out talking points does NOT a brilliant mind make."

ITA, Leah. It is crazy to think that in 4 years they can cram information in her head and she would then be able to process and use it for critical policy decision-making. Anyone in academia knows why she needed to attend 5 schools to graduate in 6 years.

There are lots of reasons that Palin should let go of the POTUS idea. Here are three:

1. She doesn't have sufficient intellectual curiosity or she would have already known more about the world.

2. She lacks affect. I still cannot get past her lack of reaction to Biden's tearful comment during the debate. We need a President who actually CARES about people and doesn't just put on a show so she can achieve her ambitious goals.

3. She does not understand the separation of church and state. Unlike both Obama and even McCain, she doesn't know how to be guided by her faith without imposing her beliefs on others. A good example is how Obama approaches gay marriage and abortion. He neither agrees with gay marriage nor abortions but he is not taking any steps to oppose either. They are choices which should be left to individuals.

I've heard a lot of people complain about the dress that Michelle wore last Tuesday night. People were up in arms about how "bad" it looked on her (I didn't think that at all). I thought she looked great.

However, anyone who criticizes her over it should take in mind an article I came across.....according to this article black and red are "Africa's mourning colours - in which case they were paying their respects to Barack's recently departed grandmother."

I think in this case that dress was an extremely appropriate.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Well in my opinion, 50+ million people did not actually vote for 'her', my guess is that the majority of them were voting for McCain.

I just wish the media would leave her alone so that we didn't have to hear about her all day long on the television. I am sick of her voice and just want her to go away ;)

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Indy-

I am not sure I buy the 'black and red' clothes because of the African tradition of mourning.

Senator Obama's grandmother was not African. She was what (?) Scotish or Irish or something like that.

Besides I would think that Obama would observe the Hawaiian custom of mourning since his grandmother lived in Hawaii and she is Caucasian.

The Obama family had a very traditional Hawaiian funeral in Hawaii when Obama's mother passed away.

Independent Voter said...

Leah Well in my opinion, 50+ million people did not actually vote for 'her', my guess is that the majority of them were voting for McCain.

This type of belief is what leads to complacency. I don't believe that for a minute. McCain didn't have the "base" energized whatsoever. It was Palin that energized the reich-wing nutjobs, NOT McCain. They didn't like McCain.

As far as your dress comment (election nights dress), I'm not going to address because it appears as though you are trying to be confrontational. I could be reading more into it than what was intended but I thought she looked VERY classy the night of the election night.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Indy-

Yes you are reading more into than there is.

I posted the link to the red dress Michelle wore to the White House only because I like it better then the election night dress.

I never said that I didn't like the election night dress. I saw a photo of the 'original' one that the designer made before re-doing a 'version' for Michelle. The 'original' version I really liked a lot but it would have been too short and 'sexy' for election night. I do not dislike the version that Michelle wore on election night I just think it had a bit too much of the shiney fabric on it compared to the original.

Senate -- Stevens -- 118,602
Begich -- 117,631

House -- Young -- 126,719
Berkowitz -- 111,052

Looks like roughly 26,000 ballots have been counted so far today leaving another 26,000 to be counted today. Supposedly additional ballots will be counted on Friday.

Website for Alaska election results:

www.ltgov.state.ak.us/elections/

It is not 100% clear from the Alaska website, but it looks like of 70,457 early and absentee votes received, 54,001 are being counted today and another 6,988 are still in the verification process. That count implies that around 9,000 of the early and absentee votes were rejected as void.

There are also slightly over 20,000 provisional votes (or as Alaska calls them questioned votes) but it does not look like the verification process has been completed accept in a handful of districts but, in those districts, it looks like a large percentage are being accepted as valid.

Alaska is under a microscope and everyone know their election STINKS! No way they'd have LESS voters than 2004 when

I forgot to share some news that a friends of ours (Doug) told us on Saturday when we went out.

Doug is a marine who was in Alaska last Tuesday.....he was afraid that he would be the only Obama supporter in Alaska. Anyway, he was at a bar (I don't know what city he was in...but the population was only about 3000 people) when the Alaska returns were coming in. He said that despite the large crowd, there was little activity, and a few very long sighs.

He spoke to a couple of people and apparently they said they were somewhat pissed off that McCain/Palin were not elected because they wanted to get rid of her. That was the ONLY reason the people overwhelmingly voted for them.....they wanted to get rid of her.

He did disclose that the bar he was in was pretty liberal but they really can't stand her up in Alaska. It just kind of irritated me because they cant stand her in Alaska but they voted to get rid of her and force her on the rest of the 49 states. How frickin' selfish is that?

It's actually quite funny that in 13 years I had moved 6 times. My husband's an engineer and corporations like to move their engineers around, to round them out and make money for them. That's not the funny part.

But, every state I've lived in their sports team has won while I lived there and their local politicians have been elected to higher office. Just a co-incidence.

