Aunt Jean,

This is where we disagree. I hope HRC learned from her failed attempts to implement universal health care as First Lady. Her old "my way or no way" style resulted in us getting NO NEW HEALTH CARE PLAN AT ALL.

Neither HRC's or Obama's health care plans (which are similar) will pass -- AS IS. We will only get an affordable plan with significant bipartisan negotiation and compromise. If she did learn from that failure, she will indeed be a good leader either in the WH or as a Governor (which I think is her next ambition).

I'm not trying to hurt your feelings because clearly you idolize her. HRC is a strong and smart lady but it takes more than intelligence and strength to be a successful leader.

"Her old "my way or no way" style resulted in us getting NO NEW HEALTH CARE PLAN AT ALL."

Why HRC's UHC failed in 1993:

1. American public WERE not ready for a Single Payer "Cradle to Grave" Health Card.

2. Hospitals, HMOs, Pharmaceutical Companies banded together and spent nearly 150 million dollars in Ads to oppose the UHC.

What has changed now?

3. Now, the Big Businesses like Auto WANT UHC. American public realize that SHE was after all right to push for UHC. Because, now they feel, that's the most important thing to revitalize the American Business and the Competitiveness of the Workers.

In that regard, HRC was ahead of her time - she wanted to create something larger than life. The opposition was immense then, but now WE ALL want it. In deed, she saw what most people failed to see at that time in 1993 - fifteen years ahead of most of us. That's the trait of a real LEADER!

Stay tuned.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

iv- I was wondering the same thing about why she wasn't pushing UHC while in the senate.

My guess is that she may have lost her passion for it and she was using the issue in the campaign so she wouldn't have to talk about her 'war vote'.

stopOBAMAnow said...

"If this issue is such a huge deal for her, why has she not introduced it over the past 8 years?"

The issue is very massive.

Even now she feels that unless the WH and 2/3 of Congress are with her the UHC cannot be achieved. It needs revolutionary changes in the mindset of the public and the Congress.

Because,

1.There are nearly 50% Americans who have comfortable private health insurance. The remaining 50% desperately NEED a massive reform. Are we really ready?

2. The cost is very prohibitive here. The private sector spends 7% of GDP (13 x .07 = 910 billion $) and public sector spends another 7% a total of 14%, when all our competitors spend only 7% in a year.

With massive reform we can achieve a 50% savings at the most, which means $910 billion/300 million = $3033 per person per year cost.

3. How could a poor family of four pay 3033 x 4 = $12,132 as premium per year for health insurance?

4. If the family cannot pay, who will pay for the cost? Is the public ready to pay 9-10% health tax per year to the Coffer?

Unless there is serious commitment in the part of the President and 2/3 of the Congress such a massive reform can't be undertaken.

BHO has no plans. He is making health insurance a "Voluntary Issue". Unless ALL are included in the pool, the risk cannot be reduced and the cost cannot be contained to 7% of the GDP. He is evading the hard problem, IMO. Because, it is too massive to handle.

Stay tuned.

regarding McCain's new plane - The Straight Talk Express

For their part, Democrats often attempt to use McCain’s Straight Talk Express (STE) bus as a vehicle (no pun intended course) to attack the presumptive GOP nominee.

Among our favorites:
–the STE taking a detour…
–the STE running out of gas/got a flat tire/needs a jump start….
–the STE coming off it’s tracks…(only .5 points awarded per use since we are talking about a bus–not a train)
–the campaign throwing (name surrogate here) under the bus…

So now it’s brainstorming time for the folks in Chicago and at the DNC but here are a few suggestions from a few bored members of the McCain press corps today:

–the bumpy ride is causing us to reach for our air sick bags/gripping seat cushions
–the STE never took off
–the STE is coming in for a bumpy landing
–the campaign threw (name surrogate) off without a parachute

From CNN...

Update, 8:40 p.m.: Gen. Wesley Clark (Ret.) issued the following statement Monday night:

"There are many important issues in this Presidential election, clearly one of the most important issues is national security and keeping the American people safe. In my opinion, protecting the American people is the most important duty of our next President. I have made comments in the past about John McCain's service and I want to reiterate them in order be crystal clear. As I have said before I honor John McCain's service as a prisoner of war and a Vietnam Veteran. He was a hero to me and to hundreds of thousands and millions of others in Armed Forces as prisoner of war. I would never dishonor the service of someone who chose to wear the uniform for our nation.

