"WASHINGTON – Threats against a new president historically spike right after an election, but from Maine to Idaho law enforcement officials are seeing more against Barack Obama than ever before. The Secret Service would not comment or provide the number of cases they are investigating. But since the Nov. 4 election, law enforcement officials have seen more potentially threatening writings, Internet postings and other activity directed at Obama than has been seen with any past president-elect, said officials aware of the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the issue of a president's security is so sensitive."
I hope whoever even threatens the life of Obama or his family is nailed right to the wall.

mike in maryland,
Do you really think that was necessary.
Jean,
To be blunt, yes.
The objective of communication is to actually communicate ideas and/or information to one or more others, not put words on paper just to put words on paper. It seems that some certain posters here do not understand that concept.
If someone is trying to communicate, and are too busy to make sure what they write is comprehensible, or are too 'frazzled', or is too busy 'multi-tasking' to ensure the message is directed to the correct person, then comes back and implicitly lays the blame for the non-communicative and/or incorrectly addressed communications on someone else, maybe that person needs to stop, think about what in their life needs to be done first, then do it with care and proper attention, what needs to be done second, do that with care and proper attention, and what should not be done until the more important things in life are properly taken care of.
[Almost] all the above is especially directed at vwis, not at you, Jean.
Mike
Interesting article in today's Baltimore Sun about the prices people are asking, and getting, for a place to stay for people going to the Inauguration.
From $150 per night for a bedroom in a private home in Silver Spring (10 miles directly north of the White House) to $8,000 for a week in a condo in Rockville (25 miles north west of the Capital Building).
One woman is renting out her three spare bedrooms at $150 (each) per night (transit to/from the airport and breakfast for a small extra charge), and told her son, if he came to DC for the event he would have to stay with his father.
Best, though, was this:
In her frenetic search for cheap space, Stephanie Holloway, who plans to travel to Washington with her 5-year-old daughter and possibly her mother, contacted colleges and political clubs and scoured Craigslist.
The 27-year-old vice president of Capital City Young Democrats in Austin, Texas, said she got some creepy responses online - like the people who asked to see photographs of her. One man said she could have his in-law apartment for $100 if she could get him two tickets to the inaugural ball and the swearing-in. As if!
But finally a nice woman offered Holloway a spot in her Alexandria, Va., home - at no cost.
Her host, Maryann Swinson, 50, a federal worker who lives in a basement apartment, said cashing in on the inauguration just seemed wrong.
"What was so emotionally empowering about the whole Obama win is that it reminded everybody that we can get together," Swinson said. "I just wanted to give a hand."

mike in maryland,
I understand what you are saying and communicating.
Things going on today are unprecedented in so many ways that to explicate the situation would take pages if not books.
Economically, socially and politically.
Anyone can have a "moment" and I think that tolerance and a gentle hand is easier to use. It also allows growth for all individuals involved and allows tolerance for the possibility that it can happen to anyone in the future.
Just my opinion.
And after watching a lot about HRC and the SOS position I think she may take it.
They say it is a 4 year job and that could fit well in whatever her plans are.
jean
I don't think Obama 'offered' HRC the position. I think they just talked about it, because Obama met with Bill Richardson today to 'talk' about the same position.
leah,
Politically I think HRC will have first right of refusal.
It makes no sense otherwise.
jean
Don't mean to post and run.
Gotta get up at 5am and take daughter for Basketball tryouts.
What the heck is up with the time of that?
Have a good night.
jean
"Politically I think HRC will have first right of refusal."
ITA. I'd like to see HRC happy in whatever role suits her. However, I really wanted Chuck Hagel in that job since he didn't get the VP spot. Maybe he will get SoD instead.
From the NY Times online
Excerpt:
The prospect of Mrs. Clinton as secretary of state, perhaps the most prestigious cabinet position in any administration, sent people buzzing. But associates to both Democrats cautioned that their conversation included other cabinet possibilities and that no job was offered. Democrats said late Friday that Mr. Obama had also met with another oft-mentioned candidate for the post, Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico, to discuss the secretary of state job.
I was just looking at the OFFICIAL DCW EV contest entries and they have not called a winner yet because of Missouri.
http://www.26376.org/dcwcontest.xhtml
What is interesting is that IF Missouri (11 EVs) ends up going for Obama then our Aunt Jean just might win the DCW contest!
Ain't that something!
p.s. I have my fingers crossed for you Aunt Jean ;)
I'm really concerned about the Israeli/Palestinian issue if Hillary gets SofS. She is hard right on that, whether by inclination or because that's a third rail issue for a New York politician, I dunno.
I had been assuming that Obama was going to take a moderate view on that, given his friendships with the late Edward Said and Rashid Khalidi, but after the appointment of Rahm Emanuel and now possibly Hillary in sensitive positions, I dunno.
I would hate to see the Palestinians suffer thru another eight years of the US enabling the Israeli occupation.
Have a missed anyone?

