Either poll is more than two points.

Also, looking at the Gallup poll averages since June 6 (http://www.gallup.com/poll/108421/Gallup-Daily-Obama-Leads-McCain-47-42.aspx), Senator Obama has NEVER trailed. Three ties, but Senator Obama has not had lower poll numbers than McSame during that period.

In three polls in Arkansas (a state some were saying will not be in play at all if Senator Obama were the Democratic nominee), taken over the last three months, Rasmussen has found that McSame's poll numbers are falling (11 points since mid-March), and Senator Obama's numbers are rising (up nine points since mid-March). Each of the polls was among 500 Likely Voters:

Dates McCain Obama
3/18/08 59 30
5/12/08 57 33
6/12/08 48 39

Looks like the race is tightening in this state that Senator Obama was supposed to get blown out in.

Ugh, I wish someone would post less garbage here, or at least stop being a 14 year old posing as a 50 year old. Anyone over the age of 14 would know that a 5.625% interest rate is not some sort of sweet deal. They would also know that there isn't just one credit rate for all customers, and that credit scores, income, property, luck, and many other factors contribute to the interest rate received. No one in my family pays above 5.25%, I wonder who we're being bribed by, and for what.

Ok FISA issue.

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO sick of people whining about the FISA bill. People have no clue what the hell they are complaining about.

They are all up in arms about granting "immunity" for the telecoms. That is the only problem they have with it right?

What THEY fail to understand is the "immunity" provision in the FISA bill is simply immunity from CIVIL lawsuits, NOT criminal prosecution.

When it comes to civil lawsuit I am TOTALLY in favor of granting them immunity, but not from criminal prosecution. I understand that people would LOVE to get compensated for their inconvenience of being wire tapped illegally but for Hey Zeus (Jesus) sake. Give it a rest. (I'm not talking about anyone here on this blog). I'm talking about the moveon.org'ers and kos folks.

If the immunity provision was not included the potential of the telecoms losing hundreds of billions of dollars would CRUSH our economy! Who do these people think would end up paying for that lost revenue in the long run? I hope these people are prepared to pay $100 per month for home telephone service, or $100 per month for internet service, or at minimum $200 a month for cell phone service.

If they are not, they need to give it a rest and shut the hell up.

Who's with me?

Obamaniacs, my update of EV:

BHO could get ALL of NE States upto NJ, MD, DC.

PA is doubtful; maybe, if Hillary Democrats help him.

In the Midwest, he will get MI, IL, MN and WI.

In the West, he will get WA, OR, CA and HI.

None of the mountain States will go for him.

(Of this you will notice, most went for Hillary in the Primary!).

This will give him only 251 EVs, not more!

Even this is possible only if BHO moves to the Center, and he gets the REAL help from Bill and Hillary.

Go to www.270towin.com and get the details for 2004 Kerry's EVs.

That's the potential maximum BHO will get in 2008. 251 EVs.

On FISA, if telecoms have committed a crime, then BOTH civil and criminal penalties must apply.

If you give immunity to Civil, then extend it to Criminal too.

Where is the need for distinction?

I can definitely agree with to each his own, and as long as it isn't Republican propaganda. I don't mind discussing anything as long as it is true, substantive, and positive.

Dave, further up on this page, our favorite idiot repeated a report circulating that Obama got a favorable interest rate. Of course our favorite idiot deleted the word MIGHT, because the reports only knew what interest rate he got, not how he ended up getting that interest rate. The average interest rate for homes like the one bought by Obama were getting interest rates of 5.9%, and Obama got 5.625%. Of course the law of averages requires some scores below 5.9, and some scores about 5.9 in order to come out to the average of 5.9. They have no idea what his credit score was, or the credit scores of the other people buying homes. They have not talked to Obama or the bank. They simply said that he got a special deal on his interest rate because it is below average.

I would hate to be a public official in this current environment. You get blamed for the mistakes of your parents, every move is scrutinized, your kids and wife get made fun of, you have to take a pay cut, and in order to not appear improper, you have to pay a higher price for everything than it is actually worth. I'm not seeing the upside.