"John McCain is running his campaign on his experience and how his experience would benefit him and our nation as President. That experience shows courage and commitment to our country - but it doesn't include executive experience wrestling with national policy or go-to-war decisions. And in this area his judgment has been flawed - he not only supported going into a war we didn't have to fight in Iraq, but has time and again undervalued other, non-military elements of national power that must be used effectively to protect America But as an American and former military officer I will not back down if I believe someone doesn't have sound judgment when it comes to our nation's most critical issues."

McCain/Palin 08 will be the best ticket for McCain to get at least 350 EVs. Hillary Democrats will desert the undemocratic Democratic Party in tens of millions, because Sara Palin is just a charismatic leader. She articulates commonsense-solutions to America's perennial problems.

Clark will see that Obama goes back to Hyde Park very soon.

Wesley, you do a heck of a job. Keep it up, man!

Folks:

The Universal Health Care is dead and gone. By Nominating BHO, the Party has gutted it long time ago.

Major lobbyists (from the Drug Companies, the Insurance & Hospital Mafia) infiltrated the RBC/SDs of the Party and got the "Voluntary Health" BHO at the TOP!

Therefore, those w/o adequate health insurance suffer eternally.
And, the cost of healthcare will keep increasing to destroy America from inside!

Good job RBC/SDs, your hands are full of blood! No amount of holy waters from Ganges, Nile or MS can clean them!

BHO's Achilles Heel is exposed, and he has to pack his bags to go back to Hyde Park.Chu..Chu..Hiss..

Powell cannot be VP and the main reason is the war. He was the moral compass that convinced many to go along with the LIE. When he stated Bush's case before the UN, I was thinking, "What the heck is he doing? He KNOWS this is crap!"

I know Powell is a good soldier. He told Bush Senior not to go to Iraq the first time but when Senior insisted, he carried out his orders excellently. However, I think he should have stepped down before having gone before the UN with Shrub's LIE.

I still care for Powell because I believe his heart is in the right place, he is brilliant, and he is a loyal American who previously served our country well. I just don't have the same respect for him now.

The statement was that being shot down is not a qualification for sitting in the WH. It is not executive or leadership experience. It is nothing politically. After listening to Randi Rhodes (Air America) and Michelle Bernard (MSNBC) today, I've changed my view about the Wes Clark comment. He was wrong and should shut up about it.

1. It was not only unnecessary, it was distracting.

a) It took away from two important Obama events that took place yesterday (patriotism speech) and today (faith-based partnerships without violating the separation between church and state). We should be talking about what he said over the last couple of days, not this junk.
b) It took away from the McCains skipping out on their taxes for 4 years! We should be talking about that tool.

2. It also caused people to defend McCain who should be constantly honored as a hero.

3. It highlights Obama's LACK of military service.

It makes me wonder if he deliberately was trying to cause this distraction. I don't put anything pass certain people (e.g. Clintons supporters) in their attempts to keep Obama from winning.

Why is MSNBC misrepresenting and morphing Clark's words into something that they were not?

AP,

It is not all of MSNBC. Keith had General Clark on last night, and, as usual with all of his guests, Keith let the Gen. Clark explain himself.

The idiots on MSNBC making a big deal are people like Dan Abrams (who likes to make a federal case out of an ant hill, especially when it's a Democrat - witness his weeks on end saying that Clinton MUST be the VP nominee); 'Morning Joe' - the disgraced former Repig Congresscritter who left Congress when his (female) aide was found dead in his office); and Cucker Tarlson (intentionally misspelled) who is as Reich-wing Repig as the idiot Brad Blakeman (frequent 'analyst' on Abrams show).

Mathews has a style that I don't particularly like - the constant interruptions, the talking over a guest, etc. He also will push someone quite a bit. His intent is to get the person to make a flippant comment, or major gaffe, then he jumps on it. It works sometimes, but if the guest doesn't make a flippant comment, a major gaffe, or explode, then Mathews' style can backfire, reinforcing the point that Mathews was trying to debunk. And sometimes his constant interruptions allow the other person to wiggle out of the gaffe by Mathews appearing to be the thug and causing the gaffe to be misinterpreted. Sometimes it works, but Mathews uses those times as the excuse to keep using his style, thinking it works sometimes (in his mind, most of the time), so he just needs to refine it and it will work more often.

