Veepstakes Part 27A

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Another day, another rumour. "They" say Kaine or Bayh for Obama, Romney or Pawlenty for McCain. But the real question is: who goes first?

I would love to see McCain go first... and then Obama an hour later! :)

I am still hearing rumors about Gov. Kathleen Sebelius being at the top of the short-list. If McCain announces first and picks a woman and then Obama picks a woman people might say that Obama picked a woman because McCain did.
I was thinking it would be best for McCain to pick first, but now I am of the mind that it will be better for Obama to pick first - and it would be great if he were to pick Sebelius because then if McCain also picks a woman then McCain will look like a copycat.

I think whoever picks second will go a different way than the one who picks first, for exactly the reason you're saying. Suppose Obama goes first and picks Sebelius--someone who reinforces his strong points and breaks new ground. Then McCain might go with Romney, because he shores up his weak points and doesn't appear risky. But if Obama picks Biden, then McCain has much more incentive to pick a woman.