I agree. Boy you had me confused on that interest rate thing.
I am a banker.
During that time that rate was not unusual.
If you follow the 10yr bond you can follow the interest rates.
And believe it or not there are specials where buyers are looking for certain types of paper to securitize and you can get .25 or whatever if you close by the end of the month.
I refer it to the blue light specials:)
He could of also paid a point to buy down the rate but they will not say that.
If I were you do not feel sorry for these public officials.
They like the power and the politics. That is what they get off on. The kids is a different story.
If they didn't get off on the power why else would they do it.
Clinton didn't make squat, comparativly speaking until he left office.
Good for him. He busted his butt 365 days a year and if you look at his hourly wage he didn't make squat. He did love his power though.
Obama does also. That is one of the main reasons why he is doing it, good for him. If we did not have these type of individuals in our society we would be screwed.
Greenspan couldn't invest for how long because it was considered a conflict of interest.
Many people made their cash before there service because of the conflicts of interest during their term. If they don't, they do it after and good for them. They have patience and long term goals.
This is their gig. I wouldn't want it but they thrive on it.
Of course another reason is they want to do good things, but the main reason is power.
The smear stuff, that is politics and will never go away.
Their grown-ups and they are fine.
They deal with it everyday.
It comes with the territory.
Lighten up. They chose these fields and are working very hard to stay in them because they like it.

STOP,
YOU'RE AN IDIOT. Pollute another thread. AOL polls are not properly done, and this has been explained to you before. He did not promise to eliminate all government oversight. He did not get a corrupt interest rate, as his interest rate was slightly better than average. If his credit core is slightly better than average, well there you go.

As for corruption.... ENRON. Your good buddy Bush hired how many Enron executives to work in the federal government? Your good buddy gave no bid contracts to what company that the VP still owns stock in, and used to be the CEO of? That company has already been proven to have falsely billed for how many billions of dollars in services not rendered? Your buddy let who write the energy policy? Your buddy fired how many federal prosecutors for not pursuing a political agenda? Your buddy severely hindered the ability of the IRS to do audits on which income bracket, while increasing the number of audits on the poor? Your buddy said global warming didn't exist. Your buddy ignored Richard Clark, and decided more terrorist protection was not needed. Your buddy increased the deficit from 6 to 10 trillion dollars, an unprecedented increase that no other President has managed.

This is a DEMOCRATIC FORUM. We know where the corruption and stupidity lies, and it isn't in our party, it is in yours. Please, go clean house back in your own home. Your buddy McCain lost 5 fighter jets in 10 years. He graduated in the BOTTOM percentile of his class, and was never offered admiral by his own account. He is a political hack, a two faced liar, and an idiot. Go educate him. He was born to a long line of very successful men, and was still completely unable to succeed, just like Bush. He cheated on his injured wife, got a divorce, then married his mistress. He is morally bankrupt and so are you.

jean,
I personally don't think Barack Obama is that power hungry, or John Edwards, or several others. I really think these guys want to do what is right. Most enjoy the power, no doubt, but that isn't enough for many. Look how much the Clinton's aged in office. Look how young they looked in 92, and how old they looked in 2001. They are more focused on the power, I'll grant you, but look at what it cost them.

What about Bill Bradley and Colin Powell? These are WONDERFUL men that want to do, and could do so much for our society. It isn't about power, it is about making our country better, but to them, it just isn't worth the cost. We could have so many more great leaders doing so many great things if it wasn't such a crappy job.

Everything a politician does there is always a winner or a loser.
Whether winning an election or passing legislation.
How do you think they feel when they win. Of course they feel great doing something good, but they also love to win.
jean

apissedant said...

jean,
We're guilty of that too... how disappointing were 2000 and 2004 for us? How nice was 2006? I remember celebrations and happiness and drinks. You can take part in a campaign without being the candidate under scrutiny and still get most of that wonderful winning feeling.

A great example of not liking power is George Washington. He hated it, but he felt it was his duty. That is what I think with Colin Powell. Just because he was a general does not mean he was power hungry. It is a job, and to military people, it is a responsibility. I never met an Admiral, but I did have the opportunity to speak to 4 different Captains while I was in the Navy. Each one of them were the nicest guys I met. They were not power hungry or anything else. On the Truman, I remember fighting with the Captain for about 30 seconds over who would go up the stairs first. I was trying to let him go first, he was the Captain after all, but he wouldn't have it.

There are plenty there that are power hungry too, don't get me wrong, my old RO made Captain and got transferred off the ship. He was bad enough as a Commander, I am very glad I never had to serve under him while he was a Captain.

