Emanuel for Chief of Staff?

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

ABC News has learned that President-elect Obama has offered the White House chief of staff job to Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill.

Emanuel, a knowledgeable source tells ABC News, has not yet given his answer. The sharp-tongued, sharp-elbowed, keenly intelligent veteran of the Clinton White House is said to have ambitions to some day be Speaker of the House. But he also has a keen sense of "duty." - ABC News
UPDATE: Emanuel has accepted, per MSNBC. This is not yet confirmed.

My first (ridiculous) thought is that Blagojevich would have a choice: appoint himself to Obama's senate seat or run in the special for IL-05, which seat he held when he was elected Governor.

Wasn't Emanuel in a lot of conflict with Howard Dean over Dean's fifty-state strategy? What happened to that problem? And what does it say about Emanual's judgment?

I like Emanuel. He is a behind the scenes arm-twister (what you need for Chief of Staff).

Side note for the Entourage fans out there: Rahm Emanuel's brother is Ari Emanuel, Mark Wahlberg's agent, and often sited as the inspiration for Ari Gold.

UPDATE: He has NOT accepted the job yet. MSNBC just now said that they were wrong. No decision has been made yet.