That is why I like Keith - he allows the person to speak, then hands them some more rope if they are making a fool of themself, and then allows them to hang themself, not get hanged by Keith. Russert had much the same style. His method was a bit different than Keith's, but just as effective. Russert, though, allowed his guests to hang themselves on an equal-opportunity basis (Democrat AND Republican) - Keith almost always does it solely on and to the pro-Shrub side.

Wesley Clark's comment was 100% correct, unfortunately the media jumped on the band wagon, and too many Americans are ignorant. He is not PUMA, he has very little tact. Think of other military politicians, and it is quite clear: John McCain, Theodore Roosevelt, Jim Webb, and the list goes on.

The other type of ex-military politicians come off as having no personality: BoB Dole, John Kerry, and George Washington.

Those that spent several years in the military often lose their ability to realize what is appropriate or inappropriate to say with the public. Some overcompensate by doing the military public image thing, and looking boring. Others say they're no longer in the military, and now they can be their own person, and end up saying the stuff they used to say to shipmates in quarters on public television.

The attack on John Kerry 4 years ago was a million times worse, because it was an insult to his service. This isn't an insult to John McCain's service, just an astute point that that does not qualify him for President.

McCain, how long will we have to wait for the straight talk to begin from you?

apissedant said...

The chick from Air America did a good job with it on her program, and I am sure Keith did well too, but the rest seem to be touting the Republican message. Why it is inappropriate to question McCain's credentials while not questioning his heroism, while he cozies up to people that lied and questioned Kerry's patriotism... is just not right.
So basically, I completely agree with your analysis Mike in Md. I like Keith, but he is most definitely biased. Russert was a true nonpartisan with his reporting. He was fair to whoever was in front of him, only tackling them if they were wrong, and not making up facts in the process.
Mathews is mediocre. He is relatively fair, but he seems more interested in boosting ratings and his own stature than exposing truth or doing a public service. I still love what he did with Zell Miller though, maybe he can repeat it with Lieberman.

Leah,
As far as Obama's rightward transition, I am not a fan. I understand it is normal, and he feels it is necessary. Some of it I completely understand and support, but his 2nd amendment statement after the SC decision was politically smart, but morally wrong.

I love his moderate tone on NAFTA though. It comes very close to my opinion, which I have aired here several times. Those nations that compete on wages, benefits, environmental standards, worker safety, and child labor should have no, or very low tariffs. All others should be punished for their unfair policies in order to protect the American workers, and to force those nations to treat their citizens properly, and not as slave labor.

Roaming comment from the often absent Emit......

Note on the news coverage (and for now I am not angry about it). During the Primary race they did their best to slant the news to keep the race close. That way they had something to do and still get paid for entertaining the masses. Now they are doing the same thing. As soon as the polls show Obama pulling ahead (as much as 15% in some polls), they put on the spin and hype anything that might cost Obama a couple poll points. Got to keep it to single digits.

In my book that is okay. Keep giving the Republicans hope that McBush has a chance. Then they won't replace him at their convention.

Here is a little excerpt from an article regarding the biggest loser in politics, HRC:

“Even though her bid for the Presidency has ended, the public will soon learn how Senator Clinton, solicited, coordinated, and then covered up her donations to win her Senate seat, and then used the media to help in her cover-up.

Judge Munoz ruled back in April that Paul's legal team can begin seeking depositions from a host of big names – including Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, along with an A-list of Hollywood celebrities that allegedly were witnesses to an effort by the Clintons and top Democratic leaders to extract millions of dollars from Paul in illegal donations and then cover it up.

Discovery will begin soon.

The Clintons have tried to dismiss the case, but the California Supreme Court, in 2004, upheld a lower-court decision to deny the motion.

In the complaint, Bill Clinton promised to promote Paul's Internet entertainment company, Stan Lee Media, in exchange for stock, cash options and massive contributions to his wife's 2000 Senate campaign. Paul contends he was directed by the Clintons and Democratic Party leaders to produce, pay for and then join them in lying about footing the bill for an August 2000 Hollywood gala and fundraiser.

The Clintons' legal counsel has denied the former president made any deal with Paul. But Paul's attorney Colette Wilson has stated there are witnesses who say it was common knowledge at Stan Lee Media that Bill Clinton was preparing to be a rainmaker for the company after he left office.