Don't assume that a powerful job is necessarily held by a power hungry person, it isn't always true. Some people really are just good people doing their jobs and trying to help others.

If there was any doubt that Republicans don't care about middle and low class blue collar workers, there is their latest OFFICIAL statement:

"the White House released a statement arguing that even if employment is declining, the economy has managed to continue expanding -- albeit at an anemic rate. Gross Domestic Product between April and June was 0.2 percent.

"We are no doubt in a period of slow growth, it is growth nonetheless but it's very slow and it's had an impact on employment," said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino. "

Quoted from the Washington Post.
Employers Cut Jobs for 6th Straight Month

Yes, more Americans are unemployed and have no income. Yes, the Republican party is in favor of ending all social programs, completely abandoning these citizens. So what? Who cares? Even though more Americans are screwed and earning nothing, those that still have a job got a .2% raise, so everything is ok.

Of course the value of the dollar they are earning has receded by 15% in the past year, but that is neither here nor there.

I agree with your assessment of General Powell. I don't think he is power hungry at all.

I don't know General Powell personally but I've been to events and listened to him. He comes across as a born leader. My father (my hero) retired as a Lt Col (who also went to Command General Staff College) and I understand the nature of military leaders.

Born leaders (military and otherwise) often have no desire to be a leader and would rather not lead anyone at all. They are usually put in those roles because of others. No matter how hard they try to stay in the background, people see that they have the ability to lead. They are often soft-spoken but when they do speak, people listen.

Now there are those who are power-hungry. I just don't think General Powell is one of those people. If he were, you'd see him out there running for office.

On the subject of whether the Rocky Mountain states will vote for Senator Obama or not:

It is my understanding that Montana is considered a Rocky Mountain state.

Montana:
Rasmussen Reports
7/3/08 - 500 LV, 4.5 MOE

Obama 48, McCain 43

Hmmmmm. Looks like, according to Rasmussen, Senator Obama is up by 5 points.

So much for that guarantee that Senator Obama 'has no chance' in the Rocky Mountain states.

By the way, most pollsters consider Rasmussen leaning to the Republicans when polling.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Mike-

What is awesome about Montana is that the previous poll had McCain up by 5 points. So Obama has gained 10 points.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

From FiveThirtyEight.com

A couple other polls out today too. In Rhode Island, which also hadn't been polled in a long time, Obama leads by 28 points in a Rhode Island College survey. This is not a surprise considering his recent results in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Speaking of which, there is yet another poll out in Connecticut, this one by Research 2000 on behalf of Daily Kos, which shows a 22-point lead for Obama (and suggests that Joe Lieberman would lose to Ned Lamont if that matchup were held today). Finally, a Strategies 360 poll in Washington has Obama ahead by 8.

More good news :)

Instead of helping her, this aPISS is spending all his time on this blog, blathering nonsense all day everyday!!!!lol)

Please read what the management/owners of this site say about this Thread:

"what does Obama need to do to win in November or whatever else is on your mind."

I have been writing about how BHO can win: By moving decidedly towards the Center - by junking his basic instincts of "Big Govt, Big Tax and Big Spending etc." Also, I point out what will destroy his Candidacy - that's what any responsible voter would do: point out good AND the bad.

Besides, my audience is NOT the FAR LEFT liberals and homosexuals. I am writing to the Silent Majority, who visit the site but do not actively participate. The Vocal Minority in this site is emotionally bound to the Weak Candidate, IMO. They are perennial losers.

I want you to read further what the owners/management of the Site say:

"And please be excellent to one another. We do not accept name calling or any attacks on our commenters. Any objectionable comments will be deleted. Try to be civil."

Can you understand what they mean?

1. On Sweet Deals BHO got from Northern Trust:

It appears he got a sweet deal for a Jumbo Loan. This needs to be explored further and see where it goes: perhaps, during the Debate.

Dodd and Conrad ARE VIPs of Countrywide, period. The foxes are guarding the hens!!!!

We know BHO got about $300K sweet deal from Rezko on his Mansion. This will be further explored during the Debate.