Leah,
How are your Italian studies going? You still are all on top of everything on this site.
vwis-
I have neglected my Italian now for several months. Seems as if I can only focus on one obsession at a time. I am going to attend my Italian group's dinner this coming up Monday, so I am hoping to get back into hitting the books again soon ;)
I understand blogging is addictive. I hope for your sake your able to get back to your Italian because I know it was important to you.
Blogging? Addictive? Oh pooh. :)
The kids' slideshows on HuffPo are adorable, even Piper's.
jean or iv dave-I'm sorry to hear how bad the fires are again. I read about how a mobile home park of mostly senior citizens was destroyed. If I know someone who could sell a mobile home at cost, do you know who might know who the people are to contact about recovery?
The last couple of days I was catching up on zuma because the phone company had the bright idea of updating their internet service. Sounded great in theory...at least I almost got into the last level. :)
Suzi, I really don't know who you would contact.
Nothing down here in San Diego (the fires thus far are pretty far north) as of yet; however, with the Santa Ana winds kicking in, we are getting (at least Bill and I) some of the smoke from it and we are under a "Red Flag Warning". We have very sensitive sniffers....LOL! I really hope that San Diego is able to fend off the fires.
Our protest here in San Diego went REALLY well! When we had counter-protesters we simply drowned them out with our chants so nobody could tell what was being said. Some of the counter-protesters were "Minutemen" and one of them were arrested for trying to start a fight. According to one local news organization the crowd was about 25,000 people. It was/IS very cool to be a part of such a huge movement. I have the feeling that not only will the state supreme court rule on this issue against.....soon, but it will go to the US Supreme Court challenging DOMA based on the unequal tax burden.
Bill carried the backpack with water and snack, I carried a sign for us, One side said: "If One is not equal, Then NO ONE is equal," and the other side said "Gay Agenda
1. Equal Rights 2. See #1
iv dave-Mike and I saw the article about starting a school for homosexual kids. We think that's crazy. The first thing I thought was Brown v. BOE. I had no idea that you can't even visit your other half in the hospital sometimes. Talking about kids, I could tell you a story over in rants and raves if you'd like.
open question-What do you think of the job Rice has done? I think she's had to work within the "parameters" of the Bush Doctrine. I think it's caused us to neglect almost everybody but Iran and Iraq. Here it is Russia's shown up in Central America, not Alaska. It seems like Canada would be quicker to help defend us than Mexico.
Soft, I agree with you on Rice. I think she would have done several things differently if she had not been restricted by the Shrub.
I'm not sure if you read what I posted about the "gay" schools or not, but I don't necessarily like the idea. I believe in equal treatment, not special treatment. And segregated (self-segregated or not) are not a good option unless it is a private school. And yes Brown v Board could very well apply, but this time it would be reversed by allowing heterosexuals in. Like I said in my previous post on this topic is that because teenagers are generally not "out" the schools would have much smaller classrooms which would ultimately grant a higher quality education. Therefore they would potentially be receiving a better education than their straight counterparts.
What my question would be is why couldn't the other schools hire more security for greater protection as opposed to having to have an entire institution dedicated to a specific group of citizens?
There were other reasons I provided but I don't really feel like typing it all out again. LOL!!! I'm tired! 3 mile march (with a 3 mile trek back home). ALL uphill on the way home. I wish it would have been uphill on the way there....LOL!
iv dave-Yeah, I wasn't sure if you would post after the protest tonight. At least you weren't uphill in snow, lol. :)
Okay, I'm overrun by a sleepover now...chat again soon. Made sure the boys have something to snack on so I'm not up all night.
Looks like we are down to just under 24,100 ballots to be counted in Alaska -- about 1/3 being absentee ballots from Juneau and Southeast Alaska, 1/3 being absentee ballots from Anchorage, and 1/3 being provisional ballots from Anchorage.
We are hearing about the Alaskan Senate count. What about the presidential count? I'd suspect that Obama would have gotten more votes.
IV, in principal, I agree w/ you on having separate schools for gays. Among other things, I think it undermines (and underestimates) the ability of kids to get along, as long as they don't have parents (or someone) tacitly approving of bullying others who are different. Because, really, we are (each of us) "different".
Sounds like it was a good protest up here yesterday - perhaps 2000 or so. Not big, but noticable. We do need to recognize that CHURCHES provide marraige ceremonies (there are already many who recognize gay marraiges up here) versus the LEGAL definition of marraige (not here in WA - yet!). Waiting for people with clipboards up here, to get signatures for a ballot initiative. Maybe at Pride Parade this year? :-)
Mike-in-Maryland - Let me preface what I am about to say with this - I usually enjoy your posts and tend to get alot out of them. That having been said - I have sat back and thought for a couple of days about the way you treated "vwis" and some others on DCW the other day. After waiting all this time - it still has me ticked off so here goes. Sometimes you can be an inconsiderate ass when it comes to the way you treat people who have different approaches and ideas than you. Since you came down so hard on her (vwis) she has pulled back and not done as much posting as she was originally trying to do. You need to remember that all of us are not "professional bloggers" such as yourself. I know that I come to this blog to enjoy the people who frequent it. I too have ties to the government just as you do. I retired after 32+ years of federal service. I used to be a "perfectionist" when it came to correspondence, however, now I just enjoy the thought and spirit of what people are discussing. It doesn't matter to me if there are typos or they make a mistake and mis-identify who they are replying to. It is thier thoughts that matter most to me. I've tried to be positive in my postings but once in a while I let someone push my buttons like you have this time (and Stop did everyday). We all have "bad hair" days so I am giving you the benefit of the doubt. Some like Jean, Aunt Jean and Beryl all tried to be polite and kind with you and it did not seem to work - so I decided to use a "2by4" approach and give it to you bluntly (as you have said quite often). I hope you continue to share posts with me but should you feel offended and chose not too - I would understand. I've said many times that I am just an "old fart" who tells it like it is. Please give others on this blog the right to be imperfect. That is what the real world is all about. Hope you have a great day and I look forward to continued discussions with you!
Hi Dave - I bet when you started protesting - you never thought you would have to go into training to get in shape. I would have to figure out a way to hang my signs on my motorcycle if I was going to get into 3 mile marches. Even a 3 mile downhill would do me in at this stage. Keep up the good work - new minds are being opened everyday and soon I hope this inequality will also be a thing of the past.
Mike in GA,
Let me preface what I am about to say with this
It's the weekend and my husband and kids are home so I don't get much time to post. They are my first priority.
Also, I did posts on the front page at about 5 a.m. this morning. I tried posting here, but the sign-in often takes several attempts and keeps sending me to the first posts here. This morning I kept getting a secure service warning and gave up.
I hope Matt will work on that. He does such a good job with this site I am sure he is already on top of it.
I don't think any of us have been posting on the Alaska Presidential numbers because they weren't close enough for the additional ballots to matter. At this point, even the House race seems to be lost.
For those who care here are the latest numbers from Alaska:
McCain/Palin -- 179,424
Obama/Biden -- 111,560
Young -- 147,778
Berkowitz -- 131,077
Stevens -- 137,937
Begitch -- 138,959
Hi vwis - I've had similar problems and what I've found is that everytime I do a disk defragment/cleaning or clear my browsing history - the blogger dumps me. What works for me is to click "sign up here". Once I get there I don't have to do anything except sign in. No need to redo all the information or it will reject you and say someone else already has that account. I also noticed that if I try to post to fast - it does not always work. I end up waiting for a second screen to come up. Hope you have a good day!
Mike-in-GA,
How much perfectionism does it take to make sure you are properly addressing your message to the correct person?
Not much.
But then to specifically NOT apologize, but to blame it on 'speed reading', 'multi-tasking', or being 'frazzled' and in the process specifically NOT apologize, and/or imply that the problem is not the writer's fault but rather the reader's fault, is being impolite, inconsiderate and indicative of someone having a problem with their ego.
When someone is impolite to me, I can tolerate it for a while, but if it continues, I tend to become impolite back to them, especially when the matter could have been easily corrected by a "I'm sorry, that message should have been directed to so-and-so'.
I can understand typos and other mistakes - I've made lots of them myself. Other mistakes, unacknowledged in any manner when pointed out, are not acceptable to me. Adults should acknowledge their mistakes, try to learn from them, and try not to make those same mistakes in the future.
Juveniles, when they very rarely recognize, and even more rarely acknowledge, a mistake has been made try to pass off those mistakes to some other schmuck. That attitude is reminiscent of how this country has been led in the last 8 years by Dubya, Darth Cheney and company.
Do we need to emulate that type of example? I think not.
As I've said before, communication is the act of transmitting information from one or more people to some other person or persons. If what you write is disorganized, self-contradictory, contains incorrect information, or is otherwise not communicating the information in an effective manner, then why is that person writing? They are not communicating if the other party can't decipher what is written.

