Greetings to Idaho

WE'VE MOVED! Democratic Convention Watch is now at http://www.DemocraticConventionWatch.com

Later today the press release will come out about polling in the Idaho 1st. It will say that it's Walt Minnick 43%/ Bill Sali 38%.

Yeah, I know, Kos
says that Sali is winning, but that doesn't mean he's right. The internals for the Minnick campaign have been good, but quiet, for some time now.

When Walt wins the Idaho 1st, he will be representing the most conservative House district in America represented by a Democrat.

So what's Minnick like? Presumably a Democrat winning in a ruby-red state has some stances that are to the right of the majority of the party, but others that still make him put a "D" next to his name. I'm curious what combination is playing in Idaho.

He's actually fascinating -- Harvard MBA AND Law, Fed OMB, business owner, populist in a lot of ways, but also served in the Nixon White House.

More than anything, I believe what's selling is that Walt keeps moving from voter to voter -- tons of events, speeches, talking to people. Plus, the campaign has been really smart in recruiting Republicans (I think they have 60 prominent ones already) who've come out AGAINST Sali.

You can check his issue stances here: http://www.waltforcongress.org/index.php/walt2008...

I think you'll find that you agree with some of his positions, and are dread opposed to others, but Tip O'Neill said it best "All politics is local"