On the Polls:

You love the Private Polls, which use very small n=900-2000. My opinion is although they claim to use scientific method, I suspect they do NOT -they massage the data to suit their Editors' point of view. I take them with a pinch of salt. I like large n 400-500 K used in the AOL Straw Poll. I use it to get my Poll of Polls, which is very much tied or McCain is leading BHO, so far:

McCain 51%, BHO 48% and others 1%

On Corruption in Congress: Congressman Jefferson of LA, a Democrat would give you a lesson on that.

Learn first, think hard before you open your potty mouth.

Stay tuned.

While this would be fun it would also educate so the full picture would be understood.

beryl,
On gun control, I am against a city wide ban on guns. I am against state wide bans on guns or types of guns, as well as statewide gun control of any sort really. I find them terribly ineffective due to high and easy traffic between states and cities.
The thing with the SC vote was that I can find no legal reason for their argument. The Constitution is quite clear, especially when the Virginia and New York constitutions are used as a comparison, as well as the original drafts of the second amendment, and the Federalist papers, that guns were a state issue. (poorly structured sentence I realize)
The problem is that now the SC has declared it a national issue, and the federal government is much more limited in its abilities due to the second amendment, especially the latest interpretation.

Scalia used very little legal arguments for his reasoning, and most of them were sketchy. His opinion was coated with opinion and emotions, not law or precedents.

I think any effective control must be done at federal level. If that means banning Saturday night specials, limiting number of gun purchases per month, requiring registration, banning assault rifles, and requiring background checks, great! I am a law abiding citizen, and as such, I have no problems with any of these controls. These controls still allow me to own a gun, while helping prevent criminals, children, and the mentally insane from getting their hands on them.

That is the typical, "anti-gun" position, despite what the right tries to say. Almost no one wants to take guns away from all Americans, or ban handguns, or anything like that. They want tighter control of sales to prevent resales, or sales to mentally incompetent people or felons. The Virginia Tech kid was legally not allowed to buy a gun, but the gun dealers were legally allowed to sell him guns. Our current laws are completely inadequate.

Has anyone taken a loot at what is going on in Minnesota? Franken is having a hard time, and the reason why is kind of funny. He accidentally forgot to pay 100k in taxes to various states. He was on tour last year, doing speeches in multiple states. He claims there was a paperwork error, and he sent the wrong states the wrong amount of money. It is severely hurting his chances of unseating Coleman, and his poll numbers are through the floor.

This is amusing because McCain's tax problem has been completely swept under the rug and let go. For some reason, it is completely ok for a President to make tax errors, but a Senator must have perfect taxes.

Both need to hire a new accountant, because it is embarrassing and bad form, but why is Franken's such a big deal, and McCain's doesn't matter?

In fairness, he also has a problem with an article written for Playboy, but that is a complete non-issue. It was a piece of satire for a risque magazine, and they (Republicans) are complaining that it was offensive and that they wouldn't want their 13 year old children reading it. Why their 13 year old children are reading Playboy is another story entirely.

Indy,
I saw that show with Rachel Maddow. She was on point, IMO. She stated how Obama "clarified" his 16 month comment way back in March so he is not flip-flopping now.

The Repubs have defined Obama as this extreme lefty and extreme lefties ate it up. Obama has never been on the extreme left. Now that he is all alone against McCain, he is re-stating his policies which have been clearly documented on his site.

Obama has always been a man of faith.

Obama has always believed in RESPONSIBLE gun ownership (not banning them).

Obama has always been pro-choice but has stated his moral pro-life position.

Obama has always been against the war but has voted for particular measures to protect our troops and to accomplish US goals.

It hasn't come up yet but Obama has never stated a position in support of "Affirmative Action".

His moderate position on key issues is why many of us in Colorado (Indy and Repubs) are turning our state blue. He will negotiate and compromise on many issues so that improvements can be made.

He only changed his position once so far and that was on public Financing. However, I would have preferred that he said "I changed my mind based on the climate of the campaign and in the best interest of my supporters."

apissedant said...

Dave,
Maddows said that he never said he would withdraw troops in 16 months.

tmess2, got it, 58 and 250. The rules are if they caucus, they count.

apissedant said...

beryl,
For the most part I agree with you. They mischaracterized him, just as most people mischaracterized McCain as a moderate, when he voted 80% at WORST with the Republicans since he has served.