Mike-in-GA,
It's really sad because I work out everyday, but I usually don't do much cardio. And the march going wasn't near the workout coming back. No matter what it turned out to be a great day.
They are estimating between 110-120K nationwide...This national day of protest was organized in less than 2 days. There are definitely more coming. Georgia had about 1750 people.
Vicki - Seattle's reported turnout was 5-6K. Vancouver 50. Bellingham 200-250. Spokane 125. Anacortes 25. So Washington had a great day too!
So, how are left-wingers doing? My interest in this website seems to be waning now that Obama has been elected. I wonder if the Democrats will discover some spine and strip Lieberman of his chairmanship in the key positions he now occupies. I can think of no one less qualified to be in charge of our Homeland security apparatus than Joe Lieberman, the Likud senator with offices in Connecticut. I really doubt that he has the interests of the United States in mind.
Joe can caucus with whomever he chooses. But to be chairman is outrageous. Even if he were the 60th “Democrat” there is no guarantee that he would vote that way when it matters. Joe Lieberman was the only Democratic senator to stand on the floor of the Senate and denounce Bill Clinton when the Republicans were trying to lynch him.
Obama campaigned for Joe Lieberman in the Democratic Senatorial Primary, though once Joe lost, Obama supported the Democratic nominee. But Joe ran as independent and got votes from republicans and used it to return to the Senate, thereby depriving the anti-Iraq war candidate a win.
Joe Lieberman is the only former member of a Party’s presidential ticket to turn around the very next election cycle to replace the winning administration and was a serious candidate for VP for the opposite party.
At the very least, Joe Lieberman is a political opportunist. I can’t believe that Democrats are dumb enough to keep him within their midst.
Obama says that he holds no grudges. This does not mean that Joe should be rewarded for his traitor-ness by staying as a Democratic chairman.
Hey everyone
how is life treating you?
Leah
I read your post and appreciated it. The funny thing about it is I was against Obama and then people on here help me see the error of my thinking. I guess what I'm trying to say, even though I would have pride in winning. The main thing is Obama won. AJ
AFAO
I totally agree that they should strip Joe Lieberman of his chairmanship at the very least. He is a disgrace to the democratic party. AJ
Dave
you poor baby are you sore? You have to work them legs.Soak in some hot water with calcon and let it take you away.It will take your mind off your legs or at least thats what the commercial says! LOL LOL AJ
AJ, LOL! Ya, that's what they say, I prefer something else, it's called tequilla!
Dave
sunrise!!!! AJ
Hey everyone
has anyone heard that Obama is going to give a speech on 60 minutes tonight? That is what my mother said. AJ
Update
yes Obama is going to be on 60 minutes. I'm watching it now, it came on late because of the football game. AJ
Is anyone listening to CBS 60 Minutes interview with Obama? Can you imagine Bush answering in such detail about the economy or about 1932?
Obama is simply amazing. Erudition is very important to me.
I'm enjoying Obama's comments on 60 minutes. He is so classy and consistently thoughtful. He seems to value history and a variety of contemporary perspectives. I love how during the campaign and now he acknowledges Republicans like Eisenhower, Reagan, & T Roosevelt.
I so love this guy and pray that his style rubs off on our leaders in both the public and private sectors.
Funny thing is that I enjoyed Arnold S. this AM on "This Week". He talked about reaching across the party isle and doing what is right to get us out of our economic crisis. George S. actually told him that he was talking like Obama!
This is such a cool time despite how bad things are economically.
Question: Are you going to ask your mother-in-law to move in with you?
Answer: I am not going to tell my mother-in-law what to do. I am not stupid. After all I was able to get elected president.
Question: So you will be moving into the Whitehouse and you will also get a new dog and your mother-in-law will be moving in, heh?
Answer: Steve, I am not going to compare my mother-in-law to a dog. Where are you going with these questions? I think I am going to have to help you re-write those questions!” Smile.
Priceless!! Beautiful banter.
Question: the economy is bad. Is it as bad as 1932?
Answer: In 1932-33 the unemployment rate was 25-30%. So, no. But it is worse now than any other time since.
Can any of you imagine Bush giving this kind of answer? Do you think that Bush even knows what happened in 1932 much less be able to quantify right of the top of his head just how bad unemployment was then? Thank you America for getting it right this time and electing this man.
UGH!!!!!!! STOP IT!!!!!!!!
It hasn't aired here yet. LOL!!!!!!
Oops. Sorry. I forgot about Pacific Time zone, etc. Sorry.
Beryl, I agree with you about Arnold. I know he made fun of Obama during the election season (he was just doing his job) but I do like Arnold for the most part. I don't agree with all of his policies, but he is one of the very few Republicans that are willing to stand up against the hard reich-wing of the Republican Party and most of the Republican Party in general. He is ONE foreign-born citizen that I could actually see myself voting for president. Now granted I voted against the recall effort which put him into office to begin with, but I did vote for him when it was time for reelection. I know he said this morning that he wants to finish out at least this term of his governorship before doing anything, but I do hope that he will join the Obama administration.
Oh and AJ- Margarita's maybe, I just don't like mixed drinks too much....I prefer shots of tequilla.
AF&O,
No problem! I was just kidding with you.
Dave
I have a fifth of tequilla a fifth of Rum, and A litter [I think] of kahula. Want a drink? I would share. I like frozen Margarita's.
