Dick Luger Says No

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

He has just announced he does not want to be Secretary of State.

So, who do YOU like for SoS? I'd poll it, but that would be my personal list of choices, and I'd rather let y'all pick on your own.

I prefer Hillary Clinton as Majority Leader (sorry Harry Reid)

Clinton would be a great choice for any position (including President in 2016). But she must never again be able to oppose Obama. Let her administer the healthcare reform she's been working so hard for.

Richardson is the only choice, IMHO. He can work with our enemies as well as our friends.

Concur that Richardson would be a great SoS.

Experience, ambition, sincerity - there's a lot that speaks for Richardson, indeed.

Bill Richardson. Game. Set. Match.

Anybody but Richardson. Dick Luger seems a good choice for sec of Defense -- How about someone out of the political spectrum for Sec'y of State.

In the interest of a "biprartisan" cabinet, I want Chuck Hagel (R - NE) for SecDef.

I think Chuck Hagel is a brilliant pick. A government with a unified purpose and a post-partisan mindset are crucial to actually solving the large problems we as a nation must solve right away.

Yes, Hagel would be brilliant, and I'd much rather see him in State, where he can do the most good, than in Defense (which seems to be getting more chatter).

Chief of STAFF: R. Emmanuel will be Obama's Chief of Staff. MSNBC just announced/confirmed it.

If I were Hillary, I don't think I'd give up my Senate seat, particularly if I were thinking about running for Pres in 2016. Senator is a very powerful position, or can be, and tends to get more press than someone in the administration.

That said, I could see her being a point person for something like healthcare. She could also use Obama as a mentor in terms of negotiating and organizing skills. Bill doesn't seem to have been very useful to her in that regard.

If she got healthcare thru, that would be a big feather in her cap fir 2016.

Does anyone know more about Emanuel? I was reading in wikipedia, and saw that he was closely tied to Israel, and my hopes for peace, which had been buoyed by Obama's Edward Said and Rashid Khalidi connection, sank. But then Emanuel apparently had something to do with the Oslo accords, so I wonder, are we looking at a Likudnik or more like Gush Shalom or what?

Is it just me that gets DCW pages blown away with Google server errors a few times a day?

I drew up my dream cabinet when I was still making my case for Wes Clark as VP, my SoS pick was Biden. I haven't gotten a chance to think it through until recently, so maybe I haven't vetted this as thoroughly as I should, but my SoS pick is John Kerry.

I wonder about the names of people being in the news? Is this more MSM guessing or making things up, or are Obama people suddenly, uncharacteristically, leaking?