On this one, he did talk about troop withdrawal. He clearly stated that he gives the mission, and the commanders follow orders. They are helpful in deciding HOW the mission is accomplished, but his job is to decide what that mission was. He declared his mission as withdrawal in 16 months. It apparently no longer is, which I am ok with, but let's call it what it is. I'm not calling it a flip-flop, I'm calling it slightly changing and refining his opinion with new information.

apissedant said...

I'm not in love with the FISA decision, but I am not sure they could make a decision that I would be in love with, except not doing it in the first place. It wasn't malicious or intentional, they got strong armed by the Feds and caved. The Feds shouldn't have tried it, and the companies shouldn't have caved so quickly. This is one situation where I definitely don't think a giant class action law suit will fix anything.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Rachel was right.

She was saying that in the 'clip' that was shown, Obama did not say what the other talking heads said he said.

Obama has always said that he would start getting the troops out and they'd be out in 16 months if he has his way ... but he has never said that it might not take 17 or 18 months. I think that a month or two either way is no big deal.

Joe Scarbourough was the one tonight twisting things.

I do not think Obama has flip-flopped. What he has been saying today he has always said.

1) Starting getting the troops out in 90 days - one to two brigades at a time - most troops out in 16 months.
2) Careful getting out as they were careless getting in
3) Listen to the Generals on the ground regarding logistics - that doesn't mean do what they say
4) The president sets the mission

None of those things are new. He has been saying all of that for several months at his town halls and rallies.

The Republicans and media took what he said early in the morning out of context, then in the afternoon he clarified his position which is the same as it always has been.

Reason being is because most of us are having a hard enough time surviving with no end in sight of increasing energy prices, we don't need a huge increase in our communications services in addition to rising energy prices. I agree with the exception of Maddow. She said that he never asserted 16 months, which he did. He confirmed the question asked, which was that troops would be out in sixteen months. He did not specifically say 16 months, but by agreeing to what was said, he clearly implied sixteen months. She asserts that since he didn't say yes, it doesn't count. I disagree. The guy on the other side was not some giant Republican trying to tarnish his name, in fact five minutes later he was praising Obama about some other issue.

I like Maddow, I didn't like this particular statement.

apissedant said...

His plan is the correct plan. He is aiming at 16 months, but willing to make slight changes to this if the situation on the ground requires it. That is half of what I have wanted all along, so I am in full support of his policy.

All he is missing is a long statement condemning the current government for not rebuilding the country, a comparison to the efforts taken after WWI and WWII, and condemning the American idea of blaming Iraqis for "not standing up so we can stand down."

That statement would never happen, because the ignorant public would not like the statement.

LOL jean. Have fun tomorrow! We are taking the laptop with us, but I will probably not be on here. I may look in to make sure you kids are all behaving, but I won't be too active. :)

p'd ant - you are correct, at the 5 minute mark which if you use inductive logic it is an implied statement, which means that Rachel was wrong in this particular case.

jean,
Happy late birthday!

Dave,
Yeah, my only thing is that there was a flash in there, they cut his statement in two. I'm trying to search youtube for the original question, but I can't find it.

LOL - :( Sorry jean, we missed it. Happy Belated B-day!

Original Debate Video

Starts at one minute. The clip was in context, so there is no save on this one. He can call it a mistake, or a misspeak, but he clearly implied 16 months no matter what.

Jean, I won't be active on here ;)

p'd ant, I'm thinking on the Senate and House numbers at this point. I need to look at the races before I make a determination at this point. I know I took 538 for the EC, but we all know that I was joking, but hey, who knows, I could still come the closest, and since it's not the "price is right" rules, I still have a shot....LOL :)

Regarding the Scarborough clip, here's some info to consider:

Scarborough: was a Repig Congressperp who resigned his seat when a female intern had a mysterious death in his office. His voting record during the 90s was little different from Gingrich's, and after that until he left office was almost totally 100% for Shrub's position.

Tony Blankley: Former press spokesman for Gingrich - need we say more?

Michelle Bernard: President of the Independent Women's Forum (IWF). The mission statement of the IWF says:
The Independent Women's Forum is a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) research and educational institution. Founded in 1992, IWF focuses on issues of concern to women, men, and families. Our mission is to rebuild civil society by advancing economic liberty, personal responsibility, and political freedom. IWF builds support for a greater respect for limited government, equality under the law, property rights, free markets, strong families, and a powerful and effective national defense and foreign policy. IWF is home to some of the nation's most influential scholars—women who are committed to promoting and defending economic opportunity and political freedom. Sounds much like the 'Concerned Women of America' or Phyllis Schlafly's 'Eagle Forum'.