Now about Richardson about the only thing he's worth, is to be maybe the dog walker. Hopefully Hillary will be able to convince Obama that it would be a very bad move to put him in any spot at the white house. AJ
I just covered one eye and am typing.
Live on the West Coast and talk to you after I see 60 minutes:)
jean
Hello AJ.
If I am able to forgive Hillary (almost. I still don’t want her in this administration but I won’t talk about that), I think that you should stop talking about Richardson. It is very divisive to continue with the primary fight. Some of us think that Richardson was very good. Obviously you disagree. But, please stop dwelling on the past.
I personally think that both Hillary AND Richardson would make great administration appointments. Hillary would make a great SoS, but I'm not quite sure where Richardson would go.
I'll tell you what though, I would LOVE to be a fly on the wall during the Obama/McCain meeting.
Ok so I just got done watching Meet the Press. I honestly cannot remember ANYTHING that was really discussed. Is it me or is Tom Brokaw just NOT someone that grabs the attention?
IV,
Have you forgotten that Hillary got the singular most critical foreign policy vote of her career wrong? Have you forgotten that she voted to again give Bush authority to attack Iran? In the critical Middle-East policy she is just simply and completely wrong. And you think she can be the face of our foreign policy? I totally disagree. Also, she cannot be in HHS. She is a lawyer and no medical knowledge. She is good where she is: senate. Richardson is would be a great SOS. I think that Kerry should stay where he is: senate.
Have you forgotten that she called Obama naïve for saying that he would talk with “our enemies?” As if we should only talk with our friends. Then why do we need diplomacy if you only need to talk with your friends. In that case, just go over to each other’s house and have dinner. Have you forgotten that she leaked pictures to Drudge hoping to derail Obama with a Muslim smear? I am willing to move on, but I have not forgiven.
iv dave-How about a shot of tequila and a soak in epsom salts? The cause is worthy.
jean-Titans won!
aunt jean-I also can appreciate how much Obama fought through the primary thanks to HRC. McCain never could get any momentum because of it.
Speaking of AZ's very own McCain, did anybody else notice that Phoenix is one of 3 cities asking for emergency funding because of our current financial situation? Isn't he supposed to be more fiscally responsible than that? Here we(TN) are on the verge of a $600 mil. shortfall, but we don't have our hand out for a bailout. The alternatives aren't pretty either though. Layoffs have already been in the works. I'm glad I didn't pick my president based on who I'd be more comfortable having a drink with.
AF&O,
I have moved on, AND forgiven her. In addition, I think it was good that she was hard on him. It made him a better and more viable candidate when it came to the general election.
Soft, Phoenix is asking for the handout. It isn't really the state that is asking for it, it is the mayor (another Republican) but I understand your point. Part of that in my mind is McCain's FAILURE to secure earmarks for his home state. :) That is part of his job, to get money directed back to his state.
If you think your $600 million shortfall, try California's $10+ Billion shortfall.
AF&O
So it's ok for you to sit there and insult Hillary. Then you praise a back stabbing sorry piece of sh## Richardson. I don't think so. You do understand that if Hillary didn't take a stand by Obama that he might not of won. So please don't hand me your crap about her. Then in the same breathe say how good Richardson would be. There is no comparison between the two. Hillary is one hell of a woman and would be great at any job and would give her all. While Richardson is only after what is best for Richardson and what he can get out of it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AJ
AJ - don't let anyone steal your joy.
Hillary -- I appreciate what she did before during and after the primaries. She helped Obama win. I hope she continues to benefit the nation in whatever way is best for her.
Richardson -- I understand why you don't like him. If HRC doesn't choose to take the SoS position, I'd rather see Hagel or even Kerry in the role. I do hope Richardson plays an important role in the administration, however.
AF&O
I don't believe for one minute that she [ leaked pictures to Drudge hoping to derail Obama with a Muslim smear?] Sounds like you are just alittle bit of a pompous a##!!!
The media treated her like crap and didn't show the same respect that they showed Obama. I'm not saying that it was Obamas fault. I blame the media they made everything she said a mountain out of a mole hill. So please don't start with your garbage about Hillary. AJ
Beryl
Don't get me wrong I'm glad that Obama won. I've also watched Richardson for almost a year now and I'm sorry all he thinks about is what is best for himself. There is no one on here that can convince me that he didn't stab the Clintons in the back. Backing Obama doesn't have anything to do with it. Carter backed Obama and I still have respect for him.
It just galls me when someone insults Hillary and praises Richardson in the same breathe. I find it very insulting. AJ
Beryl
personally I had rather see Hagel if Hillary doesn't get it. There is one other person but for the life of me I cannot put a name with the face. Kerry I don't knowwwwwwwwww. I really don't have anything against him it just doesn't feel right if that makes sense. AJ
AJ
I know you are glad about Obama. However, when people post negative things about HRC, don't let them steal your joy.
This is a wonderful time for Hillary. She is going to have her pick of where she wants to be and what she does in this administration.
CBS has posted the whole interview on the web.
Beryl
I won't let people like that steal my joy. AJ
Beryl