The complaint also asserts that Senator Clinton filed four false reports to the FEC of Paul's donations in an attempt to distance herself from him after a Washington Post story days after the August 2000 fundraiser reported his past felony convictions. Clinton then returned a check for $2,000, insisting it was the only money she had taken from Paul. But one month later, she demanded another $100,000, to be hidden in a state committee using untraceable securities.

Senator Clinton was dismissed as a defendant back in October, yet she must still testify as a material witness against her husband. Munoz already has made it clear he won't accept any attempts to block Senator Clinton from serving as a material witness."

How dispirited are the Repigs getting with the McSame campaign, and his attempts to distance himself from the rest of the Repig party?

Here's a sample from the FederalReview.com web site:

"Kick the base, then kick them some more
By: Anthony
11:28 PM

An inside source in the John McCain New Jersey Presidential campaign headquarters, which just opened this past weekend, confirmed they were instructed by senior campaign staffers that all Republican and GOP pictures, logos, and symbols were banned from the headquarters.

The staff was also instructed that they are not allowed to have any joint events with any republican organizations. The banning of his own party from his regional office comes as yet another blow to what appears as an unmotivated and not included base.

“We don’t want to isolate anyone,” said a McCain staff member, who asked to remain anonymous. Unfortunately, the already shaky McCain base is feeling even more isolated because their presumptive presidential nominee doesn’t want anything to do with their party."

I had almost resigned myself to voting for this egotistical jackass. After seeing this, however, I just don't think I can pull the lever for McCain in November.

With any luck, real Republicans, if any still remain, will stage a Coup d'Etat at the national convention - and hand the nomination over to Mitt Romney. If not, say hello to President Obama."

My reaction? Bwahahahahahahahaha!

The Supreme Court's decision on the 2nd Amendment gets it's first real test, and the dichotomy of the theory that all Americans can own and carry a handgun vs. public safety, gets a test in real life:

Atlanta airport gun ban is challenged

A state legislator claims that a new law letting Georgians carry firearms in public places applies to Hartsfield-Jackson International. A group files a federal suit against the facility and city.

The rest of the story can be found at:
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-guns2-2008jul02,0,6818195.story

Although the suit is filed in a state court, it WILL end up in federal court. Let's see where the Department of Homeland Security, and it's task of keeping 'Muricans safe at airports, etc., and the Justice Department come down on this one.

Whatever Michelle says Americans love sooooooooo much.

Maya Soetoro-Ng has no chance of competing with Michelle.

Folks:

As per the polls, Obama will win MA, NY, IL, CA for sure. All other States are very questionable:

Since Mar 7, McCain and BHO are very much tied in the National Polls (gallup.com) - some weeks McCain leads by 5%, other days BHO leads by 5%. This is in spite of ferocious attack by the liberal MSM on McCain, and a lukewarm support of the FAR RIGHT. This will change dramatically when the Right gets their acts together.

Who is really supporting BHO:

Most of Blacks and Gay/Lesbians, that's it.

AOL Straw Poll does NOT capture these two groups well, although n = 400K-500K per week.

Most of White America supports McCain, for sure. This IS a big issue. On National Security, Foreign Policy and being the Commander-In-Chief, McCain scores very high marks. In the Fall, these issues will be at the front burner!

Company Sponsored Private polls have very small n= 1500-2000. This is too small a sample to understand the mood of America!

Stay tuned. See you in the evening.

I'm glad they bring this stuff up. There are a lot of people who don't believe that these things actually went on and were condoned by the police on a regular basis over a long period of time. 60 years is a long time ago but it is not like it stopped completely way back then. This country has come a long way -- thank God. We have a long way to go when we think about what happened in Jasper,TX and Laramie,WY. There were actually crazy people protesting and saying that Matthew deserved being killed and the murder should not be considered a "hate-crime".

It is good to expose and as a result, DEFINE evil deeds. It is money well spent, IMO.

beryl,
Of course it is money well spent.
History is our lesson for growth.
I am just thinking of the personal
satisfaction of the victim's families.
Just imagine posting the college graduates yearly and thanking the KKK for their support.

Schmidt just took over in reference to McCain,s campaign today.
He did really well with Arnold.
I think the bar just got put up a knotch.
The rest was great but I think it is over.
Huh, something to think about.
I think our big guns are going to be pulled out soon:)

(CNN) — Former Vice President Dan Quayle didn’t think John McCain would make it this far in his quest for the White House – and he’s pessimistic about his fall chances against Barack Obama.

