Inauguration theme announced

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

The Jan. 20 inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama is still 76 days away, but the theme for that historic day has already been set. “A New Birth of Freedom,” commemorating the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, will be woven throughout the inaugural ceremonies.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein , chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, announced the selection of the theme earlier today. Inaugural themes are traditionally linked to major anniversaries.

In a statement released by her office, she said the theme, which was taken from a line in Lincoln’s Gettysburg address, is appropriate given the historic significance of Obama’s election. - CQ Politics