something that I've never really noticed until tonight about Obama. When he was talking on 60 minutes tonight he has kind eyes. AJ
Beryl
I believe the eyes are a window to the soul. AJ
goodnight everyone even pa. AJ
AJ
You really are not very swift. We have spent the last 8 years laughing at Bush for “looking into his eyes.” At least don’t complete the cliché with anything to do with souls.
AJ
Here’s a secret: beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What you see in a man’s eyes is totally dependent on what you want to see. And why has it taken you this long to warm up to Obama? And why do you still fly off the handle each time defending Hillary? She doesn’t even know that you exist. Are you the last person still left fighting the last Democratic Primary contest?
AF&O
What I believe and what you believe isn't the same. It doesn't make me not very swift it only makes you look even more like a pompous a##. Also for your info I think Bush has mean looking eyes.
And to make myself clear by what I mean he has shifty eyes. I'm pretty good about reading between the lines. It's the Irish and Indian in me. By your post you can tell you are a bias rude jerk.Unappreciated of woman in power.AJ
I look into Obama’s eyes and I see an empathetic, book-intelligent, politician who has tremendous social intelligence and the ability to reach out and touch your brain. That is why he is able to speak and almost everyone thinks that he really understands the struggles that person is experiencing. That is what I see.
AJ,
It seems that I should explain my prior post to you. The point is that Bush stated that he “looked into Putin’s eyes and got a measure of his soul.”
Seriously, AJ!!!!
AF&O
maybe you should read a book on the cliche about the eyes are windows to the souls. If you watch peoples eyes it tells you a lot about what type of person they are. Now I really don't care if that is how you feel or not it's not important.
And why has it taken you this long to warm up to Obama? And why do you still fly off the handle each time defending Hillary? She doesn’t even know that you exist. Are you the last person still left fighting the last Democratic Primary contest?
To begin with if you had been a reg. on this blog you would know that I've had some serious talks with some of the bloggers on here. Then I got to know Obama [or at least as much as possible to know him] and Obama and Hillary are very much alike in their beliefs. So instead of having diarrhea of the mouth you should have correct info.
As far as me defending Hillary I will always defend her against jerks because she doesn't deserve it. As far as not knowing I exist. What does that have anything do with it. Obamas doesn't know you exist either but I don't know about you but everyone else on here would defend him. So that doesn't even make sense.
AF&O
sounds like Bush doesn't know how to read people very well but that doesn't make it any less true. AJ
AJ,
I don’t want to keep hitting you, but I think that you should know that the saying “reading between the lines” applies only to words. Being able to make judgments about a person’s character from his “eyes” is body-language intelligence. Most humans who live to adult age have that ability. Otherwise they are unable to tell friend from foe. So, you are not the only one who can “look into eyes.”
AF&O
but some people let their own ego get in the way [like you] to be able to read between the lines.AJ
AF&O,
Take a hike back to freeper-land.
Aunt Jean, we've had a few freepers come to DemConWatch the past week or two, at first pretending to be Dems but clearly trying to stir up trouble.
Just skip past his stuff without reading or responding to it. If he or she causes enough annoyance, their posts will get deleted anyway.
We all appreciate the great work Hillary has done for the campaign, more than 75 appearances. I have no doubt it made the difference in some places.
Myself, if I were her, I would stay in the Senate, which is basically a guarantee of lifetime employment if one does a good job and which gets to be a very powerful position, or look to be a point person in the administration on healthcare, which is her main issue. Maybe Obama would create a special post for her for that.
I do not think Secy of State is right for her. She has to be hard right on Israel, because of her New York connection, and that's not the best position for the U.S. to take.
Plus, foreign affairs is really Biden's strength, so I am thinking a lesser luminary for State.
I'd make McCain the Czar of Pork-Busting.
AF&O,
Why do people like yourself like to make decisions based on fear? Whenever you are influenced by leaders and media that evokes negative emotions you should not walk away you should run. That's self-preservation.
Karen Anne
I'm not that concerned about what post she does or doesn't take. I'm sure that between her and Obama they will figure out what is best for both of them. Obama is a smart man and I don't think that he would ignore her talents and what she can do for him and America. What ever they decide I'm sure even if I'm disappointed I'm sure that they both agree that it is the best for both.
It just really gets my emotions st ired up when someone gets on here and starts having diarrhea of the mouth.
I do think it take an special person to be a great president and I think both Hillary and Obama has those qualities. Will he make mistakes [of course] but I also believe that he has enough confidence in his self and abilities to correct or at least try.
I feel when people are insulting Hillary they are insulting women as a whole most of the time.
Well now that I have gotten that off my chest I will close have a nice day
AJ
Vwis
glad you're still posting. I've got to run my mother has a water leak somewhere and I guess I'll try and fix it. So talk to you later. Have a nice day. AJ
Indy,
I think you may need some R&R. Enjoy!
Aunt Jean,
I'm not surprised your handy with tools. You've had to deal with your share here.
V
Aunt Jean,
I've got your back anytime you need it.