Noah Oppenheim: Currently a senior producer of NBC's Today show; formerly was Executive Producer of "Scarborough Country". Do you think Scarborough would have had anyone but a liberal on his crew? Also, consider this: Oppenheim's essays have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Esquire, Men's Health, and The Weekly Standard. Not exactly a lineup of liberal, nor even moderate, publications.

As Rachel stated "four conservatives vs. one liberal" on that segment, what did anyone expect the discussion to be about?

MinM,

One thing though, with the exception of tonight, Michelle Bernard has always seemed to have been in Obama's court so I'm not really sure I would classify her as a conservative, but I could be wrong after reading their mission statement, YIKES!!!!!!

apissedant said...

Mike,
No doubt they were all conservative with the exception of her. I don't consider them crazy conservative like those on FOX though.

Even still, this is not really the point. I watched it, and I am a liberal. The interpretation I got, was 16 months withdrawal no matter what. That is the answer Obama intended to imply, and that's the message I received. The fact the word "yes," was not included is irrelevant. Many statements mean yes, it doesn't require that one word.

I don't disagree with Obama's policy, in fact I think it is great. He spoke too point blank on this occasion, and now of course, the Republicans are using this as if it is what he had always meant. Part of this is just politics as usual by Obama, and having public statements that do not 100% agree with the written policies of the campaign. This is pretty much required in a campaign. I am kind of just blathering on, so I'll leave it there.

She was wrong, he said it. He said many other times something different, sure, but on this occasion he said it.

apissedant said...

Dave,
Yeah, she always seemed rather liberal to me too. Maybe that was a poor assumption because she is to the left of the rest of the staff, and she is a black woman.

Part of it is that MOST shows also try to balance Republicans and Democrats a little. Apparently not this program.

Beryl said...

Indy,
I've been watching Michelle Bernard closely and she has stated that she is right of center. She does seem to say mostly positive things about Obama but no more than most moderates who are flocking to Obama.

I like her because so far her views match my own.

Sorry Dave, English skills fail me when hot, smart, danger seeking women go on tv and flirt with Jon Stewart. They were repeating the episode where he interviewed Lara Logan, the CBS correspondent. There's an Enquirer article about her this week too.

Front page of the Times, new Obama press conference: "But hours later he held a second news conference to emphasize his commitment to the withdrawal of all combat troops from Iraq within 16 months of taking office."

The Page has a composite photo that they've used before, it has Obama's sis on the left side and someone on the right side. Who is on the right side? His grandmother? McCain's mom? I don;t think she is the latter, as her hair looks different from his mom's.

tmess2 said...

I can't believe all of the nonsense about what Obama said today. My memory from the debates is that he has always had several contingencies in the withdrawal timetables -- both about the ability to safely withdraw troops and about measures that if Iraq took might justify a slower withdrawal (i.e. real progress toward a self-sustaining democracy).

I don't see how a statement that he is "refining" his position in light of changes over the past several months is significantly different than what he said during the debates.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Thanks for posting the Joe and Maddow link.

I wasn't listening very closely when it aired.

Rachael was trying to defend the 'words' in the clip ... but she is wrong on the 16 month part. Obama has always stated 16 months so Rachael shouldn't have pushed that point, so in the case she is wrong.

But all the other people are wrong saying that Obama has flip-flopped. Just because he says he will 'listen' to the generals on the ground (which he has always said in the past) doesn't mean that he will do what the say. He is only going to 'listen' to them.

apissedant said...

Leah,
Ok, now we're in complete agreement.

apissedant said...

tmess2,
That is the general consensus here, though not with the news people.

He didn't offer those stipulations during this one debate, but that isn't that big of a deal. He had offered them in written reports and other speeches on several occasions. So now the media is only offering the one time he didn't offer any stipulations that could cause the withdrawal date to change.

Independent Voter said...

