National Republican Trust Urges Georgians To Stop Obama/Martin

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

While watching the WAGA-TV Sunday morning public affairs program, "The Georgia Gang," the following ad appeared on my t.v. screen:

"Why Do Liberals Want to Tell You How to Vote?"

On the front page of the Republican group's website, the Executive Director of the National Republican Trust writes, "If the Democrats defeat Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss, they will be very close to getting the 60 votes they need in the Senate to pass Obama’s radical legislation."

"Obama and the Congressional Democrats must be denied the 60 votes," the letter reads [Source: GOPTrust.com, "Stop Obama in Georgia!", November 23, 2008].

In addition to this new television spot, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported back on November 18th that the National Republican Trust has "been spending heavily on online banner ads, e-mail and direct mail" [Source: Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, "Groups spend to sway Ga. Senate runoff", November 18, 2008].

Oh, so making your case is "telling you how to vote"?

So I suppose the authors of this ad are "telling them how to vote"? :)

Hey, the Republicans can look on the bright side:

1. if Martin wins, he might become another Lieberman.

2. It isn't as if the Ds have any party discipline anyway. You can actively trash your party's nominee for President and still hold on to your plumb assignments.

some of us can only hope:)

I love how they just can't help crossing the line from misleading information to out and out right lies. When exactly did Barack Obama say he was in support of partial birth abortions?

Typical right-wing trash. But I think Obama has been very late on the uptake in campaigning for Martin, and looking at trends, I think that Chambliss will win. Though GA is moving blue demographically, it is still very much a red state - for the time being. We will see what happens in 4 years, though.

Well Obama did send Al Gore and Bill Clinton over there and Obama cut a commercial and radio ad for Martin. If Martin doesn't win then I think no one can blame Obama.

i think blame might be a strong word, but i will wonder, if martin loses by 1-2 pts, if obama shoulda gone down to georgia....

I don't think Obama should go anywhere before his swearing in other than his transition office and his annual December vacation in Hawaii - and next month along with the vacation they will be having a memorial service for his grandmother.

NO blame, just noting.

Obama got 45% in Georgia. I doubt his presence would hurt Martin, but I doubt it would be the determining factor in putting hi over the top, either. Unfortunately for Martin, this is a special election. The hatred for Saxby Chambliss isn't so strong that people are willing to endure a second election to oust him. Hopefully, I'm wrong because Chambliss is the worst form of human scum that permeates the Republican party. And when they reference the National Republican Trust, do they include Zell Miller in that group? By busting out Zell to replay one of his phony discontent Democrat moments, they are reaching. Democrats know Jimmy Carter won't help Jim Martin, so why do Republicans court Zell Miller?