Aunt J,
If you can't fix it you may need to call Joe the Plumber. I hear his schedule got freed-up about two weeks ago.

For all of us folks that have been missing the super-delegate list and reading polls everyday - Oreo has posted a great new list that we can all get addicted to...
http://www.demconwatchblog.com/2008/11/demconwatch-presidential-appointment.html
Be sure to spread the word that the list exists and also Oreo will be posting a White House Staff list link soon.
The first person to lose his job on January 21 will be General Betrayus.
Remember to ignore the AF&O freeper troll. I sent Oreo a msg.
DCW now has the White House Staff link up too.
Both links can be found on the front page at the top LEFT.
Aunt Jean,
Just some info and to anyone else.

suzi,
The Titan's are rocking.
Over run by a sleepover huh.
Only good moms do that:)
I think the daughter just made Varsity, long weekend.
She has not called yet so I presume that she is on the list.
The next question is mentoring.
I personally feel that is an obligation of Varsity.
I had no idea there was so much with playing sports.
How are your monsters doing:)
jean
Suzi,
I don't group all plumbers in the same basket.
Also, don't worry. I have a husband and one man in my life is as much as I can handle. I like the way Jean refers to the husband. LOL!
vwis,
Hey.
Ok, been dealing with the daughter with Varsity try outs.
When it is a kid stress is high.
Your reference to the Husband?
Yes, again I am slow.
Perhaps, not sure, Monsters are my loving teenagers and honestly they are.
Just a pain.
jean
OK,
I think I missed the boat vwis.
Nothing new.
jean
Jean,
I have 2 kids also, I understand the stress they cause. I refer to my husband, you refer to the husband. Tomato, Tomaato its all the same.
vwis,
OK, still lost in the reference.
jean
Jean,
Congrats to your daughter. One hundred kids are a lot for tryouts. Our school district has about 22 players on their basketball team. You do the math. An A string and a B string. Several of the B string never play though.
Our boys football team has about 40 players. More spares in case of injuries. It's a high injury sport. Last year they had and undefeated season up to the last game in the playoffs. In the last 10 minutes of the semi-final game of the playoffs they asked who hadn't had a chance to play all season. About 10 of them raised their hands. All of them practiced just as hard as anyone else on the team. It was really quite sad. Most years we don't go that far.
DemConWatch has posted a tracking list of Cabinet Appointments AND a White House Staff list. These will be great lists to keep an eye on in the upcoming days and weeks...