It wasn't even the "media" who made this an issue. From what I can see it was the McCain campaign that jumped all over it, and unfortunately we know how the news media has treated him this entire campaign season. Dan Abrams doesn't call him "Teflon John" for nothing. The media NEVER questions John on ANYTHING he does, including the whole Charlie Black crap, all of John's lobbyist ties, his pushing for corporate welfare while leaving starving families in the streets, etc. It's disgusting to see what has happened to the media ever since the beginning of consolidation which turned the news media into glorified tabloids.

Leah Texas4Obama said...

Karen Anne -

The one on the right looks like McCain's mother to me, perhaps it is an old photo.

Speaking of Maya (Obama's sister) she is supposed to be with the Obama family tomorrow celebrating the 4th of July and Malia's 10th birthday in Montana.

I think Maya introduced Obama today in North Dakota but I am not positive because I only caught 2 seconds of the news clip on TV. She is a school teacher and has the summer off so we will probably be seeing more of her out campaigning.

apissedant said...

Dave,
Very good points and analysis, I agree. It is sad when you have to turn to the internet and The Daily Show in order to get honest news. One is a comedy, and the other is 99% crap, but at least that last percent contains the truth in it somewhere. Can't say that about MSM, that's for sure.

A little of it is already on the front of DCW. It's sweet to see people of any age find each other.

tmess2-I agree with you about what Obama has already said about troop withdrawal in debates.

I also don't think Obama said anything different about campaign finance that would make it much of a flip flop(or sandals).

I just wanted to say thank you to all the people that make this country possible. This election cycle, with all the financial and environmental upheaval, I am especially proud of those that are becoming involved and will do as much as I can to keep them encouraged and at the voting booth in November.

This is just an article relative to our historical recognition of today-

http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Story?id=5305009&page=1

"What I learned was the power of an idea in the hands of the just," says Alexander. "How those little colonies defeated the world's greatest empire. And then I realized that those revolutionaries were us. I decided if they could do it, so could I."

That paragraph in that article really says it.

apissedant said...

I agree suzi. My main thing with the public financing, is that McCain had already attempted to pull out of public financing. Obama said he would if his opponent would, and his opponent had already made his intentions clear. Just because McCain decided to swap sides a third time does not mean Obama should have to continually jump back and forth with him.

Some interesting tid-bits from recent polls. I find it interesting that the pollsters are finally asking the question that's been bubbling under the surface - Is John McCain too old?

In New York:
A Rasmussen Reports survey conducted June 30 has Obama ahead of McCain 60 percent to 29 percent with 5 percent choosing "other" and 6 percent undecided.

Thirty-nine percent believe McCain is too old to be President while 52 percent reject the idea that Obama is too inexperienced.

Connecticut:
A Quinnipiac University survey conducted June 26-29 shows Obama is leading McCain by 56 percent to 35 percent. Rassmussen had it within 3 points on May 9.

According to Rassmussen (poll taken June 30), 32 percent believe McCain is too old to be President and voters say by a 53 percent to 41 percent margin that Obama has enough experience.

Mississippi:
McCain leads Obama 50 percent to 44 percent with 3 percent preferring "other" and 3 percent undecided, in a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted June 25.

Twenty-eight percent believe McCain is too old to be President and 51 percent say Obama is too inexperienced.

Nebraska:
McCain leads Obama 52 percent to 36 percent with 6 percent choosing "other" and 6 percent undecided in a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted June 23.

Twenty percent of voters say McCain is too old to be President while 52 percent say Obama is too inexperienced.

Michigan:
Obama leads McCain 48 percent to 39 percent with 13 percent undecided in a Public Policy Polling survey conducted June 21-22.

Ohio:
Obama and McCain are in a horse race with Obama out in front by a nose, 48 percent to 46 percent, with 7 percent undecided, according to a SurveyUSA poll, conducted June 20-22. Obama leads by more than 2-to-1 among voters under 34.

Thirty-one percent believe McCain is too old to be President and 48 percent believe Obama is too inexperienced (a notion rejected by 44 percent).

Colorado:
A Quinnipiac University/Washington Post/Wall Street Journal poll conducted June 17-24 has Obama leading McCain 49 percent to 44 percent.

Twenty-six percent say McCain is too old to be President while 50 percent say Obama is too inexperienced.

Oh, and Rasmussen recently asked Coloradans how likely they thought it was that the earth had been visited by extraterrestrials. Of those polled, 36 percent said somewhat or very likely while 55 percent said not likely. No results given on how those responses related to their choice of the candidates.
