The newest (soon-to-be) member of Congress

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Congratulations to Marcia Fudge:

Marcia L. Fudge, the mayor of the Cleveland suburb of Warrensville Heights, won a special election primary Tuesday for the vacant House seat in Ohio’s 11th Congressional District. The victory effectively ensures that she will get a head start on seniority over the other House freshmen who win this year’s general elections.

Fudge is now certain to fill out the remaining weeks of the unexpired term of five-term Democratic Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones , who died in August after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. She will take office shortly after the Nov. 18 special election, a formality because no Republican filed to run in that contest.

Fudge — a lawyer who previously served as Tubbs Jones’ chief of staff — also is virtually certain to continue on into a full term in the 111th Congress. Party officials in September selected her to replace Tubbs Jones in the Nov. 4 general election, in which she is a heavy favorite to defeat little-known Republican Thomas Pekarek. - CQ Politics
