Morning poll update

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Quinnipiac University:

Florida: Obama 51, McCain 43

Ohio: Obama 50, McCain 42

Pennsylvania: Obama 54, McCain 39

For those of us who can't subtract, that would be FL: +8, OH: +8, PA: +15

There may be a time when the polls tighten again. But even if they do, they tell us something: Obama can win Florida and Ohio.

There was always that suspicion, or fear, that Obama had a ceiling in some of these states that was below 50%--in other words, that the supposed undecideds couldn't ever bring themselves to vote for Obama. But that's clearly not the case. 50% or more of the likely voters in these battlegrounds have just said they favor him. That means, at a minimum, that they're open to it.

If Obama has a bad debate or some geopolitical event focuses attention on McCain's supposed strengths, we could see these leads shrink or vanish for a time. But we'll know that knocking on doors, making phone calls, and the rest can win the race. Obama is not too inexperienced or too scary or too exotic or too elitist or too whatever-other-smear-you-want-to-use to have a chance with these voters.

Of course, if things continue to go like they've been going, the whole election will be a landslide. Either way, though, I'm feeling good...

I am going to take this with cautious enthusiasm because Rasmussen has some radically different numbers. Of course, Rasmussen has an advertisement for the McCain Palin Compliance fund as well... WTF is a compliance fund btw?