"Polls show most people want change and change wins a lot of the time," Quayle said on a conference call with reporters Tuesday to promote his participation in a golf tournament later this month. "I hope McCain wins, but to be very fair, he has an uphill battle."

The NRA just announced their 15 million dollar campaign against Obama.
They hate McCain too so whatever.
Heck, McCain pretty much said they were useless.
I do believe the games have begun.

Solid Obama: CA, DC, HI, IL, MD, NY, RI, VT - 131 EVs.

Solid McCain: AL, ID, KY, OK, TN, UT, WY - 47 EVs

Obama estimated totals range from 275 to 334

It's still early ;)

p.s. Don't pay attention to stop0's bogus data that he pull from the air.

leah,
I know it is early.
Basically the Repubs have not done anything of consequence simply because the one's doing it were incompetant.
I do not think we are going to be bored much longer.
I do not think we are going to lose but there is now going to be some competition.

Elizabeth headlines health care campaign. There isn't enough info to see how this meshes with Obama's effort which she is advising on.

A little puzzling.

DCW will be posting an updated Presidential Forecast/General Election Tracker tonight.

MA will be off the chart as solid for Obama.

Looking forward to the update :)

It is awfully suspicious that McCain goes to Colombia and today the Colombian government rescues the American hostages.

Don't trust the Republicans!

Beryl said...

Does anyone honestly think Clark has a shot at being named the VP? I don't.

Again, I agree with what he said and that he (unlike many others) has a right to say it. I just don't agree with his timing or the way he said it.

jean said...

beryl,
Obama did not say he was wrong.
He said inartful.
I am sure he is still on the list.
Everyone has mispoke or spoke in an untimely fashion.

Leah,
You were right.
McCain did have advance knowledge.
It is on CNN Political Ticker.
I think there was more advance knowledge than we know.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Ha! See I thought so!

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/07/02/mccain-had-advance-knowledge-of-colombian-raid/

McCain probably knew about BEFORE his Colombia trip was planned. The U.S. and Colombia probably cooked up the rescue weeks ago to give McCain some good press while in Colombia.

Don't trust the Republican government!

jean said...

Leah,
We just wish Obama had done it.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

LOL - I posted at 4:20pm and CNN posted at 4:30pm

jean - it just seemed very strange to me that McCain went to Colombia and even the talking heads have been saying the past couple of days that they didn't understand why he was going down there... well now we know a bit more ;)

Leah Texas4Obama said...

jean-

If Obama had gone down there probably nothing would have happened.

I believe some one in the Bush camp had something to do with this...

Now let's see if the rest of the MSM links the hostage rescue with the McCain trip. If they do then we'll know that this was all planned out in advance.

Hello There:

Gallup showed the approval ratings are nearly tied again 46% to BHO and 44% to McCain (2% +/- margin).

This has been the trend among the Small Company Surveys (n=1K-2K). But if you go to large surveys of n < 400 K, the result is 38% to BHO and 62% for McCain (AOL Straw Poll where plenty of White America participates).

My poll of polls still favors McCain by 52% to BHO's 47% to others 1%.

So, McCain = NOT McBush.

But, today's Wall Street J Editorial calls BHO as Bush's Third Term (p A12, 7-2-08)!!!!!

Why?

Because he is following Bush on FISA and on "Faith Based Initiatives"!

He is expected to follow Bush on Iraq Policy and on Gay/Lesbians in the Military!

"Economist" from London said that BHO has the Audacity of Humbug.

Why?

Because he flip-flopped on Public Financing of GE. He is also moving towards the Center - everything he opposed in the Primary!!

GOP is forming a Separate Campaign Fund to tackle BHO's mischief on Public Financing!

As I said earlier, BHO will do anything to get elected.

He is just another Chicago Politician:

He got a sweet deal for $1.32 million loan at a 30 y fixed rate of only 5.625% to buy his Hyde Park Mansion, from Northern Trust where he has invested 3 million dollars so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doesn't this smell like Dodd and Conrad with Countrywide's VIP List? Yah..........Yes...Yes..

Audacity of Humbug, I like it.

Stay tuned.

From CNN...

According to Pentagon officials, Colombians had told the United States about the operation in the past few days. The U.S. approved the plans but had no part in them.
