The Wardrobe

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Yesterday, the RNC said that the McCain campaign ordered the Spunky wardrobe. The McCain campaign contended that no, it was the RNC.

Fair is fair, and from following the discussion, it has become obvious that the clothes were picked FOR her, and that Spunky never set foot in any of the stores.

The politically interesting thing here is that there are different tax and expenditure laws governing who actually bought the clothes. But that's for the FEC and the IRS to figure out later.

The other thing is that the picture is from June of 2008, in an Alaska supermarket. Guess who's on the right?

I believe if the McCain campaign bought them it's illegal. The RNC, not illegal.

She appears to be wearing a traditional Inuit style garment, plus she had just given birth. I vote we give her a break on this one.

I'm with Linda on this one. However, the clothes purchase, and who purchased them, should be investigated.

And this whole thing is a McCain or RNC scandal, not a Palin one.

To be frank, someone, or more like someones, seem to have been really sexist. The notion was that putting a woman forward would appeal to Hillary voters and that focusing on her looks would appeal to men. Add in the idea that she would rev up the social conservatives and somebody thought she was the key to victory.

Two of those assumptions were sexist, in different ways, and it turned out that most voters aren't that shallow. The third is accurate, but they could have drummed up a lot of enthusiasm among slices of the electorate by other oddball choices, such as Ron Paul.

I am not even sure that scandal is the right term for it. It was a one-day oddities story of all the weird expenses that campaigns have. However, Governor Palin appears to be concerned about the impact of that story over her image for future elections. So she keeps talking about it. As a result, rather than covering other elements of the daily campaign events, the media keeps on covering Governor Palin's comments on this issue. Each day that happens is another day that the McCain message is drowned out by trivia and one less day for McCain to try to get back in this race.

if ther only objection i had to the mccain/palin ticket was her wardrobe, i would vote for them:) in fact if i liked mccain better than obama, i would vote for him, not minding the vp, but i can think of about 500 ereasons i prefer obama, so the rest isnt even on my radar screen....