A story from Politico on why Clinton may not take or get the SOS.
Here.
Big "duh!"
These are the same conflicts which prevented Hillary from being named VP. Republicans would have further distracted the electorate by exploiting all of these financial entanglements. Obama said multiple times that "Hillary would be on anyone's short list" but to avoid the controversy, they claimed that she was not vetted for the job.
I know it is not nice for me to want Hillary to dump Bill but....
News flash everyone Hillary was offered VP spot but turned it down.Or at least that is what I heard so who knows the real truth.AJ

when I got to my mothers today there was water everywhere. I asked her if she had any idea where the water line was. This was her answer. Of course I do. It's straight from the meter. Well needless to say I dug and dug and then I dug some more. I was standing in a 10 ft. trench 2 1/2 foot deep with mud up to my elbows.
Then I asked my sweet mother are you sure this is where it's at and her response was. YES I know it's got to be there somewhere. I said I do believe it's a lost cause. Well I starting digging somewhere else and made a 6 ft trench but it was only 1 ft deep and found where the line was going. It was only about 12 ft. from where I was digging at to begin with. My mother said you know what I forgot we put the water lines in when I had my trailer. But I guess the good news is I found it and fixed it. AJ

LOL AJ, Yes I can see your tongue...LOL!
By the way, Bill's hand is doing soooooooo much better. The cast is off, and he is still going to physical therapy. All the stitches have been removed. He still experiences sharp pain every now and then but he says it subsides enough pretty quickly, and is relatively bearable. And yes, we've been able to sleep together for a couple weeks now. It feels so good to sleep in our bed again, the couch was really getting to my back. I only got hit by his cast once in the middle of the night.
G'night AJ! I slept absolutely horrible last night - only got about 3 hours sleep....I tossed and turned all night. So I'm headed to bed early tonight. See you tomorrow.
Dave
hope you sleep better tonight that is where I'm heading. AJ
Dave,
I was pointing out that being special may not be the compliment it was intended to be. I was tired and ornery, but if you open a door I tend to walk through it for the sake of a laugh. I love the endorphin rush I get, I guess. LOL

Aunt J and Dave,
You need to read my earlier posts.
jean-Congratulations on your girl's Varsity. The boys learned at sleepover that some of the songs on Guitar Hero came out when I was in high school.
Yay, for the boys. My girl razzes me that, "is that music from when you were young." She thinks I'm older than dirt.
Leah,
They just announced that you were right. Eric Holder has been offered and accepted with key conditions (according to MSNBC).
Leah,
What do know Eric Holder and his background?
I figure he is handily better than Gonzales. Also, probably better than Reno in the end of her term. I felt she started out good and slipped a little at the end.
Leah,
Beating Gonzales is not hard. I'm sure this will add fuel to fire that "it's starting to look like the Clinton administration. That's not change." My argument to that would be that Obama is surrounding himself with experience to land running. Clinton being the last Dem President most of the experience will be found there. Unless he appoints a few Repubs, which I think he will (he's hinted at that), he'd have to find someone from the Carter administration. The only one that comes to my mind is Chris Matthews. I'm not sure he doesn't have a better gig now. He did however, go out and campaign with him. But, I believe he interested in a senate run in PA.
vwis-
I don't know anything about Holder other than what I read on the Newsweek site earlier today.
He probably has a wikipedia.org page.
Everyone please vote Obama in this straw poll - link on the left side of the page...

He is such a smug ^%%^&.

Cheney, Gonzales Indicted By South Texas Grand Jury
A South Texas grand jury has indicted Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on charges related to the alleged abuse of prisoners in Willacy County's federal detention centers.
The indictment criticizes Cheney's investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers. It accuses Cheney of a conflict of interest and "at least misdemeanor assaults" on detainees by working through the prison companies.
Gonzales is accused of using his position while in office to stop an investigation into abuses at the federal detention centers.
Another indictment charges state Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. with profiting from his public office by accepting honoraria from prison management companies.
The indictments were first reported by KRGV-TV.