Forgive the Texans for they did not know what they were unleashing on the world. They did not have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight. They would take it back if they could. They are good people they were just misguided. Some of them are very good and have done much good in the world. We all learn from our mistakes. The information was all out there before 2000. We need to research and figure things out internally (ie prayer, meditation, before we blindly follow a leader. They are all human and imperfect.

I just needed to vent this morning. These last eight years have been hard ones. I needed to reflect and introspect. Before I move on to better times. Much of the last 10 years have become surreal to me, but I must learn so that I don't repeat.
I hope for unity and an end for all the states and the world.

The Bush years have been a great lesson for all of us. If we don't talk and discuss things with our enemies or those who don't like us who will want to discuss much with us.

When we elected W to office in 2000 the media and others said he wasn't that intelligent, but that they hoped he would surround himself with others that are experts in their fields and take their lead. In fact, I remember Chris Matthews saying that. We sure have been disappointed.

I posted on other pages recently, just not here. When I posted last was before Obama won the primary. I was concerned that he'd lose or that the Democrats would somehow unravel themselves during the primaries and give the Republicans too much fodder. Once the primaries were over I never doubted once that Obama would win. So I never needed support. I too never voted for W, but I know many who did. Of the ones I know they are good people, some of them had very good intentions it just didn't work out that way.

Also, I've been busy.

No way are they going to let a felon be elected because that will bring too much attention to their crooked election system there. They will bring in enough Dem votes to over turn the Senate race but not enough to substantially narrow the Presidential margins.

The new question now should be this:

How many NEW votes for Obama have they suddenly turned up in Alaska?

To decrease the print size:

- To decrease one step, while holding down the 'Ctrl' key, click the '-' key. Repeat to decrease further;

- Or to decrease to default size, while holding down the 'Ctrl' key, click the '0' (zero) key.

Or you can do it the "Internet Explorer" method of going to 'View' at the top of the page, click 'Zoom' and click 'Zoom In'. If further increase is necessary, repeat all steps. I find it much easier to hold down one key, then click one other key as necessary to increase the font size enough. VBG

vwis,

Regarding the "gay school", I know there is one in New York City, but I haven't heard about any here in CA (or even talk of one). However, I am somewhat conflicted on the issue.

On one hand yes, they do need protection, but I don't think a separate school is the answer for a few reasons. First, most gays aren't "out" in their teen years, for good reason, many are still seeking to find out who they are (granted some already know by that time, but most simply don't). Who does segregation actually help? Nobody, because they would lose that interaction that is necessary to learn early on as to how to deal with difficult situations later in life.

Another reason I don't support separate schools is simply the equal access provision from Brown. Believe it or not (and many people still to this day don't), equal access means equal access for everyone. Since most teens aren't "out" the classroom sizes would be much smaller than a typical public school. Which means that the education provided at the segregated school would more than likely be better because of more accessibility to the teachers, hence a better quality education. With that said, what would prevent straight teens (and their parents) from suing to gain access to the school? If the school is considered a private school, there isn't much that anyone can do about it. This is also the reason why I don't believe in school vouchers being used for private schools. Private school do discriminate and are allowed by law to discriminate.

Anyway, I could go on, but I'm running late for school, so I will come back later and provide a couple more reasons I don't like the idea of segregated school.

Independent Voter,

I had much the same sentiment and concerns. I pondered also, whether we were not making gays the new blacks. That may be OK in fashion(I mean on the runway--gays are the new black), but wrong in human rights.

Another thought I had was would the best teachers be attracted to teach there by their own bias or others around them (ie. their family and friends)? We have had that issue now with intercity schools that are primarily AA black.

I think that a better way would be to teach tolerance. We may not think all the same, but we can get along and not feel threatened by a different point of view. We actually gain wisdom from these experiences is what I have found.

I don't know what she would do.
She has said that she wants to remain as NY senator, but maybe not.

If she were to take a cabinet position then I would bet that she would not be able to take off anytime from the position to run a campaign in 2012. So that is an interesting thought too.

And if Obama were to offer her the position perhaps he is thinking about 2012 and 'tying' her up in the cabinet is part of his strategy! Hahahaha!
And if she doesn't take the position perhaps it is because she is planning a comeback in 2012.

I wish Obama would just post a list of everyone that will be in the cabinet and get it over with! ;)

vwis,

I can speed read also. I can multi-task also. I try to NOT let those traits interfere with the accuracy and coherency of messages I post.

Before I retired I was a contract specialist at a federal government agency. I sometimes had multiple contracts in various stages of pre-award, ready for award, and post-award, with and without problems, and/or multiple reasons for discussion/planning/review. Many times I had to discuss several contracts with my boss, sometimes with his boss, and his (my boss's boss's) boss, all at the same meeting.

