Novak says McCain will announce VP this week...

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Sources close to Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign are suggesting he will reveal the name of his vice presidential selection this week while Sen. Barack Obama is getting the headlines on his foreign trip. The name of McCain's running mate has not been disclosed, but Mitt Romney has led the speculation recently. - ENPR
So McCain is playing his VP card to reduce the bounce Obama will get from his trip abroad. Any bounce McCain gets from this will be long gone by the time Obama announces.

Update: Novakula: "I was used!" His report about McCain announcing his running mate this week may have been “a dodge” by the campaign to grab some headlines from Obama.

Well I guess he's trying to get some bounce prior to the Olympics, but it would still be surprising to see an announcement this early. It indicates to me that the campaign is having some internal issues and needs a shot in the arm with a new face to help out both with exciting the base and scaring up some funds.

If it's true, it's my Christmas/Channukah/Holiday wishes all gift wrapped and rolled into one: complete with bow, streamers, confetti and a cake smothered in butter cream frosting.

WOW!!! If only.....but I have trouble believing they would make that major a strategic error.

Makes sense Novak would be the person to break this story. If the GOP needs a false story spread in the media, they always turn to Novak.

Whenever it it they better NOT try to upstage Sen. Obama on Thursday because that will NOT work ...

I doubt McCain will announce this week, but even if he does I do not think his announcement would upstage Obama. In my opinion the only 'big news' McCain could make would be if he were to 'drop out of the race' LOL :)

This is a sign of how desperate they are to take the focus of Obama this week. Announcing their VP is like an ace in the hole that they can play anytime, but only once. To do it now would prevent them from doing it after Obama does, but if they feel that it is worth it because things are going so good for him overseas, they just might.

I am a tad sceptical, but I will bite. Difficult to see the GOP VP upstaging Obama, but that might not be the reason.

It may be that McCain just needs a friend NOW. An Economist, a GOP enthusiasm raiser, a fund raiser, or just sombody who knows how to run a campaign - he could use any of them, and he can't wait.

Over on The Page (TIME) it says:
ABC News: McCain to hold undisclosed event in Louisiana Thursday designed to “capture some of the attention” from Obama.
In my opinion this just makes McCain look desperate. McCain is not 'leading' - he is following!

I wonder if he is going to use a green screen this time?

Louisiana = Bobby Jindal.
Its a done deal.

If it's Jindal I'll be doing backflips. http://www.dailykingfish.com/showDiary.do?diaryId...

And I'm starting to think they leaked the VP story only to take some focus away from Obama. I can't get over how old and stiff McCain looked getting out of that golf cart. Poppy was only slightly more stiff.

I thought the same thing!! They appeared to be 'about the same age'. I think the photo op was supposed to make McCain appear younger. Didn't work though.

I also think the McCain VP story is a false story....spready by Novak of course. The story is that "higher ups in the McCain camp are discussing the possiblity of annoucing a VP this week"....not that they will actually do it. It's a desperate & foolish attempt to grab some of the spotlight. The McCain camp should be careful about crying wolf too many times.... at least that's what my grandpa used to tell me.

Novak: “I Just Put Something on the Internet” (!!)

Fox News

Prince of Darkness tells Fox News Channel: His report about McCain announcing his running mate this week may have been “a dodge” by the campaign to grab some headlines from Obama.

The conservative columnist goes on to say he’d gotten the tip from a “very senior McCain aide” and that the campaign “suggested I put it out” so he posted something online.

Now he says he’s been told by “certain people” he may have been used. Adds if that’s the case, it’s “pretty reprehensible."

And amazingly, they might actually BE that desperate -- CNN has confirmation from the campaign that they are discussing announcing this week.