karen anne,
Hey, just checking. Cool.
Prior posts just got me concerned.
May I say A*******:)
Suzi,
Things have changed and we will see if the daughter made the team.
It will be announced at 7am tomorrow.
What is up with that??????????
I know every girl and they have played for 2 to 3 years and to be cut and deal with the rest of the day seems cruel if they are cut.
At the end of the day they have to report to the coaches room so they can redo their schedule of classes.
Announcing cuts at the end of the day makes more sense.
Yes, off topic, but what the heck??????????????????????
Still upset about Lieberman:)
jean
vwis, I tried, I still didn't sleep well. I'm not sure what's going on. I'm thinking I'm going to go out and have a couple beers tonight.
Leah, according to MSNBC, the Associated Press called the election for Begich!!!!!!!!!!!
58 Dem Senators (counting the @ss that Jean mentioned a few minutes ago). I refuse to say his name anymore. By keeping him in his chairmanship it proves to me that I was right, Senate Dems are spineless.
Here's a silver lining at CNN's Political Ticker-
President-elect Barack Obama has pledged to lift the ban on gays serving openly in the U.S. military.
Take that prop 8.
jean-That's crazy. What's even stranger is seeing Sarge get the hiccups after "defending" us from a strange dog. He was almost too brave.
Soft, I'm glad to see that. I'm fighting off the drama queens over at join the impact website. They are really pissing me off. They are very skeptical, but they are pissed at him even before he takes office.
I'm basically telling them that if they aren't even willing to give him a chance, then I want nothing to do with them. He never claimed that he was in favor of same-sex marriage and they are pissed that he's not in favor of it. The fact is there were only two people in the entire race that were in favor of it, Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel.
AJ - STOP READING HERE!!!!!!!!
There are a couple of people over there saying that Hillary had done so much for the gay community. I haven't seen her do anything for the gay community. They were saying that she marched with them in the gay pride parade. My response is SO WHAT! She was only in favor of repealing the provision in DOMA that deals with federal rights, but leaving in tact the state provision. Obama is in favor of repealing ALL of DOMA.
The drama queens over there really need to give him a chance before writing him off. I swear I'm so frickin' OVER so much of the gay community. They are ready to cut off their nose to spite their face, just like the PUMAs were/are.
iv dave-Only got hit once, eh? You probably deserved it. :) Is the sharp pain from nerve damage? BTW, they've got those contraptions that hang you upside down on sale at K-Mart. That would be good for your back. :)

There are definitely low-information voters in that clip. Since the Obama supporters were more educated (in general) than the McCain supporters, I shudder to think of how the McCain supporters would have responded to similar questions.
I'd like to the unedited version and see what was left on the cutting room floor.
It is a shame about the answers, and yet there was still a slant on the last questions. Not to put too fine a point on it, but Obama said share not redistribute. Isn't Barney Franke related to a purple dinosaur? :)

And vwis, I guess I don't quite get what you're saying about R&R. Are you saying the time is 4:20?
Leah,
They claim to have asked 12 Obama voters. What I would like to know, how many were question before they picked out the 12 that would fit into their "documentary". You know that they were not all interviewed back to back.
on the howobamagotelected website, Nate Silvers at 538 has had a couple of posts today on the person doing the documentary and a survey that website had zogby do, including an interview with the Republican operative behind it. Amazing how the quality of Republican operatives has fallen since the passing of Lee Atwater.
Dave
where are you getting that Obama is wanting to repeal all of doma and Hillary is wanting only part. The sites that I looked at had Hillary, Obama and Edwards wanting the same things. Your nails are showing in Hillary. Aj
Leah
I really don't know what the problem is this week is it TRASH Hillary week. To begin with the site does not like the Clintons you can tell that with no problem. I looked everywhere and can't find that court date anywhere. I do believe is just a rue to get trouble started.AJ

The 'interview' is a real good read (if you're not a wing-nut)! It shows what a fool John Ziegler actually is. If you don't know of him, he's been fired by several talk radio stations for various reasons. In some ways, he makes Michael Weiner (aka Michael Savage) look like a pussy cat.

how are you tonight? I doing shitty. I've been sick all day. Woke up at 4:30 am and had to run to the bathroom.[kept a bowl with me the rest of the morning] I went to the dr today and he gave me a shot and 3 scrips. I feel alittle better. AJ

I know you are not the Karen Anne that post on here because of the garbage that is coming out of your mouth about Hillary. You are not welcome here if that is the things that you are going to say.Not only that there is already a Karen Anne can't you think of some other name? AJ
The 'Karen Anne' who posted at 2:43 am, complaining about 'all the leaking' is NOT the Karen Anne who has been posting for months here at DCW.
The 'Karen Anne' who posted at 2:47 am, talking about 'Mrs Drama-Prima Dona' is NOT the Karen Anne who has been posting for months here at DCW.
Since the reference was to 'Mrs Drama-Prima Dona', the structure and spelling of the comment make me believe it might be our former 'friend' from Houston and/or Dallas, depending on which persona our 'friend' was presenting.

Sad little freepers, crying in your Kleenex. What a difference between you and Democrats, we'd be out doing something constructive.
As to Hillary, I'm not sure what is going on now, the Times is saying she is ambivalent about SoS. Bill has so many potential conflicts it looks like that he'd really have to restructure his life.
Hi all, been a few days since I've been on.
On the SOS/Hillary deal, my initial reaction was that this "leak" was to appease the Hillary fans that she was being vetted for a cabinet position since it there was such a stir about her not being vetted for VP.
Personally, so she can work on her health care initiatives I think either Health and Human services or staying in the Senate would be better for her. JMO.
Obviously someone does realize what it's doing by posting under another.