One thing I already knew, but RELIGIOUSLY followed, was to frame any remarks with enough information to let everyone know exactly which contract I was referencing when discussing that contract, and also why I was discussing that particular contract. By doing that, I didn't have to waste EVERYONE's time with backtracking to fill in information to make sure everyone was on the same page. This was important because of time constraints on various people's schedules, and thus time wasn't wasted in people saying 'Back up there. What are we discussing?'

In other words, in my book, multi-tasking is no excuse for piss-poor messages.

Speed can be important, but accuracy and coherency is usually even more important. One of the easiest ways to be accurate and coherent when responding to a message is to copy and paste a portion of the previous post, if appropriate.

Take the time to post a coherent message, or don't post until you can take the time to post a coherent message. Take the time to review the message before hitting the post button. Doing that may just save you (and other people) time, because you won't then have to go back and figure out what you were trying to say, but left out a word, typed in the wrong word, or otherwise made a post that reads differently than, or totally opposite of, what you intended and meant, then having to post again to make the previous message coherent.

Who pissed on my Wheaties? People who don't take the time to address their message to the proper person.

At least two people this week have been inconsiderate in posting a message meant for someone else, but addressing it to me. They claimed "I posted it in a hurry" or "Sorry, I was multi-tasking" or some other male bovine dropping response when called on the misaddressed response. If someone is that inconsiderate, why should I show any respect to them?

I fully realize that this is a comment forum (it is NOT a blog for those of us who post here except for Matt, Oreo, Doc Jess, Mr. Super, et. al.), but everyone should have enough respect for their fellow posters AND THEMSELVES to make sure their messages are at least coherent and addressed to the person to whom they are trying to convey a message.

If a person doesn't have the time to post coherently, then why the hell are they taking time to post in the first place? And if they don't provide a reference point when they post, then why should I respect their postings?

Frankly, I'm getting tired of people addressing message to me, searching for what I posted to cause that response, then ascertaining that it was someone else to whom the message was supposed to be directed. Such carelessness does not reflect well on the author of the misdirected message, shows they don't respect themselves and have pride in what they write, so why should I show any respect in return?

That is who pissed on my Wheaties, and why I'm on such a rant tonight.

Beryl,

The one advantage of SarahBaracuda continuing to flap her lips is that she stays in the spotlight, thus 'energizing' the base of the GOP, making her the front-runner for 2012 GOP nomination. The more air she sucks out of the room for the other nominees, the more difficult it will be for them to get their campaign going.

If she does run and wins that nomination, I don't think it would take much of a campaign by the Democratic Party nominee to defeat her in the general election.

I can always flip the channel when she's on TV, so I'm not really against her being in the spotlight right now. If I thought she might have serious appeal for other than the religious-fanatic base of the GOP, then I would be concerned, but I think the more she flaps the lips, the more she excites the base, but at the same time she drives off the (what's left of it) moderate wing of the GOP, and alienates the Independents and Democrats.

vwis -

The purpose of communicating (writing at DemComWatch, other Internet comment sites, writing a letter, etc.,) is to actually communicate - an exchange of information between two or more parties so that both (or all) parties to the communication can try to understand each other. Good communication consists of clear, precise, and meaningful information being transmitted. It usually takes a bit of effort and concentration, so that you transmit the full information you intend, in a somewhat (at a minimum) orderly and coherent manner.

Because of your lack of communicating in previous messages (unorderly, lack of attention to whom you are addressing messages, lack of sufficient detail to know what you are discussing, etc.), you will save me a lot of time now, as I will just skip over any messages from you. If they are addressed to me, I won't have to figure out if you were actually addressing them to someone else, but 'accidently' put my name on them. If they are addressed to me, and you actually meant to address the comment to me, then by skipping over the message, I won't have to try to decipher what you wrote while you were multi-tasking while writing the indecipherable words.

Thank you for saving me some of my time.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/11/14/mann.ct.obama.bush/index.html

and there is a really witty quote at the end...

Excerpt of the quote:

"He is immediately muscling his way into power," complains former Bush speechwriter David Frum. "Barack Obama said at his first press conference that the US has only one president at a time. He didn't say who that president was."

I kinda hope HRC is offered and accepts the SOS position. She is clearly up for it but there are many other good candidates (e.g. Kerry, Hagel, and even Richardson).

Obama has the same tough job many of us in the private sector have -- many good candidates for a few jobs.

These are some interesting times. It is exciting to actually observe and participate in historical events after such a lull of apathy. My aunts and parents were part of the civil rights and the anti-war movements in the 50s-70s but there really wasn't anything going on this engaging until now.

Anyone here apply for a job on change.gov?

KA,

Actually Arnold isn't too bad. I just don't like the way he came into power. Everyone blamed Gray Davis (D) for all the states financial problems hence the recall. This took place despite the fact that the majority of the problems were inherited from Pete Wilson (R).

Like you, I think he would do a good job, but I don't see the Constitution being amended anytime soon.
